The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He watched her as she worked, though he would have to admit, he was watching more than just her hands; she was hard to keep his eyes off of, that was for damn sure. He snapped out of it when she spoke, and he smiled.
"You got the wash right, now it goes into the flour. Then back into the egg, then bread crumbs," he said, arranging the bowls so the bread crumbs were on the left, the flour on the right, and the egg and milk in the middle. "So, you start in the middle. Then you go left, middle, right," he said nicely. "I had to do it that way for awhile at first, but it's second nature by now."
He chuckled lightly, looking over at her. He really was enjoying this. Across the room, his phone started vibrating again.
"Just ignore that. Annoying client." His voice was a little annoyed as he shot a spectacled glare across the room at the phone.

Jay tried to block out the sounds of death in the next room, focusing on the conversation at hand. There was much more to what was going on, but he wasn't sure he wanted to try to figure out how deep this **** actually ran. But he knew that some things were found out in time, and if he stayed around--or alive--long enough, he'd eventually find out. Or forget.
He looked at the guy with a somewhat darker expression. "My business here was dismantling a dog-fighting ring. Seemed like a shoddy operation, so I figured I could take it down myself," he explained, then began to elaborate on his story.
"Well, a few weeks ago, I was doing my routine run as a golden retriever, and picked up wind of a dog fighting ring. Those...don't set well with me, so I spent the next couple of weeks casing out the joint, each time as an...undesirable...dog. Too sweet to fight, but too big to be bait. Not that I've seen them use those, but can't be too careful." he paused a moment.
"Anyway....today's the day I made my move. I stashed some clothes nearby, even managed to slip into the warehouse and stash an outfit I'd need. This morning, I shifted into a boxer. They put me in a crate. I shifted back, escaped, and changed into my clothes, blending into the crowd. Once the timing felt right, I slipped back into the shadows, shifted into a wolf, and proceeded to put this place out of business. Little did I know, you seemed to have a similar idea frontside, and we just met in the middle."

He turned the music down using the remote--which he'd finally found--when he heard the door open. Sitting up, he smiled, hearing Lee's joke, though he had to admit he really liked the sound of that. In fact....he couldn't wait until the day she said that earnestly. Standing up, he walked over and greeted her with a hug and a kiss.
"You ready to get started?" he said with a smirk. "And I hope you're ready to get dirty. Cooking is not all pretty and glamorous like it is on TV." He smiled, not yet telling her what they were cooking, but there was a dutch oven with fresh oil in it on the stove, and he made his way to the cabinets, pulling out the flour, salt, pepper, seasoning, milk, eggs, bread crumbs, and a block of Mozarella cheese. He put the bread crumbs and flour in separate bowls, and in a third bowl he mixed the milk and some eggs, adding the seasonings and mixing well.
"Okay, what I want you to do is take that block of cheese, and cut it into strips, like this," he said, demonstrating a few for her before handing her the knife. Then, you're going to soak the strips in the egg wash, then flour them, back in the egg, and then bread crumbs. Then, drop em in the fryer. When they float, they're done,[/color]" he explained, preparing to explain it again, and help her where needed.

Jason had a long day. He'd taken a new client, and while she was good looking--though not remotely as good looking as Lee--she was quite overbearing. Obsessive, always watching his every move, etc. While he understood the intentions of these....people...they didn't seem to realize that all this did was make his job harder. He'd finally gotten rid of her maybe an hour ago, finally convincing her to leave because he had plans.
But gone or not, she still left him in a pretty sour mood. At least she paid well, but already he was wondering if it was worth it. He lay on the bed, turning up the radio, letting it blast in an attempt to cool his mood a little before Lee got there.
Lee. She'd make him feel better. He was supposed to teach her to cook tonight, and he'd already had his fridge and pantry stocked with ingredients so they had plenty of options to work with. He closed his eyes, his keen ears still able to pick up on Lee coming in. Not that she needed to knock anymore. His phone gave a vibrate, and he opened his eyes to look at it. Seeing who it was, he scowled, tossing his phone nonchalantly onto the floor.

Almost suddenly, the atmosphere in that part of the warehouse seemed to change. Though the smell of death and blood was still an assault on Jay's keener-than-average nose, the chaos and the pandemonium in and of itself had died down, and now the conversation that was taking place had more of a professional air to it. Jay wasn't entirely sure of this guy's angle--he was damn sure it wasn't as cut and dry as 'heard of a dog fighting ring, I hate those, so I took it out' either. But it was obvious who was asking the questions here, and it wasn't the guy who made jokes about liking collars and belly-rubs, either.
Apparently he liked the answer though, judging by the grin. "I'm what you'd call a canine shifter. I've got the wolf, a couple of foxes, an African Wild dog, and quite a few domesticated breeds, from a chihuahua to a golden retriever to a boxer. I'm set to go back to the zoo soon, so I may be able to pick up a couple more," he said. "Wolf just seemed to be the best fit for what the task at hand called for today."

From across the room, Jay mentally sized up his new conversation partner. Instantly, he knew that if this guy wanted him dead, he'd be dead. From what he could tell, it wouldn't matter if he was human, chihuahua, wolf, or Saint Bernard. But it seemed they were on the same side. Or at least, in that 'enemy of my enemy' scenario. Though that didn't necessarily mean they were friends it just means the three of them would be walking out of here alive. Hopefully.
For a split second, he thought the form he'd be most comfortable with was one that could get him the hell out of here, but common sense said to stay and talk. Besides...if they had common ambitions....maybe this conversation would be beneficial. He leaned against a shipping crate just close enough to the guy so they could converse.
"I'm a mutant to the core," he said. "Shifted for the first time when I was thirteen...from there, the rest was history," he said with a slight smile, sparing the details of his backstory. He gave a slight wince as his head began to throb again. They'd gotten two good hits in, at least.

Jason knew she wasn't used to the sweetness. After all, that usually wasn't what she went for. But he was never really a bad boy nor a one night stand, so he thought he'd get her used to him treating her like he felt she deserved. It was way too soon to be love, but there was something deeper at work, nonetheless.
When her grip tightened on his neck, he pushed up on the shirt, letting it slide up her back as he deepened the kiss, breathing a soft moan as he did so.

He chuckled, that gleam in his eye growing considerable brighter as the canine shifter's grin became more akin to the Cheshire Cat. He gave a shudder as her hand tangled in his hair, and his arms slid to rest on her bare back.
"You're so cute when you play innocent," he whispered in her ear before using one hand to take off his glasses and set them carefully in a desk drawer. Then, he pulled her closer to him, into a kiss.
While nice, and a sign that they were growing as a couple, the time for innocence was over.

His teasing smile also gradually faded as she spoke, turning into a genuine, happy smile, as he took in every word. "Well, I'm pretty good at playing it by ear," he said with a smile, wrapping his arms around her and letting his hands toy with the hem of the shirt she was wearing. "Besides....I'm sure we'd always be able to figure something out..." he murmured softly as he kissed her cheek, his voice becoming gradually more mischievous as he got that gleam in his eye that she was probably all too familiar with by now.
"And with the song you put on...we should probably be doing more than talking," he whispered in her ear, letting his hands still toy with her shirttail as he leaned in and kissed her neck.

He too noticed the mood change, but he had to chuckle; he knew it was only a matter of time before they shifted from innocent conversation to their usual shenanigans. However, as she sat back on his lap and wrapped her arms around his neck, he gave another sly grin.
"Where were we....?" he repeated, teasingly let his voice trail as he looked her in the eyes. "I believe we were havin' a perfectly wholesome, family friendly conversation," he said matter-of-factly. "Completely innocent." He gave another smug smile.

He smirked as she shivered; he didn't know why exactly she reacted to him that way, but he had to admit he kind of liked it. And...he also had to admit he was mildly disappointed when she got up, though he was mildly comforted by knowing that she was coming back. Granted...as she was selecting a CD, and walking over to the radio, and putting it in, he did rather enjoy the view.
He had to smirk at the song she selected as well; a lot less wholesome than most of what they'd listened to when she was over. He shot her a wink as she looked at him and made his way back over, and he was singing along lightly, himself.

He chuckled, only now realizing that they were both naked--or practically naked, and they were managing to talk innocently. It was rather nice. "Well, I try," he said with a chuckle.
"Yeah, it is rather nice," he said in agreement, nuzzling into her neck again. "And who says when you get up you can't come back?' he teased lightly as he gave her cheek a light kiss. He smiled, leaning back in the chair, enjoying this moment. It was nice that they could just talk.

"I'm just flying by the seat of my pants. Not that I'm wearing any." he said with a slight chuckle. "A key part of my job is even when you don't know what the hell you're doing, you act like you do," he murmured with a wink.
"Yeah, it did. You wanna go turn something else on? You know where all of my music is, after all," he said with a slight grin. "And if I recall, you don't like all of my music, anyway," he laughed again, his arms loosening around her so she could get up if she chose.

Jay kept his grip on the man's hindquarters, but then something smelled...funny. The wild hound's nose picked up something foreign...human, but not quite, and there was something foul about it. He tore the denim of the man's jeans, tightening his grip even more; there'd be no way this guy was getting away. Odd smell be damned.
Suddenly, though, the guy's body darkened, turning black. And then....Jay's mouth was filled with a horrible taste, like he'd never tasted before, and it was only amplified by the dog's keener senses. He let go, gagging slightly as the culprit turned into a black mist and disappeared down a storm drain. However, Jay didn't see that, but he noticed the smell dissipating.
He lay on the ground, licking his paw, hoping the coarse fur would help remove the horrid taste from his mouth.

"If this is going to work, I have to be alright with that. We accept each other for who we are. All of it. Whether we like these parts of ourselves or not," he explained, looking her in the eye. "You're worth it. And don't let anyone convince you otherwise," he said softly, putting a hand on her cheek and kissing her tenderly.
"Yeah...I'm not very good at this," he said with a small shrug. "Though I have to admit...I do like this." He smiled, nuzzling her neck a little.
