The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Nodding, she kind of assumed Serena had a least a little more of a handle on how this was meant to work feelings wise. But it was still new to Alice and she was kind of just assuming everything that was happening was as it should be and if her sister was acting a certain way around touchier subjects, well that's just how it was. "Well, you're doing good. I think."
"Yeah, I do so tell that anxiety to shut the f**k up. We're Rivers, in a city where that means more than some stupid rich family from England. It means us." Yeah it sounded a bit weird saying but her sister was starting to work herself up about if and buts. Needed something a little bit more than just a 'me too'. Well that and it was kind of true. "Home is you for me here. I've not really put down the kind of roots you have but I feel like I can. I'm moving starting uni, moving into my own place and I've even done a little bit of training although honestly I'd more interested in that rooms tech than what goes on in it."
"I know, I know but, I've had to many people do it in the past for it to be unsaid and sometimes wanting to protect someone can slip into taking away a decision they should take." Her mum had done it a few times, although she was getting better at it, and her grandmother did it in a twisted way. A very creepy, twisted, selfish way.
Of course it worked. They mostly just made each other emotional at the moment because they were getting through all the weird stuff at super speed. "I mean, it does. In a shocked and stumbley way but we're kind of there." Taking a quick drink and joking, "just have a stock of cider around and we'll get there even quicker."

Oh she had something worth hiding with that kind of reaction. Something very interesting as well, if she was just flat out lying. Alice didn't need to be an empath to know that. She did wonder what kind of things she had since Emily didn't seem the squeamish about sex type and she was clearly not a closeted nerd. Giving her friend a sceptical look, she decided to drop it for now. She'd get a peek eventually, of that she was certain, and push comes to shove she could always try bribing the girls new beau for the information.
Snorting derisively she doubted that was actually possible, she had pretty damn good gamer creds. With the number of consoles she had back at home, the retrofitting she was doing and the horrific number of games in her library she was pretty sure she had most people beat. "I'll believe it when I see it, I am the king of nerds in the mansion and no one has challenged me so far."
"Hey, it's not easy when your choices are limited. Most girl my age see the hair and the piercings and assume I'm either trying to sell them drugs or that I'm some kind of dominatrix." That particular one had been really awkward because she was not ready for the kind of flirting that had started. Noped out pretty hard that night.
Shrugging, she wasn't making assumptions about how daft someone could be. "I don't know how good under pressure you are. Better off being said and not needed." One time she hadn't. One time she'd thought a friend could be chill about it. One near miss was one too many for Alice.
Grinning and holding up the bottle in cheers, "that, can be arranged." A few drinks were just the way to start a nicer evening.

So, Alice had a roommate apparently. Was it normally that easy? And did it usually happen while pretending to be fiances in front of a stranger who looked about ready to burst with excitement when the situation had unfolded in front of them. In fairness, Alice was also pretty excited. She'd never actually lived with someone her own age before, not really, so it was going to be pretty cool to be able to hang out with someone without even leaving your own place.
And it was Mari, so they clearly worked well together in terms of friendshipy stuff. True, Alice would probably have to keep her room a bit nicer than she normally did but that wasn't much extra work when she had the prospect of her own kitchen to play around with. Their kitchen technically but she got the feeling she would be using it the most with her unique power situation.
"Of course I will dear," she said smiling down at her friend. Only some of it was even an act, "we'll need to run through budgets and all that stuff but I'm sure we have a little bit of time." Turning to woman who found them a perfect place, "do we need to sign anything or put down any money now or?" Frankly, Alice had no clue how it worked. At all. Christ she didn't think most people in her family knew how renting a place worked.
"No, at least not now. You're both clearly wanting to take the place and I can get the documents put together and sent across to you to look over and sign, if that's OK with you two?" The woman looked like she was ready to hug someone if anymore 'excitement' happened so Alice made an executive choice to get out of arms reach as soon as possible."
Stepping away with phone in hand, "Give me a couple of minutes and I should be able to confirm everything is OK." The phone call itself didn't take long, msotly it was incredulity from her mum that she a) had found a place and was ready to get the paper sorted as early as she had and b) was actually wanting to move in a friend. That part got repeated a few times and the extra emphasis on friend was almost getting insulting after a while. Did her Mother think she was totally socially inept or something? On the upside, she got the go ahead and even managed to nab a little benefit for them both in the process.
Having wealthy family was worth it some times.
"Well, that's settled then I guess," she remarked as she rejoined the two of them, "I can sign whenever we have the contracts to read. Even scored a little bit extra I can tell you about later Mari."

Shrugging at the relief from Serena it wasn't like she'd throw the key back in her face. "I mean, it's not like it could be any other way. You've kind of made it clear you're my family so it's not like me thinking of this place as home should be much of a shock right?" Being as in touch with her feelings as Serena tended to make her was a fairly uncomfortable experience still. The hugging was one thing and she was certain she'd get over her own hangups pretty quick but actually feeling like a family? Kind of vulnerable around someone, and not in a bad way, just because they could hurt you so much.
It was weird.
Oh shit. That was one way to bring down a mood. Mention an ex, one who it hadn't ended well with and it was bound to make the atmosphere a bit grim but she wasn't quite as bad. Must have been a pretty messy breakup or something to have left a mark that big. And cause her sister to go a little AWOL for a while.
"Fair enough," was about as much as she could muster after the finality of Serena's statement. It's not like she could add anything and if she did, she felt like it would only make things worse. Plus, seeing her sister get broken up over someone that much did hurt. More than a little.
"That's one way to put it. And it's fine sis, endearing even. Just don't make decisions for me and we'll be good." Over protective was fine. Controlling her wasn't. She'd lived under one thumb for a long time and she would go quite far to make sure that was never going to happen again. If she had to. "You mean well, which is awesome."
Colour Code:054288 - Alice speaks in a strong, very posh, British Accent Massive thanks to Lix for the awesome Sig!
Alice found it hard to disagree. The place was as close to perfect as she could imagine. It had that kitchen, the main room was a decent size and it seemed like the rooms were an OK size. Definitely bigger than hers at the mansion and while it was a little smaller than she'd be looking at herself it was a very respectable size. For anyone.
OK so some of the ideas Alice got from time to time wren't the distracting kind and more the useful ones.
Which is why she already had half the calculations done in her head when the woman obviously asked why she didn't move in herself. It made sense, from the outside at least. They were fiances in this instances and her moving in would be a really good idea. It'd work out a fair bit cheaper overall, she'd obliviously enjoyed being shown around and as far as the lady showing them about knew they had already taken one big step, why not live together after all.
Only Alice couldn't actually think why them living together would be a bad idea. She needed to look for one anyway and it was in her budget, it kind of meant she could be lazy and not need to look for one in a couple of weeks while getting a damn nice apartment. With someone she knew she gelled with. "Not at all, it's actually a pretty good idea. I'd need to make a couple of calls to hash it out but I think with the numbers I've got in my head it should work." If Marisol wanted to actually live with her, that is. "I mean, if you're alright with that Mari?"
She really hoped she would be. There wasn't really a down side to them getting the place.
And Alice had plans, mostly of the cooking variety and how she could expand her set up once she got a PC up and running but some of them included decorating and furniture. Of course the most important part was lurking as well. She'd have a place to herself. That she could bring girls back to. If she ever got lucky. Which was unlikely but still a nerd can dream.

"Of course you don't know what I could be implying. Myself though? I have a few interesting gadgets. True most of them are like 20 years old and need to be hooked up to a TV but they are fun." she responded lightly, not bending the true all that much to be honest. "The rest? Pretty vanilla to be honest certainly nothing to be ashamed about."
If it was anymore obvious, it would probably have been visible from space. Holding her finger and thumb apart by only a couple of centimetres, "just a little Em. To anyone with eyes." But then, subtle be damned, why hide being happy. "Sooooooo, who is it? Anyone I might know?"
"I might take you up on that to be honest, not had much luck myself and having a cheat to use might just give me the edge." Much luck was maybe putting it mildly. Of the few times she'd gone out to chat someone up it had not gone well. At all.
Not been to her kind of bar? "Well, we're fixing that tonight. It will be nothing like a party I can promise you that. Get ready for some interesting sights, just ya know, try not to stare to much if you see something you shouldn't." Giddiness though? Not a chance of that Alice reckoned.
"You'll be fine though, It's not a bad place. Just kind of weird but it makes them kind of accept anyone in. Don't be a dick, which I know is hard for you dear," she joked, "and we'll have fun."

Deepen their relationship? Well, she wasn't entirely wrong with that comment although Alice reckon it probably wasn't exactly in a way the woman imagined, given they were just friends. But she was supportive and actually seemed pretty nice which was a bit of a difference to their previous experience. It's not like the other realtors had been bad but, well they hadn't really talked like people. Kept really professional and all but it was like talking to someone not entirely interested. This woman seemed genuinely excited to show people around.
Maybe the place wouldn't be too bad.
"Well, I did get the hint eventually," giving her friend a quick smile, "even if it took a while." The game was easier this time, not that Alice was much of an actor anyway but being a version of herself was a lot more comfortable. That and Mari took the lead, which made it so much easier for her.
Well, a two bed might actually be a good idea, wouldn't that actually be cheaper in the long run if she had a roommate? From the few places she'd looked at she'd gather it generally worked out easier to share rent and bills, at least a little. And Mari seemed interested, which was the main thing.
Alice, well Alice hadn't been expecting something as nice. It wasn't huge sure but it was like one hundred times better than some of the places they had seen. For one there were no cockroaches in sight and the walls didn't have a single sign of mould. In fact they didn't have much on them at all, being stripped back to red brick. Which, well was kind of cool actually.
"Holy crap," she shouted, rushing over the kitchen after Marisol. It was kind of great. Small, but comfortably so. Kind of like having everything in easy reach and there was definitely enough storage for two peoples worth of tools and equipment. Christ even the island counter top was proper wood. Nothing fancy but it was really well made. Running a hand over it, she gave her friend a serious look. "I will cook for you everyday here if you let me."
"Ok, there has to be a catch," Alice proclaimed looking over to the woman showing them in. "Bad neighbours, haunted drains, former murder house? There is no way this place hasn't been snatched up already." It looked pretty damn good for what Mari was wanting and if the only issue was she needed a roomie it was a good deal.
The woman gave a warm smile at their obvious excitement, and shook her head to the questions. "Nothing like that at all dear. Most people here are married couples and older folks, if it is haunted they are remarkable quiet, pleasant ghosts and I honestly doubt there's even been a disturbance report about this place."

Serena seemed pretty forgiving about their fathers choices or lack of them. At least on the surface anyway. Alice, less so. Bad decisions were one thing and not being a good parent another, but never even seeing her? Not checking on your own daughter? That was just f**ked. "Yeah you and me both. I know I'd have certain words to say to him repeatedly and in a variable pattern," she finished bitterly. She'd swear at him, if she could. For a while. Maybe 3-4 days before taking a break.
"I, well yeah of course it is, home at least. And you can't blame yourself about missing out on the birthdays, not like had much choice in the matter." The choice had been made for them, by an evil old witch, and the silence on a flawed man. "Mainly having my real family around makes it that. Not the estate that's for damn certain." Didn't feel real yet and the key was kind of heavier than she'd expected, even with how small it was.
Ok, hold up. She'd given someone else a key, to her apartment. And this was the first she'd ever heard about this. Cocking an eyebrow, "Serena, if this is the first time hearing you were dating someone long enough for them to be able to let themselves in I am going to be upset. Spill it."
"I mean, not entirely I guess," she admitted before hastily adding, "not that it says anything about you. She can just be protective at times. It was just the two of us for a while, we were.......are close," correcting herself quickly. "And I know you mean the best. Kind of proven that already with this," grinning she waved the key for effect. "Hard to step back from that."

"Really now? Not ashamed at all?" Alice had a hard time believing that. Everyone had something to hide and their room usually had the biggest hints to all sorts of interesting secrets. "No skeletons in closets or hidden collections? Not even a little." Frankly the blank would have made Alice think she'd missed her meaning but this was a girl that could literally feel others emotions so yeah, chances are she understood her very subtle hint.
She did get a rather sly grin at Emily's blushing. Alice had picked up on the difference and that was saying something. Generally her attention span for those kind of things was small, but when a friend is checking out their phone more, maybe smiling at it or getting the occasional moony look, it wasn't hard to join the dots. "Nothing at all dear, just an observation."
"Well s**t hormonal it will be. Most bars like it tend to be a bit of a riot given the clientele." Gay bars did tend to be a little more crazy than others although it wasn't one of the worst she'd been to. The main benefit was cheap(ish) cocktails which tasted damn good and not getting leered at by every passing drunk. Well passing drunk guys at least.
"I think you'll enjoy it though. It plays cheesy music today, the drinks are awesome and you're not likely to get groped." Her three favourite things in a bar, now if she could just find one that had video games you could play while at it she would have found heaven.
Eyeing Emily and taking another drink for herself she wondered how much partying the girl had done in the city. "So, how much experience you got with not entirely upstanding bars? You know all the general do's and don'ts?"

Laughing a touch too loud at the comment she had certainly gotten a little bit of experience how *handsy* this character was. "Just don't go grabbing my arse, unless you want to deal with horny Alice. I'm not responsible for horny Alice, that girl is a f**king idiot." What did or didn't happen when horny Alice was around was not under her control.
Admittedly the journey wasn't terrible and, while she would have been completely lost without her map in normal circumstances, Mari knew which stops were theirs and when to transfer trains. The Village though, that was pretty cool. The atmosphere was a lot nicer than the other areas they'd been looking and some of the shops and cafe's seemed pretty cool.
Also, it was The Village. It kind of had a reputation for being more welcoming to people like them, which might have been affecting her view of it. Whatever it was they had a much better experience with the woman waiting for them, who took the fiancée line in stride. Barely even blinked actually.
"Thank you, we've been together a while so I figured it was time," she grinned, glancing at her friend, "and it means we have more of an excuse to look at places we might be able to spend more time in." A bit more of her normal accent was coming through this time which, sure it was still posh, but not as comically so as her character before. "After you, please. We're excited to see what you've got here."
It was in a very nice place and Alice couldn't see any bars or clubs too close by so it might not be too loud at night. She would definitely need to look for a place nearby, if there were any more available, or just spend more time visiting Mari if she got the place.
Colour Code:054288 - Alice speaks in a strong, very posh, British Accent Massive thanks to Lix for the awesome Sig!
Marisol was not kidding when she said they had to squeeze in. Very close. Together. Again. Which made thoughts happen again that should't happen for a friend. It also didn't help that Alice was position in a way that she could only hold onto the bar above her, which she hated because she could balance properly. So she had to lean into her friend, for balance. Totally no other reasons. Nope.
None at all.
The danger room was far and away the best thing Alice had ever seen and she was aching to get a look at the kit behind it. She wanted one, but it's cost was mind blowing with just the basic details she'd seen. Even then if she, or more importantly a game designer, could get a peek at how it worked it could could huge changes in gaming tech. "It's weird how intense it can be, how real. You kind of know logically it's not but.....it is. When you're in there."
Ah, of course she would get brought up at some point, even if it was unintentional. Alice hadn't pried much into the circumstances or reasons for the break up but it had thrown Mari for a while from what she saw. "Not as cool as a gay, definite, couple wandering the village and looking at places to live," she replied lightly, slipping her own arm around her friend comfortingly, "or said totally legitimate couple going for a movie or something after to de-stress. My treat."
Alice reckoned they could both do with some mindless fun after the roller-coaster the day had been.

Raising an eyebrow, "Well I wouldn't have expected that kind of offer from you." Given her friend a grin, "not saying no either but I don't think who ever has been distracting you recently would appreciate that." Layer were a good idea, and while it might clash with her look, not get pneumonia was probably worth it.
Coughing at neat rum? Someone had clearly not been practising enough and that was something Alice was happy to remedy. "I think using it to wind down is a good idea, as much as I hate to wait. We probably want semi clear heads." Semi being the operative word in her opinion, "Which means you need a couple more in you if your tolerance is like mine."
She was skinny, but enough underage activities had given her a reasonable ability to handle drink. If she wasn't mixing to many of them.
"I think you'll like it, has a pretty good atmosphere so you won't get the depressing vibe a lot of those ones give." Good might have been an understatement but she was looking forward to her friend experience the insanity for herself, with a little push from her of course. Nodding at the bottle, "If that's not your poison I do have some vodka as well but you'll definitely need to have that with something." The vodka was cheap, compared to the rum and had that distinct nail polish remover flavour.
Not something easy to drink on it's own.

"Yeah I think we might have found a new sore spot to say the least," she replied wryly as if her reaction hadn't betrayed just how much of an issue was apparently hidden away. "But I'm good, or getting there and the distraction will probably get me back to something resembling rational." Alice didn't really do emotion and suddenly having it kind of explode was more than a little embarrassing for her. Thankfully Marisol was actually there and not one of the brats at the mansion or she would have never been able to live it down.
Pondering a character she couldn't really come up with anything that would be interesting or different enough to what had just happened that she kind of just had to fall back on being herself. A sarcastic, nerdy lesbian with the added benefit of having a fiance like Marisol, which was awesome. "I think I'll stick to something a little simpler. Maybe a girl who hasn't recently had a freak out. That sounds fun." Self depreciation was a go to coping mechanism and her defenses had gone up a little. Not hugely, but a bit.
The subway, an introverts worst enemy. Cramped with a bunch of people in a small place with no fresh air. But it helped her think of other things, and to focus to apartment hunting. Which was the main reason she was actually here, for her friend. Not to have personal freak outs or to imagine things with people she shouldn't be.
"A little," she admitted quietly, "and yeah the mansion is kind of similar." Smaller, she had to admit although in fairness it wasn't by much. "Although I can say the danger room alone kick the ass of any country estate, no questions asked. They have a holodeck Marisol, that just can't be beaten."
Pondering the statement she could almost here the longing in Mari's voice and given the state of the apartments in her price range, she could absolutely not blame her for wanting to take a place even if it would be too much. She'd been doing that herself in what now seemed a callously selfish way, but maybe there would be wiggle room on the price or some kind of deals could be made? "It's really hard to argue with a good kitchen, just being able to have room to move makes it so much more enjoyable," Alice sighed, remember estates ones she'd been able to use and the sheer amount of stuff she could play with.

Yeah, he certainly wasn't the most interested person in Alice's regard. Definitely not interested enough to even acknowledge his own child's existence, let alone speak to her, which made her sister's statement just a mild understatement in her eyes. "You can say that again," she added, not entirely sure her lack of contact was a good or bad thing with what she'd heard.
Her mind reeled at the offer. Serena was actually willing to let her live there, if she'd wanted, and she would be lying if she'd said she wouldn't have loved to if she hadn't been sold on the idea on moving in with Marisol. "Bloody hell Serena, are you trying to win some kind of best sister competition or something because you are kind of in the running for a medal at this rate."
Putting the box on the table she gave her sister a quick hug, even ignoring the cider for now. "I really appreciate this, like massively. Can't tell you how much it means to have a place to call home here." Sure she'd have her own place soon and the mansion was nice but nowhere in the city ever really felt like home to her. Christ even most places where she came from didn't have that feel which wasn't a surprise how the living there had beem over the last few years. "And I won't mess this up. Or borrow your games. Much."
OK maybe she'd borrow a few.
"I might take you up on that if I can't grab her, or if they don't believe she's related to me." In reality, her mum was way less well known than Serena on this side of the Atlantic but she did pop up every now and then at a charity do or business report. If anyone was into that stuff that would definitely not trust some random blue haired stick claiming to be her daughter.

Holding up one thin arm, "Why do you think I'm f**king freezing, I'm not exactly well insulated," she replied caustically. She had not signed up to stand in the cold, she had signed up to get drunk, possible high and to enjoy herself. Not being able to feel her toes did not constitute as having a good time. "And generally if I am going outside back home it's not during the winter."
"Once I get moving I'll be fine, standing around like an idiot hasn't helped." Drink was helping, now at least, and the prospect of some warm and crucially numbing substances didn't hurt at all.Taking another swig before offering the bottle to her friend.
