The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It seemed like the instructors were even more fashionable than the students. First Xavia and now the math teacher's wife. Allegra wanted to ask Xavia if she could introduce her, but the instructor was slowly dozing off. There would be plenty of time to talk about this stuff after the spa. Allegra shut her eyes and just floated.
She heard Derek asking about Xavia's pregnancy. Allegra wanted kids but the idea of delivering them? That scared her a bit. She wondered if she was alone in thinking that. It was supposed to be such a beautiful, natural process but there was a lot of pain involved. Allegra didn't care much for pain.
Well, that should be the furthest thing from her mind. Right now she didn't want to think about the things that she did have to deal with like being a mutant and adjusting to a new school. She just wanted to close her eyes and mentally drift away.
“Yeah, that’s her. Ms Worshahlai. Biology and Botany,” Allegra said. “I tried getting into Botany, but it was full. I begged to be let out of Biology. I’m just totally against cutting up frogs or any other animal. Anyway, I know it sounds strange since she’s a teacher but I just love her fashion sense and, yeah, her hair. I wish I could pull that off.”
Allegra blushed when Alice complimented her. “Thank you. I’ve really been afraid to try other hair colors. I wish I was more daring.”
Allegra wished she had never made that comment about the Disney Princesses. “That came out all wrong,” she said. “I so totally do not want to depend on any guy. I know what I want to do with my life and have since I was five. I’m gonna work to get it. I guess I just don’t go out of my way to kick any butts. I'd rather not be the one that has to fight the forces of evil, thank you. Flying is something I’d totally be up for, though. I’ve been stuck in L.A. traffic enough times to just want to soar through the sky. ”
“Wait you don’t even get to play your favorite character in the game?” Allegra asked. “That’s kinda strange. If there was a Wonder Woman game I’d want to play Wonder Woman, not Wonder Woman’s mom. So you’re playing Ciri’s mother and the whole point is to find her, right? Then what? Do you ground your daughter for going out and getting in trouble? And where’s the father in all this? Is he helping to find her? Does he even call in an Amber Alert or is he a total deadbeat?”
This was all very confusing but Allegra was open to learning more, mostly because Alice was so excited about it. “I’ll help you with the costume,” she promised.
Allegra was relieved that Alice didn’t think she was hitting on her. “I’m glad my room is far from the kitchen,” she said. “I eat too much as it is. I don’t know how you stay so thin. Care to let me in on your secret? I exercise like crazy and I still can’t get the weight off.”
Allegra popped some popcorn and grabbed some soda then followed Alice to her room. “I gotta say you are disappointing me in the nerd department,” Allegra joked as she looked around Alice’s spartan apartment. “Aren’t geeks supposed to have action figures all over the place? And why do they call them action figures anyway? They just stand there, right? Not a whole lot of action.”
Allegra walked over to the one poster Alice had hanging up. It was something she didn’t recognize. “So what is this?” she asked. Allegra had posters and pictures all over her room and would go crazy just staring at blank walls.
She plopped down on the bed and Chocolate joined her. Sparkle was busy sniffing and exploring Alice’s room. “Chocolate’s probably just going to stay next to me, but let me know if Sparkle is going somewhere she shouldn’t,” Allegra said. She held some popcorn in her hand and let Chocolate munch on it while Alice got everything all set up.
Today was shaping up to be a pretty good day. Allegra felt well rested for once. It probably had a lot to do with the spa treatment yesterday. She could not wait to go back. That felt soooo good.
Class went well. She got an A on her English test. She had a really nice two hour long talk with her BFF, Emma. She tried on some of the clothes that Xavia gave her and the weather was beautiful. For once, life was good.
Changing into shorts and a basic white tank top Allegra and her puppies went for an afternoon run around the mansion. They already had their normal early morning jog but Allegra was feeling upbeat and motivated for some sun and cardio. The dogs never turned down an excuse for exercise.
Allegra ran by the volleyball court and saw a group of older students playing including a mutant with SIX ARMS! Unfair advantage much? Why did mutants seem to think this kind of thing was okay?
Stop. Let’s not dwell on that. Allegra just smiled and pushed aside her normal disdain of mutants. The day was too perfect for negative vibes.
After running around the hedge maze (she still had yet to risk running inside the maze) she decided she was going to ask to join in on the game. She played beach volleyball all the time back home. Since coming here, she had become a lot more shy and reserved. But nothing's going to happen if you don't make it happen. Allegra replayed the pep talk her best friend gave her this morning. What's the worst that could happen if she just asked them if she could play? So it was decided. She was going to run back to the volleyball courts, have a good time and maybe make some new friends.
By the time she circled around, they had all gone. In their place was one of Allegra’s current crushes. She had spoken with Iggy briefly in the hallways once and sat behind him in English but couldn’t say she really knew him at all.
It would be easy just to walk on by, but she was feeling good today so she decided to run over and say hello. Of course, moving her lips and saying something was a bit of a challenge for the nervous girl. No, walking away was a much better option.
Her dog, Sparkle, looked up at her owner and shook its head. The Shih Tzu ran over to the volleyball that Iggy was about to pick up and knocked it away, chasing after it.
“Sparkle! No!” Allegra shouted. She looked up and her eyes locked with Iggy’s kaleidoscope eyes.
Allegra was used to being the startled, not the startler. “Kendra, I’m sorry,” she said. Kendra seemed deep in thought. Allegra could relate. She’d get so lost in daydreams that she’d get jolted by the smallest thing.
“Thank you,” Allegra said when Kendra complimented her outfit. “It’s something I just threw together.” Allegra said that many times, but this time it was actually the truth.
Allegra had no idea where the Danger Room was. She didn’t seek out danger in a room or anywhere else. So she followed the floating hat and the untied combat boots. They came to the doors which seemed like they could hold the contents of Fort Knox. Better safe than sorry when keeping kids away from danger, she guessed. Allegra had more reservations now. Maybe her first trip to the Danger Room should be a little more supervised. Was she going to be safe with a half woken daydreamer who didn’t even notice her shoes were untied?
The thick doors opened ominously and Allegra entered the room. She wasn’t sure what she was expecting but it certainly wasn’t a vast room full of nothing.
Allegra danced into the room spinning around a few times to show she wasn’t afraid. “So, there’s nothing here til you turn on the holograms?” she asked.
Kendra asked Allegra about her mutant power. Allegra hated answering that. She felt like she was in an 12 step meeting having to admit her deepest shame. Hello, my name is Allegra and I’m a big fat freak.
“Docprof says that I can create secondary mutations in mutants,” Allegra answered. “But it’s totally random and kind of scary. I turned one guy into a human volcano and then I killed Derek and brought him back to life as a girl. I wish I could have something fun and useful like flying or seeing the future so I could play Lotto. As far as powers go, mine really suck.”
“Thank you. I’ve been into fashion as long as I can remember,” Allegra said. “My big sis is a model and I see some of the things that she gets to wear and I drool uncontrollably. Hmmm. I’ve thought of dying my hair. Have you seen Ms. Worshahlai’s hair. I just love her look. I wonder what she uses to get her hair to get that color.”
"Honestly superheros were also more interesting to me. Why be a princess when you can kick butt and fly?"
“Sure, superheroes can kick butt and fly but princesses look beautiful and get guys to do that for them,” Allegra laughed. Ok, where did that come from? It was a joke but it sounded incredibly lame and 1950s. Was that part of Allegra’s problem? She expected other people to take care of her because she didn’t feel confident enough to take life in her own hands? Allegra had a whole lifetime of being told she was never good enough while having everything done for her. That was a pattern she really needed to break. She filed that little bit of psychological self-examination in the back of her head. She’d have to journal about it later. Right now she didn’t feel like dealing with the deep stuff.
Instead she looked again at the picture of Ciri. “What is it about this character that you like so much?” she asked. Perhaps knowing more about this character would help Allegra get to know a little more about Alice.
“I’d love to try my hand at putting this costume together for you,” Allegra said. “It’s not something I’d ever wear but that’s part of why I want to try it. I can imitate my favorite designers all I want but it’s doing something totally different that can help me think in new and creative ways. And I want to help you too. You really seem to be into this character so it’d be fun to help you bring her to life.” "OK, as long as you're fine with a smaller, more intimate place that's cool with me.
“Um...not intimate. Just quieter,” Allegra said. She didn’t want to give Alice the wrong idea. “It’ll be quieter and you can explain stuff better.” Honestly, Allegra didn’t want people to see her playing games with the school nerd, but Allegra wasn’t going to give Alice the right idea either.
“Okay, dishes are done. Let’s go!” Allegra was actually kind of looking forward to this.
“The tattoos gone?” Allegra asked. “Oh, a temporary tattoo,” she deduced. "Maybe I should start with one of those but it doesn't quite have that 'seize the day' feel."
"Do as I say, not as I do’ ‘This too shall pass.’ “You know, you sound like an old person,” Allegra laughed.
“No, it’s my mom, not Emma’s that says I should be more like Kristii,” Allegra said. "Emma's mom and Emma both hate Kristii. I kind of do too."
Charlie seemed like a whirlwind of contradictions. She seemed so young and free but she seemed to have such an old soul. That’s probably what happens when you’re not afraid to experience life. You see so much that it keeps you young and fresh but you experience more than people twice your age.
“My mom thinks Kristii is incredible because she’s so fearless and confident and beautiful. Unlike me,” Allegra sighed. “I can’t stand Kristii but I guess I wish I could be more like her. Just not so mean. I want to do what makes me happy but what if no one likes me? Or if they are mean to me?” Allegra had been bullied before and it made her want to curl up and die.
"You make do at first, and then you start to find a rhythm. It'll come, trust me." ----
“It’s been so hard to find my rhythm at my new school,” Allegra said. “It’s just so…..different. There’s some really nice people there but so many of them are just freaks. I know that came out the wrong way but they’re like some of the goths and burnouts at my old school. They just live for being different and if you don’t want to spend all your energy being all freaky too, then they just make fun of you. Some of them are honestly really scary.”
It was love at first sight for Allegra and the dress. “Oh my god! I love it! I love it!” She smiled at Charlie. “Are you sure I can have it?”
“I think that’s the perfect look for your girlfriend,” the shop owner said to Charlie, mistaking them for a couple. The woman looked to be early 40s with beaded dreadlocked hair wearing a dress very similar to the one Allegra was admiring. “I design and make these all myself. I’m glad you like it.” She held her tongue in commenting about Allegra’s current outfit and instead turned to the older man working the register. “What do you think, dad?”
The woman’s father who looked like a Jerry Garcia clone looked up at Allegra but his eyes fixed on Charlie instead.
“Charlie??” he asked then shook his head. “Sorry. That’s impossible. Forgive me. You just remind me of a girl I knew a long time ago.”
Xavia and Derek both were trying the mud bath so Allegra figured she'd give it a whirl. She had never done it before. It looked weird and it kind of smelled. Still, when in Rome.....
Allegra always felt uncomfortable stripping down but she was with friends. The attendant helped her into the pool of warm mud. "Oooh," Allegra said as she floated. "This actually feels really nice, Xavia. Great idea."
"Ms. Shinbo?" Allegra asked Derek. "Any relation to the math teacher?"
Allegra had been diagnosed with ADD, but this girl was really all over the place. It was kind of understandable. After 24 hours a day of pure tedium, Kendra most likely naturally focused her attention on the next exciting thing or she’d truly die of boredom. Even for Attention Deficit Allegra, Kendra was hard to follow teleporting from here and there and changing conversations on a dime.
Still, it was part of Kendra’s charm. She was full of life and it was contagious. Plus, Sparkle let her pick her up. The Shih Tzu wouldn’t let anyone near if they weren’t a good person.
“It takes Chocolate a while to get used to anyone but Sparkle loves you already,” Allegra smiled. “Okay girls. Let’s go. See you in 15, Kendra.”
It was actually more than half an hour. Allegra reapplied her makeup because if she died in the Danger Room, she had to at least look good. Then she had to pick out a suitable workout outfit. After all the agonizing, she just chose one of the few that was somewhat clean. A basic pair of capri leggings, a sports bra and a crop tank that said ‘I Heart My Rescue Dog.’
Speaking of the rescue dog(s), they were going crazy barking when Allegra told her she had to go. It was still at least an hour before Allegra normally woke up and she was supposed to be cuddling with them until then. They did not like having any deviations from their predictable schedules.
Allegra bribed them with copious amounts of doggie treats before tying her hair back and running out the door. Chocolate and Sparkle yipped loudly until dawn. Allegra’s neighbors were sure to love that.
Allegra had only been to the library once. She avoided libraries at all costs. She wasn’t a fan of forced silence or studying.
“Hey, sorry about that,” Allegra apologized to the floating baseball cap. Perhaps she should explain that she was NEVER on time. “It took me a while to find the library. You look great in that cap, though I’m not sure it’s your color,” Allegra joked. “So, Danger Time?”
“So glad you see waiting as not old fashioned,” Allegra smiled. “I just wonder if most guys feel that way.” Allegra almost went into the whole laundry list of why no guy would ever be interested in her but she stopped herself. Today was supposed to be a day of fun and relaxation. Allegra didn’t want to prove that she was the most emo cheerleader in history.
Allegra was glad that her power didn’t give Derek any physical mutations. She had once turned someone into a human volcano and she didn’t want that to happen to Derek. But what happened was worse. Much worse. She ended up killing him.
“Derek. Are you okay?” Allegra asked as he started to go into convulsions. She knew that when someone is going into a seizure not to stick anything in their mouths or force them to do anything. Just guide them away from danger and make sure they don’t hurt themselves. But by the time Allegra got over to Derek he had already fallen to the ground. She eased his fall but it didn’t do any good.
He was dead.
“Oh my god! No pulse! Derek! No!” She looked over to where the blue guy and his friends were playing. “Someone help!” she cried.
DocProf had told her that her powers couldn’t kill anyone. He also told her that when someone was killed while using her powers, Allegra could die too but she didn’t feel anything. Perhaps that was just if that person was killed by an opponent. But she wasn’t supposed to be able to kill anyone with her powers either. "How do I look?"
“What?” Allegra asked. Derek was gone and in his place was a …..woman?
One of blue man’s friends whistled. Derek had only been wearing his swim trunks and now this girl (!) was half naked with the trunks in danger of slipping off.
Allegra covered her/him with her towel. “Derek, are you okay? You are Derek, right?”
Allegra echoed Xavia's feelings about the day. "Yes, thank you Derek. I think I've found my new spa. Ohhhh!" She smiled and moaned happily as her masseuse rubbed her back.
"Well, I'm getting a full treatment mani-pedi next if you want to join me," she offered.
Her tense body loosened up and she gave in to the experience. All those many tensions from the last two stressful weeks were melting away.
Allegra was glad that Derek certainly wasn't a male slut. He had morals.
"I'm that way too," she said. "I mean if I ever got a boyfriend. I don't think I'd want to even on the fourth or fifth date or later. I mean, I'd want to but I'd really want get to know him before jumping into it. I want there to be romance and respect and understanding and...well....love."
She shook her head. "I'm so old fashioned, aren't I? No wonder I don't have a guy."
Why did dating seem so easy for Derek and most of her other friends? Allegra was 15 and had never had a boyfriend. She felt like such an old maid.
"Okay, well you asked for it," Allegra said. She focused on Derek then was then surrounded by a green glow while Derek was surrounded by an aura of red.
"I think it's done," she said. "Do you feel any different? Are you okay?"
She was wishing she could take it back. She had no idea how her power would affect him. At least he looked like himself and didn't seem to be in any pain. That was good.

Kendra told Allegra to hold that thought then vanished. “Hello?” Allegra called out. She held out her compact mirror moving it so it could reflect all over the room but no sign of Kendra. Even the cigarette smoke was gone.
“Where are you?" Allegra asked. "I told you I didn’t need you to wake yourself up.” She was getting a little creeped out and confused by all this.
Chocolate slowly lifted her head out from under the covers sensing the unseen ‘predator’ was gone. Then Kendra reappeared behind the couch and the little dog went crazy. With a shrill ‘Yip’ Chocolate jumped up and scurried to hide behind her owner.
“Kendra?” Allegra asked. She swung her compact mirror around the room to face the couch where she finally 'found' the girl. Kendra was like ADD on steroids.
“Don’t do that!” Allegra pleaded. Where had she vanished to? Upstairs for some breath mints to cover up the hideous nicotine smell. Allegra sighed as she plopped back down on the couch. “Look, if we’re gonna be friends, you can’t go around scaring my puppies like that.”
Chocolate was still whimpering. Sparkle on the other hand, just yawned. This was no big thing to her.
Kendra confirmed Allegra’s suspicions. She was slowly losing her mind. Allegra felt more sorry for her than scared. The way she described it sounded like living hell. It sounded like living your life in a fog but a fog you could see through perfectly. Every single day. Day after day after day.
“Listen, if you ever feel like you’re going crazy, just wake me up and I’ll keep you company, okay?” Allegra offered. “I can’t know what you’re going through but I’m here to listen if you need it. Maybe we can try some meditations or something. We always do that right before and after yoga class. It helps calm me down. Maybe it’ll help you. No matter what, I'm here for you.”
Allegra wanted to hug the poor girl but seeing as she wasn’t quite sure where she was, that might be awkward. Allegra then got a face full of couch pillow and it seemed like Kendra’s mood had lightened.
“No, I haven’t been to the Danger Room yet,” Allegra answered. There had been scheduling problems in getting someone to accompany her. She was still untangling the schedule Ruddy made for her and Allegra hadn’t pushed the Danger Room issue. She was skittish enough around mutants. A room named Danger wasn’t high on her list.
But what was it that Abby had told her? The Danger Room was just a big gym with holograms. People even brought their dates there. It might be kind of fun. Right now the only thing Allegra was in danger of was falling asleep studying history, so why not?
“Yes, I’m a mutant,” Allegra said. Her voice was laced with shame and she stared down at the floor when she answered. “Isn’t everyone here a mutant?” she asked. Allegra certainly wouldn’t be ten miles from this place if she wasn’t a freakazoid mutie.
“So, Danger Room it is,” she declared. At the very least, it would be something for Kendra to do other than walking the halls aimlessly. And Allegra had been kind of intrigued by the whole idea. Might as well go for it.
It seemed odd that Abby didn’t know who had custody of her but perhaps it didn’t really matter. From everything she had read about this place, it was a unique environment so Abby probably got a lot of support from everyone.
“So what’s Cafas like?” Allegra asked. “I’d like to meet him sometime.”
Allegra was glad to hear Abby was so enthusiastic about swimming. Allegra loved it too. “I was on the swim team Freshman year,” Allegra explained. “My best friend, Emma, still is. I promise not to freak out if we go swimming together. It'll be fun.” Sure, it’d be a little strange swimming with a shark girl but Abby seemed nice. Allegra kept telling herself that she’d see a lot of really strange looking people here and she needed to get used to it.
“That sucks that the water here is so dirty,” Allegra said. “Really makes me miss the Pacific already.” It had only been a few days and already Allegra was terribly homesick.
“The Danger Room has holograms? Aren’t those just light? Doesn't sound very dangerous to me.” Allegra asked. “Oh my god, that would be awesome for dates. You could make it look like anything, right? Maybe they call it the Danger Room to keep kids out of there.”
“Yeah, if you could show me Mama T’s office, that’d be great,” Allegra said. She didn’t think there was a ‘cure’ for mutation but it wouldn’t hurt to start researching it. She desperately wanted to be normal and to go back to her normal life.
“No, my room has two beds,” Allegra said. “When they gave it to me they told me I was lucky to get one of the larger rooms. Lucky! My shoe closet back home is larger than that room. I don’t know where I’m going to keep everything. The place is so full of boxes that I can barely walk though. You don’t know who I could talk about, do you? I mean this mansion is huge. I’m not gonna ask for a whole floor like I had back home but maybe something six or seven times bigger than I’ve got now.”
Allegra sighed. “I knew I’d have to make sacrifices but this is just insane!”
"So, are you interested in him as more than a friend?" Allegra asked. "Or at least a fling?"
Allegra did not find the blue guy attractive at all, but everyone had their tastes. There may actually be people that had a blue skin fetish but as far as she was concerned....ewwwww!
Derek seemed to be thinking hard of a dare for her. "I'm pretty fearless so you better think hard," she warned him. "Unless it has something to do with bugs, then I'm turning it down." Allegra smiled. She was the queen of Truth or Dare. Nothing was going to shock her. "I dare you to give someone a random power."
Her eyes widened in fear. "I can't do that," she said. "It's dangerous. I can't just walk over to them and use my powers on them. For one, they're not expecting it and for two, I don't know what power I'm giving them."
She was ready to reject this dare but she felt Derek's eyes piercing her and egging her on.
"Ok, I can use my power on you if you're up for it," she said. "DocProf told me my power won't kill anyone, but it's pretty unpredictable. It's my dare, but you're the one who will be taking the risk."
