Scars/ Tattoos/ Piercings: Allegra has a bellybutton piercing
Other features: N/A
Everyday clothing style: Since money isn't much of an issue, her every day clothing style is quite a bit more dressy and stylish than for your average person. She loves wearing dresses from the hottest designers though will sometimes dress down in leggings and jeans. Making sure she looks good is a huge priority for her and was pretty much a prerequisite at her old school.
Uniform: N/A
Sleepwear: Every time Allegra visits a different city, she buys an oversized T-shirt from that city and these are what she sleeps in.
Miscellaneous clothing:Allegra buys most of her accessories at odds places like garage sales and antique stores and orders handmade stuff off etsy. Even though she wears a lot of designer stuff, she loves the vintage stuff to give her a unique look.
She wears a locket with her sister's picture in it at all times.
While not clothing, her phone is her favorite accessory. She's always got it in hand and you'll often see her texting her friends back home even when she's talking to you. Allegra's a great multi-tasker and she's paying attention to everything you're saying and listens very carefully. .She's not being rude. It just kind of looks like it.
CharacterPersonality: On the surface, Allegra looks like a stuck up rich bitch, and she doesn't mind cultivating that image at first as it keeps people at bay. She's very social and friendly but is nervous around people she doesn't know yet and she'd prefer to get to feel comfortable with them first.
Once you get to know her, Allegra is a very caring girl who would do just about anything for her friends. She loves to have a good time and is pretty much up for anything.
Even deeper, Allegra's a huge ball of insecurities. She's constantly worried about what people are thinking about her and one small slight against her (real or perceived) will send her in a state of worry and panic. She's living under the shadow of her sister with her mother's constantly telling her that she'll never be good enough.Although part of the 'in crowd' back home, Allegra has been the target of bullies and people's opinions get under her skin more than they should.
She can be a bit of a sheep, going along with what her friends are doing. Despite this, she won't put up with anyone being treated unjustly and she will stand up for others even when she finds it almost impossible to stand up for herself.
She had a very sheltered upbringing. Her mother buys her everything and pays people to do Allegra's homework. Allegra doesn't follow the news that much so she really doesn't understand much about how mutants are treated and perceived. She's not shallow but can certainly appear to be at first.
Hobbies/ Interests: Lots of typical stuff for girls her age. Hanging out with friends, shopping, dancing, music. She's a cheerleader and on the track and volleyball teams. She loves going to the beach and is going to miss that a lot when she moves to New York. Allegra loves painting, dancing and crafting.
Job or part time job and description: High school student
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: BUGS! Huge fear of them. Screeching, screaming fear even.
She's also extremely concerned about what people think of her. If she thinks someone doesn't like her, she'll spend all day worrying about it and trying to figure out what she is doing 'wrong.'
Allegra's friends are very important to her and if something bad is happening in one of their lives, she'll get very worried.
Special talents: Allegra's a talented artist and a good dancer. She's very athletic. She knows a little Spanish from her classes but isn't exactly fluent. She's an above average student but often has below average motivation.
MoralityGood/ bad/ neutral/ other: Allegra's definitely good. She'll go out of her way to help people almost to a fault. Sometimes she'll fall in with the wrong crowd and do things she really shouldn’t, but never anything earth shattering evil.
MutationsMutation description: Mutant DNA Manipulation
Allegra has the power to create random mutations in other mutants. She temporarily rewrites her target's DNA to create a temporary secondary mutation. This mutation is completely random and Allegra has no control over what it will be.
To do this, she must be able to see her target and be within ten feet away. She then focuses on her target. She takes on a green glow while her target starts glowing dull red.
The effect happens instantly and lasts as long as Allegra is able to completely focus on maintaining it. Otherwise, the effect dissipates within a minute or two.
Strengths: - Physical touch is not required
- The target gains an innate knowledge of how to use the power. They realize they have the power and will have a basic knowledge of how to use it.
- The target will still have full control over their original mutant power(s) in addition to the temporary secondary mutation. The only exception is when the secondary mutation would somehow naturally cancel out the original (for example, giving heat based powers to an ice mutant.)
- While her power works best on a teammate who knows Allegra is about to grant them an extra power, it can sometimes be used to disorient an enemy who doesn't see this coming. This can be used to distract an opponent, especially if the mutation happens to cause an unexpected physical change (see the ‘Sample RP’ section for an example of this.) Doing this generally only buys a few seconds and can be quite risky since her opponent will gain a basic knowledge how to use the power. Allegra could easily hand her enemy a very powerful ability.
- There’s no limit to the number of times Allegra can affect someone and, in normal situations, using her power doesn’t adversely affect her. In combat situations, however, Allegra can suffer pain or worse and her concentration can be easily broken (see ‘Weaknesses’ for more details on this.)
Weaknesses and Limitations: - This power only works on mutants. It has no effect on humans.
- The secondary mutation Allegra grants is completely random. Sure it can be something completely awesome like the ability to control gravity or fire laser blasts, but it could also be something totally lame or useless like the ability to change hair color or to meow like a cat.
- Additionally, the power could be something negative. The mutation could be extremely brittle bones (not all mutations are positive) or something like uncontrolled optic blasts. It's a huge crap shoot.
- While there's no actual limit to the amount of time Allegra can use her power, there are some limitations. First, she has to wait before the secondary mutation wears off on her previous target. This usually takes a minute or two.
- Secondly, Allegra can feel some of the things her target feels. If the target exerts themselves, Allegra feels tired as well and this makes it difficult for her to get the energy to use her power again. If her target is injured, Allegra feels some of the pain even though she does not get physically injured herself. If the target is knocked out, Allegra gets knocked out too. Allegra could possibly die if the target dies while under her control.
- Allegra can't use the power on herself. She's just a normal teenage girl without any resources, skills or other powers to fight off powerful foes.
Physical AbilitiesGeneral Physical Capabilities: (Strength/Speed/Reflexes/ Stamina/Flexibility) Allegra runs and goes to the gym regularly and is in as good a shape as an a 15 year old girl who exercises regularly can be.
Fighting Style: Allegra isn't really a fighter. She can run away very quickly, however.
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: n/a
History Of Your Character Allegra's father was August Avers. If you don't remember him, you can be forgiven. He was a second rate actor in the early 90s. He starred in 'Badges and Bullets' which only lasted one season. Don't remember that one? Ok, how about the 'Monkey Madness' movie franchise? Nope. Well, I guess that's why he's living in Idaho selling insurance these days.
But back in the day, he was quite the hottie and socialite/model Dara Jensen snatched him up. They got married and had a lovely daughter, Angelique, who was everything to them. Five years later (around the time the fourth 'Monkey Madness' movie had gone straight to DVD) Dara had an unplanned pregnancy and Allegra was born. By this time, August was officially a has-been and another child just brought strain on the couple's relationship. Two years later, August left.
Dara was quite the has-been at this point as well and lived her life vicariously through Angelique. She pushed for the girl to become an actress while Allegra was always just an afterthought. Dara gave Allegra whatever she wanted as long as it wasn't attention, love or encouragement.
Two years ago, Angelique died mysteriously. There were rumors that drugs were involved but so much of the investigation was intentionally swept under the carpet that Allegra never learned exactly how her sister died. To this day, she likes to think Angelique passed away quickly and painlessly without any regrets.
With Angelique gone, Dara now needed someone to live her life though and Allegra was the only daughter she had left. You'd think Allegra would be happy to finally be noticed, but things were now far worse. All Allegra heard was how much better, prettier and smarter Angelique was. This kicked Allegra's self esteem issues into overdrive.
Oh, and Allegra just found out she was a mutant. That certainly didn't help things. For more on that, please check out the 'Sample RP' section.
RoleplayWhere did you learn about this site?: Google
Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Nope. I just got here.
Sample RP: First date ever. Worst date ever.
Even before Bradley arrived two hours late to pick her up, Allegra knew it was going to be a disaster. It was arranged by her mother, after all.
"Honey, your sister had a steady boyfriend when she was 13," Dara lectured her daughter. "You should thank me for this. Oh my. You're looking a little chunky. Haven't you been working out? Well, there's nothing we can do about that now. Just remember to smile."
When Bradley arrived in his Mercedes, Allegra learned he had only two subjects he'd discuss; himself and his Mercedes. It wasn't even a discussion. It was a non-stop monologue where Allegra barely had a chance to interject a nod or an uh-huh. She just vegged out letting herself get lost in her own thoughts. Her gallant date didn't even seem to notice.
Allegra did learn Bradley was nine years older than she was (Can you say 'creep factor?' Thanks, mom.) When Allegra mentioned she was vegan, Bradley suggested a steak house. Even better, he ordered for her. At the table, Bradley gave her an instant replay of everything he had just told her ad nauseum in the car. Surreptitiously, she slid her phone out of her purse and started texting under the table.
"Excuse me, I'm talking," Bradley lectured her. "Hey, you're not going to eat the rest of your dinner, are you?"
"Knock yourself out," Allegra sighed. "Literally," she thought.
The ride home was mercifully silent. Bradley obviously didn't think she deserved to hear tales of his greatness a third time. Allegra was contemplating how good a nice quiet night's sleep would be when Bradley pulled over on the highway.
"You had a really good time tonight," he said as he leaned over to the passenger seat then hovered over her like a vulture in heat.
"Hey!" Allegra shouted trying to push him away. "No. Stop. Please, just take me home."
"Oh, you're quite the tease," Bradley said.
"What part of 'no' do you think is teasing," Allegra shouted back. "Please! Get off me!"
She held her glowing green hand up to block his clumsy advances.
Wait. Glowing green? Actually, her whole body was glowing. Not that Romeo even seemed to notice. In fact, he now had an eerie red glow around him.
"I could tell how you looked at me," he said as he peered at her with glowing red eyes which made him look even creepier than normal. "I could tell from the first time you saw me."
Then things totally went crazy. Bradley's entire body hardened and morphed into rock.
"What the hell... kkkkkk!!" Bradley tried to shout but by now his tongue was was a heavy slab lying the stone canyon that was his gaping mouth. His rocky skin started to crack and peel and lava seeped out of the cracks.
Allegra darted out of the car screaming as burning ooze flowed over the passenger seat. She didn't even remember jumping over the railing and down through the brush away from the highway. She didn't stop running until she got to the beach and just collapsed on the sand.
"This can't be happening! This can't be happening!" she cried to herself. Her hands were still glowing green. She frantically rubbed them against her torn dress hoping to shake the glow off. When that didn't work, she just rolled herself into a fetal position letting the steady sound of the waves calm her.
She didn't know how long she had been lying there but when she opened her eyes, the glow was gone. She still felt in a state of shock and disbelief and needed to talk to someone that didn't think she was completely crazy or who would at least give their honest opinion that she was completely crazy.
She called her best friend, Emma, and after a few tearful attempts, Allegra was able to recount everything that happened.
"You think I might be a mutant?" Allegra asked when Emma finally gave her assessment of the situation. "But I can't be a mutant. That kind of thing only happens to people in bad neighborhoods, right?"
"It's something you're born with and it can happen to anyone," Emma explained. "I did a paper about it for Mr. Green's class. Listen, hang tight and I'm going to come and get you. You can stay at my place tonight. My mom won't mind."
"No, it's fine," Allegra said. "I'm fine. I've got an Uber coming.
Allegra wanted to nothing more than to be with her best friend, but she was afraid she'd put her in danger. God, was that going to be her life from now on? Would she have to live like a hermit to keep from hurting people?
"I'll text you when I get home," Allegra told Emma. "Promise."
Allegra's ride came quickly and they passed the Mercedes still pulled over at the side of the road. There was Bradley standing by his precious, apparently unharmed other than the fact that his clothes were burnt and in tatters and his car was trashed. Allegra slid down in her seat not wanting to risk making eye contact with him as they drove by. She was relieved that he appeared to be fine and happy and also that he also appeared to be very miserable. At least something good happened tonight.
She was on edge the whole ride there worrying for her driver's safety but nothing happened. When she got home, Allegra tried sneaking in without her mother noticing. She didn't want to explain how her dress got ripped or anything else about the night for that matter. Allegra got halfway up the hall when she heard her mother’s drunken slurred voice.
"You're home early," she called up to her.
"It's midnight, mom," Allegra said. "On a school night." Allegra really wished she had one of those parents that set a curfew and punished their kids for coming home late.
"So... how did it go with you and Bradley?"
"Not so well," Allegra answered.
"Oh? What did you do wrong?" her mother asked. "You need to try harder to get boys to like you."
Allegra stood on the top of the stairs with her fists clenched. It took everything she had to try to stay calm. If she was a mutant, her powers might act up again and then what would happen? Would she turn her mother into a human volcano or worse?
"We'll talk about it tomorrow, mom. Good night."
Allegra ran into her room and just fell into her bed. God, did this night really happen? She wanted to just float into dreamland but she was too wired. So instead, she went online looking for any information she could find about mutants. Emma had forwarded her some sites and Allegra found many more. Allegra was embarrassed to admit how little she knew about the subject of mutants. For all she knew, one of her friends could be a mutant. They could be anyone anywhere.
Allegra found there were mutant support groups and mutant hate groups. There were even mutant conspiracy groups. She found what looked like a nonprofit group that supported the mutant cause but found many more groups that opposed it. It was scary how many people out there would hate her just for how she was born. Of course, after what she did tonight, Allegra wasn't sure she could blame them.
She was about to give up from information overload when Emma sent her a link for a mutant school in New York. Allegra did not want to leave her home and her friends but she needed someone that could help. And this school looked very exclusive. Her mom would love that.
Allegra spent the night reading up on the school and debating whether she should even contact them. For all she knew, it could just be a front for one of those many mutant hate groups she read about. But it was worth a shot.
She liked their mission statement and had a good feeling about them so she sent them an email. In the morning, she'd probably give them a call too but she hoped maybe there would be some night owls there that would get her email and respond right away.
Allegra sat on her bed pondering everything that had just happened. Her life used to suck. Now it was completely insane.
This would be a very long night.
