The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

How dare this white furred creature challenge her and think it could get away with it! Somewhere underneath the boar crock's rage, Amber's mind clung on and tried desperately to regain control. This was a new and completely unpleasant experience. Normally the instincts of her different shapes were buried deep under her own mind, there as only a distant shadow to be called upon at will when needed. She'd had her old forms for such a long time that she'd forgotten what it was like with a new one, forgotten the primal power of its own mind before it'd been tamed to her will.
It was such a satisfying feeling to make solid contact with her rival. Of course, her rival was much larger than her normal prey and instead of stunning the creature so she could go in for the kill, it seemed to make it more angry. Although a prehistoric crocodile, in many ways she was more like a reptilian great cat than she was a crocodile when it came to her hunting methods. She didn't hunt from the water and she preferred to stalk her prey, stun it with a powerful headbutt, an then tear into it with her impressive array of teeth.
The great bear reared up on its hind legs and came down with a powerful swipe to her snout. This time she only managed to partially dodge the great blow and felt a small trickle of blood flow down the side of her head. Matching the creature bellow for bellow, when it came down to try and embrace her, attempted to rip a chunk of flesh out of one of its paws with her teeth.

The large, red mutant seemed to think her cute, so that was something. She was, in fact, a carnivore in that form but not especially inclined towards eating humans or mutants. To her knowledge, that had only happened once and that was a deeply regrettable situation during which time she wasn't properly in control of her faculties or memories.
Clearly, her methods of communication weren't exactly getting her very far, which was not exactly surprising. It might be interesting to find out if a mutant who could communicate with birds might also be able to communicate with certain types of dinosaurs, given the evolutionary similarity. A question for another time. The question relevant now was whether or not to return to her human form and initiate proper communication. It was still light out, which was a problem, but since her return she'd taken to bringing a black shade umbrella with her wherever she went. It extended the time she could be outside without burning by a good hour and made it possible for short trips during the daylight. They were still on Mansion property, so it wasn't as if she had any risk of accidentally losing track and time and getting stranded.
Just as she was preparing to go find her pile of robes, the woman with the second voice returned. Her ears perked up at the mention of Jupiter, one of her missing uncles. She chirped at the woman. If she knew where Jupiter was, maybe she knew where Abyss and Aura were too!

For the first time Amber felt a real sense of urgency, almost verging on panic. In many ways, she hated her human body. It was weak, lacking in natural defenses and woefully lacking in proper senses. She had no armor, no claws and barely had teeth. Her eyes, ears and nose barely qualified as functional in comparison to any of her other forms. She was learning to appreciate what it could do: hands were glorious things for a great variety of different reasons and that almost made up for the lack of anything else. Now, however, was one of those times when such appreciation felt hollow.
There were literally hundreds of different drawers, any one which could possibly house the illusive fossil which had been her reason for coming here at all. Fortunately, each of them came with a neat little label indicating the species found within as well as the year and date of its discovery and where it was first discovered. It was still a daunting task to read each and every label given the need for haste, but at least it was faster than having to manually open each drawer.
Dozens of tags were read until her goal was found. Kaprosuchus: Discovered in Niger in the year 2009. Now, finally, her goal was in sight. She paused for a moment to listen in case anyone was approaching and, hearing nothing, pulled open the drawer. Inside was the almost complete skull of the boar crock and she smiled to herself before reaching down a hand and placing it upon the skull. At the moment of contact, an almost electric shock went through her system and she felt the compsognathus disappear from her body and be replaced by this new and fantastic creature.

"I definitely mean totally awesome," Ambrosia agreed, matching his enthusiasm. Just because large parts of the world took issue with the many shades of visible mutants, didn't mean she did. It was refreshing, in fact, to meet someone who looked different who embraced that difference. Of course, she embraced her own differences but it was often easier for her because she didn't scare people by looks alone.
"I'll bet they're not," she agreed. "I'm thinking only really dumb people would bother you. Or people with really big sticks." She laughed and winked. "More than once I've wished I could just growl and have unwanted bros hitting on me take a step back in fear. But, you know how it is." OK, so it had only happened a few times but that was more than enough. Only once had she resorted to fire and, well, lets just say he'd never tried that again.
"The Wooden Nickel, that's a good one." She walked in and chose a seat. "So, just drinks or food as well?" The prices for both were reasonable, one of the reasons she liked the place.

This park was one of Ambrosia's favourites and one she'd performed in a few times before. Part of a mixed organization of both humans and mutants, she did drum circles and dancing in order to build energy and awareness towards the cause of mutant/human peaceful relations. When her little group had first formed, they usually performed in the same park every time. Unfortunately, the idea of peaceful relations was a controversial one among many and they had been interrupted by violent elements a few times, both mutant and human supremacists, eventually leading to the decision to start varying their locations. Now days they were rarely bothered, but still had to remain vigilant.
Their last performance at this particular park had been about a month ago. Normally she wouldn't come back at least for a few months, but what harm could come of just the two of them? It wasn't like they were advertising their presence and it wasn't like they were likely to draw a crowd. No, it was just two women making music in the park; nothing threatening or controversial about that.
Ambrosia was just tuning her guitar when Cait arrived. "Cait! I'm doing wonderful and how are you? Can I give you a hug? I hug all my friends." If given the ok, she would place her guitar on the ground and run up to her new friend with a friendly embrace. Hugs were the best!

"I guess I'll just have to rely upon my natural charisma and charm then, right?" She winked. Combine that with a little basic online know-how and surely she'd be able to convince someone into helping fund her ideas. People would be surprised just how far the right words and a pretty smile directed to the right ears could get a girl.
"I bet, a job like yours, can get pretty crazy at times. No partner right now, although I've had a couple of fun flings since coming to New York. Relationships can so so complicated though, you know? I don't think I'm ready for anything serious right now. Moms are both back in LA. I miss them a lot." She really should go and visit them soon. She knew they missed her just as much as she missed them.

It was the size, more than anything, that Amber found challenging. She had one other form that was heavier than the boar crock, but nothing that was as long. Bodily awareness was important and that was something that was much simpler in smaller forms than it was in big ones. Swishing her long tail back and forth, she felt it collide with a tree. Fortunately said tree was old and sturdy and she did not damage, but that definitely indicted the need to learn to control this new body better before bringing it out into public.
She let out another roar, liking the strength and loudness of the sound. Her dionychus form, which was her favourite and most commonly used, sounded very bird-like and mostly spoke in chirps, trills and screeches. Not always the most intimidating sounds ever. This was completely different and she could imagine her enemies cowering before her based upon sound alone. That, combined with her size and massive teeth lead to a very satisfying package.
Immersed in her explorations, she didn't notice the polar bear until it was right there in front of her. It roared in challenge of her, a sound just as impressive as her own. Had she been experienced in the use of her new body, its instincts would be buried deep and fully under the control of her own psyche. As it was, the body was new and untried and its instincts hovered on the surface, waiting to take over at a moments notice. She was the apex predator and this white furred creature was challenging her. That challenge had to be met!
She let out another roar of her own, this time in challenge of the creature who dared think it could take her own. Darting to the side and barely avoiding the claws aimed at her head, she attempted to ram the beast with the bony ridges of her head, as she would any normal prey.

The remaining tables were searched without incident but also without finding her target. In her present form, there was no way for her to open any of the drawers, which required both opposable thumbs as well as enough weight to actually pull them open. Of course, to imprint on the fossil she'd also have to be human but it was much more dangerous to take on that shape for the relatively long period of time necessary to go through countless drawers.
Once again, it was down to the waiting game. Although it was difficult to determine exactly how long she'd been in the lab for, it had to have been over an hour. Time was on her side and now it became more necessary than ever to ensure there was no one around to see her. The next wait was an especially long one and one difficult to do patiently. Not only did she have to wait until there were no detectable voices in the lab but no voices for long enough to assume that everyone had gone home for the night. She was hoping to not have to remain all night, but now it was seeming like the most probably option.
When all voices had departed and all but basic lighting had been turned out, she returned to her human form. In moments, the tiny lizard was replaced with a naked, mostly human woman. Modesty was a confusing human convention and one she had little care for, especially given that she was the only person presently in the building. It had been a long time since the cold had bothered her and she didn't notice the slight cool air. Although she assumed everyone had left for the night, one never knew when someone might try to enter the lab so time was of the essence to go through all the drawers until she found her target fossil.

Ambrosia was excited about the prospect of playing with a new friend. She'd only met Cait briefly, a patron at the shop she worked in, and they'd hit it off right away. It turned out, they were both musicians with a passion for music. Always looking for new people to jam with, it was only a matter of time before the two of them got together to create auditory art.
That's what today was supposed to be all about. It was beautiful and warm and she had the day off work with few personal responsibilities. She gave her new friend a call and they made arrangements to meet at the park with some acoustic instruments. Outside really was the best place to play, in her opinion, although it came with the obvious limitation of no electric instruments unless you also happened to bring a generator and that sounded like a whole lot of work.
Parking her little smart car, today she had brought her violin and her acoustic guitar. Walking from her car to the park, she picked a nice little patch of shade under a large tree and waited for her companion to arrive.

Amber wasn't sure how long she had been living in the woods. A long time. Months, certainly, maybe longer. She had begun her self-imposed exile when her pack had disappeared, abandoned her for another life, maybe, or someone they found to be more useful than herself. With them gone, there was nothing holding her to the human human world except pain and loneliness and so she left it behind. She was something all together different than human, all together. Half dead and half dinosaur, creature of the wild, what need did she have of it?
She knew she'd been making her way steadily north and west, hunting for prey as a deinonychus. There was no final destination, no real purpose to the direction save to get as far away as she could of the city that had caused so much grief. Staying as far away from human civilization as she could, she mostly subsisted upon wild animals like deer, wild dogs, raccoons and other creatures. Occasionally she would raid a campsite for food but mostly she relied upon her own proficiency as a hunter and everything about the body she wore spoke of being born to hunt. Fast and agile with superb senses, nothing in this era had ever encountered something like her.
As she moved north, the weather got steadily colder, even with her resistance to cold. At night, she'd fashion herself a den to keep warm and during the day she'd keep moving. Sometimes she'd stay in a given area for a day, sometimes for a couple of weeks. There was nothing to dictate her actions except her own whims and desires. If not for the crushing loneliness, it was a life she might be able to live indefinitely. What need did she have of others, anyway, when she could achieve all her basic needs herself.
On that particular day, a terrible storm ravaged the area and she emerged from the relative warmth and safety of her den later than usual. She was hungry and needed to find something to hunt and eat. This far north, it was becoming more difficult to find prey; it was, perhaps, time to start moving south again. The cold was also becoming ever more problematic.
"Who goes there?"
And then there was a man lying prone and possibly dying in the snow. She approached cautiously, letting out a trilling chirp. Sniffing at the man lying before her, she could tell by his body heat and the sound of his breathing that he was still alive, although obviously in bad shape. What she was supposed to do with a dying man in the snow in the middle of nowhere she had no idea. Its not like she had medical knowledge or any supplies with her at all, not even so much as a blanket to keep him warm.
The first step was to construct some sort of den or makeshift shelter to keep warm in and this, at least, she had experience with. Utilizing her different forms to the best of their abilities, she made a sort of make-shift igloo around the man's body, padding it with any grasses and leaves she was able to gather and making it large enough for both of them to fit inside. Next she went hunting and managed to find herself an arctic hare. Of course, she had no knowledge of how to start a fire in order to cook the creature and knew that humans typically did not eat raw meat, but at least it was a start.
Once food and shelter was taken care of, she returned the the makeshift shelter and returned to human form, sitting near the entrance. Inside, it was warm enough that her lack of clothing didn't bother her, although most humans would still find it very cold. Outside was a different matter and even with her resistance, it was better to remain inside the shelter. If the stranger, if he ever awoke, had any problem with her being naked, that would be his problem to deal with; it wasn't as if she had anything with her to solve that problem.

"Come on in!"
A deep breath for courage before she opened the door and entered the room. She had only vague recollections of the older woman but from what she saw once the door was open, she hadn't changed all that much. What she had not recalled was her strange aura that nullified mutant powers. A few steps in and she felt a weird tingle come over her entire body. Looking down at her hands, where normally she saw mummified flesh, off yellow and leathery, she now saw pale, soft, hands. "Oh."
"Um, I'm here to fill out papers so I can finish my GED. Ghost said I should." Her words were obviously distracted and her reversion to her human body was deeply unnerving. Good or bad, she wasn't entirely certain, but it had been many years since she'd looked like a regular human.

"Hangouts and music will definitely happen soon." Making new friends was neat and definitely and underrated activity, all things considered.
"Let me help you get that ringed up." She grinned a the name reference. Cait Sith. Lol. What fun. Scanning the books into the computer, she quoted the money owed before accepting payment.
"Enjoy the books. Pleasure to meet you as well and I agree, instruments to happen soon." She watched the other woman walk out of the story and prepared for her won short trip home.

Well now, it sounded like she might have a future festival buddies. Neat.
She nodded, acknowledging the challenges of raiding money. "As a performer, I've done little things here and there. But I think they trick is to find the right person, someone with both the money and the passion." She had one but sadly not the other.
"I'll bet you have nightmares at tight." She shook her head sympathetically before raising her margarita to a clink to the good nature of margaritas everywhere.
"Onto more pleasant things, then. Do you have a partner? A family?"

She knew there were a lot of people that lived at the Mansion, both students and non-students so it wasn't surprising that Ghost wasn't known by everyone. She was the fact Amber associated with the place, but she wasn't really basing that on anything but the fact that she was the one that had found and brought her in both in past and present.
She was finding Jack a little hard to understand, but she nodded anyway. "I don't really drink. Was too young when I left and now that I'm back I don't really understand the point." From what she had seen, alcohol tended to make people loud, sloppy and irrational, none of which were favourable for a hunter like herself. Yet another human trait she didn't understand. Maybe she should be making a list.
"I've never even been inside a nightclub. Do you think they'd let me inside?" Yet another thing she'd been too young to enter before she left and yet another somewhat baffling human activity. At least it seemed more fun than getting drunk.
