The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

There were long minutes of silence on the radio, before Jewel's voice reached Sam again. "Steel? We've got the lady, I hope you have the matching pair." there was a certain cheerful triumph in her voice. Anyone would have sounded the same after their first successful police action. "It cost us a few pretty pieces of the jewelry she stole, but I can make new ones if they need me to. Anyway, Sergeant got a car, and we are on our way." Jewel and the Sergeant arrived about fifteen minutes later, in a car that's backseat was apparently empty. Lily got out and walked over to Sam to report. "It might not look like it but she is there. She is just either too stubborn, or permanently invisible. Too bad, I bet the handcuff I made her would look very pretty, with the gold and all." she smiled "Everything all right here?"
Lily smiled a mysterious smile at the gryphon boy over the ice cream. "Indeed I am" she nodded "I am a trainee anyway. I joined a few months after I moved into the Mansion. I guess I was bored." she chuckled. She really wasn't, not back then with all the new stuff to learn. "Also, I wanted to do something good. Make a difference and all that. And even though I had no idea how my powers could help anyone, or if I could even make a... how did you call it?... superhero team... I turned out to be really interesting. And helped me discover new ways of using my gift." she grinned "Do I sound like a paid advertisement yet?... Anyway. Compared to making jewelry, training for the team is definitely something new." Lily didn't really know where they were going; she was content with just walking around for now. She glanced down at the boy again. "Your turn."
"Sergeant, would you please..." "On it." Lily smirked as she ran on, following the light of the jewels only she could sense. It was probably the adrenailne, but she was not afraid of her opponent. The thief might be invisible, but if that was her only mutation, Jewel was ready to take her. She had her weapons... Twenty feet. That was all she needed, and she could tell she was getting closer. Her fingers started tingling with the pull of her powers. Almost... "Get lost, b*tch!" the invisible woman yelled back at her, but her voice was not so convincing. She was running out of breath too. And with the shouting, she slowed down for a step, and that gave Jewel all the distance she needed. Extending her hands in the direction of the thief, Lily pulled on the jewels in the bag. One strong pull, and the invisible woman lost her balance, fighting with the straps of the bag. Jewel bit her lips as she focused on using her powers. Don't you dare drop that bag...
Lily smiled as she listened to the gryphon boy. It was good to hear that kids found a good home at the Mansion. She was pretty much grown up by the time she moved in, after living with her amazing family, so she could only try to imagine how it must have felt for a younger kid, or one without a family and home. She knew she was an exception among mutants, when it came to family background. "I know what you mean" she smiled "When I first moved in it was weird to have all that time only for working on my powers. And then, when the training started, it got all crazy and busy... and now it is kind of caml again. Until the next mission, that is..." she chuckled. She didn't mind a quiet summer, and maybe a vacation. "Not like I had much excitement in my life before I came here. The pace is different down South" she chuckled, turning her ice cream around because it started dripping on the other side "What would you like to do, once you get bored with flying around the school?"
Lily kept running; somewhere ahead, always just one turn farther away, she could hear running steps echoing and the occasional splash when the invisible woman stepped in water, or jumped. She did her best to keep up; her training proved to be very useful. It was dark down there; she relied on her sixth sense, since the stoled goods were still shining like a lighthouse in the dark... "We are headed... west" she decided after a while "west-southwest" she added after a turn "she is fast, but not superhuman, just a good runner. Yes I can track her from above ground too, but only to a one mile radius, and I could lose track easily... I'll send the sergeant upstairs to get us a vehicle. How's the other one?"
Lily could see the relief in Carrick's face and posture, and she bit back a grin. That was a lesson he needed to learn, and she had made sure he would remember it for a long time. Now it was all done, and done well, and it was time for her to play big sister again. She walked down the street with him towards the park till she spotted an ice cream vendor, and she nodded towards it with a smile. "Here we go. Pick whatever you like, I'm paying." Lily liked ice cream, and her favorite was chocolate and vanilla; a few minutes later, once she and Carrick both got all the ice cream they wanted, she started walking again, this time more like wandering aimlessly, enjoying a day when she didn't really have anything to do. "So, Carrick. How is life in the school, and everything?" she smiled at the boy. Everything was back to normal. For a while.
Jewel found another man hole that she and Sergeant McKinley could use to get back to the street level. It was quiet in the back street, with no vehicles parked; however the robbers were trying to get away, it wasn't by car. Jewel frowned; they still had the element of surprise since their poweres weren't known, and she didn't like that one bit. She monitored the second robber still in the back of the shop; he had managed collecting most of the jewels that had some value (they shone more brightly in her mind), and was apparently packing up. Jewel motioned to the sergeant to take a position at the back door; the silver around her wrists shifted, ready to take action. As the shots were fired on the other side of the shop, the back door opened; and the sergeant made a mistake. When nobody appeared in the door for a few long seconds, he stepped closer to look. The next moment he was on his back, and a female voice without a body attached yelled out a string of curses. Jewel's eyes widened; running steps echoed through the alley; Jewel's hands moved; there was a shriek, and something dropped onto the ground, before there were more running steps, and Jewel didn't even bother to look if the sergeant was keeping up. Her voice rang out in Sam's ear. "Cold Steel, we've got the other one on the run, and she's invisible. She dropped some of the jewelry and I can track her by the rest she is carrying. We're down in the sewers, heading away from the building. She is fast." Jewel frowned as she ran, following her sixth sense. I didn't see this coming...
"Yes, shopping" Lily responded cheerfully, overdoing the role of the 'rich girl with too much free time' just a tiny little bit. "I need a new dress. And shoes, maybe." She really didn't. But that didn't stop her from dragging Carrick along as she walked down the street, stopping in front of shopwindows, murmuring to herself trying to decide which shop to actually go in. She wasn't planning on doing it all through the afternoon, but since the gryphon was already skipping class and stealing money, he might as well suffer a bit. If it cost her a new dress, so be it. When Lily finally found a shop she liked, she walked inside, and because her presence usually spelled 'money' wherever she went, she was instantly surrounded by helpful shop assistants trying to sell her dresses at obscene prices. She cheerfully spent the next half an hour walking in and out of the changing room in different attires, and asking Carrick's opinion of everything. A long time later she was the proud owner of a brand new summer dress, and out of the shop with the gryphon in tow. "So, Carrick. What do you say? Ready for an ice cream?"
"Good." Lily nodded with a cheerful smile "Need a ride back to the Mansion? You could make it there before lunch break ends." Yes, she knew students were supposed to be having classes, and she had spent enough time around Sam lately for some of his mother hen (?!) nature to rub off on her. Carrick was a kid, hence a student, hence he was bound to have some classes scheduled for the afternoon. She didn't mean it, though. He had already skipped the morning classes to hang out on the streets and pick pockets (mutant-hater pockets, but still), so why not make him pay. Jewel counted silently to ten, letting the offer sink in before she shrugged a similarly cheerful shrug. "Or, if your afternoon is free, you could tag along. I have a few places I want to check out, but we could also, hmm, get ice cream or something on the way." She smiled at the baby gryphon, swinging the shopping bags and humming to herself. Win-win. Carrcik either chooses to go back to school, in which case she personally shall deliver him to the hands of his teachers, ot he chooses to tag along... well, sh was sure she could make the afternoon a healthy balance of death by shopping, and some ice cream time. "So, what do you say?"
"Got it." Jewel nodded. She could sense a big bulk of precious metal and gemstone moving around in the back of the shop. She didn't like the idea of being shot at, but Sam was more than prepared to handle the robber with the guns. She just needed to catch the other one, right? "Sewer it is" she nodded with a smirk "Finding the right direction is not going to be a problem. Just make sure to keep this one occupied." she nodded towards the front of the shop as policemen opened the manhole. A few minutes later Jewel was down in the sewer with Sergeant McKinley, focusing on her sixth sense to determine their position under the shop. There was still plenty of jewelry left up there. "My ability is to sense and maipulate precious metals and gemstones" she explained to the sergeant as she took the lead "Kind of perfect for situations like this." She knew that any person with a healthy imagination could picture her being the person up ther instead of down here. Her abilities were good for that kind of work too. Just like most abilities were. Jewel stopped a few minutes later, looking up. "We are right under the shop now. We just need to find a way up that leads us to the back door." She could still sense the person above their heads moving around, carrying more and more jewelry and gemstones. If he (she?) kept working like that, Jewel would be able to come up with a pretty big surprise when the back door opened...
