The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Xavia started to apologize for the night club thing and Kendra cut her off. "Don't ever be sorry for that. That weren't your fault. That was some assholes, being assholes, and you got nutt'n to be sorry for!" Kendra reminded her. She smiled and pulled Xavia into another hug. Kendra could feel her eyes watering up at the thought of what her friend had been through. It was overwhelming even for her and she hadn't even been the one who was really attacked.
Kendra admired the strength of Xaiva and how she carried herself despite everything that had happened. If it had been her, she would have surely withered and cracked. She would have sunk away from the world and shut everyone and everything out. She would have secluded herself to her room and felt nothing but pity. That's what she did when she got shot. She felt weak, she felt like she wasn't strong enough to handle what life was throwing at her. Kendra had just wanted to curl up and disappear, but she didn't. Artair had helped her see that she needed help and she was getting it. Opening up to Xaiva was a big first step. She was dealing with her emotional baggage in babysteps and that was ok.
Kendra wiped her eyes dry before releasing her from the hug. "How bout we get sum lunch? I'm starved." She cried laughing a little. Pulling Kendra's eyes fell on the rosey nature of Xavia's cheeks. She was adoreable. A natural beauty. Artair would be crazy not to want to see her again. Kendra didn't think her lunch invitation would get turned down. She was eating for two now after all, or three as it turned out. Kendra sweetened the deal "I'm buyin."

Composing herself a bit Kendra jotted down the last of her notes. Well looks like my article is just about going to write itself. Kendra thought. She took a sip of her coffee and set it down on the desk before turning back to Derek. Greeting him with a warm smile she crept back into her thoughts. What a great guy. She mused.
"Looks like that's it. I should have just'a bout everythang I need for my article. Thanks I really appreciate it. Should have this thang sent in and ready for next month's issue. I'll have'ta get'cha a copy." She said with a smile. Kendra was ready to type everything up and get it emailed over to Buster her editor. She was sure that it was going to be a huge hit.
Kendra opened her laptop and opened up a new text file. Turning back to Derek, handsome, handsome Derek She reached out her hand to shake. "Well, I thank we did good. And it was good getting to know a bit about'cha. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of each other since we both work for Xavia. " Kendra would have loved to hang out more, but she had a deadline and she hadn't submitted anything in awhile. She did like having money in her pocket to buy important things like food and things of that nature. Kendra moved to the door and opened it for Derek, hugging him lightly she gave him a kiss on the cheek more out of impulse than anything else. "Swing by later maybe we can hang out." She said boldy. Hang out? The socially awkward hermit crab Kendra Dillenger wanted to hang out with someone? Man oh man, this is going to be a good article. She thought.

Kendra was cozy and comfortable sleeping in room 206. Her body was resting nestled between silk sheets with the window open. A slight breeze pushed through the curtains and blew her hair around her face. Her astral spirit was downstairs in the kitchen with a magazine in front of her on the table. Kendra looked up when a beautiful blonde walked into the kitchen. She said nothing as the young woman went about making a snack. Kendra simply watched her with some interest.
Kendra was invisible as she sat at the table. No reason for anyone to think they weren't alone. Her brown eyes narrowed as she watched an apple and peanut butter come out. Heck, it was even curious enough to get a slight eyebrow raise out of the Georgia bell. Not the combination she would have gone with. As meaningless as her choice in snack was, it was enough to at least distract Kendra from her magazine as she followed her into the living room.
Kendra moved quietly. Her bare feet padding over the plush carpet. She didn't have any plans on going out tonight. She was feeling rather lazy so she didn't bother to leave her shoes on when she fell asleep. Kendra was wearing a tank top and a pair of pajama pants. Over her slender frame she had a lightweight pink hoody, unzipped. It didn't matter what you looked like when no one could see you. Moving along the back of the couch she couldn't help but peek over the girl's shoulder. History? Bleck! She thought. Not her favorite subject. Her mind drudged through the monotony of what it was like to still be in school and she frowned.
With a slight shrug of her shoulders she jumped on the opposite couch landing with a plop. It might have been heard if it hadn't been for the insistent barking of the little dog. Kendra stuck her tongue out at the dock in a mocking gesture. She wasn't even sure if the dog could see her as much as it could sense her. Perhaps it smelled the strawberry shampoo in her fiery locks. Kendra laid back on the couch and observed the scene before her.
Everything that was on her person was as invisible as she was. It wouldn't be long though until the girl smelled the sudden mysterious appearance of cigarette smoke. Kendra was itching to light one up. A warm smile pulled across her lips as she thought about having a bit of fun. Mischievous fun, but still fun none the less. Kendra slowly rose from her couch and moved over to the little table where the textbook was.
Kendra waited for a moment when the girl looked away and she quietly closed the textbook. Kendra grabbed the remote control for the tv and slide it a little closer to the girl. It was on the edge of the table now, easily within arms reach. I'm such a bad influence. She thought trying not to laugh. Kendra was going to see how much she could really influence her before making herself known. A little suggestion here or there from an unseen fellow procrastinator. What was the harm in that?

Kendra was quite for a long time. Her eyes searched over Derek's face. She tried to express in her brown eyes all the compassion and understanding she felt without saying a word. She wanted to hug him, to reach over and let him know that it was ok. She came to the mansion for similar reasons she knew what he was feeling for the most part.
Kendra watched as he took the coffee and added 7 sugars to it. She stared at him dumbly for a few minutes. 7 sugars? Was he trying to give himself cancer or diabetes? Kendra looked down at her own coffee that only had caramel creamer in it. She shook her head lightly as she asked her last question.
"So if you could give a message to those folk, those hateful mutant despising people who just don't understand that we're just people just like them.... What would it be?" It was Kendra's final question she felt like she had enough for her interview. She was going to type up a good little article and email it to her boss back in Georgia. She saw everything that Derek had to overcome was going to be inspiring not just to mutants but to the gay community as well, in some small way; even though Derek hadn't done anything particularly heroic he was a hero.
Kendra watched him a moment as he seemed to try and come up with an answer. The light poured in from the window behind him. The light gleemed off the side of his face making him seem brighter. She watched him with interested eyes and she was really taking him in. She was trying to gather evne subtle clues about the man before her, from the way he talked, the way he carried himself.... The way his eyes just seemed to. Nope!
Kendra was leaning one arm on the desk and propping her head up with her hand as she talked to Derek. She had stared to... For a second, get lost in his eyes. He seemed to breathe confidence and charm, he was warm and inviting. Genuine, honest, compassionate, obviously very good looking. Kendra hadn't allowed herself to really notice, she was so awkward and nervous before, but something was happening. She found herself becoming more comfortable around him and that had caused her mind to wander just the slightest.
Clearing her throat Kendra blinked a few times as her head slipped of her hand. It was awkward. She looked like she had nodded off for a second, and she had. Only she slipped into a quiet fantasy, a daydream; one she wasn't going to admit as her cheeks blushed slightly. Well, great job girl, real professional. She thought a moment. It was the way the light hit him so perfectly that made her loose herself a moment. "Well.. Er.. Um... I'm sorry honey what did you say?" Kendra asked again now biting on the eraser of her pencil. She had already made a bit of a fool of herelf asking him up to her room in a really awkward, forward way now this? Get'chur self together girl! She thought silently.

Kendra pulled nervously at the hem of her shirt some more as Xavia had asked why she didn't tell her about being shot. The truth was, Kendra didn't want her to worry. It was simple, and it was stupid. Kendra had seen the lengths her friend would go to protect someone and herself. Her demons were hungry and had sharp teeth when they came out to play. Kendra found herself a bit embarrassed that she didn't tell her sooner.
"I guess' I didn't wanta spill ma leftovers on your plate, your plate was full nough with everythang you went through." Kendra said in her sweet southern way. She was referring to the night in the club. It hadn't been that long since that night and Kendra had mostly avoided the conversation of it entirely. For no reason other than she didn't want to put her friend through the pain of reliving a single moment of that night.
Kendra was not scared of Xavia. She was not horrified of the things she did. The bastard deserved it, though she wasn't sure she would have had the stomach to do it herself had it been her. Kendra was about to add further when Xavia said that the guy she dated was Artair.
Kendra's eyes went wide. Her mouth fell open and she just stared at her friend slack jawed. Artair was the one who had convinced her to talk to someone about the shooting. Artair had been the one that she had beared her soul to when she admitted that she couldn't face the trauma alone. Artair was a good guy. "Artair?!?" Kendra blurted.
She didn't mean for it to come out as if she was surprised because he wasn't a good looking guy, but it may have seemed that way at first. Kendra continued to stare. Her mind couldn't even put words into sentences let alone coherent thoughts. "He was wit me when I got shot. He saved ma life." Kendra said quietly. A smile formed on her face after a few moments of staring at the floor. The thought of Xavia and Artair was kind of awesome. Artair was a friend, a bit of a hot head and more like a father figure to Kendra in a weird way though he couldn't have been much older than her, but still a friend. And Xavia.. Well Xavia was Kendra's hero as well. The thought of them together as a couple made Kendra smile ear to ear. "Are you gone see him again?!?!?!?" She aside eagerly.

Kendra bit her lip a little. She hadn't told Xavia about being shot. She had a feeling that she might freak. She had gotten a verbal lashing form just about everyone who knew, but surely she had heard by now. It wasn't exactly easy to keep a secret like that around the mansion. Kids talk. Kendra hadn't gotten lectured by Xavia for being foolish or reckless. Kendra might think that maybe her friend Xavia was just a different beast entirely. She saw a side of Xavia that night they went to the club. A violent, primal side. She also had a lot on her plate at the moment.
Kendra went back and forth in her head weather or not to tell her about it. She had promised Artair that she would talk to someone about it. He thought it was important for Kendra to with someone to talk to. Kendra didn't like hiding things from her friend, but stress wasn't good for a baby. Her shoulders slumped and she let go of her secret. She looked thoughtfully at Xavia. "I got shot. Remember when I took that week off from class and basically disappeared? I was wollowin in self pity. It took a friend to get me to actually pick ma'self up."
Kendra felt better telling her, but she didn't have the courage to look her in the eye. It was silly, but somehow she felt like she let Xavia down. She didn't have it in her yet to be an X-Man. Who knew if she ever would. Kendra was a clumsy southern bell with a pension for having bad ideas. She tried to force a smile. "Had'a cool scar for awhile." She blurted out, trying to spin it to an optimistic light. That was some pretty weak effort. Kendra was really doing better. Artair had done a lot to drag her kicking and screaming out of a negative headspace.
"But I'm back now, I'm good honest." Kendra said. She knew Xavia might have questions. She wasn't sure though if she could provide the answers. In an attempt to change the subject Kendra smiled brightly and punched Xavia lightly in the shoulder. "So tell me all bout this date! Any body I know?" Kendra's nosey personality in full force as a now genuine smile ran over her delicate features.

Kendra jotted a few more things down. She seemed to be busy as a bee writing away in her little notepad. The handwriting was sloppy and doodled in the margins were odd drawings here and there. There was a drawing of a horse galloping through a meadow and a scribble of a cat sliding down a rainbow. Kendra was so, the distractible type.
Kendra knew the questions would get harder, more personal. If she wanted to write a good article though she couldn't shy away from painful questions. It was the questions that hurt the most that had the most meaning. They were the questions that painted the best picture of who you were as a person. Kendra didn't want to offend Derek. She liked Derek. She also knew that she had to ask him a few things that he may not want to talk about.
Setting her pencil down for a second Kendra grabbed a few mugs from her desk drawer. Kendra filled them both with coffee and handed one to Derek. There was a mini fridge beside her desk she kept creamer in there. Pulling it out she sweetened her coffee so it wasn't bitter against her sweet pallet. "Have you ever been discriminated gainst cus'o your mutation?" She asked handing Derek the coffee.
Kendra's face pulled slightly into a frown. She didn't want to wade through his painful memories. She didn't want to dig up old wounds and make them fresh again. She could remember more than a few instances of mutant hatred of her own. Growing up in the south where god was everywhere and they hated that evolution was even taught in school despite it clearly being real.... After all mutants were real, that was evolution. God fearing simpletons lashed out against things that didn't fit neatly into their little bubbles.
Kendra took the warm cup in her hands and blew on it lightly to cool it. She twitched her nose like a rabbit. It was a nervous habit she couldn't control when she was anxious "What made you wanta come to the mansion and seek out other mutants? Was it hard for your family to accept your mutation? To accept the fact that you were gay?" Kendra knew a little about that too. She had a healthy attraction to both men and women, though she had never shared that with her father. She didn't need to give him more reason to despise her. Kendra knew that it was one more controversy that they had to overcome... Coming to terms with a sense of identity. Being a mutant, being gay. Just being different in general.

Kendra brightened up a bit at the mention of Xaiva dating. Too soon after what happened in the club? Perhaps, but people deal with grief in different ways. Xaiva really seemed to be at peace with what happened. Kendra had taken her out for revenge and it got way more violent than she had intended. Kendra had just wanted to scare the guy. Xavia had certainly done that.
Kendra quietly wondered who she had went on a date with. She didn't think for a second that it could have been Artair. Kendra knew him as well, but she hadn't stopped to consider that Xavia might know him. He was a frequenter at the mansion it seemed. He was around enough to at least know a few people around her. Kendra wasn't really sure how often he came by, but she did have a gunshot as a reminder from the last 'hang out'.
Kendra and Artair had tried to take down a drug den together. It was mostly successful until Kendra tried to give a criminal the benefit of the doubt and trust him. He returned the favor by shooting her in the shoulder. For a few days after Kendra had refused DocProfessor's healing. She wanted to wallow in her mistake. She wanted a reminder of her foolishness, but after talking to Artair and agreeing to get help she saw the Doc and he healed her up.
Kendra couldn't even tell that she had been shot anymore, even the scar was gone. Kendra had been lucky it hadn't been worse. It was another reason she had been training. She was careless out there. It was going to get her killed if she kept it up. "Well we obviously can't train'in your condition." Kendra said matter of factly. She didn't mind that they weren't training, she was just glad that her friend was ok.
"Any hopes for the sex? You wanna boy right?" Kendra asked rather excitedly. Kendra loved kids. She honestly wanted one of her own one day. Her mind briefly thought of her ex girlfriend Libby. One of the worst fights they had was over the conversation of children. Kendra bit her lower lip a bit. She hoped she wasn't being to pushy, but the thought of a child; especially one that Xaiva seemed hopeful about was exciting. Kendra had so many questions but she would let Xaiva answer them at her own pace.

Kendra followed Xavia out of the bathroom. She was mostly going in to splash some cold water on tired eyes. The shock of finding out that her friend was pregnant as it turned out, was suffient enough surprise to keep her good and awake for the moment. No cold water required.
Kendra walked with Xavia as they talked. They didn't seem to really have a destination in mind. They seemed to be just walking around the mansion and that was ok. It was nice to get some time to talk to Xavia.
They had classes together, but mostly they had seemed a little distant like they shared a class but after class they went their separate ways. Kendra was trying to be respectful and give her hers space. Kendra didn't see Xavia as the kind of person who wanted people pushing their way into her problems. Kendra figured when she was ready to talk about what happened she would be there for her, and she was there for her whenever she was ready.
Kendra tried her best to answer the question. What had she been up to? Kendra had became quite involved with a girl in the mansion and a quick romance had blossomed, but due to Kendra's reckless devil may care attitude things were stressful. Her girlfriend wasn't speaking to her much at the moment and Kendra was afraid they could be headed for a break up.
Kendra didn't bring it up. It was Kendra's desire to be a vigilante that had started the problems in her relationship. Her reckless clumsy nature had been a contributing factor too. Kendra looked at Xaiva thoughtfully. "Training mostly. Workin on my fighting technique and masterin my abilities." Kendra said finally.
It wasn't exactly a lie. She had stepped into the danger room with both Juliette and Becca Grey. She had been training, she just didn't say why she was training. She was training so that when she found herself in dangerous situations, like when she vigilanted, or like that situation at the club.... She wouldn't find herself helpless ever again.

Kendra thought about this for a moment. She didn't know much of her own family. She had never met anyone in her family besides her dad. She wasn't sure if anyone in her family had a mutation besides her. Perhaps there was. Perhaps there was some more personal reason her father hated mutants as much as he did. She didn't know.
Kendra reached a hand out and grabbed the desk. Pulling the rolly chair closer to the desk she picked up a pen and began to jot down some notes about Derek. Her bright brown eyes flicked over to him and she smiled a bit. "So how old were you when your power activated and have you ever used it to help anyone? If so could you give an example?" Kendra asked. Her questions were getting broader, requiring more explaination now. She was going to write an article about who Derek was as a person and why how his gift has helped the world, no matter how small his contributions were she knew he was the type of person to have made some impact.

Kendra closed her eyes and thought about the first place she could. Quickly her astral body exploded into an invisible mist and she reappeared next to a tree. Her hand felt the rough bark and she looked down and saw her sleeping body in the tall grass just beside her. Kendra looked back up and saw that she had teleported a good distance. A safe distance. Juliette seemed to be handling things now. She was glowing. She seemed to be charging up for.... Whammo! A shot right between the eyes.
Kendra watched for moment in stunned fascination. She couldn't imagine having that range and control over her own abilities. Kendra felt as if she was bumbling through this mission and Juliette was so poised, so confident. Kendra would have never guessed that she was the newest member to the X-Team. She didn't act like the girl with the least experience. Juliette was a rock star and Kendra had to remind herself that now wasn't the time to get awestruck.
Kendra would have kept standing there watching if it hadn't been for her body in the grass. Her sleeping body rolled over. Her slender arm flopped over in the roll and the back of her hand hit a rock. A jab of pain shot through her astral right hand. Kendra looked down at her hand a moment and her eyes went wide. It was a simulation, but pain was very much a factor. She had been standing here gawking like and idiot while Juliette battled the beastie. One mistake could cost her.
Kendra looked around for a weapon. Anything that wasn't a police baton. She couldn't very well run up to it and whack it on the head and yell "BAD KITTY!" That would be suicidal. Kendra was looking for something sharp. She was looking for something deadly. Her daydreamy mind hadn't considered that she had one dart left in her pocket for her tranq gun. She hadn't considered that until Juliette suggested it rather urgently. "Right!" Kendra said in a fluster.
Kendra started to dig frantically in her pocket until she emerged with the case that held her tranq darts. She grabbed the last one and loaded it into the gun. She had to make this one count. She couldn't blunder again and miss or it could mean something very bad for Juliette. Kendra raised the tranq gun and steadied her aim. The tiger was fast! It moved like a blur through the tall grass and Kendra could barely see it from here.
She looked around and spotted a vantage point. High up in one of the trees Kendra could get a better shot. She closed her eyes and imaged a branch on the tree. She teleported herself up on a branch that wasn't to high, but high enough that she was relatively safe. She sitting in the tree behind Juliette now. The tiger had stopped running and now it was slowly stalking her. Each footfall was a menacing prelude to what came next. Unimaginable pain. Kendra closed one eye. Unintentionally her tongue hung out of the corner of her mouth as she lined up a shot. "Ok Tigger....Naptime." She said as she pulled the trigger.
Kendra fired the dart at the tiger. Just at that moment there was a creaking sound. Kendra looked at the tree and saw that her weight was causing the branch to snap. She didn't have time to teleport away as the branch submitted under the bell's weight and she went plummeting to the hard ground below. She wasn't to high up to get seriously hurt, but just enough to know she was in a fall. Kendra hit a few branches on the way down and landed hard on the earth.
The wind was driven out of her lungs on impact. "Oafff!" She bellowed as her breath sent dirt skittering everywhere. Bits of brown earth clung to her wet lips. Her hair hung wild in her face like angry fire. For a moment Kendra couldn't do anything but roll on the ground and hold her ribs. Jesh that hurt! She thought. It was the growl from the tiger that got her mind back in the game. Kendra looked up only hoping that this time her aim was better than the last.

Kendra's hand fell to it's side as Xavia leaned up. She watched her carefully to make sure she was good on her feet. Xavia however, assured her that she was fine. The concern didn't leave her eyes though as Kendra continued to watch her. When she asked if she was alright Kendra shrugged nonchalantly. She was used to feeling run down and ragged. Her body had grown used to it. Kendra made an extra effort to smile to not seem as beat down as she felt.
"I'm ok hun, just haven't slept much." It was sort of the truth. Then Xavia dropped the bombshell on her that she was pregnant. Kendra's eyes drifted down to the belly in question. Without realizing it her mouth started to hang ajar slightly. A flash sprang forth in her mind. Terrible images of that night in the club. What the hell were they doing in a club? Kendra wasn't the clubbing type. Still she remembered all the terrible things that happened that night, but she didn't have the courage to ask the question lingering on her mind. If the baby was from that night.
Kendra hugged Xavia back and held her at arm's length for a moment before pulling her back in for another hug. She couldn't help but laugh a little when she said the smells were getting to her. Kendra didn't want to be rude, but that smell was getting to her too. She just hadn't said anything. Those strong oders still present in her delicate nasal passages. "You need to take some time off? I could run the class for you until you get right." Kendra wasn't sure she was up for it, but she had to ask.
Kendra took a paper towel from the dispenser and wiped up the little bit of throw up that was still on the corner of Xavia's mouth and threw it in the trash. Turning back to her friend Kendra's eyes washed over her with a soft loving look. She was a strong woman, after everything that had happened and everything she must be feeling she was here.... Teaching. It was amazing to her. She didn't know if she had that kind of inner strength but she admired Xavia for it all the same.

Kendra didn't respond when he said it felt like she died. She didn't feel that way. She felt like she was inside her own personal hell though. For so many nights since she started dream walking she was just terribly lonely. She was shy and awkward when awake, not the best at making friends. When she slept she was invisible, who wants to chat up a ghost. She would spend her nights wandering the city just another lonely shadow quietly creeping down the street.
Kendra would sometimes break into peoples houses and root through their stuff. She never stole anything, she mostly was finding something to slay her curiosity and boredom. Kendra smiled lightly when he told her about how he discovered his power. Just in the nick of time it sounded like.
Kendra walked through the mansion door that he opened for her and tucked a few loose strands of red hair behind a freckled ear. Moving silently through the halls Kendra did her best to make small talk. She asked about the weather or if he had a special someone. She wasn't expecting answers, she was just trying to void the silence.
Heading up the stairs they made it to her room finally. Kendra unlocked the door and showed him in. The room was plain and didn't have many personal affects save for the computer on the desk next to her camera. Kendra directed him to sit on the bed and she sat at the desk and opened the laptop. With a warm smile she leaned over and pressed start on the coffee maker. It was the only other thing in her room besides a phone by the bed and an alarm clock. Kendra swiveled the chair around to Derek as the brew started. Her painful memories behind her where they belonged. "So start at the beginning do you have any other mutants in your family?" The interview portion of the evening had begun.

Kendra yawned as she entered the bathroom. Someone who's mutation that was based on sleep shouldn't have job that often made her want to fall asleep. Just seemed counter productive. Kendra was never one for schooling or books. She graduated on time, but it was mostly so she could move on with her life and get out of Georgia as quickly as possible. Biology was always her worst subject. So when she was offered the job of teaching assistant to a biology teacher she was more than a little skeptical.
The job as it turned out wasn't so bad. Xavia made it fun at least. Her classes were always interesting in one way or another. No matter how interesting however, the alluring pull of sleep was never far behind that bell that rang to signify the end of class. Kendra shook off the last bits of sleep as she moved into the bathroom to splash some cold water on her face. After that she would.... Kendra's thoughts were interrupted mid thought. What was that sound? She wondered. It didn't take her long to realize that it was someone tossing their cookies in a bathroom stall.
Was it some student who got their hands on some alcohol? Was it ...Nope! Kendra didn't know about Xavia's pregnancy. So when she saw that it was her that emerged from the stall she was a little concerned. Kendra watched her move to the sink and grab some paper towels. "Hey hun! You ok? That sounded pretty bad. You sick?" Kendra's sweet concern wrapped lightly in sultry southern drawl. Kendra moved over and placed a hand on her back and rubbed her shoulders lightly, sympathetically.
Kendra smiled a bit trying to cheer her up. Her brown eyes moved to the two's reflections in the bathroom mirrors. Xavia's make up was running. Kendra had heavy dark bags under her eyes. She looked like she hadn't slept in weeks, though she always kind of looked like that. To put it simply they both looked like a hot mess. Kendra turned to face Xavia. Her eyes danced over the features of the beautiful woman. Kendra's lips were slightly parted. More concern lingered on the tip of her tongue but she said nothing. She simply waited for Xavia to say something as she worried for her friend.

As they walked along in silence Kendra allowed her mind to wander a bit. Her mind had a tendency to drift. Her codename was Daydream. It was more fittin than just being an astral projecting, teleporting, spirit walker. She really did have a problem with daydreams and blackouts.
Kendra had noticed recently that she was loosing chunks of time. Small bits mostly, but still noticeable. She would drift away into some random thought and realize that 10 minutes had gone by unaccounted for. Sometimes longer. She had drifted off for a few hours a couple of times and snapped out of it somewhere else entirely.
Kendra wasn't sure what happened to her mind that made her so flighty. Her brain never got a chance to shut down. It never got a chance to reboot. When she slept her brain automatically started to dream walk. That always online existence of her physiology makes it hard for her brain to get a rest. It's constantly churning. A few things happened to Kendra when her power is active and she's in her astral form.
For one Kendra's cognitive ability is severally affected. She didn't make the best choices, not because she is careless or stupid, but because her frazzled mind didn't allow it. She sometimes had trouble focusing or even thinking clearly. Like she lived in a fog. Kendra's personality was also wildly different sometimes. Depending on how tired she was you would get different versions of the same redheaded Georgia bell. If Kendra was completely mentally exhausted her impulse control center of her brain went a little haywire. She became more daring. She took bigger risks in this state. She was more of a smart ass and she lived for mischief.
When Kendra dream walked completely exhausted she is was on a mission to make as much trouble as possible. It wasn't a separate personality or anything as crazy as all that. She just had severally disabled inhibitions and her brain basically says screw it. Screw the consequences do whatever you want. Kendra refered to herself in this state as 'Dream' Just, simply... Dream. Dream was all about trouble and fun. It's still the same sweet Kendra, only she is looking to make some bad ideas very real.
When Kendra felt rested and she is sleeping peacefully in her bed, or wherever everything is peaches and gravy. Kendra refered to herself in this state as 'Day'. It's all very confusing, even to her but she noticed the changes in her behavior. It's a new thing that she hasn't quite gotten a handle on yet.
That is why Kendra so enjoyed her coffee. As much coffee as she could get her hands on. She always wanted to be perky and chipper. She hated feeling tired. Kendra hadn't discovered yet that her body had an actual way of sleeping. She actually had the potential to get a good night's rest and let her mind reboot like a normal person.
As they walked along, this is what Kendra was thinking about. Sleep. Coffee. She was thinking about the purely exhausted state she was in right now. She was chipper and bright, but she was good at pretending these days. She was actually very tired. That's why she fell asleep in the greenhouse. She couldn't keep her eyes open a second longer. Now all she could think about was getting some coffee, but she had this interview to do.
Kendra was off in her own head thinking about the sweet rich aroma of a fresh brew when Derek surprised her with a startling question. It wasn't a happy time for her. When she first discovered her powers it was actually quite frightening. "Oh...." Kendra said. The tiny surprised sound escaped her lips and hung on the air. Kendra wasn't exactly sure what to say at first.
When Kendra first discovered her powers she was just a girl. She was about 11 years old. She often would hide and her room and try to stay out of her father's way when he was drunk and on a warpath. Honestly that was most nights. Kendra would often cry herself to sleep clutching at her stuffed bunny rabbit Mr. Jingles. Mr. Jingles was just a stupid childish comfort for a girl who had no other comforts. She was to old for stuff animals, but she felt oddly safe with him in her arms. It was the only way she could fall asleep honestly.
One night, on a particularly bad night she was in her room. She could hear her father screaming and slamming things in the other room. Kendra curled up at the foot of her bed with her bunny and closed her eyes. She thought about this night as they walked through the woods towards the mansion. More silence fell on deaf ears as they walked. Kendra thought back to that first night; that first time she dream walked. She remembered kissing her bunny as her eyes felt heavier, and then she was asleep.
For a moment or two Kendra didn't know what was happening. She stood outside of her body staring down at her sleeping form. Kendra notice that her hand was glowing softly. Her whole body seemed enveloped in a soft pink glow. She was see through, she was translucent. Kendra screamed. It was a shrill shriek that she didn't mean to let erupt from her. Even though she was terrified; what terrified her more was that her father had heard it.
The house grew silence. Kendra held her breathe as her frantic mind tried to figure out what was going on. Then she heard the footsteps. Kendra wanted to hide. She rushed over to her body and began to shake herself in a panic. "wake up!" She cried. Her body simply rolled over and a soft moan escaped her sleeping lips. Then the door flung open. Her father was looming in the doorway. She could smell the booze on him from across the room. Kendra's astral form stared at her father in terror. Light freckles blanketed her frightened face.
Standing in the doorway her father had a bottle of Jack Daniels in his hand. He threw it back and took several long gulps before staring hatefully at his seemingly sleeping daughter. Kendra wasn't sure if she was about to be woken up violently. He liked to use her as a punching bag when he tied one on.
To her surprise he smirked and closed the door and stumbled away. Kendra wasn't sure what to do. She slumped against the wall and slid down it. Kendra was crying as she huddled her knees against her tiny chest. She spent the rest of the night staring at herself sleep and trying to figure out why it was happening. Kendra never slept with Mr. Jingles again.
Snapping out of her vivid daydream. Kendra came back from her horrible rememberance with sorrow slow dancing around the edges of her eyes. Her brown eyes were dripping with inevitable tears. Her voice was frail and haunted. Kendra stared at the ground in front of her as she walked quietly beside Derek.
It was not a happy memory. Kendra's voice sounded like a stranger's voice, even to her when she said "It was awful. I never been so scared in my life." She wasn't sure if he could relate to the shock of suddenly discovering you were a freak. She wasn't sure how long he had his gifts, but for her it was a curse. Her powers were a curse for her for a long time. Kendra was just now starting to come to terms with her mutation.
