The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was late afternoon. The sun was hanging low in the sky. A soft breeze carried a liter of leaves briskly down the street. People were walking, laughing going about their daily lives. It made Kendra feel guilty. Guilty for not having a life of her own. She had her camera and that was enough for her most days. Still, the twinge in her heart, hurt more than usual seeing people with healthy functioning social lives. She raised the lens to her eye and shuttered a few pictures of a man walking his dog. She liked capturing normal. It was a sad hobby, but it still qualified as a hobby. When she uploaded the pictures to her computer she would sometimes make up stories for these people. Imagine who they were, what they were like. Kendra worked for a magazine that published articles about mutants. Her pictures were always very telling. Sometimes a single picture could encapsulate everything you needed to know about a particular mutant. What their powers were. Who they were as people. The magazine always filtered them in a slightly more sinister light. Readers ate that up. It was almost as poisonous as celebrity gossip magazines, but people were fearful idiots by nature. They felt safer knowing what kind of mutants were out there. It didn't really matter that Kendra always tried to bring out the best in her subjects.
There were no mutants here. Not that she knew of at any rate. Kendra worked as a freelance photographer and her job could be tough. She felt guilty about her trade as well. She knew the magazine was going go spin whatever she submitted in some article perhaps titled "Are the streets safe with this guy walking the streets?" Or some equally click baity title. Kendra was a mutant. Not that her vicious little gossip rag would ever find that out. Her powers were for the most part harmless. She got a little out of hand sometimes, but she wasn't a violent person. She didn't consider herself an evil one either. Maybe some small part of her hoped to do some good by presenting photos that cast a positive light on things. She hated that her subject matter was taken out of context, but the money was good and a girl's' got to eat.
Sitting down on a park bench she brushed the hair away from her face. Gracefully she tucked her hair behind her ear and looked down at the pictures she had taken today. Guy walking his dog, Old couple holding hands. She scrolled photo after photo. A slight smile lit her face; breaking the tension that threatened to tear her apart. Kendra set a police scanner down beside her and clicked it on. Maybe she would hear something about a mutant causing a disturbance nearby. Public menace paid big. Also, she figured, if she could shed light on the bad ones maybe she could make people feel safer. Help get the bad mutants off the streets. As she sat there she allowed her mind to drift back to the people she had met. Her heart fluttered a little seeing Rebecca Grey's face in her mind's eye. The smile widened at that, dimples touching the corners of her face. She hadn't been at the mansion long, but her time there was fondly remembered. She remembered..... Wait. Kendra scrolled back a few photos and saw a shady looking man standing around with his hands in his pockets. She had accidentally snapped three photos of him. The first photo showed him looking left, The second looking right. The third showed him reaching for something from the trunk of his car. She didn't know why but her heart began to race as she stood up and looked around for him.
Her gaze focused on the direction of the man with his dog, because the shady man was standing behind him in the photos. That's when Kendra was thrown backwards through the air. The distant sound of screaming faintly reached her ears as she struck a tree. Something hard and jutting crumpled her spin. Kendra cried out as she slumped down the side of the tree before collapsing in a heap. She didn't even realize that she had snapped another photo as she was sailing through the air. The photo showed the shady man, blurry surrounded by a green glow. Kendra blinked a few times. She was in tremendous pain and still she found herself reaching for her camera. The lens was cracked and it was pointing in the direction she was thrown from.... She felt herself fading from reality. The conscious world slowly cartwheeling through her fingers. More screams and suddenly a shadow falling over her. Kendra tried to turn her head to see who it was but her neck was still. She laid there whimpering weakly Her back felt hot and wet.

Kendra noticed the startled reaction, but for the moment she didn't say anything. She kept that worry to herself. She didn't want to drape herself all over Xavia and be a worry wort. God knows she could be when she wanted to be. Kendra had nothing but time on her hands. Being constantly conscious and awake left you with a lot of time to consider every possible outcome of any choice you made throughout the day. It was a conscious effort sometimes not to just sit in her head and think about things. Kendra hated that Xavia couldn't read the expression on her face. Her face was twisted into a look for concern. It was enough to say 'hey i'm here for you if you want to talk' without being that much of a bother.
Kendra followed her outside into the backyard. She was actually kind of excited about this. Xavia's mutation was still a bit of a mystery. She knew it was plant based, and that she could construct vines from her hands, but was that all? Was there more? Kendra was excited to find out. She moved out into the soft grass.. Kendra started by teleporting around the yard a few times to get a feel for the space she would have to move around in. Each time she teleported she exploded in a red and white mist. The fire of her hair blending with the pale hue of her porcelain skin to make an invisible cocktail of red and white blur. When she reappeared she just appeared where ever she was thinking about appearing. Kendra could teleport anywhere within the radius of a mile. "Alright, how bout'n you start us off. Show me what'chu can do there honey." Kendra called out gleefully. She was really excited for this demonstration. She didn't know if Xavia knew about her teleport ability, before now but surely she saw her moving around the yard disappearing from one spot and reappearing somewhere else. Each time she disappeared her black boots and pink t-shirt exploding into a mist of pink and black that Xavia could see hang in the air like a dust cloud until she reappeared somewhere else in the yard.

Kendra continued to follow Jack. The truth was. The prawn made her feel a little better. It was nice to know that she wasn't the only one that could be so easily rattled to her very core. She felt bad for freaking her out, but at the same time the slightest hint of a smile was touching her lips. She felt like less of a train wreck at least. Kendra Teleported ahead of Jack. She exploded into an invisible fine mist of pale colored skin, and fire red embers of her vibrant hair. The two colors blended into an invisible smoke that might have been seen if she had been standing in front of a mirror. When she reappared, she was just .... There. Standing several feet ahead of Jack in the direction she was walking. "So! What'cha doing out here?" She asked happily, in an almost chipper tone. It wasn't an act. Kendra was easily distracted. Her mind was in a constant flux of dreaming and awake. Even when she was dreaming her brain was operating at full capacity. She never quite got to shut down and reboot her mind. Most people sleep to give their brains time to rest, and not run itself into the ground. Kendra slept because her body just needed it, though it did very little for her brain itself.
Kendra felt as if she was awake all the time. So her mind was frayed. Her cognitive ability was always unreliable. She could easily get distracted and follow one train of thought for a moment before jumping to the next and forgetting about the first entirely. For the moment, she was more interested in Jack's story. She had forgotten about her troubles with the city and the hold it had over her. She had forgotten about being shot and the trauma that stemmed from it. "Can I help?!?" Kendra asked with the excitement of a kid who was just trying to be included. Kendra bat her big brown eyes innocently. It was moot, those dashing brown eyes were invisible like the rest of her, but she engaged puppy dog eyes all the same.
Kendra could use a distraction, tonight of all nights. It would help her find a semblance of balance and maybe even a new friend. The circumstance was all very strange. Meeting someone outside on the front lawn at 2 in the morning, but the best adventures always had the strangest beginnings. When Jack asked her to come visit when she was awake so she could see her in person Kendra agreed. "Sure thing." She said happily. She really wasn't as foolish as she seemed. Her mood like her state of rest was in constant flux. Her attitude depended on her state of rest. The impulse control center of her brain tended to shut down when she was rather exhausted and she became a bit of a trouble maker. Other times she was spritely and innocent, or she could sink into a terrible depression. The feeling of never sleeping felt like you were slowly loosing your mind. It felt like your life was fistfuls of sand and you could feel the grains quietly slipping between your fingertips. Minutes bled into hours, hours beld into days and weeks. You never could keep hold of a single moment, let alone a feeling of sanity. Kendra's mind was a complex ocean of elaborate design, but she wore a smile through the worst of it and tried her best to hang on to what little bit of normalcy she had. Right now... She just wanted to learn about the strange prawn wandering the grounds.

Kendra stood there listening to the girl rattle off plans like they were going out of style. She presented her with so many choices that for a moment Kendra thought her head was going to implode. She smiled though. She kept having to remind herself that people couldn't tell how she was feeling by her facial expressions. Invisibility was something you never seemed to quite get used to no matter how long you've had it. "Easy girl, don't blow a circuit." She said looking around. Kendra was used to more danger in the danger room. Though, she had to be honest; she wasn't entirely sure what the guards would do if they got caught.
"How bout we follow them see what all the fuss is bout?" Kendra said pointing to the guards hurrying down the corridor. She hadn't programed the simulation. It was possible this diamond was protected by an army of mutant guards. That would be something wouldn't it? Not just trying to deal with one power but several mutant powers all trying to take you out? That was enough to make your head spin in and of itself. Kendra moved quickly down the corridor. Allegra could follow her by the floating hat and boots. Though she decided to take the hat off and toss it onto a little table by the front door. Now she could only be seen by a pair off dirty scuffed boots that she wore on her feet. After all, if they got caught Kendra was invisible she could hide. Allegra would be the one with her neck in a noose standing on a stick of butter.
Kendra edged her way down the hall careful not to grab any unwanted attention. For the most part the guards seemed pretty distracted by whatever was going on. They weren't really paying attention to a pair of ghostly boots moving swiftly across the floor. "If we get into trouble, just flirt your way out.... You're real cute and these guys look pretty stupid... I'm sure you can manage." Kendra said in a low voice.
As they found their way into the next room Kendra was greeted with the site of what appeared to be papparazi at the back gate. She peered through the glass window that led to the backyard. Her body slightly visible in the glass reflection. Kendra looked past her reflection to see the owner of the mansion arriving home. It seems as though he thought slipping in the back way would be less conspicuous. Apparently this simulated mansion owner was famous and the guards were trying to ensure that he got in with as little hassle as possible. "Looks like there's our distraction. Let's search upstairs." What they didn't know was that this mansion didn't just house a rare diamond. It was also a stolen diamond and the person who stole it had just gotten home. He was dangerous mutant with the power to change your perception of reality. He could change layouts of buildings with his mind. It was an illusion, but he had the power to created endless hallways and rooms that did not exist. He had the ability to bring the walls closer and closer together until you were thought you'd be crushed. He would laugh at your terror. He went by the name Mirage. He had the power to change what was real.
Kendra didn't see anything particularly special about the man as he made his way to the house. He was a ordinary looking guy. Kind of handsome, but nothing worth screaming your head off about. With little more than a shrug she turned back to Allegra. "Ok so we should start heading upstairs. Bet that's where it is... And I know ain't the time to get all sentimental, but wanted to tell ya you're doing pretty good for your first time in the....." The lights went out. Kendra looked around them to see that the whole mansion was cast into darkness. When the lights came back on they were standing in a large empty room. Bright white walls all around them... There was no windows, no doors and no exits...."Uhh...Allegra? Did'chu give me some sorta power I wasn't aware of?" Kendra asked confused. Her voice sounded far off and distant as she marveled at the sudden change.
(Sorry it took me a few days ^.^)

After dinner was over Kendra found herself settling in. Her body was still upstairs sleeping in the tub and she supposed she'd have to move it. She headed upstairs and moved into the bathroom. First thing she did was drain the water. She didn't want her body sitting in the now cold water just chilling there. That's a good way to find yourself with a cold or worse. Kendra found some clothes in the next room and put them over herself. First she lightly pulled the shirt down over her sleeping head and then she managed to drag her body to the bed where she slipped on a pair of shorts. The clothes appeared on her astral body as well after she put them on her sleeping body. Kendra then simply peeled off the new layers and tossed them in the floor. Though, the clothes remained on her sleeping body. She paused a moment to realize how bizarre that was. She just shook her head lightly and covered herself up.
Moving back into the hall she found Xavia again. It was something that had been on her mind for awhile, but she never brought it up. Kendra didn't know about Xavia's stalker. She thought she had helped her handle that problem once and for all. As far as Kendra knew the matter was settled. Still, she knew that Xavia was a tough gal, but she didn't really know how far her plant based powers went. She could make vines from her hands and that's all she knew about her powers. She had really been interested in seeing more of her powers in action. Kendra even had a few tricks up her sleeve to show Xavia. Her teleporting wasn't really something Xavia was aware of. She had done it at the nightclub, but Xavia was drugged. Kendra wasn't even sure if she remembered much from that night. Her memory of it was sort of hazy herself.
"Hey! This is gone sound crazy and random, but you thank you could show me your mutation? Like what'cha can do. I can't believe we've never showed off for each other before, but knowing that your whole family is gifted just got me thankin... I wanna see what'cha got." Kendra said in that sweet southern voice. She would be thrilled to step out into some place safe to practice and just see what Xavia could really do.
Purple text = Dialouge White text = Awake Light pink text = Dream walking *Chat Alias* Melody (Daydream)
Kendra wasn't sure why, but she kept following her. She had been a little freaked out by the appearance at a glance, but she wasn't scared. She had seen lots of mutants with visible mutations since coming here. Before it was something that you didn't really see much. Before meaning back home in Georgia. The south was just as oppressive as it had always been. First it was whites segregating blacks. Then it was god hates the gays. Then when the mutant phenomenon become a matter of public opinion southerners jumped on that hate train too. The south had always been very intolerant, but not Kendra. She wanted to help mutants even before she knew she was one herself.
Kendra was just a caring compassionate person deep down. She cared for people. All people. She was a social justice warrior at her core. Kendra continued to follow and listened to the quiet mumblings of Jack. She wasn't sure if she should speak up again. She was afraid she'd give her a nervous break down. Then before she could stop herself she was announcing herself once again. "Not a ghost. A dream." She stated simply. Like that was a totally logical thing. "Didn't mean to spook ya. I came out to get some fresh air." She lied. Kendra quietly wiped her nose that was still a little runny. She didn't really want to explain that she had collapsed on the lawn from a panic attack. She wasn't sure why, but she didn't want to be seen as weak right now. She supposed it was because she felt weak in the moment and wanted someone to see her as a strong capable woman for once. "I astral project. I'm actually sleeping right now in the mansion. What'chur talking to is just a projection of a dream I'm having." She shrugged despite the fact that it would go unseen. She couldn't really explain it any better than that.
Kendra knew one thing her whole life.... She knew that people were afraid of things they didn't understand. It was easy to judge looking from the outside in, but here at this place, this school she was never judged. Well, she was judged a lot actually for her careless reckless immature ways. However, she was never judged for being a mutant. She was accepted for her gifts here rather than distained for them. Here she wasn't just Kendra Dillenger a quiet country girl who felt tiny amongst the rest of the world. She was Daydream. The astral projecting dream walker mutant. It sounded impressive until you met the girl behind the legend. Not that she was legendary in anyway. Kendra was and always had been her own worst enemy.
Standing here now along the fence she wondered what life would have been like growing up with such a visible mutation. She had always felt a tangible amount of self pity for what she considered her curse, but she never stopped to think about what it would be like for those who couldn't hide behind charming brown eyes and a bashful smile. Kendra looked at Jack now. She allowed her eyes to dance over her face, or at least where she thought her face was. Jack was a prime example of the type of mutants she fought so hard for. Kendra's hands squeezed her camera around her neck just to give her hands something to do.
She stood there in awkward silence a moment. Her voice was soft and sweet; dripping with country drawl. The accent was really hard to mistake. She worked for a mutant rights magazine, and she wrote a blog about mutant discrimination. To many times had she seen mutants like Jack mistreated. It really grinded her gears. She honestly felt a little ashamed that she had such a startled reaction to her. "I'm Kendra. Kendra Dillenger. Folks round here call me Daydream." She offered up as a way of an apology. For the moment she had forgotten her own problems and allowed herself to get wrapped up in the surprise meeting with unexpected mutant.
Kendra pulled out a chair and sat down. She supposed she didn't have to bother putting on clothes, but he was glade he did. She looked over and saw the little girl smiling at her. She smiled back unsure if she could see her or not. Her face was a mixture of amusement and confusion, but he was a sweet little girl. Kendra sat down at the table and looked at all the food in front of her. It was a lot of food considering it was just the four of them. Xavia had mentioned this was a boarding house for mutant. Did that mean there were others here now? Would they be joining them?
Kendra pushed her hair back over her shoulder. Her hair was still wet and stringy from her bath, even in her astral form her hair took on the properties it had when she fell asleep. Kendra quickly threw her hair up in a ponytail as she looked at the massive amounts of food. It looked good at least. she had never had this type of food but he would eat it hungrily and with Gusto. Kendra wasn't a picky eater. In fact, she was quite the little piggy. Often times she found herself dream walking around the mansion at night with nothing to do but eat and watch late night TV. She found that she loooooved to eat.
"Thank you look really good mama." Kendra said. She didn't know Xavia's mother's name so she opted to call her mama. She got a warm feeling from her. Kendra felt silly that he was nervous around the woman at all. Sitting across from her at the table she felt like she was a part of this family. It was kind of strange for her thought. She had never had a family home cooked dinner before. Her family just wasn't like that, what little family she had. Kendra being from the south should have been raised like this. Everyone sharing food across a fully stocked table with home cooked southern offerings. She picked up a bowl of rolls and put one on her plate before offering one to the little girl, who seemed to be reaching for it before she even motioned in her direction. Like she could see that she had looked her way. Finally it was killing her she had to know. "Delilah....Can you see me honey?" She asked outright. The table got quiet for a moment as they waited for an answer.

Kendra noticed Xavia stirring and moved over to the bed. She sat at the edge of the bed and ran a light hand over tired, tense shoulders. Kendra's fingers danced along Xavia's back as she tried to comfort her. She wasn't sure, but.... She thought the girl had just seen her invisible. That wasn't possible right? Kendra looked around the room and didn't see any mirrors. No reflective surfaces, and she was to far away from the window to rightly say that she had seen her in the pane of glass. It just wasn't possible....Was it? Kendra didn't know that Xavia's daughter had gifts. She knew that she loved her daughter, but they hadn't spoken much about her daughter save, for that one time the night they met.
Kendra supposed they hadn't talked much about a good many things. Like how she came to the mansion or why Kendra left Georgia. Their friendship was one of experience and shared memories. They had been through a lot together in the short time that they knew each other. It didn't make their bond any less meaningful, just because there were things they still didn't know about each other. Kendra didn't think she had any other mutants in her family. She would be wrong. There were other mutants. It was the reason her father hated them so fiercely, but she never knew that. Her father would never offer it up either. He would rather she live her whole life thinking she's a freak to punish her than tell her the family secret to ease her guilt just a little. Her father was a bastard.
Kendra sat on the bed trying to rouse her friend from sleep. Her fingers moved over her slightly exposed shoulder. She could feel the warmth of Xavia's skin and the smell of roses. The whole place just smelled amazing, but Xavia did especially. Kendra bit her lip a little and pushed thoughts out of her mind. Crazy thoughts that she shouldn't even be thinking. She was never one to....Oh no that's just crazy. Kendra smiled lightly at Xavia when she finally did wake up. She was wearing just some thrown on clothes over an invisible body. Nothing too formal but she joked "Im all dressed for dinner." She paused a moment before adding. "Your ma's not going to be freaked out that I'm a mutant is she?" Kendra had some experience with families that hated mutants. She couldn't shake her self conscious fears as she sat there staring at the face of someone she was close with. They had a connection. Her eyes seemed like deep pools of so many mysteries, Kendra wanted to REALLY get to know her better over the next couple of days.
Purple text = Dialouge White text = Awake Light pink text = Dream walking *Chat Alias* Melody (Daydream)
Kendra wasn't ready to go back inside. She didn't want to be in the city, but she didn't want to hole herself up in her room either. It was a nice night out. The stars were out and the sky was clear. She knew it was cliché but she took a few pictures of the night sky. It made her feel some better. At least she had managed to get a few pictures out of the ordeal. "Silver stars and velvet skies...." She said quietly to herself. It was something her ex girlfriend used to say. It simply meant that everyone was different and handled things different ways, but at the end of the day... We all stare up at the same sky, and see the same stars. Yeah, she might be struggling right now with her own demons, but others were struggling too. She wasn't a freak for being afraid of the world after something traumatic and that did actually make her feel some better.
Kendra sighed and kicked up bits of grass as she trudged along. She still wasn't ready to head back in. She was content just walking along the fence and trying to collect herself. She reached up with the sleeve her jacket and wiped the tears from her eyes as she moved along the fence. Kendra's other hand glided lightly along the iron bars. Her fingers dancing and moving absentmindedly, as if almost to the beat of a song. She was off in her head... On some thought or another. Kendra had tendency to daydream as her name implied. She could get lost on a thought and sit on it for hours until she realized that she had been walking the whole time. She would snap out of whatever thought she had and it'd be hours later and she had no idea how she had gotten to where she was.
Kendra's mind thought back to a time before the mansion. A time back in Georgia, when she only had a handful of friends and no one really knew her terrible secret. No one knew that she was a mutant. Those days seemed so distant and yet, a small part of her wished she could go back to that. Life was oppressive, but it wasn't complicated. She didn't feel this urge to be heroic. That was the reason she got shot in the first place. She had foolishly tried to play vigilante and take out some criminals in a crack house. With the help of a partner she actually succeeded in shutting the place down. She got a bullet for her troubles, and now she was scared of her own shadow. It didn't really help much that when she finally looked up from her quiet ponderings she saw a giant bug creature looking in her direction. Kendra froze for a second. New York's bug problem was worst than she thought. A frown formed on her face when she realized how rude she was. She had actually let out a startled gasp when she saw the obvious mutant. It had caught her off guard. Kendra was within earshot and she turned red. Thankfully she was invisible. "I'm sorry." She admitted. She wasn't even actually sure if this mutant had heard her startled reaction, but she felt like she had to apologize. Never mind the fact that he wouldn't be able to see her...
Purple text = Dialouge White text = Awake Light pink text = Dream walking *Chat Alias* Melody (Daydream)
Allegra couldn't see it but Kendra was smiling ear to ear. Her plan was so delightfully cheesy that she just had to smile. She didn't laugh though. It wasn't a stupid idea, it was just straight out of a cartoon. It was something she thought she would never say, but she found herself wanting to say 'it's just so crazy it might actually work.'' Kendra followed her as close as she dared. She was still a floating hat and a pair of walking boots without an owner. She waited until Allegra got inside with her flowers and got a good bit up the walk. She knew she hated it, but she simply teleported up behind her when she was a good ways in.
Keeping her voice low and hard to hear she spoke up, just barely above a whisper. "Well, I don't rightly know much more than you honey. I know we're after something sparkly that's about it. We're suppose to be learning to thank on the fly and adapt I'm guessing." Kendra kept mostly to the shadows. She didn't want to cause any alarms. She supposed in a pitch she could ditch the cap and boots and just run around barefoot with her invisible hair flowing like a wild fire. That could work. They made their way up the front steps. Kendra teleported just inside the front door and unlocked it from the inside. She opened the door and allowed Allegra passage.
Still, Allegra's mutation lingered on her mind. Was she going to use it? If so would she give her warning? Was it something she couldn't control like her own power? So many questions, but now wasn't the time. Unfortunately the diamond was only a simulation. They wouldn't actually get to keep if if they managed to get it. Kendra looked around the large mansion. It was much bigger than the mansion they were actually in this is going to take awhile she thought. Kendra reached over and slipped her hand into Allegra's she wasn't rightly sure why she thought that was going to calm her nerves. It didn't much. If anyone got them caught it was going to be her.
"So What's part two'oyour plan? Or are we flyin by the seam of ya pants right now....Er...Ummm dress..." Kendra asked. She could see movement upstairs. The guards seemed to be hovering more so around two areas. One of them had to be where the diamond was. There was a lot of guard activity upstairs and something seemed to be going on in the back of the mansion too. She saw several guards head that way in a little pack. She was willing to put her money on upstairs though. "Thank it might be somewhere up there... Looks like about 20 rooms though, don't rightly wanna go searching each one." Kendra said. She noticed Allegra still had the flowers in her hand. She reached over and plucked them out o her hand and stuck them in a trash can. "Don't thank you'll be need'n em anymore." She said as her eyes darted around all the commotion.

Hearing a little more about her powers was reassuring, sort of. Kendra smiled sheepishly, but it wasn't very convincing. Good thing she was invisible. Kendra stood in the massive empty room. Stealth was something she had been practicing. Step one in learning to be more stealthy was learning how to walk without falling on your face. That was something she was nervous about. That was not something she could promise. If it had been her alone in the danger room she might have gone with the rescue mission, but it wasn't up to her. This was Allegra's first time in the danger room and she wanted her to choose. Kendra couldn't exactly say the danger room was fun. It was a simulation and a very real one at that. The last time she was in the danger room they were in a jungle simulation. They may just be holograms but she could feel the heat of the jungle. Sweat rolled down her head. She wasn't sure if it was in her mind or if Juliette simply turned up the heat on the thermostat before starting, but the danger room would feel very real. You could easily forget that you weren't really there.
“I guess I’ll go with the diamond heist,”
"Diamond heist it is! They are'a gal's best friend ya know." Kendra said trying to lighten the mood. These were preprogrammed simulations. She didn't know all of the parameters that went with them. The enemy AI was advanced. She knew that much. They were able to think and reason almost as well as real people. It was enough to say at least that you were fighting against some dimwitted but dangerous people. Kendra looked up at the wall at the picture of the diamond heist. "Diamond heist simulation, Difficulty Novice." As she spoke the words the room seemed to change. The images on the wall were gone and the walls began to darken. The curved ceiling seemed to fill with clouds and stars. Off to the side was the moon and the curvature of the ceiling became undetectable. It simply seemed as if the sky was above there heads. Kendra looked down and realized that the cold metal floor beneath them looked like soft wet grass. She bent down and ran her fingers over it. It felt like grass. She was always amazed by how real it felt in here.
They were standing across the street from a mansion. A large rod iron gate with a eagle on top of it stood directly across from them. There was a massive brick wall that outlined the entire property and Kendra saw security cameras posted every thirty feet. Outside the gate men walked along the fence. Some dressed as civilians, others dressed like street vendors who were less interested in selling wares and more interested in protecting diamonds. "Looks like we're here." Kendra said. She was still invisible. She was a floating pair of boots and a hat. Not exactly the stealthiest approach you could make. In fact it was quiet attention grabbing. From where they stood they were out of the security camera's range. Kendra was going to make Allegra make the first move and she was going to follow her lead. She wanted to see what the girl could do.

Kendra supposed there was no real harm in it. She couldn't really be seen. She stood there outside of her body and looked down at herself. She reached down and brushed a few strands of red hairs away from her eyes and moved her bodie's head to the side. She moved back into the other room and decided that she should at least put on some clothes so she wouldn't get cold. She reached into her bag and pulled on a tank top and some short shorts. She slipped a pair of boots on her feet and pulled a hat down over her head. She was the invisible woman. She was outlined by the floating visible articles of clothing that she now wore.
Kendra wondered if Xaivia's mother knew she was a mutant. If she didn't seeing an invisible girl might freak her out when she hsowed up for dinner as a floating t-shirt and hat. Kendra quietly slipped out of the room and began to wander the halls a bit. The fabric of her clothes moved and changed the way it would normally fit over her body. It wore, just as if she were really there, only the body beneath the clothes was invisible. Kendra's eyes fell on a door at the end o the hall. This might be her room. SHe thought. She didn't rightly know this place was so big.
Kendra pushed the door open to find Xavia sleeping on the bed. Her daughter was lying with her. Kendra wasn't sure if the girl was asleep. Sometimes children pretended to be asleep when they thought they'd get in trouble for not being asleep, but as far as she could tell she was. Kendra reached down and pulled the covers over Xavia lightly when she found the phone lying there. The screen was lit up and for the longest time Kendra battled with her conscience. She wanted to snoop on what she was texting about. Maybe she had opened up to someone else more about the baby and what was going on than what she had told her. Maybe.... No, Kendra had picked up the phone and thought about it for several minutes, but in the end she put the phone on the nightstand without reading it. Xavaia didn't have to worry about her privacy being invaded, not from Kendra. It was hard to do considering Kendra was very nosey by nature. Kendra set down the phone and sighed. Had she looked, she would have simply seen some harmless flirting with Xavia and Artair, but she didn't look.
Kendra had wanted to ask her if her mom was ok with mutants, but she was asleep. Kendra turned to leave the room. She was being quiet as to not wake the two in the bed. Moving across the floor in her heavy boots she did cause the floorboards to creak as she made her way to the door. Kendra grabbed the doorhandle and was about to open it when she heard a cough from behind her. She turned around to see that the little girl was awake and she was staring right at her....

Secondary mutations? Kendra wasn't sure how she felt about it. it had taken her a long time to come to terms with her mutation. To suddenly have a second one just forced on you.... She watched Allegra carefully. She could see the shame moving over her beautiful features. Kendra reached out a hand and placed it on her shoulder. The unseen hand gently squeezed to let her know that she was alright. Kendra knew what she felt. She used to feel that way about herself. She used to feel like a freak. A monster. She wasn't sure exactly when or why she stopped feeling that way. There was no single catalyst that changed her mind just a life time of adjustment.
Kendra wasn't sure what was going to happen here. She didn't want to program anything dangerous though. Nothing that could cause serious harm. As far as Kendra understood it, the holograms in the danger room were very advanced. A bullet fired from a hologram could cause you real pain. The consequences for messing up here were high and she didn't want to put Allegra in any kind of danger. She didn't have any mutation gifts that could help her out of situations. It wasn't like the time she went through the danger room with grey and found that she could manipulate metal. Grey had the ability to change the world around her in impactful ways. Allegra just caused secondary mutations... "They're not permanent are they? These secondary mutations?" Kendra tried to keep the scared quality out of her shaky voice, but she failed miserably.
If there was one thing she knew, it was that being around other mutants helped her feel like less of a freak herself. Allegra probably just needed time to realize that she wasn't alone. Kendra was nervous about the idea of having a second mutation suddenly thrust upon her, but she was a little curious as well. It was scary and exciting and confusing and weird. "Stealth simulations." Kendra called out. The room seemed to change and react to her voice. The walls turned a shade of dark green and images blurred across the walls. The images slowed down and came to a stop in front of them with a few choices. One showed a picture of a giant mansion at the heart of it was a precious jewel that had to be stolen for whatever reason to beat the simulation. The jewel was locked away in a vault and there were armed guards all around. The second simulation seemed to be mission impossible themed. The image seemed to depict a floor covered in laser tripwires. Like a museum who's security was activated at night. If you trip the laser than the whole place locked down. Less likely that they would be able to pull that off with the powers they had available but not impossible. The third option just showed a guy with a bag on his head tied to a chair. The there were guards standing in front of him in the image displayed on the wall. The three images offered a snapshot of what the mission would be like. Kendra turned to Allegra not sure which one to choose, but maybe Allegra would rather do.
"Well which' suits ya fancy? One of the two heist missions or the rescue mission?" Kendra asked. She looked at Allegra still wondering if she was going to put the whammy on her and give her a second power. She wasn't sure she wanted that, but she also didn't want Allegra to feel like a freak. Kendra smiled lightly and tried to look less scared than she secretly felt. Allegra was a good person, she knew that. She could tell that much just in the short time she had gotten to know her, didn't mean that getting a new power from Allegra wouldn't be scary as all hell.
Kendra made it up to her room. She hurriedly got a few things done quickly. She didn't want Allegra downstairs waiting for her wondering if she'd show up. Kendra closed her bedroom window to keep the draft out. She pulled the covers up over her sleeping body. Kendra took an extra moment or so to stare at her body sleeping in the bed. She seemed so peaceful, so rested. A frown pulled at her face as she thought about how tired she was going to feel tomorrow morning.
Kendra shook her head lightly and grabbed her police baton and tucked it into her pocket. It was collapsible it fit in her pocket well. She was still bare foot, so she slipped on a pair of boots. They looked like combat boots. Kendra left the laces untied, she was decidedly in a hurry. She was visible now, by the floating hat and a pair of black boots that now adorned her feet. The police baton was hidden away inside the invisible pocket, yet somehow that made it invisible too.
Kendra looked at the clock and picked up the pace. Putting a hitch in her giddeyup she moved along much quicker now. She turned on her coffee pot and set an alarm for it to brew a fresh pot in a few hours. She loved her coffee pot. The fact that she woke up to the smell of fresh coffee every morning was simply amazing. She couldn't understate how much that helped shake her from the groggy grip of sleepless sleep.
Kendra didn't teleport this time. Instead she walked out of the room. Taking one final look at her sleeping form she closed the door. Kendra hurried down the hall and down the stairs. She found herself outside the library with time to spare. Looking around the mansion Kendra realized how dull the place was when everyone was asleep. It was a shame that more people weren't night owls around here. You had to figure there'd be at least one or two.
Kendra waited for Allegra to show up. After some time, she was beginning to think the girl flaked on her. It wouldn't be surprising. Kendra had pretty much terrorized the poor thing and her dogs too. Kendra had to work on not being so..... Kendra around people. She always had to remind herself that the teleporting thing wasn't normal for most people. It freaked some people out to not know where you were, especially when you're invisible and can be anywhere at any moment. For Kendra it wasn't even something she really thought about anymore. She teleported as easily as she walked by this point.
Kendra made a conscious effort not to teleport when around Allegra. She would use her own two unreliable feet. When she teleported she was graceful and smooth, walking around on her god given feet she was a clumsy uncoordinated mess. Kendra could trip over air. She was not the most light on her feet. She was accident prone and reckless. Kendra looked up at a clock in the hall. How long has it been she wondered.
In actuality Allegra wasn't running that late, a few minutes by this point. Kendra just had trouble keeping track of time. Her mind couldn't concentrate on things as tedious as time anymore. Kendra, like her name implied allowed her mind to daydream. She started thinking about her first trek through the danger room. That had been quite the adventure....Kendra's daydreams had a tendency to span either minutes or hours. She could get lost on a thought and fall down a rabbit hole and loose huge chunks of time if someone didn't snap her out of it. Luckily Allegra snapped her out of her daydream.
"Hey sorry about that."
Kendra looked up startled. She almost let out a small scream. For once it had been Allegra who startled her. She looked at the clock realizing she had been daydreaming. She couldn't remember how long she had been standing there. The frown was pulling at her lips again. "Don'tchu worry your pretty lil head bout it hun. You ready to go? Heeeey spiffy outfit." She said, trying to sound less freaked out than she felt. Kendra admired the wardrobe and found herself glad that Allegra couldn't see her still dawning her jammies. She hadn't thought to change her clothes.
Kendra reached out a ghostly hand and tucked unseen fiery locks behind her ear. She wasn't sure if Allegra knew where the danger room was but at least she could follow her movements now. After some time they found themselves at the doors to the danger room. It was locked from the inside. "Wait here a second." Kendra said. The door was locked. Kendra teleported on the other side of the door and opened it from the inside. "Welcome to the danger room Ms. Allegra!" Kendra said triumphantly. She was sure they were both going to walk away with a few bumps and bruises, but Docprofessor could heal them up. Kendra, being clumsy and reckless had quickly come to know Doc as her lifeline in this place.
"Well, before we program any kind'o simulations.... Maybe you should fill me in one what exactly you can do with'chur mutation. I don't rightly know and it could help me choose something that's both fun and challenging." Kendra said. She knew that the simulation was voice activated. She just had to call it out when she was ready. Kendra shifted her weight to her back foot and crossed her arms across her chest. She watched Allegra waiting to hear what gifts she hid under the surface.
Allegra was a sweet girl. She really was. Kendra smiled when she said that she was there for her, but she said nothing back. She instead changed the topic. "Well, guessin you best get changed. Can't go into the danger room in your jam jams. Wear something easy to move around in. Something comfortable." Kendra changed the topic because it wasn't an easy subject for her. She struggled with her mutation enough, she didn't want to dump her problems on this poor girl's plate. It was a nice offer, but it was more than she would have bargained for.
Kendra pet the doggies as an apology. "They'll get used to me." She said picking on one of the puppies and snuggling it lightly, before putting it back down. She knew where the danger room was. Kendra could teleport herself into the locked rooms and open it from the inside. She was fairly certain she could whip up something fun for them to do.
She still had no idea what this girl's mutation entailed though. Could she melt things with her mind? What if she could create living creatures out of spare things lying around. What if a pile of couch pillows, tv remotes and other random items melded together to create a misshapen sentient monster that she controlled with her mind?!? Kendra allowed her thoughts to run away with her for a moment while she imagined the possibilities.
Kendra was off in her own thoughts until she realized that Allegra was still sitting there. "Well go'on now get, off ya go. Quick like'a bunny." Kendra was going to clap her hands as she spoke to emphasize the urgency, but she refrained. She didn't want to send the pups into another barking frenzy. "Thank you can leave your pups in the room? Cute as they are, I don't thank a place called the danger room's a good place for them little darlins to be."
Kendra reached over and scratched chocolate behind it's ear as she spoke. Looking back at Allegra she found herself wishing she had something to keep her insight. She remembered it was so difficult for Juliette to keep track of her movements in the danger room. Then she spotted some kids forgotten baseball cap on one of the couches. Obviously left here by some student. Kendra picked it up and looked at the name written in the hat. . "Might make thangs a little easier for you. Don't worry I'll return it to Toby Nelson later." She placed it on her head. Pulling the brim of the hat down so it was right over her eyes. The hat floated where her head should be making the invisible girl just a little bit more visible. "Meet'cha by the library in 15?"
Without warning she exploded into a fine mist of pale and fire hue. The pale creamy color of her skin and the vibrant flame of her hair. Kendra poofed into invisible smoke as she teleported away. She left Allegra to get ready for the adventure they were about to embark on, and the trouble they were going to get into. Kendra teleported up to her room to grab a few last minute things herself before making her way to the meeting place.
