The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Did you know...
That the first Mutant of the Month contest had 14 contestants?
That the most nominees ever was 20 in a single month?
That in MRO's second month of existence, the Mods totally flaked out and forgot to even run a contest?
Check it out: the history of the Mutant of the Month contest!
Is there someone whose posts you've been following with zeal? Someone you can't imagine the site without? Someone who's awesome, IC or Out? Just getting nominated can mean a lot to someone. The Oldies knew what they were doing, back in the days of 5.4 noms a month. Let's make 2012 a great year for spreading the love, folks.

Jorge
*Akshay sliiiiiiiiides in looking utterly cool and awesome*
Despite her/his complete despise of me, I simply cannot let this go without saying, I would like to nominate Mirror for Mutant of the Month. In this past month (and always!), she has been vastly entertaining with posts that make me laugh until I cry. Mirror is an awesome writer and definitely deserves this nom.
I would like this person to not go unnoticed. Everyone who RPed with him can say with certainty that Michael is a great writer. The way he interacts with the world is quite unique, complex and lovable at the same time. And though sometimes he gets a little obsessed with the length of his replies, or the number of words, I think he deserves the honor of being the Mutant of the Month.
There's a girl (well... a real life guy who has a girl character) who gives me butterflies in my tummy each time I read one of her posts. Whether she is fighting for her life in a dramatic battle of the bugs, or simply sharing a tender moment, each and every one of her posts is amazingly well thought out and well written. I am speaking, of course, of Agnes Nicholas (who is played by the amazing Jorge).
I am continually amazed by Jorge's ability to make each of his characters so unique and to be completely dedicated to each one. There never seems to be a lapse where any of them are neglected, no matter how busy he gets in real life or with moderating duties (for which we also deeply appreciate him). Agnes, in particular, has an interesting and well detailed character history (read all her posts!) that truly affects how she interacts with others and her personality is completely unique.
All of Jorge's characters, and especially Agnes are incredibly fun to write with. He has great ideas that make each post come alive, and each post has some new and creative twist. He also knows how to roll with the punches and can deal with any surprises you might throw his way, then throws a few back at you!
I have been meaning to nominate this character for a long time, but seem to miss the deadline by a day each time. *guilt* If you haven't yet read these threads, you should:
It's always great when you find a character that is dynamic and well rounded, and Allison is just that. See how she faces danger head on while in a situation that would make most girls cry for their mommies, and instead she, and Megan make the bad men cry even louder in Wrong Place, Interesting Time!
Still, while she shows she can be a complete BA, she still has her softer, more adorable side, as shown in A push in the right direction! In this thread, Venus decides that he is going to plan a romantic outing for Aura and Allison! Adorable-ness ensues!
Finally, digging back a bit, my first thread with Allison, where she shows off her snarky personality, and refuses to budge for an unreasonably angry Roach, who proceeds to initiate a full on battle royal in her book store! I give you, What's Bugging You?
Given the uniqueness of her character, and the entertaining threads she gives us, I think she's a great candidate for Mutant of the Month! Enjoy the reading!
....And I nominate. Crap, so many people I want to nominate so...having spent the last few hours reading and having epic fun doing so. I nominate Emerald!!! A Rare Occurrence (Akshay) Showing Emerald's softer side! Her epic Solo, go go Emmy!!! Kick their butts!!! Let The Beast Free (solo)
Emerald has been on MRO for a long time and I was quite happy to learn that she had reappeared just a few months before I had!! Welcome back Emmy and lovely posting!!
