The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mike sat with Mercury in the back of the courtroom.
Night courts... the seediest charges could come in, and no one would know. Most of the problems came during the day, but occasionally something 'good' would be pushed back here, at the happy time of day Mike could make it into the city. Like this case.
He glanced at Mercury for a moment, then looked back up at the front of the room. A rape case, of course. Poor-as-dirt woman, sleazy smooth-talking man... honestly, it could go either way. She could be lying, he could be lying, no one knew.
"We have a winner this time," Mike whispered back, his eyes glowing faintly. He nodded toward the woman. "She's going to be telling the truth. What's more, she's understating it. He," Mike nodded toward the man, "Absolutely terrifies her." His eyes narrowed as they listened to the testimony.
For all his good intentions, the initial questioning showed Mike just how much he had to learn. The victim's emotional scars hit him full-force, and he curled over in his chair, clutching his head. Fortunately he managed to keep them from attracting attention, but it WAS a close thing.
It took him a full ten minutes, which was sadly the entire time the victim was on the stand, to get control of himself. He looked a bit irritated with himself, and sat back to watch as the defendant's alibi witness stepped up.
"You heard what she said... in reality it was worse. And it's even worse if you go into his head, and know that she can't prove his alibi witnesses are lying."
They sat and listened, stone-faced, as the two defense witnesses elaborated on the night they'd had at one of their apartments. The fact that the plaintiff didn't get a good look at anything during the entire day of her torture didn't help matters.
Mike sighed slightly. "I don't like the way this is looking."
