The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"We follow him. You blind him, I do the rest, and if things go wrong you blind everyone who comes after us. If justice fails up there," Mike pointed toward the judge, "It won't fail out there."
"He'll get everything he deserves. Let's leave it at that."
The proceedings took longer than was comfortable for the two young mutants, but they waited during the deliberation until, quite expectedly, the defendant was acquitted.
They waited until the defendant had left the courtroom before they stood up. No one even spared them a second glance, thanks to Mike's emotional redirection of their attention. With one last, sad look at the plaintiff, Mike led Frank out after him.
"You ready?" he whispered as they walked into the street.
For a moment, Mike hesitated. He shouldn't have dragged Mercury into this... still, it was too late for that. "Don't worry, you don't have to do anything you don't want to do. Nothing violent." Mike's eyes glowed a bit stronger. "That's my job. Quick, in here."
Mike had planned this out beforehand, and knew which streets and alleys connected in the blocks around the courthouse. THey ducked down one, and proceeded until Mike motioned for a halt. "Now we wait for a few minutes. He'll be here soon."
And truly, he would be. Mike was already planting the subtle directions into his mind, making a shortcut through the alleys seem like quite a good idea.

Mercury's hand began deforming, forming a pair of interpenetrating parabolic dishes with a complex pattern of facets. Sighting in on a nearby streetlight, he tested it by projecting two tiny pinholes of light on the pavement.
The rapist, by now Mike had gleaned his first name, Glenn, from his mind, was walking toward them. As was the trend for the night, he didn't notice the two mutants until he had already passed them. Mike motioned for Mercury to make a reflection to keep him from being able to make out their features.
And with that, Mike let go and surrendered himself to the urges he'd been supressing since the courtroom. Mike faded into the background of his brain, making way for Cassiel, the self-styled avenger, styled after his namesake, the Angel of Tears.
There was a cold edge in his voice as he spoke. "I have a very simple question for you," he said in a quiet, dangerous voice, "Why did you do what you did. Justice might have failed, but your sins aren't forgotten."
Though the man couldn't see his face, Mike's face was a mask of rage, his eyes were glowing with psychic energy. "Had it coming? HAD IT COMING?"
There was a strange edge to Mike's voice... it sounded deeper somewhat, as he continued. "You brutalized a woman who did nothing to you. You beat her, violated her repeatedly, and DENIED it. I ask you, AGAIN, by whatever gods haven't completely abandoned you, WHY DID YOU DO IT."
