The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Character
Personality: Gemma is a woman with a great deal of common sense. She is a problem solver. She also has an overdose of motherly instincts. She is very protective of children and other vulnerable creatures. Especially mutant children. She is determined, strong willed, and very emphatic. Sarcastic, sometimes; she has a good sense of humor. She is a mother figure to boot. Takes care of children around her (and for her, the definition of 'child' ranges from newborn all the way to a few years younger than her). She is generally caring and friendly, but also can be the kind of mother wolf you know would tear anyone apart anyone who threatens the young ones. Hobbies/ Interests: Sports. Watching sports. Reading. Cooking. Dancing. Job or part time job and description: Guidance counselor at Xavier's since 2010. Also doing administrative jobs there, some of the teaching, and general "make sure the kids eat their veggies" type things. Before that, she used to coach various high school sports teams. Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Children getting hurt. Especially her own children. Special talents: Sports. She did all kinds of sports in high school and later in her life, and she is still pretty good at them. Also, all kinds of motherly things, like cooking, sewing, and making teenagers' life miserable.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good. Gemma protects the innocent, fights for mutant rights in her own way. She respects rules, but when rules stop doing their job and protecting those who should be protected, she doesn't mind bending them.
Mutations
Mutation description: Adapted. Strengths: Full null within a 7 foot radius. Weaknesses: Not a mutant.
Fighting style
Explanation: She knows the basics of survival (how to spot trouble and avoid it, and how to keep her head down, and how to get out of a brawl alive). Also knows how to use the most common firearms, and, more importantly, how to unload them. Actually, she learned to unload and disassemble them first, during her early years as a high school teacher in some pretty bad neighborhoods. Used to own a firearm, but she doesn't have it since she got the permanent job at Xavier's. She can kick pretty hard if she needs to, and she has no trouble doing so instead of less effective ways of fighting, like slapping someone. She is not trained in martial arts, but that doesn't keep her from kneeing someone in the stomach if she really needs to. Violence, of course, is not the answer. Pros for fighting style: Might get out of a brawl alive. Can shoot an opponent if she must. Cons for fighting style: Not a trained fighter.
Faction Allegiance Unaffiliated
History Of Your Character: Gemma was born in Baltimore, MA, to a fairly poor family. She showed great talent at sports in school, and went on to be an athlete during high school. She showed promise, but decided not to go on to be a professional; she became a high school coach instead, mostly because she wanted to teach children, and help them. She turned out to be a good teacher who was able to make the kids trust her, and she taught them how to solve their problems on their own. She was in her early twenties, when she met her future husband, Simon, who was a Mathematics teacher in the school where she worked. They got married the next year. They had two children together, Laurent and Valerie (now 30 and 29 years old). The marriage didn't work out; due to Gemma's motherly instincts, the house was always full of children, students of hers and friends of their kids'. She also supported mutant rights, and took in mutant children for longer or shorter periods of time if they were not welcome at home anymore. Simon was not a great fan of mutants. They got a divorce after fifteen years of marriage, and Gemma got custody of both children. She discovered her ability during her work with mutant children. Many of them asked her for help since she was the school counselor, and the person they trusted most outside her family. After a few minor accidents when they unintentionally affected her with their powers (she spent half a day floating), she started to notice that around her the signs of mutations ceased to exist, and, soon after, she could tell she had an aura that cancelled mutations altogether, as long as someone was inside it. She used her newly found ability (she didn't know if it was a mutation, or something else, and didn't even care) to help mutant children. After the divorce, she moved to Washington DC for a while; during the Regirstration Act, she hid mutant children in her house, using her ability to cancel their powers so they could pass for human. She did many dangerous things to help mutants during that time. Once it was all over, she quit her job, and couldn't find a new one. Both her children got scholarships to go to college, and moved to California to study; now that she was left alone she decided to move to New York, and look for a job where she could use her powers. She had heard of a school for mutants before; it definitely sounded like a place where she could be needed. So, in 2010, she was hired as a guidance counselor by Xavier's Sister School, and she has been working there ever since. Soon after moving to New York, Gemma met Jorge Cervantes, a police officer. They started dating, and eventually Jorge proposed to her... but then, due to an accident and his powers acting out, Jorge disappeared, dissolved in the ocean for five whole years, and presumed dead. Eventually, he found his way back to his own life, and back to Gemma, and they finally got married (eloped) in 2018. Gemma changed her name to Gemma Taylor-Cervantes. In the meantime she also adopted a mutant shapeshifter boy, Chase, and was raising him as her own. During the rift between New York and Other New York, they found Chase's doppelganger, Toby, and adopted him too. Now Jorge and Gemma are living together, raising the two kids, and trying to keep the Mansion a safe place for everyone.
Roleplay
Where did you learn about this site?: From my roommate, Jewel. Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: yup, Mirror, Muse, Javier, Princess Amethyst, and Pippa.
Sample RP:
The wind blew from the East, and a very unusual, not quite magical fairy godmother arrived to the gates of a shcool in a very mundane car. She had skin the color of dark chocolate, ebony hair that was pulled back from her face with a pair of sunglasses. She didn't need those for anything else anyway; heavy clouds hung low on the sky, and rain was tricking down the purple umbrella she held above her head. The tall woman walked over to the Mansion gates like someone who belonged there. She was a woman with a purpose. She stood in front of the gates as if she was about to kick them down instead of ringing the bell. Many people would have been afraid, or at least uneasy, to walk into a place full of mutants. She wasn't. Mutants had never hurt her in any way. Not on purpose, anyway. She'd been in New York for a few weeks now. She found out what she could, or at least what was comon knowledge about the mysterious Mansion. It sounded like a fascinating place. Huge, rich, safe, special, and in desperate need of a school counselor slash mother figure. It was a place full of mutants. In her eyes it was just another home full of children who needed decent meals, special clothes, and someone to look after them before they got into trouble. She was not entirely sure who actually ran the place, but she didn't really care either. Everyone listens to Mom.

Appearance
Hair color and style: Black, close-cropped, military style. Eyes: Black Height: 6'2" Build: Athletic Visible mutation: None Scars/ Tattoos/ Piercings: None Other features: She is very dark-skinned, almost ebony.
Everyday clothing style: SUPER uniform. Black, practical, pseudo-military, with heavy boots and a utility belt. Strips down to a black tank top and pants for training or exercise. She is rarely ever seen without a weapon. Usually wears darkened glasses that make it harder to read her facial expressions.
Character
Personality: Gemma is awoman of few words; tough, quiet, and efficient. She is a good problem-solver, and has the ability to stay calm in the middle of chaos. She makes decisions quickly, analyzing the circumstances and committing the course of action she judges most effective. In cases like this, it is useless to try to argue with her. She watches out for teammates, but is not the friendly type; she spends her free time alone, and prefers silence and reading to fraternizing with colleagues. She is not cold-hearted by any means, but she is also not interested in relationships outside of work. She tends to be especially awkward around children. Hobbies/ Interests: Reading, mostly. When she is not reading, she is training. Job or part time job and description: SUPER Agent. Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Inexplicably, she is terrified that her children might return to her one day. She would not know what to do with them, and she is afraid they would not even recognize her anymore.

Mutations
Mutation description: Adapted. Strengths: Full null within a 10 foot radius. Weaknesses: Not a mutant.
Fighting style
Explanation: Gemma was trained by SUPER to have a well-rounded array of fighting experience, since she is an adapted without mutant powers. She prefers close, hand-to-hand combat she she has her pick, and is not outmatched by her opponent; she mostly practices kickboxing when she trains. She is also a decent marksman with a hand gun, but rarely uses larger firearms (unless a mission calls for it, of course). Pros for fighting style: Gemma has been with SUPER for over a decade. She has a lot of field experience under her belt, and she is not scared of mutants. Cons for fighting style: She has no mutant powers. Her aura cancels them out if they get too close, but sometimes the 10ft radius is a lot closer than one can safely approach an opponent. When her aura is needed to shut a mutant down, she needs to get very close to them.
Faction Allegiance SUPER Agent. Kappa.
History Of Your Character: Gemma was born in Baltimore, MA, to a fairly poor family. She showed great talent at sports in school, and went on to be an athlete during high school. She showed promise, but due to an injury just before graduation, she did not go on to become a professional, taking a coaching job at her former school instead. She was in her early twenties, when she met her future husband, Simon, who was a Maths teacher in the school. They got married the next year. They had two children together, Laurent and Valerie. Initially, Gemma took is as part of her coaching duties to watch over the kids on her team, whether human or mutant. She even went out of her way to provide support to some of the mutant children rejected by their families. She briefly considered becoming a counselor to help them more... but then the unimaginable happened. Laurent and Valerie were five and seven years old when Gemma and her husband took them to Central Park one day. It was a beautiful day, and Gemma went to buy some ice cream for her family while Simon played with the kids. Unknown to them, there was also a mutant in the park that day, one with volatile powers... something triggered him, and his powers went haywire. Being a sort of telepath, his ability put everyone around him in a fifty-yard radius into a coma. Everyone except Gemma. Gemma found out she was an Adapted that day. Simon and the children were taken to a hospital... and then, after a year of failed tests and failed hope, transferred to a permanent care facility. Simon passed away five years later, but the children are still there to this day. Gemma was approached multiple times by SUPER during that initial first year, as the sole (conscious) survivor of the incident, but she was too distracted by grief to engage with them. Finally, after the transfer, she agreed to be recruited by them, and became a SUPER agent. Her previous athletic training came in handy as she was prepared for fieldwork, and she proved to be not only physically fit for keeping up with SUPER soldiers, but also a reasonably good marksman. She was put on the field immediately after her training concluded, and she has been bagging and tagging mutants ever since. She is not out for vengeance; she simply wants to help SUPER keep dangerous mutants of the streets. It is only logical.
