The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mike smirked. "No, this was the final straw that sent me here. I got bounced from school to school since I was fifteen. Kids kept deciding that 'smack the mutant' was a fun game to play, eventually I'd hurt one of them bad enough fighting back that their parents would get me kicked out and sue my dad. He'd settle out of court, and if it was bad enough we'd move. The last time it happened, eight of them jumped me behind the school. This," he indicated the scar, "Was just something that was laying there. Broken piece of a fire escape, I think."
He pulled his shirt back down. "My dad wouldn't let me come here, said it was bad enough publicity that I was a mutant, the last thing he needed was to have tied with 'Mutant High.' We fought about it, he wrote me out of the will, and I came here."

Daria listened to Mike's story intently. She had had a hard time right before coming to the academy too. "I didn't have my powers as long as you. and my parents weren't around to see me. They died in a car accident. I survived and came out like this... " She looked upward and wiggled her ears. "I probably should've dies along with them, I can't tell you how painful it is to hear people yell 'freak' when you ask them for help. But I guess you already know. I wanted to find the Mutants that helped heal me right after my accident but they weren't around anymore. I was in washington D.C, my home town and I traveld for about two years before I made it to New york." She lowered her legs and sat 'indian style' on the cot. "I was so happy to find a place where I might not be the only one with a tail."
Mike smiled. "Shame on the outside world. Didn't they hear in the latest fashion reviews that tails are hot?" He winked at her as he sat up. "You'd think it would be easier hiding mutations you can't see, but it's not. You can only take hearing things people aren't saying for so long before you slip up and reply to them. Or until you trip and catch yourself in thin air." He shook his head. "I was sloppy, I guess. Plus... I don't know, part of me didn't really want to hide it." He chuckled, "My mom always tried to tell me to be proud of myself. Apparently, that only applies until you end up being a mutant."

Daria smiled back as the air was filled with the sound of her tail swishing happily against the sheets. "Yeah, a part of me didn't want to hide it either. I mean, it seemed for a minute, that having special powers would be really great. I mean I'd never have to walk again! but i remember the first time someone saw my ears they screamed and called me an 'abomination' " she made air quotes. "And I was immediatly reminded of the time someone called me 'tar-baby' and I'm not even that dark!" she exclaimed half jokingly pointing to her honey colored skin. "and I realized that all prejudices are pretty much the same. My mother told me the same thing about being proud of myself but...." she shook her head "I can hardly tell who I am right now." she shrugged. "Do you always hear people thinking, or is it a deliberate thing?"
"I can block it out sometimes, but it's always there. It's like standing in a room where everyone's talking around you, but you're supposed to be polite and not eavesdrop. A lot of the time, 'privacy' just means pretending you don't know as much as you do."
He laid back down, looking up at the ceiling. "And it's not so much the thoughts as the emotions. I feel emotions first, then I get the thoughts if I get curious... or if the emotions are strong enough. It's... complicated."
He shrugged. "And you are the same person you were before the accident. Only with a tail. And new ears."

" I used to wish that I had mutated in a less visible way. I would've loved to have telekenisis." she leaned over to her side supporting herself on her elbow. She winced as her spine cracked....maybe she wasn't fully healed. "but it's funny, talking to you made me feel a little bit better. I mean I could be half snake or..half slug." she chuckled. Indeed she was the same person but she wondered if she still wanted to be. She had been unsure of whether she liked herself as a mutant but she had also been unsure of whether she liked herself before her mutation.
*tricity walked into the infirmary, still holding janie in her arms. the little girl jumped down and ran over to the docprof, giving him a big hug around his knees. the docprof bent down slowly and picked janie up slowly for his old age. tricity looked around and was happy that the infirmary was fairly empty. her eyes rested on cassiel and daria as she went over to the two.* "Hey guys. How are you feeling?"

Daria's ears perked up as Tricity entered. She hated having people mad at her and she hadn't gotten the chance to explain herself. "Can't complain." she muttered. She glanced at Mike.
"I'm alright..." *she said looking over at the docprof who continued to play with janie and hadn't come over to give her the 'lookover' like she promised she would let him do.* "Daria, I meant to talk to you about earlier. Do you mind if Mike stays?"

Daria laughed nervously at Mike's joke then focused her slender green eyes on Tricity. "I didn't start that fight. I went up to see where the smoke was coming from and this gurl with grey skin and white hair was was watching Kage. And i asked if there was anything i could do and he said "you could run" and then he transformed. I don't know 'bout you but i'm from the hood and he looked like he was tryna' start something." Daria said, her passion releasing her ghetto side. "So it was a misunderstanding i suppose."
"I'm not saying you started it. I just want to know what happened from all perspectives. Have you seen Dia? Uh, the girl with the grey skin? I wanted to make sure she was alright too.." *tricity asked, not seeing her anywhere in the infirmary.*
