The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Got a plot in mind?

So I know we're had quite a few plots that range from the timeline, to power affectants, to body switching, kidnapping, and controlling. But what about a different kind of plot?
I remembered we used to have a board for the Astral Plane (we may still have that but I'm not 100% sure) and that spawned an idea. What about if there was an extremely powerful mental mutant, like a telepath. Their powers grow so deep that they fall into a coma where they become trapped in the Astral Plane. In an attempt to rejoin the world, this mutant's powers begin to affect others and soon a section of New York falls completely unconscious, their astral bodies sent to the Astral world this mutant is trapped in.
The world is described to be very bright and there is no night. It is also said to be a place where karma takes its affect, but that could be further discussed. How this would affect characters would be that some are pulled into this Astral Plane where others on the outside have to find a way to find the mutant that put their loved ones and friends in the astral plane and then find some way to wake this mutant up along with everyone else while not falling into the Astral Plane as well.
For any evil characters or those with a rugged past, the Astral Plane could be a bit more dark and reintroduce you to those you have hurt in the past through astral projections, archangels, and such. Those inside the planes would not be able to find everyone that quickly, and there are 7 planes, each one reaching a bit higher and higher. Anyone who joins on the inside will be separated into one of those groups. While they're facing whatever entrapments and projections from their own minds, they also must find the source and try to save themselves from the Astral world instead of waiting for their friends to save them.
Some modern interpretations of this world could be personafied through some movies that have come out. For example Inception works with projections and how the affect the subconsious person in this state, thus ideas could be formed on how these projections your character places into this world would react. Wikipedia describes the Astral Plane though it's a rather complicated world.

Oooo sounds interesting. Sounds like a good chance to re-explore characters' pasts and whatever issues they might have with them. Let alone their fears and such. I like it.

This idea, I like it. I'm all in favor of this, since it would be a very unique plot unlike any I've heard about on this site. My only probelm with it, though, is that according to Marvel, I'm pretty sure nobody but telepaths and sorcerors can enter the Astral Realm. And we don't have any sorcerors and, what, one person who's a telepath? So maybe the only people that get pulled in are people with 11+ mental strength. I think that would still give a decent amount of people who could get sucked in.

To me, this sounds like a really awesome plot. Cookies to you, Fade, for coming up with it. I'm not sure how closely MRO follows strict Marvel rules, but I could see a powerful mutant being able to drag other minds into the astral, whether or not their mental strengths are that high. If anything, wouldn't it make more sense that those with higher mental strengths would be more resistant to being dragged in? I admit, I'm not up on all marvel cannon. Either way, I'd totally be for something along these lines.
That's the best part about Marvel though. If something's not possible in the real world, simply come up with a mutant that has powers that defy that 'law'. So if even a powerful telepath cannot cause others to fall into the Astral plane, what about a mutant that's powers are astral?
Let's say the mutant has not even developed it's power and something happens, a catalyst, where it suddenly develops? Like the mutant witnessed a murder or kidnapping or something to scar them for life and their powers grew. At first, they only got sent to the Astral World, maybe with the criminal and/or victim. Since the mutant didn't know they were a mutant, they of course don't know how to bring themselves back out of the world and accidently pull other people in? Just a mutant that doesn't know how to control their brand new powers. Anyone with a +11 mentality could try to help her, either within the astral world or outside.
*Raises hand* If anyone needs a good catalyst for some major telephatic boost...
I like the idea.
(It's somewhat similar to one we had with Brian (before he went on holiday) - if Muse kissed the dreamwalker, they would have sent a whole bunch of people trapped in the dreamworld, Sleeping Beauty style.
Anyhow. As usual, I'm game. Either with Mirror, or with Sveta. Cool idea, Fade!
*italics are spoken in Russian* Thanks to Siren for the sig and avi!

This sounds like a fun and interesting mini-plot, Fade.
I think this is one of those little plots that would work better with a small group of people, rather than a site-wide plot. It would work a bit like Emerald's recent 'face your fears' plot. You could start a sign-up thread, gather up a few posters, then start.
When you do, you might want to consider changing up the terminology a bit. We used to have an Astral Plane boards, but it never got used. We dusted it under the carpet. Right now, our only astral projector is Tarin, who projects to the real world. If you wanted to do an alternate reality, you could have a mutant whose powers worked to create a tiny self-contained world (a bit like Deimon Joan's power). It'd be an alternate world within a mutant's head, or that they could travel to. A self-contained, mutant-generated world, backed in their power, rather than 'Astral Plane' mysticism. I think that'd work with your plot.
Other than that, I think this idea sounds great. Feel free to gather up some interested people and get it running! Have fun!

I like the idea. I might want to throw Teddy into it, but he doesn't really have any demons in his closet or anything like that. I also might want to throw Streak in for some more fun. *more pondering than signing up*
