Character
Personality: Erick is a very psychoanalytical type of person. He is always looking at the reasoning of why any action is taken; his or another persons. He is sometimes referred to as having a cold heart, but he just sees himself as a very strict realist, who doesn't let too many things rile him. He also refers to himself as a modern day Aristocrat and Elitist, though his elitism spurs from educational backing more than blood line or financial backing though the latter are nothing to be sneered at. He is fascinated by Elizabethan age culture and society, and tries to emulate it in his everyday life. Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana, Oprah and Jackie Onassis are his idols. As a gay black man he has also built a very thick skin and most things roll off his back, though his own words can cut deep sometimes, even when he is trying to be helpful. He has a deep fondness for all types of music, but symphonies are his favorite. Sometimes when playing music or listening he will begin to tear up. He tells people he is crying because music is the one thing in the world that assures him that there is a Divine force somewhere out there.

He has a sleight fear of heights though it doesn't stop him from flying. His white knuckle phobia is of the concept of nothingness, stemming from a fear that no religion is correct and at death a person's consciousness simply floats in a black senseless void for eternity Special talents: Well versed in Greek, Celtic and Egyptian mythology; fluently speaks French, Latin and Greek.
Morality
Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Erick is more or less Good. He is not the type of person to go on every crusade just for the sake of justice, but he will help out against things he considers barbarically evil. Rape and pedophilia are the two things that he will stop at any cost.
Mutations
Mutation description: Erick's mutation allows him to tap into the electro-magnetic field generated by every living creature. Using this ability he is able to create a shield around any living thing to protect it from harm, by any other living thing. The way he does this by sensing the unique energy signature, or etheric as his religous veiws name it, of the person he is trying to protect, and also that of the one trying to attack it. Once he knows these two patterns, he calibrates one signature to resonate in dissonance of the other, effectively pushing back or repelling the two from each other. This mainfests visually as a light blue and silver haze around the person he is attempting to protect. This shield extends about three feet in all directions from the intend target.
Erick must be within a three yard radius of the thing he is attempting to protect, and the person he is trying to protect it from, in order to sense both energy patterns. The further within that radius from him something is the more concentration it takes to shield, sense and maintain the dissonance. If his intended target gets outside of his range, then his connection is lost, and all shielding immediately ceases and the energy signatures return to their original state.
Strengths: Erick can currently tap into five different fields at a time creating five different dissonant patterns, though he cannot layer shields on one object. Being able to sense electro-magnetic fields makes it all most impossible for Erick to be taken by surprise. The larger something is, the larger the shield will be. So this can be used to an advantage when large shielding is needed. I.E instead of trying to protect a number of people at once, Erick could change the pattern of a Tree, with a shield large enough to encompass all. If the thing Erick is trying to protect someone from happens to be rather large, or moving at high speeds Erick can add his own bioelectric energy to that of the person he is trying to protect, to strengthen their own field.
Currently Erick can maintain one shield for about thirty minutes before he becomes strained. Every additional shield after that, up to five in total, adds stress and limits the amount of time he can hold them with his max of five he can hold for about 15 minutes.
Weaknesses: If his shield is broken, or the strain of maintaining the shield goes on for too long, it sends him into a state of shock, incapacitating him for a little while.
Being too near large amounts of electric energy such as a power generators, electric plants or even in a heavy storm can overload Erick's senses effectively cutting off his control of his powers. Because of his fear of open water Erick cannot use his power on the open seas, and heights also effect his control.
Erick's shields cannot protect from psychic attack, nor is he able to layer shields on top of shields. Erick cannot shield something that is not creating an electro-magnetic field of its own. Nor can his shields stop anything that does not generate a field i.e. bullets, bricks, rocks, etc
Erick cannot effect the electro-magnetic field of ferrous metals due to mental blocks caused by his religious views.
The more people attacking someone or something that Erick is shielding the harder it is for his shielding to be effective. As each creature has a unique energy pattern, it is difficult to create dissonance for more than one signatrue ,in one shield, at a time.
Though he is able to sense the electro-magnetic field in the Earth, he has not been able to tap into it. Secondary mutation description: (if applicable) This mutation should be linked or make sense with your first mutation. You don't need a second mutation, but you can develop one later on with moderator approval. Strengths: Weaknesses:
Fighting Style
Explanation: Erick knows very little of fighting, though once in a bar fight he held his own. Most of his knowledge of fighting comes from the Sun Style of Tai Chi, which he took for religious/meditative purpose, and not for self defense. Pros for fighting style: Using the forms of Tai Chi Erick can sometimes tire out his opponent before any major blow is landed, but not often Cons for fighting style: Not really meant for anything aggressive or offensive.

History Of Your Character: Erick Jamall DeKatherine, was born in London, England to an African-American father, visiting the country for rest, and a British noble, Camille Amelia DeKatherine. Erick never knew his father, as his mother never loved the man and had no intention of telling him of her pregnancy. On the other hand Camille was meant to be a mother, and lavished all her love on her son. Despite her family's numerous attempts and much pleading to Camille to give the child up for adoption, for the shame it brought to the family, she never once thought of a life without her darling boy.
As Erick grew older, his family began to accept the fact that the wayward Camille would never give up her son, and so they too began to love him. Erick was an inquisitive child, and very smart. He became the jewel in his family's eyes, and could do no wrong. They spoiled him terribly and indulged his every whim. This however worked against Erick as he was not prepared for the judgmental world. In his tenth year, Erick went to boarding school, as all children of noble birth did, but his reception was not welcome. The other boys knew of his birth through their parents, and as children do, they mimicked their parents distaste. In their eyes, half noble was just as bad as common. Erick was ridiculed from day one, shunned by almost all his classmates, and even some of the teachers, called names and attacked at every corner of the illustrious school halls. One day it all became too much for Erick and he went to the Headmaster in tears, sobbing for his mother and pleading to return home. His tormentors laughed as the Headmaster promised to talk to Erick's family and make other arrangements for his education. It was the look of joy on his classmates faces that awoken his resolve to not let them win one over on him. Erick stormed into the Headmasters office and retracted his earlier statements, informing everyone in hearing distance he was a DeKatherine, and DeKatherine's run from nothing, including overly confident idiots. At this one of the bullies charged Erick, but before the Headmaster could intervene there was a loud pop and flash of light and the attacker fell to the ground.
As time progressed, even the boys at the boarding school began to warm to Erick. One of them would effect Erick's life in some major ways. His name was Mitchell and he was the eight son of a very old, but very poor noble family, and as such they allowed him to do whatever pleased him. Mitchell's interest ran toward the Occult, and it was he who introduced Erick to Paganism and Wicca. The first book Erick read, What Witches Do by Stewart Farrar sung to his very being. For years now Erick had been able to do peculiar things with the fields of energy around his friends. It could only be explained as magick, and the Christian God did not like magick, so he had to be Wiccan. Erick dived into everything Occult, reading every book he could find in the school's library, which wasn't much. So he and Mitchell began to trek on weekends into the city to find more material and mentors. It was during these outings that Erick discovered his feelings for Mitchell ran much deeper than his feelings for any of his other friends. He felt comfortable with Mitchell, comfortable enough to tell Mitchell about his special ability. At first Mitchell laughed it off, until Erick made the electro-magnetic fields around them both vibrate so much they began to glow. The look on Mitchell's face sunk Erick's heart, fearing he had lost his closest friend with the revelation of this secret; until Mitchell kissed him square on the lips an exclaimed he always new he picked a special guy. It was Mitchell who gave Erick the nick name Etheric, after the occult name of the electro-magnetic field that Erick tapped into. Erick and Mitchell were inseparable from that moment on. They continued studying everything Wicca, both of them dedicating themselves to Apollo, God of Light, Prophecy, Music and Healing and a lover of men. Mitchell also helped Erick with developing his powers by being a willing test subject which landed him in the hospital inexplicably a couple of times.
After the graduated the boys shared a dorm room at Oxford and their relationship went into an even deeper level. Erick confessed to his mother, once over summer's break that he loved Mitchell. Camille smiled saying she knew already, how could she not with the way Erick glowed when ever Mitchell was around. Erick vowed to be with Mitchell forever, but this was not to be. The following fall, Mitchell returned to Oxford, moving his things out of the shared dorm room. He told Erick, they could no longer be together, that their whole relationship was simply two young men acting on hormones and not real emotion or sense. Erick pleaded with Mitchell, begging to know what happened, even going so far as try and stop Mitchell from leaving by creating a shield around Mitchell, one that he could not pass through. Nothing could stop the solemn Mitchell or change his mind, and so a defeated Erick released the shield and let his friend and lover leave. The pain of loss was too much for Erick to bare, having never felt the sorrow of heartbreak and he also left, returning to his family's estate devastated and depressed. Camille, after making some inquisitions, discovered Mitchell was to be married to a young noble woman who had ruined her reputation through a fling with some American actor. The union would bring Mitchell's family much needed money. Two weeks before the wedding Erick received two things, a letter from Mitchell and an invitation to the wedding. In a moment of unfiltered rage he destroyed both throwing them into the fire place, a decision he has forever regretted. That night he left England for America, to get away from every memory of Mitchell and the joy and pain that came with that.
He has been in New York City now for three years, living off his substantial trust fund, making appearance in New York's High Society while still following his Wiccan beliefs and practicing his mutant abilities.
Roleplay Where did you learn about this site?: Google Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Sample RP: As the first rosy rays of sunlight broke their way through the blinds of of the north window, so to did "So What" by Pink blast from the T-Mobile phone resting on the end table and a radio host began yelling about the upcoming Dixie Chicks concert on the radio.
"Would you shut up!" Erick said, one eye open glaring at the cell phone as his left fist slammed repeatedly into the small radio, even after it stop making sound. "I hate machines that tell time." he groaned.
Erick rolled onto his side stretching out until his hands touched the head board and his toes peaked from beneath the covers. He thought about rolling back over, until the the phone began singing, loudly, Pink once again. "Dear gods I'm up already!" he yelled. "Gods do I wish I lived during the days when servants didn't dare to wake their masters!" He said as he sat on the edge of the bed and cut the blaring song off.
"Why am I up this early anyway" Erick thought to himself checking the calendar on the phone to see if he had any scheduled events that would cause him to be up at this gods forsaken hour. He sighed in disgust when he saw he did have something to do, Alanna Gatewood was unveiling her new home today, and wanted him there early to approve every little detail. Alanna wanted nothing more than to be a true blue blood, and felt that having someone from an actual Noble family was somehow going to make her one.
Erick stood up and stretched again, rubbing his face before he opened the large cabinet across from the window. Inside was his Altar, and in the center was a pewter statuette of Apollo. Erick lit some frankincense with a match from one of the drawers of the cabinet and set the incense on the Altar.
"Great Apollo, Lord of Light, grant me the Wisdom to get through this day...and the patience to deal with Alanna without incident." Erick said before bowing to the statue. Then he went to the window, opening the blinds and allowing the light to pour into the large master suite.
There in front of him was New York City, his home for the past three years, a place that never felt like home. A city full of potential and diversity, but it held no emotional attachment for him. It just happened to be the place he rested his head. His real home, London, was wrought with too many soul tearing memories for him to return right now, or for the foreseeable future. Apollo grant one day he could return though, he missed his family, especially his Mother. "I should call her today" he said aloud as he moved towards the bathroom.
"I ought to just go in my boxers. Alanna would have everyone down to their undies if I came in mine. In her eyes everyone is wrong, until I prove them right." Erick thought, smiling as he turned the shower on testing the temperature of the water. "There are a couple of her friends I wouldn't mind seeing down in their bare essentials." he said, laughing aloud, seriously contemplating the idea.
