The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The source of all the struggle in New York is the difference of one little, measly gene.
Humans are valuable for their genetic diversity as well as their dormant X-genes. Not everybody has one, but wouldn't it be grand if every X-gene out there was activated? And if they didn't have an X-gene, why not give them one?
The time is finally here for the Drug Plot. The world will never change without someone making the changes.
The place that it attaches makes a difference in how their temporary mutant powers manifest.
The powers that manifest are random, but once a power has been "chosen" or once the drug gets its hooks into the human's code it leaves it's mark on that code.
The next time the human takes the drug, the drug hooks in to the same place. This means that the humans will have the same power every time they use the drug and the more they use the drug, the more they risk damaging their own genetic code.
Since the humans are unused to their powers it stands to reason that upon their first use they're out of control. Upon later uses they will have more experience and possibly more control
The more a human uses the drug, the bigger the hole left in their genetic code where the drug hooked in. That means that the drug will work for less time each time that they take it.
Because the code is only attaching a weaker mutant factor onto what is already existing it will NOT work for mutants with an already active x-gene.
The X-gene Activation Drug
Completely above the board. Faust Pharmaceuticals is going the legal route pending FDA approval.
The drug is a cocktail of catecholamines and enzymes. In essence they're simulating the stress conditions that typically activate the X-gene. Giving it a big push and the perfect conditions for it to bloom. Unfortunately, the body doesn't always respond well to stress....

Meld could be a righteously indignant independent up for trying to find some missing mutants. And, so long as she never finds out who is ultimately responsible for the kidnappings, is available for hire for anything that could be seen (manipulated) to benefit the mutant cause.
A couple of notes: Remember everyone that this is just stage one. If you don't yet see a spot for yourself in this stage, there may be more that's up your alley in the later stages!
Also, you don't have to be a knight in shining armor that charges in to rescue those kidnapped in order to contribute to the plot. You could be quietly reading or watching the news that mentions aspects of this plot that are known-to-the-media things, you could be a concerned mansionite that wonders why someone failed to meet you for lunch like they were supposed to, or you could be a student that suddenly notices that security has gotten really really strict since the mansion security head was kidnapped. These are the kinds of things you can slip into your other, normal threads to add to the atmosphere of the plot.
Speaking of which... could we increase mansion security in response to the kidnappings? (After they happen, of course.) I think it would make sense to have teams of people on round the clock perimeter watch at the mansion, if possible. These are dangerous times, after all, with mutants getting kidnapped right and left.
Katrina might be doing some of her own unofficial surveillance, invisible-style.

I was thinking it would be a good excuse to have a couple large x threads. I chatted with Ghosty in the cbox about how we don't actually want the missing to be found since they wont be missing long and technically police wouldn't take it seriously until it's been a certain amount of time... but I would like to head up some threads of groups meetings at the X's for discussion around the missing, theories, upping security etc. It would allow some of us X's to get some more group threading in and hopefully lay the framework for some future plot related missions and threads etc.
Less meeting. More doing. *tattoos this across her chest*
Big group meetings are honestly the most boring threads in the history of threads to actually write. Instead of having a big meeting to discuss the disappearances and what to do about it... skip the meeting and just do the doing part. You can always hand wave that you were assigned perimeter duty at a meeting and just do the perimeter duty.
Or have an OOC thread to discuss what would have been announced at the meeting. That would go quicker and would give everyone the same information about what happened at said meeting.
You could also do two person threads where you are just coming from a meeting where you discuss theories about what happened, and such. Also, two people on security patrol together = a good way not to get kidnapped and a great opportunity for getting to know someone.
In my experience, big group threads only really work well for parties and brawls.
I suppose I should officially put Juka's name in for the patrols as well. I believe there may even have been a Cbox suggestion to have Juka and Saph team up for said security related adventures, if you're up for it Saph.
