MRO is an intermediate to advanced writing level original character, original plot X-Men RPG. We've been open and active since October of 2005. On November 1st, 2009, the Kabal will begin its takeover of Romania; by January 1st, 2010, Slate will own the country from the shadows. The X-Men and the Order are invited to play—chances are, anything they do will end up furthering the Kabal’s aims.
Let’s explain.
The Setting Romania is quite like its RW self: it’s a new member of the European Union; home to some of the most beautiful natural preserves in the world (and Transylvania, former residence of Vlad the Impaler); it was second only to Germany for the atrocious treatment of human life during WWII; and, last but not least, it’s government has a long history of corruption at all levels.
The difference: in the MROverse, two years of Romania politics just cumulated in the passing of a Mutant Registration Act. All mutants are henceforth to be fitted with power-suppressing shock collars. Those who resist—or those who are simply deemed “too dangerous for human society”—will be imprisoned. There has been a well-organized Mutant Resistance against this law for quite some time. [Note: Unlike the NYC version of the Mutant Registration Act, Romania does not have Stalker Bots. Just human enforcers.]
Weather—Since we’ll be there in Nov/Dec, the weather will be freakin’ cold by Texas standards, and a balmy spring day by Minnesota standards: heaps of snow, and temperatures around 32-50 °F (0-10 °C).
Language—Romanians speak Romanian. If your character does too... great! If they don’t, Dragon Speak’s gems are on Slate, this time, for all Factions. The Kabal and X’s will be given them; the Resistance will be given some in good will, which can just “happen” to fall in the hands of any O’s that come. These gems will make your character omni-lingual until the end of the plot. Though you risk some digestive discomfort... [gems are for those that want them: it can certainly be fun to play out the language barrier . No stashing gems for after the plot, sorry.]
Slate’s Plan (co-planned with the wonderful Circe, OOC. Kudos to her for suggesting this entire idea. Moving in small teams, the Kabal is going to bribe its way into power, giving lower governmental officials a few pretty pennies to change their mind on the issue of mutant rights. This bribery will be made easier by the continued assassinations of the true zealots in the government, and the destruction of the National Bank. As for the Senate... good thing Slate will be there to heal the survivors, when their building so unfortunately detonates. [Bribe money will be drawn from Slate’s new cut into the South American drug trade.]
At the same time, Slate will be rallying international pressure against Romania’s actions by playing up the obvious Holocaust parallels. Considering that the Romanian government saved money by simply re-fitting their former concentration camps for use as the new mutant detention centers, it will be rather hard to ignore those ties...
Your Place Kabal and Commissioners: stand by for mission postings, coming soon on this thread. There will be both fast and slow-paced ones, so look at how your RL Dec/Nov will be, and sign up accordingly.
Order: Contacts with the Romanian Resistance will be arranged for you IC; you have Lori’s blessings to come and play. There’s a lot of killin’ and explodin’ that ain’t going to do itself...
X-Men: The Kabal will invite you fine folks IC, and Cold Steel will accept--part of the team will be brought over. Talk to CS if you'd like to be included in that.
Neutrals: Feel free to come over as Kabal Commissioners, or just come on your own.
For anyone of any allegiance with other plans for the month—no need to come at all. Besides, someone needs to stick around NYC to greet the newbs. On that note:
Newbs—Unless you’re coming with a Faction, I’d suggest you sit this out. It’s better to get your chara established in NYC than to have them running around Romania. There will be more take-overs in the near future: never fear.

Slate starts rallying various international figures against the Registration/Camps
November/December:
[November 1st] Registration Act approved: the NYC players enter the country
[starting Nov 1st] Nationwide Resistance unifies, and instead of going underground, they start taking action: important/zealot politicians start getting targeted; the National Bank and a few key buildings get destroyed
[starting early Nov] the Kabal’s bribe team starts making its move, convincing lower politicians to speak out against the Registration Act. This attitude change is made easier by their pay checks now coming from Slate, and the fear that the Resistance will target them next (<< Kabal and Commissioners only)
[starting early-mid Nov] Slate and Circe (and others) work with the Resistance: Slate and Circe just ‘happen’ to be there on a mission that fails, and Slate heals the Resistance’s leader
[starting late Nov/early Dec] Senate gets blown up/Slate heals survivors: Slate gets arrested and tossed in Camps (<< Anyone else who wants to get tossed in the Camps can feel free, as well, at anytime.)
[starting mid-Dec] Camps breakout!
[New Year’s Eve] Law gets reversed; Slate is left in control of Romanian politics through continued bribery of the lower people and mental commands in the higher-ups. All he needs to do is keep up the payments, and visit the country every two years around election time to meet any up-and-coming politicians. The Resistance Leader, ‘thankfully’, is willing to work with the government towards making the country a more genetically accepting place. Bombings and assassinations end; everyone goes home happy, except the ones who are dead. But there’s no use crying when there’s world peacing to do.
**NOTE FOR ALL KABAL AFFILIATED** The boss man, Slate, would like you to keep your lily white hands as clean as possible. If you must ahem murder or any other such unsavory acts, please do so with discretion for the greater good of the Kabal. The rest of you, feel free to make this a horror-fest worth remembering.

Lori will send the beacon of the revolution Abyss and company along with any other Order members who wish to go. I haven't decided if she will go herself just yet (electrical equipment failure and plane crashings aside).
Once in Romania and linked with the resistance, the obvious place for Orderlings will be conveying the good word of mutant superiority in the universal language of punch you in the face. Bombings and assassination just don't happen on their own, young ones.
I think we'll be taking on the Senate bombing and the National Bank draining *cough* I mean destruction. Also any underground shady dealings of weapons or skeezy loans you might want to hand out on behalf of the Order is fine by me. Remember that if it doesn't profit mutantkind or our pockets, it's usually not worth doing.

Lenna is interested in Bribe teams, as long as the recruitment of her is set prior to this, and goes relatively unmentioned in threads. I'd hoped she'd be a full Kabal by now, but November is coming up fast and the threads she's in are moving slowly. Lenna's also willing to help break mutants out of the camps...
Shin is open to whatever X-men missions Sam assigns him. It would be interesting if he got stuck in the camps...
Order members: Assassins? You say? I will gladding sign up for the taking out some high political figures. But I think it would be a nice change if Shade was to actually fail during a mission, and get taken to the camps. If they are both possible, I'm down, but if not, I'll just take the assassinations.
Also, I'm down for any Order missions that occurs. And if y'all need someone to plant bombs for the Senate bombing, I volunteer myslef.
I'll do anything really. I am not going to go for X-Men joining for a bit until college takes off, i get settled in at the Mansion, and the clinic opens and we get all that organized. Roland follows orders and he likes his missions hard boiled and messy.

Im in at least for bribing action. Of someone wants to join Martin, please tell me. On another note: If Im allowed to help with the rescue of people without being thrown into a camp Id like to have Martin help with the breakout.
i think I'll volunteer Sara for Bribery, and the senate bombing. I've been waiting for that story line. I suppose I'll send Sara off to the camps, and therefor she will be up for the escaping and all that jazz I might add more if I see the chance arise.
As for pix, put her under anything with the order. She'll be happy to steal money, make big explosions and kill people.
