The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"what i mean is, we each have a nature in us that gives us purpose, a reason nature gave us life. Mine is to follow orders and to fight for my people so the next generation does not spend it's life's in test tubes. Besides, the beauty in you i like best is how you dance, that inner beauty and skill that shines through in the midst of the dance Even if your invisible." She said, in truth she found all mutants to be beautiful in their own way It was also a bit of a lie that physical beauty had not played a role into her liking of fade. Aura was actually quite fond of the color of the womans hair. Aura took a moment to consider what she could do with fades powers, well what she knew of them, it was hard for her to picture things going much differently though.
"I Like the Sound of Fade better anyway, it sounds more natural to me, but then Humans names tend to sound strange to me. I do have some trouble with names, i recall people well enough, but names sort of slip." She admitted though she thought since fade described what she did, she would be ok with that. "Although i should be able to recall Fade, i tend to remember people for who they are, or how i recall them" she said which was why she recalled people like frog legs, stick man, the water bag and Frosty. Maybe she had simply forgotten her own name in favor of Aura for the same reason.
"I have as well and i only know the basics of the internet, but for humans and mutants to live together one must eliminate the fear. Mutants fear being hurt, killed or having a love one killed simply for being who they are and humans fear the mutant will hurt or put them out of a job. I do not beleive that fear can be eliminated however, Things are more complex of course, but im only a solider" Sher replied as she saw the police lights getting closer, she would ahve to go very soon.
"Who says the next generation will be in test tubes? We have extraordinary gifts. Some of us can survive cancer. If humans want to learn something from us, then let them, so long as we do not get caged and abused," she added. It was vital that no mutant be hurt in any procedure to help cure humans from common or rare ailments. "Human names sometimes get boring. What exactly is a Sarah? Who is to say a Sarah can Sarah?" she added with a giggle, it was an odd thought. She most certainly could not Jenny, she could Fade, but what was a Jenny? It was a name picked out by her parents before they really got to know her. Nothing against her parents, even though she really did not know them, but Fade seemed to fit her better than Jenny, even if Sam, or Cold Steel, whoever he wanted to be called, referred to her as Jenny.
"You can know my name because I really do Fade in front of your eyes. And I will remember you, because you have an odd Aura, it is much easier to remember than Jessica or Samantha or something human like that." It was not that Fade had anything against humans, but she enjoyed her mutant name more than her human name. Fade had heard of the Internet before, but she had never used it. Well, the first thing to know was how to read and write and since she could not do either, a computer's only purpose was to look pretty. If only she had been a technomancer.
"How can fear not be eliminated? If we show the world that there is nothing to fear, if we show them that we are not these God awful creatures and that we have feelings just like those humans we once were, then we will grow a fan crowd. I mean, do you really think that by killing humans, you are eliminating any fear of us?" She hated to preach. In fact, to act like she was 'holier than thou' was the biggest pet peeve she had. She was not holier than anybody, she had her own faults when it came to stealing, but she did not kill anyone, not yet at least. And she never planned on killing anyone.
"because only fools defeat fear, or pretend to anyway, Humans, Mutants it's the same for both. If i did eliminate every Human, the fear would not stop, wars would still occur. If their were no mutants the Humans would find something else to fear. Fear is what causes war and arguments, fear of being wrong, hurt or having a loved one takin away. Life is not that simple, if you eliminate the fear people rejoice then find a new one. What happens the first time a child discovers her powers, and flattens her school, can you tell me that fear will not rise again? All it takes is an accident then we all go cages with collars that take our powers from us. If the humans survive we will either be very sorry or on the front lines of the next humans war, like the newest bomb" she said, sounding a bit preachy herself, but she could not help it, she wanted fade to understand, but in her heart she knew it was just wishful thinking.
"I eliminate Human waste, the threat to our people, I was not in this land before, but i seem to recall many speaking of camps the humans put us in" She walked over to fade. "How many humans do i need to save before the humans decide not to kill me, because if they take my powers that is what they have done. Even if your right, my path has already been determined, still i am curious.......if your humans are so kind, why not send me with them?" she said , her words were serious but her eyes spoke another story all together. "I am pretty sure according to the humans i have earned a life sentence, 2 banks a few stores many dead, why protect me, someone who goes against all your ideals?
"Still just because we disagree on something does not mean we can't be friends and have some fun now and then" She enjoyed their banter but their were so many other topics they could speak of, although now might be a profoundly bad time for it. "whoever is right, let's just hope it means' the fighting will stop and their will be no need for solders" She said referring more to solders, combat was needed. SHe enjoyed combat even lived for it, but she knew constant war would just leave the world dead. "If all the fighting and savageness was gone tomarrow, what would you do?" she asked curiously with a smile, even as she tried to trace Fades cheek with her finger.
"So if there is war no matter if there are more humans than mutants or more mutants than humans, then why should we fight? I mean, if there will be war no matter what, then why put in the effort?" She asked, raising a red eyebrow at the so-called 'evil one'. Some of the Mansion people had no idea what it was like to live out on the streets, to have so many people looking down on you and to turn to a life of crime. It was not the highlight of Fade's life, but it was the part that took precedence over becoming an X-Man, twice.
"Saving one human will not save you from the rest of them. Just like how one human saving a mutant will not save them from the rest of the human population. We can't expect to just save one person to save yourself." Maybe she was rambling, but maybe she was aware that she was rambling. And maybe, just maybe, she really enjoyed rambling. Still, she tried to keep her attention focused and tried to analyze everything that was put on her plate.
"I have lived a life of crime before. I don't run around and flaunt it, or whatever word they use to describe that, but I have lived a life of theft and such. I mean, com'on, being a mutant that can turn invisible and phase through walls and climb walls and ceilings and such, it's just all too easy. When I ran away, I lived out on the streets, but I lived in style. I used to live in a mall, right up in the ceiling. I just stole a mattress and put it up there. Stole a DVD player, a television and whatever movies I wanted to watch. I stole money, liquor, even things that I didn't need. Hell, I stole an egg beater. What was I going to do with that?" She still had not reached her point.
"I guess what I am trying to say is that I know what it is like. I don't want you to go to jail. I don't want you to kill. But I don't want you to change who you are for someone else. I just guess all of that stuff confuses me. I dunno what it is like to be the good guy anymore," she sort of looked down at her toes on that one. Honestly, being the good guy was tough. She tried so hard to be the good guy but sometimes it just did not work. She tried to do the right thing, to break into KP to get the antidote, but sometimes her pride and her inner criminal took over. She was going to be trained to become an X-Man again, would she be able to pass or would she be a loner for the rest of her life. Aura asked what Fade would do if all of the bickering ended.
"What would I do if that all ended?" After a few moments of long and hard mental debate, she finally spoke up. "Hell, I would have a cold beer."
"Because the wars may continue but it will be OUR people who wield their own fate and they deserve that much and their are periods of safety mixed into the battle. Life itself is a fight to survive" She said, Fade was less the Hero type then Aura had thought. True the title she gave people was a general one and so was hers of evil. Had Solider man not been to type she could well have ended up killed. Still she was here, he had lived to but their mission had been a sucess.
Fade had taken awhile to get to her point, but that was all right with Aura, she simply enjoyed the company. it had been to long since she had enjoyed herself so much, A beautiful dance and a lovely conversation. Fade had a hero streak to her for sure, but no one was perfect. She was right those talents made her an excellent theif, Aura made sure to note this as well mentally. "Good, evil their just terms, what matters, my friend, is to be yourself, no matter what that is. No one beleives what they are doing is evil, everyone does only what they can justify at the time" she said slipping into some quoted words from Miracle. "We can only do what our convictions tell us to and mine tell me that my path is the way to achieve the survival of our people, so i pursue that goal. Your goal and convictions may well be different and thats ok to" she said trying to comfort the girl, as she now seemed a bit sad . "Ultimately it is not if one kills or steals that makes you good or bad, it's the reason why" she said goinjg on with her reply. "yopu have a better plan then i do, i dn't know much off of the feild of battile, and the skills i do have might get me arrested" she said with a laugh, figuring Fade would not enjoy her taste in decor.
"I don't kill simply to kill, i kill the wretches of society so my people are not jumped at night, sure i have fun to, but their is a reason for it. "At least those people die for a reason, how truly sad would be simply to be killed with no reason. You do what you have to survive, weather that be stealing or killing, whatever gets you that warm bed. For me the way to get a warm bed and food, was to become a loyal solider and that meant killing the humans who attacked us or those guarding mutant testing labs. Whatever we told to do we did, following orders kept us alive and gave us reason. It had costs, i no longer recall my name or age, or even what my parents looked like, or if i had siblings. " she said beleiveing she was repeating herself now. "But it also made my loyel, devoted and gave me direction in life and most of us it gave me freedom, which is the most importent thing" she said believing no mutant should be caged, though she failed to see how it could be avoided practically.
Aura's feelings toward Fade were quite mixed, it was hard enough to figure out what a man felt towards her, it was even more complex to decipher what a female felt towards her. Females had a different way with dealing with everything. First off, well, there was really no first off. She was good looking, she looked innocent, even though Fade had already figured that she was quite far from innocent. It was the slight tingle in her voice that told Fade that even though she had done evil, she was unaware that it was evil. The redhead was still trying to figure out how to react with that.
When Fade lived on the street, stealing was not bad, it was the only way to survive. Had she been brought up with a normal family, maybe even with her real family, maybe things would have turned out differently. Hell, her cousins, Amp and Vibe had turned out evil, or by society's standards, they were evil, were they really? They had just been brought up different. Although Fade loved the Mansion and those that lived there, most Mansion people had never lived the tough life that Fade and Aura had lived, Jenny might be one of the few Mansionites who could understand this 'evil' side of other mutants.
"I have been arrested, many times, but because of my phasing and invisibility, it is hard to keep me in a cell long enough to be processed, or even keep me in a cop car for that matter, or hand cuffs." Her mind told her she had made a sexual joke, but she refrained from laughing...cuffs. "Well, Aura is a beautiful name." Wow, Fade had a real tendency to walk on the wild side.
"Yes i can see how that could get you out of quite a bit of trouble, just passing through the objects they use on you. As you already proved in our dance, a target you cant connect with is very to defeat." she said considering the ability even more. She had to admit she wondered if Fade could phase out somones heart if she was close enough, that would atop a battle cold as most people required organs to live, Aura knew she did anyhow. Still she ahd known a few mutnats who did not rely on them to live, though such mutants seemed to be the exception to the rule.
"I should be going as inept as the police in this city are, they will eventually bring sufficent force" She said seeing the lights comming down the road already. The last thing Aura wnated to do right now was fight the police. Her Aura had felt a good amount of strain against fade and deflecting bullets was not going to be fun. It was funny how mutants trying to save their people could try and do so in such different ways. SHe had enjoyed fade and hoped to see her again. "It would be nice if we could meet up again, either to chat or dance again" she said with a smile.
"Thank you, I enjoy the name quite a bit. myself" she said as she began to walk away she stretched a bit, mostly her shoulders. and made her way to the fire escape. Aura loved that the city seemed to have so many of them, maybe they were required, it did not matter. "As i said i would stay but im not so sure the cops would actually arrest me" she said and considering the somwhat heavy death toll she ahd inflicted in udner a year in the city, it was likely they would simply shoot her untill she passed out or died. It had gotten worse since she killed that man in broad daylight and even more so after that incident in the church and several others.
