The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Hunter couldn’t wait. Flinging open the door he dashed into the bathroom to find Paragon on the floor having a panic attack. Kneeling next to her he took her in his arms and tried to calm her. “Iris, it’s me Hunter. You need to calm down. Everything is fine. Breath. Breath.”
Unless she started to calm down soon he would use his mesmer to help. He couldn’t bear to see her like this, and felt far worse as he knew it was he who had caused it. But once she found out what the gem did it would be worth it. at least that’s what he told himself.

Everything blurred together for Iris. She didn't hear either the door opening nor Hunter entering shortly after. And with as panicked as she was, his proximity only aggravated things. She struggled to pull away, not really seeing him, simply trying to get away from another person who, in her mind, she was convinced she was putting in danger.
Most of her cries were unintelligable, though the words "another one" could be made out every few seconds. At that point, there was absolutely no reasoning with her, or hope of her calming down on her own.
Out of options Hunter held the sides of Paragon’s head gently but firmly and locked her eyes with his. Exercising his will he reached into her mind and began to sooth the panic. He was slowly eroding it, eating away until the panic attack passed. Once it had stopped he would retreat from her mind.
He didn’t like changing her thoughts, and so would only do enough to bring her out of her panic and allow her to vocalise her worry in a more rational manner and be able to respond to his words. From there he’d attempt to calm her by more conventional methods.

At first Iris fought Hunter's gaze, for the simple fact that in her panic all she could see were the eyes in her nightmares. They bored into her mind, backing her into a dark corner. Her subconscious sent frantic flashes of images to her eyes, but they were snatched away before she could identify them. The only thing she could tell was that the same images were replaying over and over, like a faulty recording set on rewind.
She grabbed his wrists, digging her nails into the skin, trying to push him away from her. She was unaware that he was actually trying to help.
Slowly, the panic began to fade away. She didn't understand why, and, for another reason she also couldn't fathom, it didn't seem important to know. Her breathing and weeping slowed, to the point where she was only making those odd, sharp little gasps that come from crying too hard. Her grip on his wrists relaxed as well. All of her energy was drained.
She blinked several times, finally seeing him through her still-flowing tears.
"Wha-what's hap-happening.... to m-me??" Her voice was somewhat strangled-sounding.
She looked up, toward the mirror. She could see the diamond-like crystal glittering at her in her mind's eye. Under different circumstances, it would have been beautiful to see. But now....
The very thought reduced her back to tears, though her sobbing had lost its hysterical edge.
Now Paragon had been brought out of her panic attack Hunter released the grip on her head. The small cuts that she had caused with her nails were already healing, and would be gone in ten minutes. He hugged her to him, trying to comfort her. “It’s alright Iris. I promise you, everything is alright.”
“It’s ok, this happens to a lot of mutants,” he explained gently, still hugging her, “it’s a secondary mutation, sort of like a growth spurt for mutants. There’s nothing to worry about.” Especially not with this gem. Hunter knew that this gem would help Paragon.
If only he knew what would happen when she activated it now it had absorbed some haywire.

It had been a long time since Iris felt so lost. She’d always been an introvert, of sorts, keeping to herself most of the time. But she never considered herself to be weak. After all, she’d fostered wolf cubs several times, helped the zoo vet with some of the bigger animals, like elephants, even assisted local authorities in breaking up a dog pit-fighting ring several years ago. In fact, she’d been so ticked off at the leader of that ring at the time, she’d laid him flat on the floor with a fist to his nose. Of course, such a rarity was due to current stress; she didn’t make a habit of trying to punch out anyone who made her angry. But that fact was that Iris had always considered herself, for the most part, fairly confident.
Yet here she was, shaking and crying like a child scared of the dark, all because of a rock no larger than a dime. A rock that, if it held true to past pattern, would only mean more stress and heartache to those she cared for, simply by existing.
“It’s ok, this happens to a lot of mutants. It’s a secondary mutation, sort of like a growth spurt for mutants. There’s nothing to worry about.”
A secondary mutation? A growth spurt?? Growth spurts happened to teenagers! She was twenty, for crying out loud! And nothing to worry about?? The logical part of her mind seriously doubted that.
It took a while for Iris to calm down enough to stop crying, at which point the current situation registered in her mind. Embarrassment and modesty rushed in to take the place of the stress, and she blushed bright red as she pulled away from Hunter, and retrieved and replaced her shirt. All she needed, on top of everything else, was for rumors to start flying around the school that she was having a fling with one of the teachers.
”I-I’m sorry. I’ll b-be okay. I think. Maybe....” She pulled herself off of the floor, and picked up her wash cloth, dousing it with cold water and holding it to her face. The shock helped restore her equilibrium a bit more. She groaned slightly.
”God, I’m afraid to know what this one does...” she mumbled through the towel.
When Hunter felt Paragon pull away from the hug he let her, allowing her to sort herself out. Rising to his feet with her he put a comforting hand on her shoulder. “We don’t have to do any training today,” he assured her, “not if you don’t want to. We can just talk, or I can go and let you have some time to yourself. Whatever you need.”
This would all be better once she used the gem he assured himself. Once she used it and saw that she could use her powers with no change to her mind she would see this gem for what it was. A gift. A gift from him to her to try and make up for what had happened.

(OOC: Going to fast forward a bit to day four, on Iris's part, 'kay?)
“We don’t have to do any training today, not if you don’t want to. We can just talk, or I can go and let you have some time to yourself. Whatever you need.”
She shook her head, still buried in the towel. "I'd rather stay here. By myself." She didn't intend to be rude, but right at that moment she just wanted to be alone. Her headache was coming back full force, and her stomach was threatening to unload again; not exactly time you wanted to spend with someone else watching at you.
She managed to wait until he was gone before continuing her redecorating job.
She spent most of the day either in bed or in the bathroom, alternating between feeling sorry for herself or being sick. She had to wait the headache out, since she couldn't keep anything down long enough to take painkillers. Finally, by evening, she was able to sit up in bed for longer than a few minutes without seeing water waves in front of her eyes. Ebony was curled up upside down in her lap, purring loudly, every now and then batting at Iris's fingers as they stroked her neck and belly.
Iris stared at the wall, trying not to move too much as her thoughts wandered. The hysterics had passed, leaving her thoughtful now.
Now that she was calm enough to think, she did remember hearing of mutants developing secondary mutations. But she hadn't expected anything like this. If her body had developed another gem, did that mean it had developed the other five as well? She had no idea where the gems had come from, but she had assumed someone put them there, not that her own body had created them. If the latter was true, did that mean it would eventually make four more stones, to match the other circles on her back? What would they be capable of? What was this one capable of? The color gave no indication. Did it work like the other five? The only way to find out would be to activate it. Was she ready to do that?
She swallowed back another wave of nausea. She was stressing again, and her body was reacting. She blanked out her mind for a few minutes, listening to the siamese purr instead. Finally the wave passed, and she opened her eyes. Her gaze landed on Ruby's snoglobe yet again.
A bit of frustration washed over her, mixed with anger. She hated feeling out of control, helpless. Because of it, she was basically a prisoner in her own room, no better off than when she was in that cell, being taunted by Syn and Kaz. Except this time the only thing keeping her there was her. She was letting her mutation run her, rule her actions. Yes, she had put her friends in danger. And unless she did something about it, it was going to happen again. She was spending so much time considering the 'What if's, that she was cowering away from reality.
Carefully, so she wouldn't disturb her pet, she reached back with her arm. The gem was still there; it hadn't been an illusion. The area around it was still tender, as if bruised, but the headache had been more painful than that.
She sighed deeply, and relaxed again. There was no denying it; the stone was real, and there to stay. She was going to have to deal with it and move on. If it held true to form, it was dangerous as well. But it would be more dangerous if she didn't know what it could do. The best way to find out was now, in the Danger Room, where she could be contained if something went wrong. And she could be alone.
It wasn't long after coming to that conclusion that she fell asleep for the night.
-----------------------------------------
The next morning Iris was up before the sun. Ebony watched sedately from the top shelf of the closet as her mom dressed quietly and quickly.
Her sleep had again been restless, but Iris held to her determination. She was going to test this new gem out, but she was going to do it on her own. It would be safer that way. Giving her friend a quick kiss on the head, she picked up a bottle of water from her desk, opened the door quietly, and peered into the hall. Not seeing anyone, she slipped out, closing the door behind her.
Hunter silently nodded and quietly left her to her thoughts. He had more than a few of his own to deal with. His return to the main area of the labs was at an unhurried pace. Despite knowing that he’d chosen to do this for a very good reason seeing Paragon like that had shaken him deeply. He needed to do something to clear his head.
-----------
Blocking the punch he span away from a kick as he lashed out with his free hand, hitting another man on the temple and causing him to crumple in a head. Of the three dozen men he was training against a dozen were down. None of them had managed to lay a blow on him. He’d completely cleared his mind, leaving no room for any thoughts of Paragon. With his mind clear his body was reacting on instinct, moving like quicksilver as he flowed around the men’s attacks.
A blow to the chest sent another man flying as he systematically defeated each one in turn. Every movement was with a purpose, every attack just enough to defeat the opponent. No energy was wasted as he moved through them, taking them down with seeming ease. Grabbing the final man he hurled him across the room. The man hit the wall and slumped down motionless.
He stood there, covered in a thin sheen of sweat as he surveyed his surroundings. Three dozen men lay scattered about the room in motionless heaps. He remained in the tranquil state of empty mind for a moment longer before allowing his thoughts to return. Paragon just needed time, so that’s what he would give her.
-----------
Hunter was awoken early and informed that Paragon had left her room. Pausing only to dress he flew from his quarters and raced for the replica mansion. He didn’t know what she was doing, but she knew she was meant to stay in her room, so it couldn’t be good.
(OOC: I’m leaving you space to activate the gem before I arrive)

Iris reached the Danger Room unseen and slipped inside. Crystal's program had still remained unavailable, so Iris was on her own. She moved to the controls, studying them for a moment. They looked slightly different than she remembered, but it had been a while since she been there on her own. Eventually she found the correct code for a mirror, which appeared in the center of the floor. Finding the tranquilizer program took more doing to setup, and in the end she still wasn't sure she had it right. But she was on a mission, and so hoped for the best. Perhaps she wouldn't even need the tranquilizers.
<"Yeah, right...">
She returned to the center of the room, set the water bottle on the floor, and stood in front of the mirror. Briefly, she questioned her actions. What this the right time? There was never going to be the 'right time', just less advantageous opportunities, and worse places.
She inhaled deeply, steadying herself. In her mind's eye, she pictured the new gem, clear and fiery as a diamond. Her body tingled and burned, searching for this new, unused object to absorb into itself. The sensation was more painful than the others, and Iris winced.
<"It's just from the first use,"> she assured herself. <"I've felt worse. It will fade, and I'll get used to it.">
She waited.
Nothing happened. No unusual feeling other than the burn. No strange emotions. Her thinking was clear, as far as she could tell, anyway....
Tentatively, she opened one eye. The other quickly opened in surprise. Her image stared back at her, mirroring the look of amazement. She held up her hand to the glass, to be sure she was truly looking at herself. The image mimicked her. She wasn't sure what she was expecting, but it hadn't been this.
At first she though her hair had turned white, like it did with the gypsum. But when she moved, it changed slightly. She realized that it was actually silver, like molten sterling. And her eyes....
"Wow..." she whispered. They were silver as well, like the polished blade of a sword. She blinked, and leaned closer. They also looked.... familiar.....
Hunter was directed to the danger room and was at the door soon enough. Stopping to compose himself he stepped inside. What he saw took his breath away. Paragon was standing in front of a full length mirror, looking at the change the clear gem had wrought. Her hair was like quicksilver, but here eyes, her eyes were what captured him.
She had his eyes. He’d never seen her looking so beautiful.
This time he didn’t want to startle her, so consciously took heavier steps than normal so he could be heard. “Wow,” he said as he came up alongside her, “you look amazing. Of all the gems this one looks the best.” And she would feel the best, she would be herself.

Iris looked up at Hunter's reflection as he came up beside her, tensing slightly for a moment. "I'm sorry for sneaking out. I didn't want anyone to get hurt. I know you said you can heal fast. But I just wanted to be sure." Now that she'd said it aloud, she felt somewhat silly for worrying. Nothing had gone wrong yet. Of course, she still didn't know what this mutation was, either.
“Wow, you look amazing. Of all the gems this one looks the best.” Now she realized why her eyes looked so familiar. Standing next to her like that, he could have easily passed for her brother.
"Thank you." She smiled, pleased to notice that she wasn't embarrassed at the compliment. In fact, she was fairly confident with herself at the moment. "I wonder what it does?"
Well, her hair was silver.... Maybe it controlled metal? Or possibly glass? Tentatively, she reached out to touch the mirror, trying to see if she could feel a connection with either the glass or the metal frame.
Hunter waved aside her apology. He couldn’t help but marvel at her. It was incredible. She seemed to almost radiate power. Each of the five mutant he had captured to turn into the gems had been powerful, and more Paragon was imbued with all their abilities.
“So, how do you feel?” he asked. He wasn’t sure what she should feel, but at least she wasn’t feeling the effects on her mind that the other gems had. That alone made all this worth it. if this was to be his final gift to her, it would be a fitting parting gift.

How did she feel?
Hmm... How did she feel?
She tilted her head slightly, considering it. "Well, I think I'm all right..." She felt a bit more confident than usual, though not as much as with the onyx or gypsum. She didn't feel angry or frustrated, both emotions that none of the other gems affected. Her mind seemed to be clear. None of her other senses seemed heightened, or dulled. She shrugged slightly. "Nothing feels out of kilter, yet."
She still had her hand on the mirror frame. Nothing was happening with the metal, nor with the mirror. She turned to face Hunter, her expression slightly confused. With her attention distracted, she didn't notice that the frame was slowly becoming chilled. Frost spread from beneath her fingers, inching its was up the metal.
While Hunter had been confidant in Dr Ingam’s word that there would be no ill effects, to hear Paragon say it out loud made it all the more real. He masked his true level of excitement and settled for a pleased smile. He cast a glance back to the mirror and saw the expanding ice.
“Look,” he said gesturing to the rapidly freezing mirror. That was one gems power, he wondered how long it would be until the others manifested themselves. He couldn’t let on that he knew what the gem would do, so would have to play dumb until she found out herself.
