The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Keeping up the reassuring smile Hunter answered her question. “Yeah, it seems that when opal is active you create a storm of sound around you, like a continuous noise that seems to change when you get angry. You got some dust in your eye and the storm got louder before you scattered the dust with a blast.”
He was thinking of what to say next when her stomach growled. Grinning he stood up and extended a hand to help Paragon up. “Can’t do this on an empty stomach,” he mock scolded, “Come on, lets go grab something to eat.”

“Can’t do this on an empty stomach. Come on, lets go grab something to eat.”
Iris paused briefly for taking the proffered hand. Her blush deepened ever so slightly, a reaction that had nothing to do with her growling stomach. "Um, thank you..."
She motioned awkwardly for him to go first. Since she was, in effect, grounded to her room, her last few meals had been delivered to her. She wasn't sure if that still applied, so she figured she'd best just follow his lead.
"Um, any word on Nail or Jack yet? Or the others?" She tried not to sound impatient, but after having made mini sculptures of them all the night before, and taking a picture for record, she'd been anxious for news. Though she doubted he would have found out so quickly, she figured she could hope anyway.
Hunter led Paragon off towards the dinning room. “Tricity’s taken everyone out for the day,” he explained, “so we have the run of the mansion.” Leading paragon to the dinning room he motioned for her to sit. “Now I’m a decent chef, what would you like?” he asked.
Back when she was younger he had cooked for them all the time, but since closing the project down he’d done very little. He’d been Michelin Star quality chef at the time, but his lack of practise for fifteen years had probably brought him down some what. Still, he was confidant that he could make them a passable lunch.

“Tricity’s taken everyone out for the day, so we have the run of the mansion.”
"Oh... Everyone? Okay...." Iris nodded understanding. However she couldn't keep the somewhat disappointed cast from her features.
“Now I’m a decent chef, what would you like?” She shrugged at Hunter's question, suddenly not as hungry as she had been a few minutes ago.
"Whatever's easiest, I guess..." She sat down, but only for a moment, before rising again and heading for the coffee pot. She filled the water up for ten cups, but put enough grounds in the filter for twice that much, aiming for an overly strong brew. While it brewed, she moved around gathering other things like milk, sugar, and an ice tray out of the freezer. Then she pulled a stool over to the counter, leaned on her hands, and sighed heavily. She glanced over at Hunter, her eyes weary, even though she wasn't physically tired.
"I'm not picky. Sandwiches of some sort would be fine. Unless there's something you want?" It was more of a question actually. "I never cooked much at home. Never had time. Or never made the time, I guess is a better way of saying it."
She paused, looking down again, lost in her thoughts. After a few moments, she shook her head. Taking a deep breath of the coffee scent steadily filling the kitchen, she attempted to smile at Hunter. "So, you're a councilor, trainer and cook, huh? Is there anything you don't do?"
Hunter decided that a quick sandwich would fit the bill and started pulling out various ingredients. Picking up a knife he began deftly slicing with the skill of someone who has used blades for a very long time. He smiled back at Paragon before answering, “I can’t juggle.” Which was true, he’d never bothered to learn. With his hand eye co-ordination he could learn it quickly, but had never seen the point.
Finishing his preparations he placed the sandwiches on plates and handed one to Paragon. “We wont use the opal gem again,” he said, “I needed to be sure that there were no side effects with it, but that’s the last time I’ll ask you to use the opal gem. Instead we’ll focus on the others.”

“I can’t juggle.” That made her smile genuine.
"How tragic," she replied.
As she watched him use the knife, a feeling of deja vu sent a tingle down her spine. Surprised, she glanced around. The feeling vanished. "That was odd...," she murmurrerd under her breath, and rubbed the back of her neck reflexively.
Once the coffee finished, she filled the blender with ice, sugar and millk, added half of the coffee, and turned it on briefly, then tasted it. It was stronger than she'd anticipated; she blinked and her eyes widened momentarily, and she smiled happily. "Mmm! Want one?" she asked, pouring herself a glass. She thanked him for the food, and began nibbling.
“We wont use the opal gem again. I needed to be sure that there were no side effects with it, but that’s the last time I’ll ask you to use the opal gem. Instead we’ll focus on the others.”
The relief that statement gave her was enough to make her hunger return, and she took a larger bite. It also showed in the look on her face.
"Thank you. What did you have in mind?" Despite recent happenings, she was fairly sure that those two she could handle. She'd been so focused on the opal and its possible effects, she hadn't yet considered that both Ice and Water could be every bit as dangerous as Sound, if she so wanted.
“Yes please,” said Hunter in answer to the coffee question. He could plainly see her relief upon hearing that she’d not need to use opal again. Taking a bite of his sandwich he swallowed before answering. “Well some training with ice and water first.”
“With the ice do you often make weapons?” he asked. If she did he would be able to help her improve her hand to hand combat skills, like he did with Kitra. Only, he’d be gentler with Paragon. From Crystal’s training video’s she seemed to like to utilise throwing daggers, something which he too was proficient in. Maybe he could have a little contest between them, see how good she really was.

Iris retrieved another glass and filled it for Hunter.
“Well some training with ice and water first."
"Liquids, actually," she corrected absently. "Not just water."
"With the ice do you often make weapons?”
She hesitated momentarily before setting the glass beside his plate. "Not really." She shrugged and sat down. "Not that it's hard. It's just.... I've never needed to, until recently. Though Crystal was trying to get me to do some combat training. For protection, when my body was reseting. We didn't get a chance to do too much though." After a short pause, she added, "My aim is pretty good though. Usually...." Then she blushed again as she recalled the 'water-in-the-face' incident from the previous day.
She cleared her throat and lowered her gaze, concentrating rather intensely on her food.
Control of liquids as well. That was something that Ian had never shown, but it’s quite possible that he was capable of it but had just never tried. He would have to test that on some unusual liquids, just to see what she could do.
“Good aim huh? Well mine isn’t bad, maybe we could have a little contest between us. As for learning some hand to hand stuff, we can combine that with the ice gem training. I’m skilled with any weapon you could make, so we can find one you like and teach you the best way to use it, as well as some unarmed stuff.”
He took another bite of his sandwich before taking a swig of coffee. It was now that he was beginning to wonder if this deception was a good idea, but if he hadn’t he doubted he would have had the chance to get even this close to her. When it came time to reveal the truth he would have to deal with her outrage, but for now he could just enjoy spending time with his daughter.

“Good aim huh? Well mine isn’t bad, maybe we could have a little contest between us."
Again Iris gave Hunter that over-the-glasses-type glance, the smile playing on her lips almost mischievous. She was very proud of her aim, and introverted or not, she had no issues showing it off when she had the chance. However, she simply nodded, and finished eating without a word.
"As for learning some hand to hand stuff, we can combine that with the ice gem training. I’m skilled with any weapon you could make, so we can find one you like and teach you the best way to use it, as well as some unarmed stuff.”
"All right." She attempted to hide her uncertainty by gathering empty dishes and glasses, and moving them from the sink to the dishwasher. She was still uneasy with learning to fight, in any form, but she couldn't argue that a little defensive training would be beneficial. She made another blender-full of the coffee frappe, covered it, and stuck it in the refrigerator, hopefully to be retrieved later.
------------------------------------
Back in the Danger Room, she closed her eyes and took a few moments to steady herself. Her hair and eyes went through their color switch. After her earlier test, this one didn't stress her out nearly as much, so this time the wisps of fog that usually formed from her breath didn't appear.
<"Okay, daggers first."> She looked around for a table or something similar. As she wasn't sure what he preferred to use, she simply began creating a collection of throwing instruments; throwing stars, daggers, throwing knives, etc.
<"Okay, find a weapon I'm comfortable with.... Yeah right....">
A frown crossed her face. After several heartbeats of thought, she held up both hands, and blew a light breath over them. The feeling tickled her hands, and a layer of frozen crystals formed over them. Concentrating, she put her palms together, then pulled them apart. The ice began to grow, stretch and bend, similar to taffy from a taffy-puller. Eventually it lengthened in a pike-type weapon, with a sharp spear-tip on one end and a scythe-type hook on the other. Repeating the process she created another, and leaned the two weapons against the wall. Then she shrugged and motioned to Hunter, as if to say, 'That's that. Now what?'
All of the ice objects were solid and heavy, but not as heavy as metal would be. As long as her power remained active, the ice would hold up under normal punishment, and not melt from normal body heat. When Crystal had tested her, her pike had stayed intact, even when slicing through metal. So Iris figured it should be strong enough for sparring as well.
“Ok, for starters let’s have a throwing contest,” Hunter said with a grin, “Here are the rules. Pick any ten of the throwing weapons you’ve made and try to hit this target,” as he spoke a target came up out of the floor, “from behind this line,” a line appeared twenty meters from the target.
“You only get points for hits inside the red circle,” the red circle was about two inches in diameter, “Which ever of us has the most points at the end wins. As the tradition goes, ladies first,” he said with a smile and motioned for Paragon to step up and have a go.
He remembered that she had had a good aim even when she was a child, and their water fights often ended with him very wet from various accurate shots. The fact that he was trying to retaliate with water balloons made it a rather one sided fight, but he always got in a few good hits. Although this was a little more serious he was keen to see how much his daughter’s accuracy had improved.

“Ok, for starters let’s have a throwing contest. Here are the rules. Pick any ten of the throwing weapons you’ve made and try to hit this target, from behind this line. You only get points for hits inside the red circle. Which ever of us has the most points at the end wins. As the tradition goes, ladies first.”
Iris listened carefully. The task wasn't easy. She smiled, a rarity when using the Ice Gem. She looked over the collection she'd made, and picked out three throwing knvives, two dagger, three four-pointed stars, and two three-pointed stars.
Since she was most familiar with the knives, she started with those. Moving to the mark, she guaged the distance briefly, adjusting her stance slightly, right foot behind left, and turned slightly. With only a brief pause in between to aim, she launched the slender, handleless blades. They landed just inside the red line of the target, dividing the circle into thirds. The left one was off target a bit, which made her flush slightly, but it was still inside the line.
<"It's just a target contest. Settle down,"> she told herself.
She switched her grip on the first dagger to the tip of the blade, and tried for a bull's eye, but it twisted wrong and landed outside the target. She huffed, a wisp of cold air visible in the air. She shifted for the second, and landed on target. She smiled happily at that one.
A new problem presented itself; the target was overcrowded, the open areas thinly spaced now. Iris bit her lip, considering what to do. The stars were the ones she wasn't as familiar with; they tended to curve when she threw them. She tried with the four-pointers first. One of them curved out when her wrist snapped, and landed way outside of the target. The second landed right on the red line, just next to the off-center, smaller knife. The third would have hit the target area had it been less crowded. As it was, the force of the throw stuck the star in the edge of the dagger.
The three-pointers she'd never used before, but figured the same technique as the four-pointers applied. She lined up and spent some time aiming this time. One landed out, while the second slid just along side the dagger, just shy of a bull's eye.
She sighed, and shrugged, though still smiling. "Well, it's not the best, but I guess it'll work. Your turn."
Hunter watched as Paragon launched the knives with the air of someone who knew what they were doing. The first dagger went awry, but she corrected and hit with the second. As soon as she held the throwing stars he knew she had not had as much practise with them as she had the knives. He was proved right when the first star went far off target. The second just hit and the third hit one of the weapons already in the target area. Seeing as it wasn’t technically a miss he decided to give her the point for that. Finally came the three pointed throwing stars. It didn’t look like she’d had much practise with these at all, as she took the time to aim. The first missed, but the second was on target.
“Good,” he said with a smile, “seven out of ten is not bad at all, especially considering the size of the target.” He went and collected the weapons and decided that he would use them rather than select a different bunch. Holding the knives in one hand, the hilts between his fingers giving him the impression of having claws, he hung his hand by his side. With a snap of his arm the three flew into the target. On hit dead centre and the others either side just shy of the line, forming a horizontal line.
Next he held a dagger in each hand by the hilt. Tossing them up lightly in the air he grabbed the points and flung them at the target. The landed above the line of knives, horizontally level with one another and together with the knives they formed the letter M is you joined them up. Holding a three pointed star in each hand he held his arms out horizontally to his side. Snapping them across his chest he released the stars, which impacted in the same positions below the knives as the daggers had above.
Only the four pointed stars were left, and he picked up one in each hand. Whirling his arms forward he released them one after another, each landing directly above and below the central knife and forming a diamond with the other weapons with a dagger in the centre. Holding up the final throwing star he twirled it around and focused on the centre knife. Spinning to face Paragon he gave her a wink before flinging the star over his shoulder. It imbedded itself in the central knife.
“I win,” he said with a grin, “that means that you have to make dinner.”

With Hunter's first throw, Iris smiled. She'd never been able to do a multiple throw with such a small target. A larger one she could manage, but not one this size. She was impressed.
With the second throw, she blinked. <"Hmm...">
With the third throw, her smile faded. <"Wow...">
Throw four, and her jaw dropped slightly.
Throw five, and he turned and winked at her. Before the throw!
“I win. That means that you have to make dinner.”
She stared at him, slack-jawed. Finally she covered her mouth with one hand, crossing the other over her chest. " 'Not bad aim', huh?" she finally managed to say, repeating what he had said earlier. She was doing her best to keep from smiling, but wasn't completely succeeding. That, and her face was bright red under the frost. "Remind me never to bet against you....".
Arms still, sort of, crossed, she motioned toward the weapons in a 'Come here' gesture. The ten objects shuddered slightly, then pulled themselves out of the wall, and returned through the air to the table with the others. It wasn't much of a show, but helped her redeem a bit of her balance and dignity.
"Okay, but I'm warning you, my cooking isn't exactly gourmet..." More like finding the nearest phonebook and ordering pizza or chinese.
