The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Daria rolled her eyes slightly at his first comment but his second comment hit home.
"I knew it." she said evenly. "Yeah, it definitly takes a fool to not be creeped out when his girlfriend has cat claws and fangs and everyone thinks she killed her parents."
"If he really knew you, he wouldn't believe something like that. And normally you'd have to do something to deserve being introduced to claws or teeth." Mike shook his head sadly. "Maybe it does bear saying. You're beautiful, Daria. Outside and inside... and I should know, I can see both."

Daria was silent for a while. She wanted to talk about that whole ordeal with her parents about the wanted posters about what having Sean and all of her friends leave her did to her mentally and emotionally. But it was just not possible. So she did something she hadn't done since she met Mike, she used her resistance.
Upon raising that wall she could feel her conciousness confronting his and, as a result of that power, his intentions and nauture-all harmless- were revealed. It made her feel worse for pushing him back but she couldn't allow this sort of nakedness so she pushed harder.
"It wasn't his fault," she said concentrating still. "Sean was like everyone else-he didn't understand mutants. As far as he was concerned we were all evil and not the same people. We were freaks. So maybe he grieved when he found out but the next time I saw him it was about six months later and he was walking hand in hand with another girl. I didn't mean to snap-i didnt control my powers back then. I had...rage issues." she snuggled closer to Mike. "Next thing I know i teleported in front of him grabbed him and teleported us to the roof of this tenement building. He was so scared and then I told him who I was and took off my hood and my shades." she trailed off to catch her breath, resisting the telepathy wasn't something she practiced regularly and it took more energy than she realized. She just wanted to get through the story with out showing any more than she wished-even though she knew Mike wasn't trying to read her mind. "He got freaked out." she finished.
Mike felt that maybe he'd gone too far in prodding her, and had backed off his mind from hers as soon as she resisted. Now wasn't the time to speak, it was the time to listen. So he just held her while she spoke, absently brushing her braids as he listened.
Then, as he finished, he nodded slowly. "It's not fair, is it?" he asked quietly. "I remember after the first few fights I got into, I thought this was some sort of bad joke on God's part."

Daria felt him move away so she dropped her resistance. She then noticed a slight light headedness-as if her mind was empty. It then crossed her thoughts that Mike had been in there all day, she'd hardly had to speak. She felt like she's taken her warm coat off in the middle of a wnter storm and emptyness rushed in like cold air.
"No, its not fair at all. I really want my old life back, and all of my old friends...No offense" Daria said glancing at Mike. At the moment if she could've had her old life back she might have asked to bring Mike along.
Mike nodded. "I know... I used to be my father's favorite, I miss that sometimes. My brother and I used to do everything together... now he hates me. Hell, I used to have a family, now..." he shrugged, "Life happened, I guess."

Daria felt the anger well up inside of her again as she was reminded of first realizing what had happened to her.
"Life didn't happen, Mike. Or else everyone would be a mutant. It's some kind of curse." she blinked, still leaning her head against his chest. "It's so wrong..I used to be so happy." she unsheathed her claws on her right hand for a minute then retracted them. "I mean, why me?"
Mike shrugged sadly. "I gave up asking that a long time ago. Maybe it's to give us a chance to be something more than we would have been. Maybe it's because if this didn't happen to us, it would happen to someone else who would make bad, bad things happen." He looked down at the mansion and shrugged. "Maybe it's because if it didn't happen, neither one of us would be right here right now."
He looked down and caught Daria's gaze, a sad, thoughtful look in his blue eyes. "Almost every day it pisses me off that the life I was getting ready for got stolen from me. The only thing I've found that I can do is hold onto the hope that the life I got out of the deal will be better than the one I was heading for."

"That....that was beautiful" Daria said. She decided Mike was right. She had been keeping the thought of super powers synonomous with comic books and super heroes. The shock that came with actually having them wasn't prepared for in grade school. And when she thought about it, had she survived the accident without a mutation where would she be now? Yes she would've been happy but she would've been cramped in an art school probably. And an art career wasnt the most promising future. She relayed these particular thoughts for Mike to see.
"There aren't that many dragons in art school." She said. "Or cute blonde guys who can fly" she smiled and leaned over to give him another kiss on the cheek.
"And something tells me that I'm going to be better off NOT becoming a soulless lawyer like my father, his father, his father's father... you get the point." He leaned in to kiss her cheek back.

Daria smiled and then laughed. "Not all lawyers are souless...I mean, I had an uncle who was a lawyer. He used to be mad cool...then he walked into that church and caught fire." she laughed at her own joke.
Mike laughed too. "The key word was 'like my father'. I dunno, though... supposedly I have an uncle who's a priest, but he's spent the last two decades of his life trying to exorcise the demons that obviously possess my lawyer-ridden family."

Daria laughed a bit harder this time, her tail switching back and forth. "what did you want to do with your life?" she asked suddenly sitting up in his arms to face him better.
Mike shrugged. "Always figured I'd be a lawyer like the rest of the men in my family, really. Grow up, go to law school, get married... in retrospect, it'd be more 'get married to someone I can walk all over, rarely see my family, yet try to rule them like a tyrant anyway,' given the example I had."

Mike was serious but Daria laughed again and playfully slapped him in the chest. "You could never turn out like that. I don't care what kind of example you had or what you've done since you got your powers. Like you told me, you're still you no matter what; and I don't think Mike was ever that type of person or ever could be."
