The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Lee was smiling when she was speaking, but Tarin knew that it was hard for her to not know what was going on. Having all of the information, being able to plan for every eventuality was something that was really important to Lee.
Tarin…had been a bit short-sighted in his plans when he thought about that, but everything had worked out so maybe it wasn’t so bad?
”Every so often, and not a total surprise.” He said with a matching smile, ”And full veto rights if you’re not feeling it?” Maybe that would help? Was this something where they could meet halfway?
Tarin knew it wasn’t a trust issue, and there wasn’t anything about it that he took personally. Besides, Tarin knew that Lee trusted him, and the point was proved further when she asked him if he was going to ask her to dance.
Yes. Yes he was. Picking up his napkin from his lap, Tarin dropped it back onto the table and stood, making his way around to stand next to Lee, ”Dance with me?” he said, smiling down as he held out his hand.

Tarin was going to give her full veto rights for the next time he planned something so she simply had to show up?
”I think I can handle that,” Lee replied. Even though she knew that Tarin would have changed tonight's plans if she'd asked. He had suggested, had offered, that they could do this dinner another night when she had been feeling very off because her siphoning kept stopping.
Lee didn't need Tarin to offer veto rights like that because he'd given her that, and more, from the start.
That's how she was able to trust him to do this, to plan things like this, without her being an anxious wreck.
And also why she could trust him to keep her from bumping into anyone when she was unable to feel where anyone was.
Lee's smile grew as she watched Tarin stand and move around the table.
”Dance with me?”
Lee was grinning happily as she raised her hand to place it in Tarin's as she stood up. ”I’d love to,” she said. And even if she would never have thought she'd say that a few minutes ago, Lee meant it completely.

”I’d love to.”
Lee took his hand and stood, and Tarin couldn’t help but take in her whole ensemble again from head to toe. If he was being honest, Tarin knew that it didn’t matter at all what Lee wore, she was always gorgeous…but there was just something about all of this effort just for him.
That line of thinking wasn’t getting them to the dance floor though so Tarin carefully led Lee through the tables and around the plants until they found themselves in an unoccupied area of the floor. The music was obviously louder now that they were closer but it wasn’t brash or obnoxious.
There were other people out there, but not enough that the space was crowded and everyone was just kind of casually moving with the music.
Realizing just how long it had been since he’d done this, some of Tarin’s prior confidence waned as he kept ahold of Lee’s hand and slid his other arm around her waist to pull her closer.
That accomplished, Tarin started to at least try to step with the music and smiled down at Lee for a moment before looking up to make sure that nobody else was coming too close.

Lee smiled at Tarin before he turned to lead her to the dance floor. And he did a good job weaving between all the obstacles, though things in front of her were rarely ever a concern even when she wasn't siphoning.
And before she knew it, they were on the dance floor. Tarin pulled her close, still holding her one hand, his other arm wrapping around her waist, and Lee placed her free hand lightly on Tarin's shoulder.
Then they were moving, swaying to the music which was much louder here. But still nowhere near as loud as the bar would be.
“See, easy…”
Lee smiled up at Tarin. ”Ok, maybe this was a good idea,” Lee said after a few moments. It really was rather nice. Much better than she had thought.

And then they were dancing. Well, sort of dancing. It was definitely better than the awkward dancing that people did in their teens, but it was also a far cry from what people who knew what they were doing did.
It didn’t matter. Tarin was absolutely thrilled and Lee was smiling up at him and saying that maybe this had been a good idea.
Smiling back down at Lee, Tarin said, ”I seem to be full of them tonight.”
Lifting his eyes again to check their surroundings for a moment, Tarin slowly started to turn them, feeling ambitious.
”For some reason I assumed you had done more of this.” he said, a bit sheepishly.

Was Lee as comfortable as she could be? No, and nowhere close to as comfortable as she would like to be. She never had been.
But at the moment, it wasn't bad.
”Quite a few tonight,” Lee agreed, still smiling. ”Though tonight is far from your only good ideas.”
And Tarin kept looking up, over her head. It was different than other times he'd done the same thing, like at the bar all those months ago when he was staring past her, over her head, as they were trying to finish their beers so they could leave.
Tarin wasn't trying to avoid looking at her like those other times because he kept looking down at her and smiling.
Then Lee realized what it was Tarin was doing. He was actually making sure to look around them.
To make sure that Lee didn't bump into anyone.
Lee's smile widened slightly as Tarin started speaking again.
”Oh, me dancing,” Lee asked even though Lee knew that was exactly what Tarin had been asking. ”No, not really. I was taught enough to middle my way through a two step. I missed most of the school dances, and dancing at bars on my own was a sure fire way for my night to turn toward unwanted and unwelcome attention.”

Tonight was far from his only good idea? Tarin looked at Lee quizzically and tried to figure out what she could mean. ”Like what?” he said, plainly curious and not fishing for compliments as they swayed and Tarin tightened his arm around Lee’s waist just slightly to pull her a little closer. He did not often think of himself as an idea guy, not any more than he thought of himself as a dancer.
Lee, as it turned out, had learned to two step a bit and Tarin had chuckle a little as he pictured her moving through the steps ”I know someone tried to teach me at some point…” he said, unable to remember who exactly it had been and why. ”I can’t remember though…”
From there it didn’t get better. Lee knew about the single dance that Tarin had gone to before he’d left home, and once he’d gotten to New York there had been no dancing whatsoever, not even after he’d gotten away from the group.
The last thing Lee said had Tarin’s eyes darting back down to hers from the sweep they’d just been doing across the floor, ”I’d almost feel sorry for anyone who made that mistake if they weren’t creeps.” Tarin said.

Lee smiled when Tarin questioned what other good ideas that he has had. "Roommates, a picnic, baseball…" Lee listed out as softly as she could with the music playing nearby. Though she had been very hesitant about the baseball to start with, it was true that Lee thought those were all very good ideas that had worked out well.
And they had all been Tarin's. Completely.
It made sense that Tarin had been taught, or at least attempted, but that he hadn't really learned how to two step with how young he had been when he left home.
But that was fine. Despite the fact that she had first learned it over a decade ago, and that Josh had even dragged taken her on the floor for a couple dances the last time she had been down in Texas, Lee was really no more comfortable on the dancefloor than she had been before learning.
"Most of those times were before I knew even a fraction of what I was capable of," Lee admitted. Which was true. But she still didn't put up with creeps. "So I'm not sure I dealt with them in the way you're probably thinking."

It was still embarrassing that the roommates thing had been his idea, despite the fact that it had all worked out so well. Oh well, Tarin figured he could blame it on his altered mental state at the time and try to let it go.
The other two things that Lee brought up had been Tarin’s idea and he was very pleased by the fact. The picnic had been an excellent idea. ”We should do another picnic now that Kevin is home.” they’d had a good time and they’d managed to throw the ball around a little. It was getting to the time of summer that was hot though. Picnics weren’t always so nice when it was hot.
And baseball had made the list of his good ideas? What could he do besides smile at that.
Lee pointed out that her previous bar dancing days had been long enough ago that she hadn’t necessarily been able to handle things the way she did now.
”Something tells me that you still managed…” he said, ”Even if you shouldn’t have had to.”
Tarin was frankly impressed with them. They were doing all of this talking while they were dancing and they hadn’t stepped on each other, tripped, or ran into anyone else. The last was at least in part to the fact that Tarin was still watching the floor around them. It was getting a bit more crowded, but they were sticking to the perimeter. This was nice, and a for a few minutes, Tarin was just quiet and and enjoyed it all for what it was.
”Thank you.” he said as the current song came to an end, ”Another, or do you want to go sit back down?”

Another picnic? Lee smiled wider at the idea. "We should. Kevin will pretend he doesn't want to, but I know he had a decent time even before his powers showed up last time."
Even though Kevin wouldn't ever say it out loud, Lee knew he had because he had actually been willing to play catch with the gloves Tarin had bought.
Tarin was sure that she had been able to manage dealing with creeps even when she was much younger. "Well, yeah, I did," she said. "I was definitely not as confident doing it, though."
They continued dancing in silence then until the song ended, at which time Tarin actually thanked her for the dance. It was unexpected enough that the slightest blush started to cover her cheeks as she looked up at Tarin. "I think you could convince me to have another dance," she informed him with a smile.

Of course Kevin would act like he didn’t want to go on a picnic, it was like a contractual obligation at this point, ”Maybe we can see if that Zack kid wants to go too. At least then maybe he’d unglue himself from his phone for a while.” Tarin also had to admit he was curious about Kevin’s friend. Either way, it was an idea.
And, as expected, Lee had managed to handle creeps at the bar on her own, apparently just not as confidently as she did now. That brought up the memory of her absolutely humiliating that asshole at the bar the night they’d hung out with Matt and Rachel and Tarin had to grin. If he’d had to bet, Tarin wouldn’t have put money on Lee being equally impressive in a different way back then.
The song was ending though, and Tarin couldn’t help but notice the light flush on Lee’s cheeks when he thanked her for the dance. He’d assumed that at that point Lee would be ready to be done and was pleasantly surprised when she said he’d be able to convince her to go another round. The music was starting again, and was still slow enough that it was easy to get right back into the proper swaying rhythm.
”I’d have never guessed it’d be so easy to make you blush.” Tarin said after another couple of moments of silence. Turning them again so that the floor was a bit easier to see

Lee nodded as Tarin suggested that they invite Zack to the picnic. "We can definitely do that," Lee agreed. "We could have a bit of a problem if you wanted to play catch again. I don't think Zack has a glove."
Though, Lee thought, if it came to it, Zack could always use her glove if the three guys all wanted to play catch together.
To be honest, though, the longer that they were out there on the dancefloor, the more Lee was starting to enjoy it. Nevermind how uncomfortable and nervous the thought of dancing had made her to start with.
As they started dancing again, Lee looked up at Tarin with a smile. That was quickly joined by a slightly darker blush. "Well, I'm not generally so easy to make blush," Lee said softly as he eeys dropped for a moment before looking back up at Tarin. "Not with most people."

”What is it with kids today?” Tarin said, shaking his head. Kevin hadn't had a ball glove either. ”I know you’d be devastated to miss out on catch, but maybe he could borrow your glove if need be.” he said, pretty sure that Lee would be willing to make the sacrifice.
The second song was moving along nicely now and Tarin was really starting to relax into the music and the dancing. Lee seemed more comfortable than she had been before too, she even smiled when he teased her about her blushing.
Apparently Lee didn’t blush all that often, at least not with most people and Tarin just kept smiling down at her.
”So what you’re saying is that I’m special.” he said, just a little smugly, ”And it’s okay, you’re very cute when you blush.”

Lee shrugged slightly when Tarin questioned the kids. "I don't know. Maybe it is more of a difference between the two worlds?" Lee asked. Because while her brothers played baseball, Lee didn't really remember any of Kevin's friends, either in Toronto or New York, playing baseball.
Tarin seemed to share her thought about what to do if Zack wanted to play catch with them but didn't have a glove. "Well, if he's that desperate to play catch with you, I might manage to survive giving up my glove for the afternoon," Lee told him.
As the second song continued, Lee noticed that Tarin seemed to be relaxing more, as well. Even though this had been his idea in the first place, he had apparently been tense out here as well. Something Lee hadn't noticed before, probably because of how uncomfortable she had been between the dancing and not siphoning. J
But then Tarin commented about how he made her blush so easily when normally she didn't. Of course he was special. There were so many things that would never have happened if he wasn't special.
That didn't mean that Tarin had to sound so smug about it, and Lee was about to playfully tell him off when he continued speaking. "I am not," she said even as she blushed darker still.

Lee pointed out that maybe it was a difference between worlds that explained the seeming lack of interest in baseball. Tarin blinked for a minute, he hadn’t even thought about the possibility…
There was no way for Tarin to know either because after he’d left Texas he hadn’t been around anyone playing baseball until he was an adult.
Maybe she was right though.
She was also willing to let Zack use her glove. So that problem was solved.
Tarin fully expected Lee to put him in his place after he had called her cute. She generally really didn’t enjoy that but instead she just blushed more and protested that she was not cute.
”You are many many things Lee, and one of them is absolutely cute.” he said, taking a moment to once again check the dance floor. They were still good.
”But you’re also smart, capable, strong…” he said, bringing his eyes back down to hers, ”Painfully gorgeous.” he could have gone on, but Tarin knew how uncomfortable effusive praise made Lee and he didn’t want to push too far.
