The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The way that Lee said she’d have to remember that Tarin had a good poker face suggested to him that she didn’t think he had a good poker face at all.
Lee had always had an almost uncanny ability to know what Tarin was thinking or feeling and there had been a number of times that she had called him out on things that he’d been carefully trying to keep from her.
At least when it came to things more important than baseball.
Tarin decided that he didn’t really care if Lee knew his tells though, in fact it was nice to have someone who knew things without him even having to explain some of the time.
Lee also agreed about the moon, but wasn’t sure how people figured out when things like that were going to happen.
”I’m sure we can look it up online.” He responded, ”Between the astronomers and the astrologists, surely someone knows something. It’s worth doing the work…” he added with a smile.
”Because adding a huge moon to the landscape might just make this the second most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

Tarin had a good point about being able to look it up online. Well, they most likely could find it. Between Tarin's habit of going down rabbit holes and her being bored when she couldn't sleep, they were bound to be able to find something out.
Tarin continued speaking, saying that with one of those huge moons reflecting in the water with the buildings here at night, that it might be the second most beautiful thing he'd seen.
Ever.
Lee blushed even as her mind raced to argue that it couldn't possibly be what it sounded like. Tarin had grown up with the Texas sunrises and sunsets. He had spent countless hours in libraries, and some of those buildings themselves were gorgeous. He said he had gone to a bunch of museums and art galleries when he first got to this side of the rift.
There had to be multiple things on that list that were more beautiful.
But Lee was still blushing as she looked up at Tarin. "The second?"

It was too dark to see, but Tarin had a sneaking suspicion that if he’d had a little bit more light he would have been able to see a blush on Lee’s cheeks.
Tarin honestly didn’t think he could be more clear about how he felt about Lee if he tried, and she still almost never believed him until he reiterated the point. Sometimes several times.
”Yep,” he said, letting the word hang for a few long moments as his smile widened.
”Because it’s gonna be hard to top that dress, or that outfit you wore to the bar, or some of that running gear, or how you look in my hat.” the list really could go on and on, but Tarin figured he had made his point by now. Again he knew he was being a bit over the top, but on a night like this, in a place like this Tarin decided it was his prerogative.
”Still, add in the moon and this might be a close second.”

"Yup."
Lee just blushed brighter as Tarin continued speaking. She knew that she was good looking and attractive; she would have had to be blind to have not noticed the looks over the years. She could even accept that Tarin thought she was 'painfully beautiful'.
But how could she have been the most beautiful thing he had ever seen?
By the time that he was finished, Lee's bottom lip had found its way between her teeth as she looked up at Tarin, still blushing deeply. "That you've ever seen?" Lee asked in a whisper. "You've really never seen anything more beautiful than me? In your entire life?"

”Is that bad?” Tarin asked, frowning slightly now as he looked down at Lee in the dark, trying to gauge her reaction and figure out if he’d made some kind of misstep.
”I mean…yeah,” he said, a bit embarrassed now, trying to sort things out and not further make a mess, ”All of this is great. It’s peaceful here, and I could sit and look at it for hours and not need to leave.”
He paused for another moment, ”It’s not gonna look back though.” he said finally, a bit frustrated at how little sense that was probably going to make.n
”I’m sorry…” he added, ”I’m not very good at this…”

Was it a bad thing, that he thought that about her? Well…no, not really. It was just …She had trouble believing that Tarin had never seen anything more beautiful than her ever before.
But Tarin was trying to explain, telling her that this view wouldn't look back. Because somehow that put her higher on the list.
Tarin seemed to be getting frustrated now, though, and Lee pulled one arm from around him and lifted her hand up to his cheek. The blush was still covering her cheeks but Lee smiled up at Tarin.
"It's not a bad thing," Lee whispered as she looked up at him. "Surprising, yes, that out of every single thing you've seen in your life, you think I'm the most beautiful. Because god…this view is gorgeous," Lee said with a glance over at the water before looking back at Tarin. "I especially wouldn't think that when I'm running or wearing your hat."
Then Lee used her hand on Tarin's cheek to help pull him down a bit as she leaned up to kiss him. "If I haven't said it tonight," she murmured against his lips. "I love you too."

Lee was smiling now, at least, but Tarin knew that he hadn’t done the best job explaining what he was feeling.
He wanted to explain more, but Lee reached up and put her hand on his face and Tarin just sighed as he listened to her. In the not so distant past, this was the part where he’d have found an excuse to move away or break the contact. There were too many things swirling around inside of him and it was quickly getting overwhelming.
Lee just didn’t see how it was possible, but it seemed to make perfect sense to him. Yes, he’d been honest when he’d said twice tonight that Lee looked so good it almost hurt to look at her, but that wasn’t the whole story by a long shot. Lee had gotten dressed up like that for him. Same with the night at the bar. She ran with him in the mornings. She hated hats, but she tolerated his for him. Sure, when it came down to it, Lee would have never done any of those things if she hadn’t wanted to…but it still mattered.
Tarin followed the light pressure from Lee’s hand and leaned down to kiss her back and as she spoke he tightened his arms around her a little bit more. When the kiss ended he didn’t go far, resting his forehead against Lee’s, leaning into the whole situation instead of pulling back.
”One day I’ll figure out how to explain…” he whispered, ”But it’s so much more than how you look…”

When Tarin just rested his forehead against hers rather than pulling back after the kiss, Lee smiled wider. She wasn't sure why, but she loved when he stood with her like this. Though this time it was too dark to actually see his eyes.
Though, Tarin couldn't explain any better than he'd tried, he said that one day he would.
"Well, I hope you love me for more than just my looks," Lee teased. Which of course Lee knew. His reactions to seeing her walk out after getting ready to go out were just a bonus.
But after a minute, Lee sighed. "We should probably think about heading home," she said softly.

Tarin knew Lee was teasing, but it still bugged him that he couldn’t properly describe what he was trying to get across.
It wasn’t worth ruining a practically perfect night though. Lee was just going to have to be a bit confused and Tarin was just gonna have to be a little embarrassed and frustrated. He could add it to the list.
It would have probably been easy to stand there all night like they were, and Tarin wasn’t going to move until Lee did. A short while later though, she sighed and said it was probably time to head home.
Stepping back reluctantly, but keeping ahold of Lee’s hand, Tarin looked back out at the pond one more time. It really was something special and they would have to come back.
”You’re probably right.” he said, turning his eyes to the tree line before looking down at Lee again.

When Lee said that they should think about heading home, Tarin pulled back from their embrace and Lee let her hands fall back down to her sides. Though Tarin caught one of them and kept hold of it while he looked back over the lake again.
It really was an amazing sight.
Much sooner than Lee was ready for, despite the fact that she had been the one to mention leaving, Tarin was asking her if she was ready. She was most certainly not ready.
Still, Lee nodded her head as she let go of Tarin's hand. "Yeah, let's go home," she said.
