The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Weekends in Central Park were awesome. Sure, there tended to be a lot of tourists sometimes, and when it was hot it could be kind of awful, but there weren’t too many tourists today and it wasn’t really hot yet.
That was why Tarin had suggested a picnic. That and another few other reasons that were tucked neatly away in the backpack he was wearing as he, Lee, and Kevin made their way to one of the flat, grassy areas that dotted the park.
They’d been watching a lot of baseball lately, much to Tarin’s delight, and Kevin had even started joining in for most of the games. A little Q&A and Tarin had found out that Kevin didn’t have a ball glove. You simply couldn’t been a teenage boy in New York City without a ball glove, so Tarin had gotten him one. He’d also gotten Lee one, but whether or not she actually used it was going to remain to be seen. Despite the fact that she was the one who put the game on as often as he was, she still liked to act like she hated the sport.
Still. There were gloves in the backpack, gloves that had already been oiled and had been sitting in the closet at the shop for a few days rubber banded with baseballs inside of them so they’d be soft and ready to use. Regardless of what ended up happening that day, the three of them were going to spend the day at the park.
They even had a little picnic packed in the cooler that Tarin was carrying. Lee had even brought her guitar.
Tarin was excited and there was even a nice patch of grass in the shade by a tree to spread out the blanket they had brought.
”This was a great idea.” . Tarin said as he dropped the backpack and the cooler on the blanket and sat down.

Lee was realizing that she was very quickly running out of time with Kevin at home. Before too long, he was going to be heading off to Texas to see his grandmother and other family. It wouldn’t be much longer after he came home from that trip that Lee would be helping him move to the mansion. And while he really wouldn’t be that far away, Lee couldn’t stop herself from worrying. Yes, she could pretend to everyone else that she was fine, but the fact remained that Kevin hadn’t spent a single night without being with herself or Rachel in the last 6 years except for the times she had gone to Texas without her.
So Lee was very happy when Tarin suggested that they head to the park for a picnic. It had actually been a couple years since Lee had managed to get Kevin to go for a picnic in a couple of years, so Lee was glad when her son grudgingly agreed without too much fighting or complaining.
Lee had also decided that she would bring her guitar with them. She had told Tarin during the open mic night at the bar, a night that now felt like it was ages ago, but in reality hadn’t even two months earlier, that she would play more often. Yet, she really hadn’t been.
And so through the park they walked, Lee having chosen a casual, knee length dress for the day carrying her guitar case, Tarin with the cooler and a backpack.
And Kevin slowly following behind texting his friends. Lee could only assume complaining about having to come out for a picnic.
They had even managed to find an empty, shaded expanse of grass somehow.
”This was a great idea.”
Lee smiled over at Tarin as she set her guitar down. ”It really is,” Lee agreed, then looked over to Kevin, who was leaning against the nearby tree. ”What do you think, Kev?”

Lee seemed just as happy about the location that Tarin had found as he was and that made him even happier than the initial discovery. He hadn’t been able to figure it out yet, but Tarin knew there was something up with Lee. She absolutely hadn’t said anything, she hadn’t even really done anything, but something seemed just the slightest bit off. Le didn’t want to talk about it though, so Tarin hadn’t mentioned it either.
Kevin was…doing what teenagers do and playing on his phone, declaring that the spot was fine.
Tarin grinned at that, over at Lee, ”High praise!” he said, patting the blanket next to him and flipping open the cooler to grab a bottle of water.

Lee laughed slightly at Tarin’s comment about Kevin as she sat down close to Tarin. Close, but not so close that it was guaranteed to get an ‘eww mum’ comment from her son. It was highly likely to happen at some point that afternoon, but that didn’t mean she had to do it right off the bat.
”No I’m good,” Kevin said at the same time that Lee said ”But if he had anything right now, he wouldn’t be able to lean and fiddle on his phone.”
Smiling as she curled her feet up beside her, Lee glanced around at the park as she got more comfortable. It really was a gorgeous day out.
”Did you want to eat now?” Lee asked, looking back at Tarin after a minute. ”Or I can pull my guitar out, since you haven’t reminded me to play more often.” As she said that last bit, Lee poked Tarin in the shoulder.

Lee dropped down on the blanket next to him and Tarin just kept right on grinning.
Kevin did not want anything, that was fine…except that it kind of wasn’t with Lee. That was fine too. Tarin was Switzerland in this scenario.
Lee looked really pretty in her dress, even if that did bode even worse for the whole prospect of baseball, but if she was going to play or sing that was an excellent consolation.
Tarin accepted the poke in his shoulder with good humor because he really did deserve it, he’d done a terrible job of reminding Lee to play more.
”You should play.” he said, ”Because you’re right…I’ve done a terrible job.”

Lee laughed as she shook her head at Tarin. ”You’re the one who said terrible, not me,” she said before pulling her guitar case over and opening it up.
It really didn’t take long at that point for Lee to get the guitar situated on her lap and to start playing some random notes and chords as she tried to decide what to start with.
Looking up from the guitar and over to the tree, Lee called over to her son. ”Any requests, Kevin?” She really doubted that he’d suggest something, but there was always the chance that he’d decide to stop being a moody teen and actually interact with them.

Lee pointed out that he had been the one to use the word terrible and Tarin shrugged, ”Just being honest.”
Lee had her guitar out and Tarin settled in as she started to play some chords. The first time he’d watched her play had been at the bar and that night had been so much that he hadn’t been paying attention to how much work it was to play.
Lee asked Kevin if he had any suggestions and, of course, he didn’t.
Tarin didn’t have any suggestions either, he just wanted to watch and listen.

Of course Kevin didn’t have any suggestions or requests. Her music ‘sucked’ apparently, even though they both knew that she knew how to play at least a handful of songs that he listened to at least occasionally.
”Do you have something in mind?”
Turning to look at Tarin, Lee shrugged before her eyes dropped to the guitar. ”Not really,” she admitted softly. ”I’ll figure something out, though.”
Lee continued playing random notes for a minute before an actual melody emerged. And after a few moments of the guitar on its own, Lee started singing softly.
”Desperate for changing Starving for truth I'm closer to where I started I'm chasing after you…

Music had never been something that Tarin had really connected to. He’d never learned how to play an instrument or sing beyond the required things in school and he’d really only listened to music when he was running or it was on the radio in a place he was spending time.
It had always impressed him, though, how people could make music from nothing with an instrument or their voice.
Why hadn’t he been reminding Lee to play more?
Tarin didn’t know the song that Lee was playing, but it made him so happy to hear her play it and sing it.
The lyrics were something else too and Tarin stared at Lee the entire time that she played.
When she was done, Tarin was still grinning, ”I’m an absolutely fool, and you’re going to get absolutely sick of me asking you to play from now on.”

Lee only looked up from the guitar as she finished the song to see Tarin with a grin on his face. Just staring at her.
And she blushed slightly as she heard what he said about her playing. ”What?” she asked, glancing back down at the guitar again as she absently picked a few more notes out as an excuse to not have look at him as she was blushing. ”You’re going to ask me that often? she asked.
”Then I hope you play some better music if you’re going to play that much,” Kevin unhelpfully chipped in from his spot against the tree.
”Ok, so what songs do you want me to sing, Kev?”
”Mum, you don’t know any of my music.”
Lee just sighed and shook her head as she started picking out more notes, quickly developing it into a melody.
This intro was longer, and Lee definitely had to pay attention to her fingers more, but finally she started singing.
She's got a smile that it seems to me Reminds me of childhood memories Where everything was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face She takes me away to that special place And if I stared too long, I'd probably break down and cry”

”As long as there’s not a Mets game on.” Tarin said with a wink, not that Lee could see it since she was studiously looking anywhere but at him.
Kevin apparently didn’t share Tarin’s sentiment and point out that Lee needed better music to play. But then had less than zero suggestions as to exactly what that meant. The kid was really on one today.
”Maybe if you gave her some ideas she could learn though…” Tarin said with a grin that definitely did not receive an answer.
Lee was playing again though and this time Tarin did know the song even if he didn’t know all of the lyrics so he nodded along with the music and maybe even hummed along a little.
This probably wasn’t exactly Kevin’s type of music either though.
”You should show me…” Tarin said, nodding at the guitar, ”I couldn’t sing to save my life, but maybe you could teach me the basics…”

As long as there wasn't a Mets game. Lee shook her head,a smile on her face. ”Well, that will drastically cut down on how often you ask me to play, won't it? she said, because the always seemed to be a game on
Tarin seemed a little annoyed that Kevin wasn't interested with them much. Though to be honest, Lee was as well. But at least Kevin had come without much of a fight. Lee knew, well at least she hoped, that Kevin would open up more as the afternoon progressed.
As her voice drifted away at the end of the song, Lee glanced up at Kevin. And saw that he was actually looking up at her slightly, not lost in his phone. Lee smiled. She knew that that wasn't ‘his’ music because it was too old. But Lee also knew that he did listen to it.
Then she heard Tarin speak again and she looked over at him. ” You'd want me to?” she asked, her hands still not moving over the strings. ”I won't lie, I’m definitely better teaching piano. But I can try to, if you want me to.”

”Only from April until hopefully late October early November…” had to account for the playoffs.
Kevin did seem more interested in the second song even though it was way older and Tarin gave up trying to figure out teenagers in favor of easier problems like world peace.
Lee seemed open to the idea of showing him a thing or two on the guitar and he nodded, ”Might be fun. I’ve always thought music was cool, never really had a chance to pick anything up though.”
As for how good she was at teaching, ”It’s going to be like you’re teaching a toddler, so I can’t imagine I’ll be able to tell a thing about your skill level.”
Tarin couldn’t help but grin a little bit as an opening presented itself, ”Besides, as open as you’ve been to learning about baseball, what kind of person would I be if I couldn’t learn a few chords.”

Oh, so she only had until maybe October or maybe-
”November?” she asked, surprised. ”Doesn't it get a little cold? I know they have the roof in Toronto, but doesn't it get a little cold? Especially for a summer sport?”
Lee just smiled when Tarin said that teaching him to play the guitar might be fun. It certainly would give them something else to do at home other than watch TV or baseball or have really depressing talks about their past.
But when he continued, Lee burst out laughing. ”Like a toddler?” she asked before managing to stop laughing. ”So you're going to get distracted every two minutes and every time you see something shiny?”
Lee didn't think it would really be that bad, but it was just the thought
She was, however, about to stop laughing when he brought up her learning about baseball. ”Not intentional learning,” Lee said, directing a fake mad expression on her face at Tarin. ”It’s been on. I was bound to pick up something by osmosis.”
”Oh give it up already mum. You've had games on a few times for at least half an hour before Tarin gets home.”

”Definitely, but that’s only if they make the playoffs or the world series.” Tarin relented, ”Otherwise they’re done at the end of September. Probably wishful thinking this year.”
He’d been joking anyway.
It was kind of funny that Lee was surprised he’d want to do something like learn to play guitar. She took his self-deprecation in good humor though and he laughed when she teased him. ”I meant my level of skill with a musical instrument, but you might not be too far off there either.” This wasn’t the type of thing he could look up or search out at the library.
Lee was bound and determined to stick to her guns where baseball was concerned though, and Tarin might have considered conceding the point if Kevin hadn’t stepped in.
”Oh is that so…” Tarin said, as Lee called her son a traitor ”That seems like a bit more than passive knowledge. I’ll bet you know more than you let on. I told you that first game that I’d make a fan out of you.”
