The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Tarin didn’t miss the slight dip in Kevin’s smile when the teen said that he was sure how to stop whatever it was that he was doing.
Lee actually stepped back a little bit and Tarin moved forward, nodding, ” I think that what’s happening is your body and brain reacting to my terrible throw. The ball was going to hit you, so you did this super cool thing you’re doing without even knowing it.”
Stopping right where Lee had stood before, Tarin looked right at Kevin and said, calmly and casually, ”So, we just need to get everything back on the same page. What I want you to do is close your eyes and take a few slow, deep breaths. Try to breathe in for a count of 4, holding it for a count of 7, and slowly letting it out for a count of 8.” he said, ”And if that doesn’t work, no big deal, we will try something else.”
The most important thing here was keeping Kevin calm and happy.

Basically as soon as Lee had stepped to the side, Tarin was stepping closer to Kevin and was speaking to him.
And Lee couldn't help but smile as she heard what Tarin was saying. It was very cool, Lee agreed.
Then Tarin was standing right in front of Kevin where she had been, instructing him to take a slow deep breath.
Kevin closed his eyes and breathed as Tarin had directed. In and out a few times, and Lee could visibly see Kevin's body relaxing a little more each time.
After about four breaths, Kevin opened his eyes and looked at Tarin, then at Lee. ”Did it work?”
”Well how do you feel?” Lee asked him, the smile still on her face. ”Does anything feel different than it did a minute ago?”
Kevin stood there and thought for a moment. ”I’m not sure, mum,” he replied. ”Should it feel different?”
”Maybe, maybe not,” Lee told him. ”There’s really no way to know until you get used to it and then you’d tell us.” Lee stepped closer to her son again, reaching out a little more tentatively this time. But she didn’t hit any kind of resistance, so the moment her hand touched Kevin’s shoulder, Lee pulled him close for a hug.

The first time he took a breath, Tarin could almost see Kevin counting. That was too much concentration and it probably wasn’t going to work. Tarin was about to say something, but as soon as he finished the first time, Kevin set in on another breath. Not wanting to distract Kevin, Tarin didn’t say a word and just let the boy work through the breathing. It was great that he hadn’t just stopped after the first breath.
It took about four cycles through the breathing, but Tarin could see Kevin relaxing as he worked his way through, no longer counting as the breaths flowed into one another.
At that point Kevin opened his eyes and asked if it had worked.
Lee had things covered here and Tarin took a step back as she took a step forward, he couldn’t see anything anymore than he’d been able to see it before, but he had a feeling…
Lee reached out and her hand passed through the space that it had bounced off a few moments before and came to rest on Kevin’s shoulder. Then they were hugging and Tarin grinned.
”That was great Kevin. Now you know what to do when it happens again.”

Kevin only put up with the hug for a second, then he was trying to pull away. But Lee kept holding onto him.
”Mum! Stop, there are people around!” Kevin complained.
Lee continued the hug for another couple of seconds before pulling back to see that even though her son had been complaining about the hug, he still had a smile on his face.
”You did so good, Kevin,” Lee said, beaming at her son.
”Mum, Tarin, stop. It’s not that big a deal,” Kevin said, though Lee could see a bit of a blush on her son’s face.
Lee raised an eyebrow, but the smile was still on her face. ”Kevin, you’ve only wanted to get powers for as long as you’ve known what powers are. So now that you’ve finally got them, it’s very exciting.”

Kevin was protesting the hug from his Mom, but Tarin could see from the smile on Kevin’s face that he was still thrilled with the way the whole thing had worked out.
It was an incredibly cathartic thing for Tarin to see, there wasn’t an ounce of fear on Kevin’s face, just a mildly embarrassed blush as he tried to push what had just happened off as if it wasn’t a big deal. Kevin came by that blush honestly, Tarin couldn’t help but think, Lee seemed to blush at the slightest bit of praise.
Lee wasn’t about to let Kevin get away with that though and when she finished talking, Tarin nodded, ”Your Mom’s right though.” he said.

”But that doesn't mean you have to hug me in public, mum,” he said, glancing around now to see if anyone had seen.
Lee laughed and shook her head. ”But Kevin, embarrassing you is part of my job as your mother,” Lee teased before her face turned a bit more serious. ”But honestly, Kevin, you did great with that. I’m proud of you.”
She was also very happy, because this for Kevin was so much easier and less traumatic than it had been for both herself and his father. And even with the fact that Kevin had Lee, Rachel, and now Tarin supporting him, there had always been a chance that this could have been traumatic for Kevin.
”Oh! I need to tell Zack!” Kevin said, pulling out his phone. And his face gradually grew horrified as poked at his phone. ”My phone’s not working!”

Literally nobody was paying any attention to them, Tarin noticed as Kevin scanned the area to make sure nobody had seen him being hugged by his mother.
Tarin knew that if anyone had seen the hug, they wouldn’t have thought a single thing of it. That wouldn’t matter to 13 year old boy though, and Lee was more than capable of handling herself.
It was almost surreal how this just wasn’t a big deal. Tarin couldn’t help but think about how it had been vital for Tarin and those around him to not allow things like what had just happened to happen. In fact, the consequences for a slip up like Kevin had just had would have been swift and severe.
Thank God things were different here and now.
Pulled from his thoughts by Kevin’s horrified exclamation, Tarin couldn’t help but shake his head, ”That field shocked you, didn’t it Lee?” he said a moment later, ”Wonder if it fried the phone.” .

As Lee watched, Lee discovered something that was far more disturbing to a 13 year old boy than his mother hugging him in the middle of a busy park: a cell phone that suddenly and mysteriously would not work. Yet Kevin kept poking at it, pressing the power button in desperation.
Lee was hoping that the battery had just died on the phone; Kevin hadn’t been planning on coming to the park that afternoon, maybe it hadn’t been as charged as he needed it to be.
That was her hope even as Tarin was asking about the field that had stopped the baseball, if it had shocked her. Lee nodded slowly. ”Yes, it did,” she replied, then looked back at Kevin who was now staring at Tarin in horror.
”No, it couldn’t have done that, could it?” Kevin asked, his eyes darting between Tarin, Lee, and his phone. ”Mum, you know it’s not my fault the phone’s not working, right? I can get another, right?”
Lee groaned slightly as she ran her hand through her hair. ”This is going to get expensive, isn’t it?”

Whoops. Tarin realized that maybe he should’ve kept his musings to himself as Kevin stared at him in momentary horror at the suggestion that the field he’d made had fried his cellphone.
As Kevin protested his innocence and Lee bemoaned the cost of the potential damage to the phone, Tarin tried to think of some way he could help.
”Maybe the battery is just dead?” Tarin said a bit lamely, thinking that maybe he should have led with that instead of the nuclear option of the phone being fried. They wouldn’t know until they got home.
”I’m guessing we’re done playing catch for today.” he said, looking to Lee, ”What do you want to do?”

”Let's hope that’s all it is,” Lee said in response to Tarin’s far less drastic suggestion that maybe the battery was just dead. ”It definitely felt like an electrical shock, so maybe you got the energy for it from your phone, Kev.”
Which really did make sense to Lee now that she was thinking about it more. The two electricity users that Lee knew about Lori and the merged…thing she’d been part of during the breakout, both seemed to need to draw the electricity from outside of themselves, just as she did from her siphoning.
”So can we go home and check?” Kevin asked. He definitely seemed to be far more focused on his phone than on the fact that he had just gotten his powers, and Lee shook her head slightly.
”Let's eat first, since we did come out here for a picnic,” Lee answered Tarin, then gave Kevin a look when it appeared he was going to protest. ”You can survive one meal without your phone. And once we’re all done eating, we can head home and try charging your phone.”
Having said that, Lee started making her way back to the blanket. ”That shield of yours is pretty neat, though,” Lee said over her shoulder to Kevin. ”It seemed like it blocks things in both directions.”

Of course Kevin wanted to immediately leave so they could check on his phone. Apparently that had become far more important to Kevin than the fact that he had powers.
Lee suggested that they eat first and then head home and Tarin nodded and followed as she started making her way back to the blanket.
What Lee said made sense, if the field had been electrical then the energy had to have come from somewhere. As they walked, Tarin pulled out his phone and checked, it was still functional and on.
As they made it to the blanket, Tarin sat down and pulled the cooler over, opening it up and pulling out the food they’d brought ”It did seem cool” he said, ”Could you see it Kevin? I definitely couldn’t, could you Lee?”

Kevin made his way to the blanket much slower than Lee and Tarin had, and Tarin was already starting to pass out the food by the time that Kevin sat.
”No,” Kevin said absently as he continued trying to turn his phone back on.
”Put the phone away for now Kevin,” Lee said as she took the food Tarin handed her. ”No, I definitely couldn't see anything Not even when it shocked me.
“But I also couldn't feel Kevin through it, which was strange.”

Kevin didn’t seem all that interested in talking about his newly discovered power any more so Tarin let it drop and just focused for a minute on getting the food out. The teen did at least take the food when it was offered to him.
Like Tarin, Lee hadn’t been able to see the field, nor had Kevin. That was interesting and Tarin wondered if it was just because the power was new or if Kevin would never be able to see the fields that he was creating.
Lee pointed out another interesting thing. Apparently she hadn’t been able to feel Kevin when he’d put up the force field or shield, or whatever it was that he had done.
”Huh, I wonder if it was the electric aspect or if it was the shield.” Tarin said, taking a bite of the sandwich he had brought.

Lee started eating as she listened to Tarin's question and started to think about it. Kevin, however, didn't think it was such an interesting question.
Swallowing the bite she had, Lee looked over at Kevin. ”Get used to it, sweetie. I expect that Shin at the very least, but probably others as well at the mansion will be asking questions like this.”
Then Lee turned to Tarin. ”That's a good question. Really, it could be either. Though I do wonder if he'll be able to feel the energy eventually.
“I either couldn't, or didn't recognize it, when I first got my powers…” as Lee finished speaking, her eyes turned to look at Kevin thoughtfully.

Lee was right. ”She’s right again,” Tarin said, ”Shin knew about the powers of every one of those students we passed in the hallway.” Kevin was going to have to get used to talking about what he could do, even if they didn’t know much about it at this point.
Lee mused about the answers to his question and Tarin nodded pensively as he continued to eat his sandwich. Tarin honestly didn’t know if there was a connection between a parent’s powers and their child’s.
When Lee pointed out that she couldn’t feel the energy she was siphoning initially Tarin nodded, he hadn’t had any control over his powers initially, but he’d had to learn the basics really quickly. It wasn’t a good topic of conversation though and it wasn’t really relevant to the conversation so he didn’t share.
”It would make sense…but I guess I don’t know if it works that way. Maybe your friends at the Mansion would know better.”
