The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Kevin sat there and ate moodily at that point. Strangely, Lee thought, Kevin seemed to have no interest in his newly discovered powers. Though, she realized, he had seemed happy and excited right up until the point that he realized his phone wasn't working.
Hopefully once they got that sorted out and Kevin had had a chance to talk with Zack, since that seemed far more important, his excitement would come back. Unlike most, if not all, of the mutants she knew, Kevin was in a situation where he could be happy and excited about his powers emerging, so she wanted him to feel that.
”Well, if anyone is going to know before Kevin figures it out himself, it'd be there. I don't even know how many years of experience there are in that building of helping mutants figure out their powers.”

Yep, The Mansion was definitely the place to go for experts on the topic of powers. When they’d taken the tour a while back, that had been evident in pretty much everything the three of them had seen.
Kevin looked way less excited than he had in the initial moments after his power had manifested. Tarin frowned slightly at that, the boy had been all smiles right up until he’d realized that his phone didn’t work.
Tarin kicked himself again for mentioning that it might have been his powers that had caused the phone not to work. That had been really dumb when everything had been going so well. Kevin was smart though, he probably would have figured it out on his own…but still.
Focusing on eating so he didn’t say anything else dumb, Tarin focused on his sandwich for the moment and the chips that they’d brought too. Hopefully they’d get home, the phone would work ,and things would get happy again.

Kevin was, by far, the first one finished eating, and while Lee and Tarin finished he sat there very impatiently. Finally, Lee just sighed and looked over at him. ”Kevin, just relax,” she said gently. ”If it’s just the battery being drained, your phone will charge and everything is fine. But if it is fried, we’ll get you a new phone, and we’ll practice your shield thing, away from your phone, to try and get you more control before you go to Texas.”
As Lee spoke, Kevin gradually looked less and less dejected, though when Lee mentioned Texas, he perked right up. ”Did you talk to Uncle Josh?” he asked. ”He’s still coming to pick me up, right mum? When am I going?”
Taking a sip of water, Lee nodded to her son. ”Yes, Uncle Josh is coming to take you,” she told Kevin once she had swallowed. ”He said that there’s a trip he suddenly has to go on for work, but as soon as he’s got those details figured out, he said he would let me know when he’ll be here to get you.”

The longer they sat there and ate, the more impatient Kevin got until finally Lee said something to him.
It was the right thing though because Kevin was suddenly a lot less tense than he had been a few moments before. It really had just been the phone. ”You can work on the breathing stuff any time. It worked like a charm once you got settled in.”
It was oddly relieving to Tarin that that was all it had been. For a minute there Tarin had worried that it was something more directly related to Kevin’s powers that was bothering him. At least a phone could be pretty easily replaced if it was broken.
Kevin was really looking forward to his visit to Texas though and he mentioned that his Uncle Josh was going to come and get him.
This was the first that Tarin had heard about that. Somehow he’d thought they’d do the whole thing where Lee put Kevin on a plane and then his Dad’s family would meet him on the other side. Something about knowing that Kevin’s Uncle was coming to New York was deeply unsettling to Tarin, but he couldn’t exactly put a finger on why.
Finished with his sandwich by now, Tarin tucked the trash back into the cooler and set about dropping his glove back into the backpack and waiting for Lee to finish her food. ”Well, it was definitely a good day for a picnic…”

Kevin seemed to listen more intently to Tarin now than he had to Lee, and he nodded. ”Am I going to have to do that every time to get it to stop?” he asked and Lee noticed that the question didn't seem to be directed at her at all.
At least Kevin was back to being interested in his new powers. While she waited to see how Tarin would answer Kevin's question, Lee worked on finishing her lunch.
”Well, it was definitely a good day for a picnic…”
Lee smiled at Tarin as she gathered up what garbage she had as she finished eating. ”It really was a great idea. Thanks, and again for the gloves. The day's been wonderful.”

Kevin asked if he was going to have to do the breathing thing every time and Tarin shrugged a little, ”Maybe at first, but once you figure out how to turn it on and off it’ll be second nature.”
Tarin thought for a moment, ”You’ll have to figure out where your power comes from…if it’s your hands, or your core…if it comes from everywhere, or if it’s just from your head.” he explained, trying to put things into words that were kind of hard to make tangible.
”Every time you use your power early on you should try to remember how it happened, what you did, and how it came on and off. It sounds super lame, but when you’re figuring things out, knowledge really is power. You can’t be afraid of what you do either, it’s your ability, but you always want to make sure you keep yourself safe. That’s the most important thing, and never hesitate to ask for help.”
It was more than what Kevin had asked for, but once he’d started talking Tarin has kind of just said all of the things he’d wished someone had said to him when he was a kid and had new powers.
Lee was thanking him again for the gloves and Tarin just smiled and shook his head. It really had been something he’d wanted to do and the day had just been fun.

Lee couldn't help but smile as she listened to Tarin talking to Kevin about his powers. It was in a lot of ways different from how her powers worked. Especially at first, her powers just were. They didn't turn on or off, if she was about to control the siphoning at all, she couldn't tell. The best she could do once she had figured out what was going on was to make sure she got energy.
Kevin frowned in thought as Tarin finished speaking. He was really taking this in now that his phone issue was as dealt with as possible. ”What are yours like, Tarin?” Kevin asked after a few moments of silence. ”Where do yours come from? I mean, you talk to spirits, so I bet it's your head, right Tarin ?”
Lee kept quiet, also interested in this answer. A few months ago, Lee would have 100% agreed with Kevin's guess. But after hearing some of the details that Tarin had shared about his powers, she was less sure.

Kevin was tuned in now and he was curious about Tarin’s powers, he nodded, thinking about how it was best to answer.
”It’s mostly in my head.” Tarin said, ” But I can’t really turn mine off and on.” he added.
”It used to take a lot of work to keep the spirits out of my space and I’d get really tired. That’s why I started running and working out, I also used to do all kinds of yoga and meditation. I told your Mom a while back it’s this whole idea of strong body, strong mind. It helped a lot. I hardly have to think about it now.”
Tarin smiled a bit tightly, ”It took me a while to figure it all out. You’ll have much better teachers though.” and that’s all they were going to say about that.

”You work out to help with your powers?” Kevin asked, still seeming to be completely engrossed in what Tarin was telling him. ” So does that mean because I've been going to the gym all these years, it's going to help with my powers?
“Is that why you run too, mum?” Kevin asked, only now turning any attention back to Lee. Then his face fell slightly as he had a realization. ”Does that mean I'm going to have to start running?”
Lee laughed softly and shook her head. ” Not necessarily, Kevin. But running would help with your endurance in the gym,” Lee pointed out.
”And until recently, any time I've gone running has been because of my powers, but not in the same way as for Tarin. I'll go running when I've got far too much energy to try and get rid of it.
“You remember how big this park is?”
”Yeah, it's huge!”
”Well, when I've got energy to make me need to go running, I normally run around the park about 3 times.”

”Yep, and because I like to run.” Tarin said simply, ”And yeah, I’m sure all that time you’ve spent at the gym has definitely helped.”
Kevin turned his attention to Lee now and asked her if she was running for the same reason. Tarin had to hand it to Lee, she absolutely did not skip a beat when answering the question.
It was kind of interesting that despite the fact that they didn’t know much about Kevin’s powers yet, the three of them spanned wide range of different types of abilities.
Lee pointed out just how far she ran when she went on her runs and Tarin looked at her, eyebrows raised. He’d known that she ran for a while when she went for a run on her own, but three times around the whole park? Jesus.
”Wow.” Tarin said, similarly to how he’d been impressed when Kevin had shown him the fight video.

Kevin’s mouth actually hung open slightly when Lee said that she would normally run around the park three times when she had the energy to need to run. Tarin voiced a similar surprise.
Lee looked back and forth between the two. ”What?” she asked, suddenly a little self-conscious about it. ”When I’ve got enough energy to not be able to sleep for a couple days…”
It really didn’t seem like that much to Lee. Tarin ran 3 miles and then went to work for a whole day. When she was doing this, Lee was trying to tire herself out to sleep, which would require a longer run even if she didn’t have enough energy to be awake for days at a time.
”If I could run faster when I went for a run, I wouldn’t have to run as far, but that has its own issues.”
”But mum, that’s crazy. That is so far to run for.”
Lee shrugged as she looked at her son. ”Mutant powers can be crazy, Kevin,” pointed out. ”One thing I want you to remember is that ‘normal’ is different for everyone. Even humans. What’s normal for one person might not be for the next. So as you figure out your powers, you get to figure out what normal for you is.
“For me, part of my ‘normal’ includes sometimes not sleeping for days at a time because I have too much energy and going for runs three times around Central Park.”

”It’s impressive.” Tarin said when Lee asked what.
”I just never thought to ask how far you run.” If what he remembered about the perimeter of the park was right
Kevin pointed out that he thought it was crazy that Lee could run that far and she spent a few moments pointing out that everyone was different and that, especially when it came to powers, normal was relative.
It really was, Tarin thought, and Lee’s points were incredibly valid. ”That’s going to be a really important thing to remember when you’re at the Mansion.” Tarin added to what Lee said, “ Pretty much everyone there is still going to be figuring things out, just like you.”

Lee shrugged, still feeling a little self-conscious about her running. ”And yet there's other days that I can barely make it two miles when we run together…”
”You two run together?” Kevin asked, attention fully back on Tarin at this point. ”How are you able to run that far, Tarin? You don't have energy like my mum.”
Lee couldn't help the slight laugh when she heard Kevin's question, but she waited to hear how Tarin would answer that one .
But when Tarin pointed out that there were going to be many others at the mansion still figuring out their powers too, Kevin frowned on thought. ”I thought that was the whole reason to go there. To learn to use your powers. So why are there so many people there still learning?”
”Because it takes time to learn,” Lee told Kevin. ”And just like in school, people learn differently and at different speeds. I learned how to live with my powers fairly quickly, but I was in my late 20s before I learned about most of what I'm able to do with my powers.”

Tarin just shrugged when Lee pointed out that she couldn’t always run that far. ”That’s different. You still keep pace that whole time and I’ve been running for years.” he said, wondering why she was always so bound and determined to diminish everything she did.
Kevin seemed surprised that they ran together and Tarin smiled, ” It’s not even really that far as far as actual runners are concerned.” Tarin said, ”The more you run, the more you can run.” the answer really was as simple as that. ”And yeah, when it works out we run together.”
Kevin seemed surprised that people at the Mansion would still be learning about their powers and Tarin nodded again as Lee explained how long it had taken her to really get a handle on her powers.
”I’m still learning things about mine.” he said, ” And getting better at doing certain things. It’s just kind of what it is.”

”Actual runners?” Kevin asked, confused. ”I thought you went running almost every day. Doesn’t that make you an actual runner?”
Lee couldn’t help but laugh as she looked at Tarin. ”He has a bit of a point there, Tarin,” Lee pointed out.
Then Lee turned back to look at her son. ”Some days I’m able to go running with Tarin, sometimes I can’t. But I’ve learned that I like running more than just a way to get rid of excess energy.”
Lee nodded as she listened to Tarin explain how he was still learning new things about his powers. She supposed that was true, considering the things she had told him. At least if they were the same for him. Though Lee really did doubt the merging was the same.
”You know how I always know when you come into the room, Kev?” Lee went on to ask. ”That’s something I would have always been able to do with my siphoning. But I only learned how to do it at the mansion with help.”
