The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Now that she was out of the club, Lee was able to feel as someone came up beside her. Turning, Lee saw Tarin as he stopped beside her and she smiled up at him. But before she could say anything, a cab pulled up to the curb beside them.
It was silent as they got into the cab, and other than when she gave the driver her…their…address, the ride started off silently as well. Looking over at Tarin with her head tilted slightly, she noticed that he was looking away from her. And that he was looking even more tense than when they’d been in the bar.
Reaching her hand out, Lee lightly placed it on top of one of Tarin's, giving it a slight squeeze. “Everything alright?” She asked softly as she continued to look up at him. “Matt didn’t give you a hard time, did he?” And, while Lee had asked the question, she never would have even guessed what Matt had actually said to Tarin.
But before she got an answer, the cab pulled up to the curb outside the apartment building. Giving Tarin’s hand another quick squeeze, Lee reached for her purse. Tarin had paid for the first cab ride, and their tab at the bar, this was the least she could do.

Maybe Matt was right. Tarin really hadn’t been around all that long and things were moving fast with Lee. But they’d just talked about that in the bar. Lee knew it was weird…but it was good weird and not bad weird. Everything about Lee simply screamed competency and she seemed to loathe when people tried to take away her agency.
But Tarin had also seen the look on her face, the way she closed down when she thought about the past and all the times she’d been hurt. Rachel had pointed out that Lee had outright refused to date or go out for more than five years. Why had tonight been different? Had tonight really been different?
Lee put a hand over his and asked if he was alright and Tarin just nodded his head, looking down at their hands. Lee asked if Matt had given him a hard time, and Tarin shook his head, ”I’m fine.” he said with a very slight smile and a quick glance in her direction.
The cab arrived back at the apartment and while his lack of consideration would have usually horrified him, he got out of the cab quickly, without even thinking about the fare.
Tarin waited for Lee, hands in his pockets when he wasn’t opening doors or pushing elevator buttons. Earlier in the night he’d felt like the elevator crawled for one reason, now it felt like it was crawling because he didn’t know what to do.
God, how was he going to endure Rachel? Tarin’s opinion of the woman had softened somewhat as he realized just how intuitive she had been, but her whole demeanor seemed like too much right now.
Maybe he and Lee needed to talk. Have another beer, talk things out, and proceed like adults.
Unable to help himself, Tarin looked over at Lee in the elevator as it pulled up to their floor.
Yeah. Talking.
Get Rachel out. Make sure Kevin was settled. Then talk.

He said he was fine. Lee simply nodded. Maybe he was just trying to stop himself from doing something that would end up having them forget where they were. With how he tried to control himself all the time, it made sense that he wouldn’t want to do that.
And they had been close to forgetting the world while doing a whole lot more than just looking at each other at the bar.
Out of the cab and into the building they went, and while Tarin opened the doors for her, he almost seemed to be keeping his distance.
At least it didn’t take too long to get up to the apartment. Longer than she was wanting, but not too long.
Finally, after Tarin had unlocked and opened the door, they made it into the apartment. The dark, very quiet apartment.
Confused, Lee set her guitar case down and flicked on the light in the entryway. Slowly, very slowly, Lee walked further into the apartment. “Rach?” she called out.
That’s when she saw a piece of paper sitting on the table nearby that definitely had not been there when they left earlier.
Lee,
Kevin’s having a sleepover at my place tonight. Don’t worry, I’ll get him to school on time in the morning.
You two have fun! And don’t do anything I wouldn’t
Love Rachel
Shaking her head, Lee turned to look at Tarin. “Apparently, we have the apartment to ourselves tonight,” she said.

The elevator doors had opened, and Tarin hadn’t even realized that the ride hadn’t bothered him. There was too much going on in his head, too many feelings rolling around inside him that he couldn’t seem to get a handle on or control.
They made it to the apartment and Tarin was almost grateful for the slight buffer Rachel would provide once they were inside so he could pull himself together and think. Because right now he just couldn’t think…all he could do was feel and there were just too many feelings.
In he walked, trailing after Lee to find that the apartment was dark. It wasn’t that late, surely Rachel hadn’t gone to sleep…and there was no TV on to play a movie.
Lee moved further into the apartment and Tarin shut and locked the door, then trailed behind her trying not to be a little bit freaked out by how still and quiet everything was.
Lee was standing at the table, looking down at a piece of paper and Tarin came up next to her as she spoke, eyes darting down to the writing that could only belong to Rachel.
So much for Rachel as a buffer.
Stuffing his hands back in his pockets, Tarin looked down at Lee for what had to be the hundredth time that night, ”So much for Matt not sending any updates.” he said, voice soft and uncertain in the dark apartment, with absolutely no idea what to do next.

Tarin had walked up to her as she read the note. “I was honestly dreading trying to get her out,” Lee admitted as she looked up at Tarin. “So I guess I can let it slide if he did. Though, I really wouldn’t put it past her if she had this,” Lee waved the paper slightly before setting it back down. “Planned before she even came to see you.”
Shaking her head slightly, Lee turned to face Tarin more directly. “Though,” she continued, her voice soft as she stepped a tiny bit closer to Tarin. “Since we are alone, maybe it’s time to continue what started in the bar?”

Lee apparently had more faith in Matt’s discretion than Tarin did and he almost laughed at the notion that this whole thing had been to set Lee up with him. The thought hadn’t even really occurred to him at the shop that day and he’d just assumed that Rachel saw him as a warm bodied escort that wasn’t her to make Lee get out.
So.
Here they were, standing in the dark, quiet, empty apartment together. All night it had seemed like they were on some kind of runaway train that had suddenly screeched to a halt.
Lee was right there suggesting that they pick up where they left off at the bar.
Tarin could hardly breathe again as his heart jumped clear into his throat and his whole body seemed to tense at the open invitation.
It was dim, but the light from the entryway was bright enough that when Tarin met Lee’s eyes for the first time in what felt like forever she’d be able to see exactly what he wanted and the tiniest sliver of doubt that held him back.
It didn’t even take a step to bring Tarin so close that they were nearly touching, and he removed his hand from his pocket to drop his keys on the table before reaching up again to push another strand of hair out of Lee’s face and behind her ear, cupping the side of her face as he leaned down, ”You’re sure?” he said, voice shaking slightly, the volume barely above a whisper.

As she stood there looking up at Tarin, she saw him move closer, and her smile widened. She could practically feel him, even though they were not touching.
Then his hand was cupping her cheek again, and Lee closed her eyes for a moment as she leaned into his touch. When she opened her eyes a moment later, her breath caught in her throat as she saw just how close he was.
When he spoke, Lee shivered. She could feel his breath on her lips as he whispered he was so close to her. “God yes…” Lee whispered back as she pushed up on her toes a bit to close that last bit of space between them, pressing her lips against his.
As she deepened the kiss slowly, Lee’s arms wrapped around Tarin, gripping his back to hold her close to him. She hadn’t realized it until tonight, but Lee had wanted to do this for a while now.

Lee chose and in the moment that she closed the infinitesimal gap between them, he knew that it didn’t matter whether this was right, or wrong, or smart or dumb. It just was, almost as if it had been inevitable since they’d stood in his room Friday night.
Lee kissed Tarin and he returned the kiss, the edges of his control starting to fray as his other hand joined the first to cup Lee’s face as her arms went around him. Lee pulled Tarin closer and he obliged, pressing against her as his hands moved from her face and down her shoulders for his arms to wrap around her back and pull her even closer even though that was probably impossible. As they stood there, Tarin marvelled again at how small Lee actually was and how good she felt against him.
More. He desperately wanted more. His whole body was shaking…trembling almost as they kissed and his tightly reigned control threatened to snap like an overstretched rubber band.
So he pulled away, resting his forehead against Lee’s as his hands found hers and he took just the slightest step back, gently holding her hands between them.
”Lee…” he said, practically gasping for air, still shaking ”if we don’t stop…” he let the words hang.
It was so silly, it had just been a few kisses. They had the whole night to kiss and cuddle and do whatever it was that people did. But God damn him for a fool and whatever else he was, if he didn’t stop and clear his head for a minute he was going to pick Lee up and carry her back to one of their rooms.

The longer the kiss lasted, the more urgently, passionately Lee pushed into the kiss. Her arms wrapped around him tighter, trying to pull herself even closer to him. And as his own arms wrapped around her, Lee’s whole body shuddered.
Had she missed things like this over the last 6 years? Of course, from time to time. The closeness, the intimacy, the feeling. But at no point in that time had she felt like she needed it.
Right now, she needed Tarin.
But then he was pulling his lips away from hers, his arms unwrapping from around her. Very reluctantly, Lee let her arms loosen from around him. At least Tarin wasn’t going far, his hands holding hers between their bodies, even though Lee didn’t even want that much space between them at the moment. His forehead resting against hers as he looked down at her.
”Lee…if we don’t stop…”
“Then don’t stop…” Lee said a little breathlessly before closing the distance between their lips again.

Three little words.
It turned out that three little words were all it took to snap the tiny thread keeping Tarin tethered to any kind of reason.
Lee closed the distance between them and Tarin met her half way, hands releasing hers so he could crush her against him, kissing her the way he’d wanted to kiss her for some time now. The first kiss had been intense, exploratory….
This was an unleashing.
Suddenly there was too much space between them and it didn’t matter that they were standing in the middle of the apartment, his hands slid to Lee’s hips, then up, cursing the idiot who had invented buttons for shirts and doing his absolute best to not ruin the thing.
A button popped off in his hand and Tarin just let it fall to the floor, giving up on the damn thing for a moment and breaking the kiss only to kiss along Lee’s jawline and bury his head in her neck.
”Your room or mine?” he murmured between kisses, working his way back to her lips.

Lee hadn’t even needed to close the entire miniscule distance between them. And if Lee had thought that the previous kiss had been passionate, it barely held a candle to this one. Her heart was pounding in her chest so hard that she was sure Tarin would be able to feel it with how close, how tightly he was now holding her to him.
Her entire body shuddering slightly as she felt Tarin’s hands move along her sides, Lee was about to wrap her arms around him again (why weren’t they already?) when she felt his hands slipping between their bodies, lightly tugging at her blouse.
Right, good idea, Lee thought as her hands followed suit, running up his chest and starting to undo the buttons on Tarin’s shirt.
This is, until she felt his lips on her jaw, moving to her neck. Her head rolled back with a sigh as her hands stopped moving.
Then she heard his question. Yes, why weren’t they already moving? “M-mine,” she just barely breathed as his lips sent a shiver through her body. “Mine’s closer.”
Once Tarin’s lips had made their way back to hers, somehow that allowed Lee’s hands to start moving again. But the buttons were taking far too long. Instead, she moved her hands to his side, grabbing the shirt that she had been unbuttoning, and pulling it up.

Lee’s hands ran up his chest and Tarin shuddered so hard he wondered if it was possible for a person to actually go to pieces literally rather than figuratively.
His shirt had buttons too, dammit to hell, but Lee was smarter than he was and had undone the first few before moving to simply pull it over his head. She was also short, and wasn’t going to accomplish what she thought she was. So Tarin helped, barely breaking the contact of their kiss to pull the shirt over his head, shake it off his hands where they got stuck in the rolled sleeves, and dump it on the floor where it belonged. Then his hands were back at her buttons for round two, having learned a trick or two from their owner.
He was tall enough to accomplish what he wanted and quickly pulled Lee’s shirt over her head, standing back to look for just a moment before scooping her up and heading for her room. It was closer after all.

Lee had got Tarin's shirt pushed up to his shoulders, but then he was moving, breaking the kiss to pull the shirt up over his head. Before Tarin had even dropped it, Lee was leaning in again, kissing him as her hands started pulling at his undershirt.
And then Tarin was lifting her, holding her close, and Lee wrapped her legs around his waist as he carried her to her room.
Fade to black
Lee was laying in her bed with a content smile on her face, her head on Tarin's shoulder. She was still breathing a little heavily. That had been…ok, maybe Rachel's idea for the night hadn't been horrible.
It had actually turned out amazing. Unexpected, but amazing.
She was snuggled just about as close to Tarin's side as she could be, the fingers of the arm draped across his chest tracing along his skin idly.
“That was…” She started in a whisper. That she didn't really know how to finish, so instead she kissed his jaw softly.

Tarin’s heart was still racing. To be honest, he didn’t know if it would ever slow down. Lee was curled up beside him and the fingers she traced over his chest left perpetual goosebumps in their wake.
Tarin hadn’t had any expectations going into tonight, and honestly things hadn’t started off all that well. Everything had felt off kilter, and then what Matt had said to Tarin had almost brought everything crashing down.
Tarin had an arm behind Lee, and when she kissed his jaw he smiled and gave her a little squeeze, letting his fingertips trail down her arm.
”Yep. It was.” he said, chuckling. ”Are your shoulders okay?” he couldn’t help but ask. Things had been…intense. Intense and…so good.
”Still think things are weird?” Tarin asked, the ghost of a smile on his face.

Feeling Tarin’s fingers lightly move down her arm, Lee shivered, smiling as she kissed his throat just below his jaw before settling her head back down on his shoulder. “Hmm? Yeah, they are fine,” Lee said, her fingers moving slowly up to Tarin’s collar bone. ”Actually fine. I didn’t even think about them until just now.”
Was she still thinking that this, them, was weird? Well even before, when she simply thought about how things felt, how they were when they were near each other, it hadn’t felt weird. It had really only felt weird when her brain had gone into nitpicky details about who they were to each other in the overarching multi-world relationships frame of mind.
The way most people would think of it when figuring out who he was.
”No,” she replied in a whisper. “‘Things’ felt pretty amazing.”
