The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Hearing Tarin bring up what she’d mentioned about being ‘irresponsible’ here at the bar, Lee couldn’t help but blush. “No, I doubt that’ll be happening,” Lee replied, the blush visibly prominent as she took a long sip of beer. “And I’m not even sure why Matt would tell Rachel those stories, so I don’t even think she knows about that.
“My guess is, in high school Rachel was the girl who knew all the gossip, so she just wants to know everything, whether it involves her, whether she needs to know, or not.”
That was a good enough answer, right? Tarin definitely didn’t need those details.
Lee took another sip of beer. That definitely wouldn’t cause any problems.

At some point, Tarin decided, he was absolutely going to have to find out that story. It was too soon to try and get it out of Matt, and Lee didn’t think Rachel knew. Tarin wasn’t sure about that though, because when he’d brought it up the other night at the apartment it had seemed like she had something to tell.
If the blush on Lee’s face was any indication, it was absolutely worth the work to find out what had happened. Not that he’d say anything to Lee if he actually found out, she clearly didn’t want him to know.
”Fair enough, though I don’t know how I’m supposed to do my job here if I don’t know what I’m supposed to be looking out for.” Tarin thought for a moment, ”Rachel did mention that you punched a guy in the face the last time you were here.” he added.
Someone was taking the stage now though, it was an open mic night after all and Tarin simply leaned back and relaxed a bit, ready to watch the show and drink his beer, which was disappearing at an alarming rate.

Now Lee was confused. “Do your job?” Lee asked, her head tilting as she looked at Tarin. “I thought your job was just to get me here tonight?”
Wait, Rachel said that she had punched a guy in the face the last time she was here? That…there were bouncers here for that. She’d hired the bouncers to deal with the kinds of issues that would require her to punch someone at a bar.
Then she remembered the incident Rachel must have been talking about and her eyes widened. “She told you about that? It was over a decade ago! It was not long after I got out of the camps at another bar, and I wasn’t letting anyone touch me. I was already in a bad mood, and some drunk guy grabbed my arm, so yeah I hit him. Did she tell you that I threatened to punch her when she tried to touch me right after?”

”Get you here and make sure you have a good time so that you’ll come out again.” Rachel had said something like that in the shop, there was no point in keeping it quiet.
The next few moments showed, though, that Rachel wasn’t necessarily to be trusted. At least as far as things like timelines and context were concerned. The look of pure confusion on Lee’s face made that evident.
After a few moments, Lee explained why she’d punched that person at a different bar and that she’d even threatened to punch Rachel. It occurred again to Tarin that while Lee’s sister obviously cared about Lee, Rachel had a lot to learn about her sister.
”I…was obviously missing some context here.” he said, face and actions all contrition. ”I’m sorry.” he added.
He wanted to know more though. Lee had mentioned that she’d been in the registration camps, that she’d suffered while she was in there, but he hadn’t realized and she hadn’t shared just how bad it had been for her after. This wasn’t the place though, they were supposed to be here so Lee could have fun. She deserved it.
”I never should have said that. I’m an ass.” he added for good measure.

Lee raised her eyebrow when Tarin added the second part of his ‘job’ that night. “Well, so far it’s been a decent night,” Lee told him with a slight smile.
And he had been missing context with that comment about her punching a guy. “Yeah, sometimes Rachel misses out mentioning things when she’s trying to make a point about something.
“But don’t worry about it, Tarin,” Lee said as she waved his apology off. “If something like that had happened recently, it would be a valid concern. Most of the time, the worst I have to deal with is guys hitting on me when I’m at the bar.”

So far the night had been decent. All things considered Tarin found himself content with that because for some reason things felt off kilter. At least from his end. It had been that way from the time Lee had gone to get ready at the apartment and was still lingering as he stood there at the bar looking down at her.
Every time he tried to do something right tonight, he kind of did it wrong. Not in a catastrophic way, but in a way that made the easy comfort that had sprung up between him and Lee easy to maintain. He was nervous, he was out of his element…maybe he was trying too hard?
Lee was apparently in a forgiving mood though, and was all too ready to let him lay the blame for his stupid comments at her sister’s feet…even if he’d been the one who said them.
Ugh, she even agreed that if she was some kind of wild rage beast it would be something to watch out for. It was becoming commonplace, Lee taking responsibility for things that weren’t really her fault.
As for the rest.
”Well…” he said, hoping he wasn’t putting his foot in his mouth yet again, ”I can’t say that I can particularly blame them there, but if they’re dumb enough to to persist where they’re obviously not welcome, that’s on their heads.”

Tarin decided to comment on the men that hit on her when she was out at the bar. “Really? You wouldn’t blame them?” Lee asked with a raised eyebrow. And a slight blush started to cover her cheeks.
Lee took another sip of her beer, which ended up finishing it off. Setting the empty bottle down on the bar, Lee ordered another when the bartender came by. If she was singing, she couldn’t have too much to drink, but having a second with still a half hour before she got on the stage would be fine. Right?
“Wait,” Lee said, suddenly turning her attention back to Tarin. “Is that why Rachel had you bring me? So I wouldn’t have to deal with them?”

”No, I would not.” Tarin said simply, looking at Lee directly. If he was honest with himself, Tarin thought that Lee probably should have already known. If she didn’t, he didn’t mind confirming. He also didn’t mind the little blush once again coloring Lee’s cheeks. Nope, he didn’t mind that one bit.
It was feeling a little warm in the bar, so Tarin set down his beer for a moment to roll up his sleeves to his elbows before picking the beer up again to take a drink and find it almost empty. Yikes.
Lee spoke, and Tarin just shrugged a little, ”Something like that.” was all he said. Again, it was basically what Rachel had told him, but he did smile a little bit, ”At first I thought she was asking me to babysit and I almost passed out.”

Lee couldn’t help it. With the way that Tarin looked straight at her as he confirmed that he wouldn’t blame anyone for hitting on her, Lee’s blush darkened. And, though she knew that Tarin had seen it, Lee still took a sip of her new beer as she glanced away slightly in a vain attempt to hide it.
But as Tarin continued, Lee couldn’t help but laugh. “Is it that terrifying of an idea?” She asked. With a slight shake of her head. “I can almost guarantee it wouldn’t be any different than any other night this past week; he’d be in his room and you’d be around the apartment doing whatever you decided to do.
“Though,” Lee continued with a smile up at Tarin. “I am glad she’s babysitting tonight.”

Was it that terrifying of an idea? ”I mean…not really.” Tarin said when Lee asked if the concept of babysitting was really that scary.
”But this was the same woman who just a couple days prior had been skeptical that I should be in the same apartment as you and Kevin.” he said, ”And that was on Friday, when I was trying to put some distance between us and….yeah.” . Subterfuge was not Tarin’s strong suit. Lee had asked, and he was answering.
”Really? Why?” he asked when Lee said that she was glad that Rachel was the one babysitting. It probably should have been enough that Lee had said it at all, but for some reason Tarin pushed just that little bit more. He wanted to know what she’d say, was curious to know why she’d want to be here with him, specifically, over her sister. Maybe all the blushing was making him bold.

Lee nodded as Tarin explained that the idea of babysitting Kevin hadn’t been what had almost caused him to pass out. Rather, it had been Rachel herself. Rachel, who had gone from not even wanting him in the same apartment as herself and Kevin, to (Tarin had thought) asking him to babysit Kevin in a matter of a couple days.
“Yeah…” Lee said with a bit of a sigh. “Attempting to keep up with what’s going through her head can cause whiplash sometimes.”
Then Tarin asked why she was glad that Rachel was babysitting tonight instead of him. She gave a slight shrug with her left shoulder as she thought. Knowing that just a shrug wouldn’t be enough of an answer for Tarin. “Well to start with, the atmosphere is much calmer here with you than it would have been with Rachel. And she’d be constantly pointing out guys and trying to get me to talk to them.” Lee rolled her eyes as she shook her head. “She doesn’t seem to understand that I’ve never done that and am not interested in starting now.”
Lee paused as she took a sip of her beer. “Plus, as unbelievable as it would have sounded two weeks ago, I’ve really enjoyed you being around.”

Lee answered and Tarin nodded his head as she pointed out that the atmosphere was definitely calmer with him around than Rachel. From personal experience with Lee’s sister, Tarin knew exactly what Lee meant. It wasn’t that he didn’t like Rachel, she was one of those people whose force of personality made them almost impossible to actually dislike. She was just so much. Tarin had been massively overwhelmed one on one, he could only imagine what it was like to be out with her.
Rachel was apparently something of a matchmaker too, and Lee’s entire demeanor when discussing the subject made it clear what she thought about that. More good news on that front, she didn’t need to worry about Tarin trying to fix her up with anyone.
And…she’d liked having him around.
At that, Tarin smiled again, ”Well good, because all things considered…I have really enjoyed being around.”

Tarin nodded as she explained her reasons for preferring Rachel not being there that night. She’d apparently confronted him in the shop to get this whole night planned, so Lee guessed that Tarin knew exactly what she was talking about.
Lee smiled when Tarin said that he’d enjoyed being around as well. It really had been nice that weekend. Good. The movie followed by the hockey game on Friday night (even if hockey had been awkward with Robert there). Going to the gym with Kevin and Tarin on Saturday, even if parts of that had been weird. The lazy Sunday before the bomb dropped about Rachel’s plan.
Lee’s smile widened. It had all been very nice, enjoyable.
It only felt weird when she thought about it specifically thinking that all of these things she had done this weekend, that the man who was now her roommate living in Rachel’s old room, was the version of her ex-husband from the other side of the rift that had closed 6 years earlier.
But as long as she wasn’t thinking about that specific detail, everything about this felt comfortable, easy, natural.
Right.
“It’s kind of weird, isn’t it?” Lee asked, her head tilted to the right slightly as she looked up at Tarin. “Just how natural all this feels.”

“It’s kind of weird, isn’t it? Just how natural all this feels.”
”Is it?” Tarin asked, frowning slightly at Lee’s question.
He paused for just a second and thought about it. This had, without a doubt, been one of the wildest weeks of his life. There were parts of it that he was still very studiously pretending didn’t exist, there were parts of it that he was constantly replaying in his head, and there were things that just…were.
”Weird isn’t exactly that word I would have used…” he said, thinking about the other night after Robert had left, when Tarin had realized exactly what was going on with him. He hadn’t stopped to think about the reasons why, or whether or not it was a good idea, he’d just realized that denying what was happening was an exercise in futility. Lee apparently didn’t feel the same way though. Which was fine.

”Weird isn’t exactly that word I would have used…”
Lee suddenly found her bottom lip between her teeth as Tarin paused, thinking. If he wasn’t thinking that it was weird, she wondered, what word would he use to describe this?
But then he continued, and a small frown formed on her lips. He thought that this, the easy, natural interactions they’d had this weekend, this week, was bad? That…But that idea didn’t mesh very well with her memories of how the rest of the weekend had gone.
By the time that Lee spoke again, the crease had formed between her brows. “Weird is definitely better,” she replied, eyes darting down to the bottle she was holding in her hand before looking back up into Tarin’s eyes. “Because it definitely does not feel bad.”
