The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

People like to assume that stripping was just a physical job and being good at it mostly came down to what your body looked like and how well you could bend it. People did not appreciate the social aspect of making people comfortable and welcomed in a situation that Society has taught them to feel uncomfortable with. Madison was very good at engaging with her customers and helping them feel natural talking to a hot woman in a state of undress.
This guy would have felt comfortable talking to anyone because the target didn't matter. Some men just wanted to be the center of attention, looking to brag their way into validation. Madison wasn't even sure if he realized she was in a bra. He just wanted a young woman to be his captive audience, ignoring where he was and the nature of their interaction. Maybe he was looking to convince her that he was so rich and influential that she should just come home with him. It wouldn't be the first time. For now, she waited for him to either propose a dance so she could see if he would actually bother paying or give her a window to dismiss herself from the table politely.
In the meantime, she had time to look away slightly, making sure not to give the impression that she wasn't listening. (She wasn't, but you had to fake it sometimes.)
That was when she caught Svetlana's mimicry, showing off a vapid, empty-headed smile to call Madison out. Seeing the CEO basically Stepfordized caught the dancer completely by surprise and she snorted and giggled, before catching herself a moment later when the investment bro stared incredulously. "I'm sorry, does the serious business of shorting stocks and building hedge funds sound funny to you?"
Madison balked because, yes, it kind of did. "Er, sorry, I just remembered a funny thing that happened with the song playing. Um, speaking of, maybe I could interest you in a dance, sir?"
"Sure, you giggled at me then expect to be paid for a dance? Sounds more like something you could do to make up for being rude." Bouncers were motioning toward the table, but Madison tousled her hair; a signal to hold off. She wanted to try resolving this without trouble. She just had to figure out how.
Uh-oh. Sveta had gone a bit too far with goofing off (had to be a first time for everything...), and Bubbles snorted, immediately pissing off the Very Serious Investment Guy. Sveta had the decency to look sheepish, and sink lower into the seat of her booth.
>>"Er, sorry, I just remembered a funny thing that happened with the song playing. Um, speaking of, maybe I could interest you in a dance, sir?"
>>"Sure, you giggled at me then expect to be paid for a dance? Sounds more like something you could do to make up for being rude."
What a douchebag. It seemed like even at a super woke place like this, not all the patrons had gotten the memo about behaving themselves like decent human beings. Geez. Sveta felt sorry for Bubbles. Somehow it felt worse, working in a place like this with all the safety and freedom in the world, and still running into guys like that.
Sveta stood, walking around the booth and over to the table, holding her half-empty drink in one hand.
"Excuse me. I ordered a dance a while ago, and my drink is almost empty. If the gentleman wants a dance too, he can wait for his turn."

Madison was not going to give a dance to an entitled man for free, so if push came to shove, she would signal for the security team to separate this man and guide him to the exit for the night. Hexes and Hoes took harassment of its dancers seriously. Madison did not want to be the reason this man was kicked out, because she did laugh in his face, but ultimately, his choices were his own.
Delicately dancing around his suggestion, Madison was ready to deflect, beginning with, "I'm sorry, I am a naturally giggly person, but..."
But much to Madison's surprise, Svetlana interrupted and said something about a dance she ordered. That wasn't a thing, right? She would have remembered that. Which meant... Svetlana was here to save Bubbles from the guy she was entangled with! CEO or not, that scored her tons of bonus points.
Not waiting for the man to make an objection, Bubbles sprang to her feet. Without thinking about it, she laced herself around Svetlana's gloved arm, hoping she could handle the transgression to sell the act. "Oh, I don't think that should be an issue; I'm sure this nice serious man would prefer less giggly company for the night. I hope your night gets better, sir!" She waved at the dumbfounded man with her free hand and led the way to the private rooms in the back.
Once they were in the room, designed to muffle sound coming in and out, Madison released Svetlana's arm and leaned back against the wall. The lighting was low and warm, with a comfy couch and a side table with two flutes of champagne prepared. She blew out a breath she was holding. "Bless the Goddess, I'm glad you came when you did. I was gonna have an awkward time explaining to him why I don't give free dances to men who wasted too much time talking about their money sense." The dancer grinned, adding, "I'm so glad you ordered that dance I, like, totally forgot. Silly me! Really though; thank you and sorry for the cling-factor..."
Bubbles went along with the act like a pro, latching on to the chance to escape the guy as much as she latched on to Sveta's arm. Sveta tense up at the contact, but luckily the gloves covered most of her arm, and nothing wen sideways or upside-down from the touch. Maybe Bubbles was a human.
>>"Oh, I don't think that should be an issue; I'm sure this nice serious man would prefer less giggly company for the night. I hope your night gets better, sir!"
It was only fair: Sveta had made her giggle in the first place, by pulling faces. So she walked away with the girl to a private room, satisfied to have rescued her from the idiot. The room was elegant and comfortable. The moment they were alone, Bubbles let go, and Sveta stepped back.
>>"Bless the Goddess, I'm glad you came when you did. I was gonna have an awkward time explaining to him why I don't give free dances to men who wasted too much time talking about their money sense. I'm so glad you ordered that dance I, like, totally forgot. Silly me! Really though; thank you and sorry for the cling-factor..."
"No worries. He sounded like a moron. And... we're good." Sveta smirked, holding up her gloved hands, and looking around before she took a seat on the couch. "So... how long do these private dances usually last?"

Svetlana was probably a few more drinks into her night and seemed more relaxed for it. Madison was worried when she grabbed onto her that she might toss the dancer away in a panic, but they made it to the room and the businesswoman was taking stock of her surroundings. She even claimed a spot on the couch with no prompting. Bubbles was back in her microskirt, bra, and necktie, the latter of which she loosened around her neck now that her stressful situation was behind her.
Moron was not the name Bubbles would use for the investor, but she was also here to work and deal with the public, so she had to employ some tact. "He's a guy. Some of them just really need validation, and I'm very good at offering that. I can make shy men feel confident. But you recognize quick in this work when a guy wants to feel important at your expense." A tragic quality of too many men, really. "Those guys don't tend to come back here much. Besides, I deal with enough business bros in college."
Madison slipped into the couch beside Svetlana, giving her just enough room to not force contact on her. "To your credit, you're probably ten times more important than that guy, and not once did you use the words 'hedge fund' when talking to me. Very sexy of you," she teased, her voice breathy and sultry.
Finding the small device plugged into the side table, Madison found a song to play in the room so they had some background music and she could ballpark how long they were in the room together. "I'd say ten minutes are pretty typical; five for the basic dance, though it depends on what people spend. I've had some clients keep me for an hour." Madison gave a quick rundown of the dance cost, which was pricy for the typical client, but high end customers rarely blinked. "Consider the first five on me, because you saved me. And I don't have to dance if you're not interested. I've had clients just sit with me, talk to me, have me braid their hair. Read a man's cards once."
Grabbing the champagne flutes and handing one to Svetlana, Madison shrugged her shoulder, prompting her bra strap to slide off loosely to her bicep. "I'm here to make you comfortable and happy. Within reason, of course," she joked. Given their previous conversations, Madison was not anticipating being seduced into sleeping with a CEO tonight.
Guys wanted validation. What else was new? He was still a moron in Sveta's book, although Bubbles did her best to sound diplomatic about it. Probably because it would have reflected badly on her as a professional to talk sh*** about her clients. or patrons. Sveta reminded her that, heroic rescue or not, she was still a patron. And Bubbles was still on the clock.
>>"To your credit, you're probably ten times more important than that guy, and not once did you use the words 'hedge fund' when talking to me. Very sexy of you,"
Sveta chuckled. She hated talking about financials in general, although she was slowly learning the ropes about the business of running Haven. But she was sure as hell not gonna bring that to a club in her time off. She appreciated the humour, though.

"They really lean into the witch thing here, huh" Sveta grinned, taking the champagne flute. Five minutes, then. Maybe ten, she'd pay to just take a break, and make sure the bro left. And no dance needed, which was a plus, because the idea of being in a private room getting a lap dance from a scantily clad dancer was way, way out of her comfort zone.
>>"I'm here to make you comfortable and happy. Within reason, of course,"
"You can sit back" Sveta waved a hand. "I'll pay you for a bit, but I really don't need the show. I mean, you are talented, and everything..." How did one not offend a dancer?... "That's not why I brought you in here."

Business people were common clients at a strip club, so Madison knew the general vibe she expected from people at the height of power. That experience made her hesitant with Svetlana, but the energy she gave was different than your typical CEO. That was not in the "new breed of CEO" way, where a handful of internet culture guys carved their own quirky niche into the billionaire bracket. Svetlana just struck Madison as down-to-earth.
"Well, I'm a witch, so the 'witch thing' is mostly my thing," she joked. She did not have to explicitly out herself as a Mystic, but before taking a dip in the Well, she always labeled herself a witch. No one saw it coming because they expected something more gothic than pink glitter. Svetlana, for whatever hang-up she had about being too close to mutants, seemed open to hearing Madison out, even if she did not understand her.
Svetlana was in charge of their time together, and she was content to relax with Madison away from prying eyes. She was doing her best to turn down a dance while politely praising her skills. The return to awkwardness did make Bubbles giggle. "Oh honey, I know I'm talented. Besides, I saw your face when I was on stage." She sipped her champagne flute, letting the bubbles tickle the back of her throat. No harm in one flute; Leah was not the strictest older sister figure. If she was old enough to demonstrate bodily autonomy, she could afford one drink. "I'm not used to a straight woman blushing so much over me. But I'm happy to sit with you; you're interesting."
Noticing the small space between them, Madison still chose to shoot her shot in a small way. "I'm really not a mutant; like, I can't be." She could leave that there, surely; Svetlana had her secrets, so Bubbles could have one in return. "You can relax and sit closer; I'm told I'm soft, warm, and supremely snugglable." She paused. "Which I suddenly realize sounds like my clients describe me like a puppy." The challenge of straddling a line between adorable and sexy as a brand.
>>"Well, I'm a witch, so the 'witch thing' is mostly my thing,"
Of course she was. Svetlana knew enough to understand that there were people who called themselves witches, for whatever spiritual reason. Now that there was actual magic in play, they must have been confused too. And probably super excited. It gave the club a whole new layer as well. Sveta was not sure how she felt about magic people, and she did not want to think about that tonight.
>>"Oh honey, I know I'm talented. Besides, I saw your face when I was on stage. I'm not used to a straight woman blushing so much over me. But I'm happy to sit with you; you're interesting."
Sveta blushed again, which was awkward, because she had just been called out for blushing. She really was not sure what to do with another woman's advances. Especially when said other woman was doing her job. But at least Bubbles was content with sitting.
>>"I'm really not a mutant; like, I can't be. You can relax and sit closer; I'm told I'm soft, warm, and supremely snugglable. Which I suddenly realize sounds like my clients describe me like a puppy."
Sveta laughed at the joke. It did sound like a puppy. And she could see the appeal of snuggling someone so... curvy.
"It really is not you. I have... bad experiences with touching people." she explained. It was hard to explain without going into detail. Even without mutations... Sveta had not been physically that intimate with many people. "I know, I should work on that, huh."
*italics are spoken in Russian* Thanks to Siren for the sig and avi!
Svetlana was less concerned about Madison being a witch and more clearly affected by Bubbles calling her out for her visible reactions. It was natural; blushing happened in embarrassing or flustering situations. Svetlana did not strike Madison as a woman embarrassed to be out of her element, but she could be flustered. She was in new territory with a woman unlike anything she had dealt with before. It did not take a mind-reader to assume naked women did not spontaneously cozy up to the CEO.
The offer to get closer was not taken immediately, but the puppy joke had its intended effect. Svetlana was relaxing, and even opening up. Madison didn't need to pry for details; she would take what Svetlana shared with her on its face.
"Bad experiences are hard to shake," she admitted. She gently placed her fingers atop Svetlana's hand, noticing that the gloves might be an intentional choice to give her safety and security. She was prepared to pull away if she was overstepping. "We've had girls with... bad experiences before. I'm sure some end up at less friendly clubs than this," she lamented, "but here, Leah's always prioritized our safety. There's something empowering about being in a safe situation where you control your situation."
The way Madison smiled at Svetlana was not sultry and seductive; it was just warm. "You give me safe person vibes, Svetlana. So I'm happy to be a safe person back; enjoy the music and my company in whatever way makes you feel comfortable. And if you want help 'working on that,' consider me your emotional support stripper," she joked, sinking comfortably into her seat, ready to vibe to the music.
Sveta didn't know how to explain without actually explaining. It felt like running into a wall, all of a sudden. She had struggled with her experiences with her powers before, wearing the gloves and being overly cautious; after Seizure, after Jude, after so many others, the only time she had ever felt safe was with an adapted. But here, something else was different too. She had never realized how much she still carried what the Matchmaker had taught her about relationships.
Bubbles touched her hand, and Sveta winced, but reminded herself that nothing bad had happened yet.
>>"Bad experiences are hard to shake. We've had girls with... bad experiences before. I'm sure some end up at less friendly clubs than this. But here, Leah's always prioritized our safety. There's something empowering about being in a safe situation where you control your situation."
Sveta blinked. This did not feel like a dancer trying to make some money off a client. What on earth was this girl doing?...
>>"You give me safe person vibes, Svetlana. So I'm happy to be a safe person back; enjoy the music and my company in whatever way makes you feel comfortable. And if you want help 'working on that,' consider me your emotional support stripper,"
Sveta let out a small laugh. The whole thing was so surreal. Not that it didn't feel nice. Zselyke was going to have a field day with this later.
"It's not... not like that." Did Bubbles think she had been... assaulted? How did she explain that? Sure, she had been kidnapped and such for her powers, but that was not the hangup here. Seriously. "I'm a mutant too. My powers don't mix well with touching other mutants. Even if they don't know they are. It's just hard to keep safe while not advertising the fact, and also not sounding like a bigot."
*italics are spoken in Russian* Thanks to Siren for the sig and avi!
Madison realized quickly how her story could be interpreted as an assumption, wincing at the way that comment was perceived. It did, however, get Sveta to open up about her experiences with touch. Specifically touching mutants and people who did not know they were mutants. The fancy CEO was a mutant herself, which might have been public knowledge for all Madison knew. She was not exactly on the pulse of business and news.
"Relax... I promise, I didn't really believe you were a bigot. This does make sense," she admitted. More sense than a rare allergy to the X-gene, which she heard one of the girls guessing in the changing room. "And I wasn't assuming what you'd gone through, I swear. Everyone has different kinds of trauma they internalize-- not to get all Psych 101 on you." Madison liked people, and some people needed a kind ear more than they needed a faceful of her tits.
Brushing her arm against Sveta's arm delicately, Madison made the choice to open up a little more to her client. It wasn't like sharing what she was would cause problems, right? Surely not. "And I'm really not a mutant. Like, I can't be. Mystics can't be mutants, genetically. I promised I was safe and I meant it." Madison was many things, but she was not a liar.
Bubbles kept touching her, running her fingers up her gloved arm. Sveta took a deep breath, fighting the urge to pull away. There was nothing wrong with the touch. No one was hurt. Geez, those reflexes were in deep. But Bubbles was nice, and patient.
>>"Relax... I promise, I didn't really believe you were a bigot. This does make sense. And I wasn't assuming what you'd gone through, I swear. Everyone has different kinds of trauma they internalize-- not to get all Psych 101 on you."
This girl was more clever than most people would have given her credit for.
>>"And I'm really not a mutant. Like, I can't be. Mystics can't be mutants, genetically. I promised I was safe and I meant it."
Sveta blinked, her eyes going wide, as she stared at the girl. Wait, when she said she was a witch...
"Wait, you do actual magic?" Oh boy. Sveta had not met anyone yet who was a... mystic?... even though she had heard the rumors, and Haven was busy gathering information. And now she was sitting in a VIP room with a bubbly young dancer who was... not her idea of the next threat-du-jour of New York City. In a moment, she was out of comfortably-buzzed-at-a-strip-club mode, and back to Haven CEO. "... what do you mean you can't be a mutant?"
*italics are spoken in Russian* Thanks to Siren for the sig and avi!
Svetlana was doing a good job of relaxing into Madison's touch despite herself. The dancer was ready to pull back if it became too much for her, but given what Svetlana must have gone through, Madison was impressed by her. It took strength of will to recognize your hang-ups and work on confronting them.
Their peace hit a bump when Svetlana was taken aback by what Madison was. Nervous, Madison pulled her hand away, resting it on her bare lap. Had she misjudged Svetlana?
The thought of backtracking and lying crossed Madison's mind, but she was a terrible liar and it might be even more suspicious after everything she said. She wanted to show she was credible and honest and not a threat. Summoning magic was a bad idea for that, because some of her summons were still... untamed was a good word for it.
Instead, she could try a low-level illusion she was working on. She placed her hands out in front of her, like a closed book pointing out. She lifted the top hand up to hold it at a ninety-degree angle from her arm and twisted the right hand so her fingers on both hands were perpendicular to each other. She slid that hand down to her palm, then flipped her first hand down so the fingers of her right hand were grasping the palm, as if pulling something invisible into their grasp.
Taking that right hand, Madison brushed her fingertips across her cheeks, leaving a smattering of rainbow-colored freckles on her otherwise clear tan skin. "Tada? Magic. Like, very simple magic," she admitted. She did not want Svetlana feeling threatened in this safe room. "When we went to get... um, mystified? They said Mystic genetics couldn't take in someone with an X-Gene. Which is sad, honestly." If she was a mutant, she'd want to be able to learn real, tangible magic, too. "Some people seemed to think that was a good thing, which is sort of why the girls and I didn't end up staying around... We support mutants here."
Sveta watched, surprised, as Bubbles made some mysterious hand gestures, and then gave herself a makeover in rainbow colors. It would not have been anything out of the ordinary for a mutant with fitting abilities - even Zselyke could have easily done that - but knowing it was magic, and not mutant powers, made all the difference.
>>"Tada? Magic. Like, very simple magic. When we went to get... um, mystified? They said Mystic genetics couldn't take in someone with an X-Gene. Which is sad, honestly. Some people seemed to think that was a good thing, which is sort of why the girls and I didn't end up staying around... We support mutants here."
Sveta tilted her head. That was a vital piece of information, one she was not sure many other people possessed. A mutant could not use magic. That made things... simpler. And also possibly way more polarized. It was good to know Bubbles and the... girls?... still supported mutant rights. Because otherwise this would have gotten very awkward fast.
"Mystified?... Someone gave you the magic?"
*italics are spoken in Russian* Thanks to Siren for the sig and avi!
Madison wanted to ease Svetlana's concerns, but the more she shared, the more the powerful blonde questioned everything about her. She understood how hard to believe magic was, even when you saw it used. People knew mutants were real, and while Madison always held to the belief that magic was real, this was something tangible and perceivable in the world.
The line of questioning Svetlana was pursuing felt more pointed than incredulous. She sounded like she believed the magic but wanted to know more about Mystics. That made Madison nervous, because she suddenly wondered if she was sharing too much.
The first song had ended, shuffling to another song on the Bubbles playlist, but Madison was only vaguely aware of it. She felt suddenly exposed, even in her skimpy outfit. She did her best to put on a smile. "Hey, the first song's over. Thank you for everything, but I shouldn't keep you." She wanted Svetlana to feel comfortable with her company, but with the way things took a turn, Madison was unsure if she still felt comfortable. Maybe trying to end their time early was the safest choice.
