The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Andrea offered the phone as a gift, which made it hard to return without it being an insult. In the end he gave a grateful bow if his head, holding it tight to his chest then tucking it away. She nudged him, mentioned her own relationship, and her awkward compliments made him blush deeper. She managed to put barricades in all the right places though. When his mind started to run, she led him back.
”Maybe we both will have our share of awkward stories to trade soon. I am going to be glad to get out of here... between the kids with knives and the distance to the kitchen, I miss my apartment. I miss having space to myself. I get to spend a lot of time with jude but I feel like I’m going to start loosing fur if I stress out anymore. I mean, safe is one thing but there are some crazy mutants in this building!” he said with a slight whimper.
”I mean, there was this kid who was nice and we cooked and he was really timid like me, and that made me feel like we could be friends. Then there was this other little monster who had these clones and tried to kill me!” he found himself relaying the incident with Elke, and admitting to learning self defense from her before she called him a liability and stormed out of the building. Really, he attracted danger even in a school.
The Greek startled. What had been happening around the school since she had been gone??
"You know, you should invite Jude over to your place and cook a lovely dinner for him. I bet that would make a wonderful third date... plus, you'd be in the comfort of your own home!" She giggled again.
She was forced back to the 'kid with a knife' subject as Zaid swung back to it, mentioning that a cloning mutant had tried to kill him.
...why... why did that seem awfully familiar?
"...Was... Was it a girl, dark hair with a scary glower?" Andrea struggled for a name, but she could already see the face of a very angry girl who'd hung out with Saph quite a bit. The girl had seriously been trouble, and had made Andrea's life just a little more hellish a few times. "Her clones are just a bit slower than normal, mentally?"
Zaid’s ears did a little dance where they were torn between standing up and laying down. The idea of a date was both horrifying and exhilarating to think about again. It was a cute thought, and he did like cooking, but was he ready for Jude to come over? He remembered Erik wandering around his apartment and balked. It was even more scary considering he actually liked Jude!
”I mean, that’s an idea. Stars, I would need to clean like crazy first, I’m sure it’s still a mess. I’ve been working, and it’s so tiny, there wasn’t a lot of room to sit. What would I even cook? We had noodles and he liked those, but what other things...Sorry, rambling. It makes me a little nervous trying to come up with ideas.”
The topic twisted back to the kid, and Andrea gave a scary accurate description of her. ”Yeah, that sounds like her. The clones like to attack first and ask questions later. She... she just thinks weak mutants are useless...” he admitted.
Andrea smiled. It was cute watching him worry over a potential date like he did. "You could take a page out of my book and cook one of everything. I think I had at least seven dishes I pulled out of my fridge for Erik." She giggled, remembering the night fondly. "I always tend to over thing and over prepare. If you'd like, if you ever do invite him over, I would be more than happy to help you prepare."
Lord, the description fit the girl perfectly, though... the comments about weak mutants were a little off. Maybe it wasn't the same kid? "If it is the same girl I have met before, she is certainly a very complicated bundle of feelings." She sighed, pulling her knees up and gingerly laying her cheek against them. "She talks a big game, but from what I gathered the last time I encountered her it was all a bluff to make her seem more intimidating."
She shrugged it off, not really wanting to focus on the adopted daughter of her ex husband right at the moment. "Whatever the case, don't you listen to a single word that came out of her mouth. She'd very opinionated and often doesn't think before she speaks."
She tried to move the conversation alone to other things. "How long do you think you will stay here?"
Cook....one of everything? Zaid started to laugh at the image, and quickly put a hand over his mouth to stifle it. ”I don’t think I would ever have that much food in my house! I would probably have to make something with meat as one of the dishes, then maybe a soup... I wonder if I could find the hotpot mom used to have? Oh! He likes chocolate! Maybe fondue?” saying chocolate brought back the memories of a certain kiss and Zaid turned red again. He coughed, glad for the conversation change.
He stopped thinking about the kid as Andrea reassured him, then considered the question. He shifted so he wasn’t sitting on his tail and sighed. ”I guess if depends on when they think my apartment would be safe again? We don’t know the motive behind all of this yet. But, I need to go back to work this week. I can’t put it off any longer. Even if I can’t stay there the whole time maybe Jude will visit with me so...it doesn’t feel as stressful being here.”
He knew it mustn’t be easy for Jude to keep coming to the mansion anyway. With the dogs, and his job, there were a lot of things being juggled by the other man. The quicker he got out of here, the faster things could return normal for both of them.
She giggled. "See? You'd already practically got a menu started. Fondue sounds like a wonderful dessert for a date!"
She hadn't even considered the safety of her apartment in regards to the how and why of them being kidnapped. It was hard not to feel safe with Erik around.... It also helped that her roommate was a moonlight vigilante who was pretty capable in his own right. Poor Zaid though, he was all by himself.
"You are always welcome at my apartment, you know." She nudged him again with her shoulder. "My door is always open should you ever need a safe place to go. We have security at the entrance to my building." Yes, that sounded grand. She would set him up in his own little nook if he ever needed her... and, as a bonus, she'd be able to return the favor of cooking for him!
"Just let me know whatever you end up doing. I will try and visit whenever I have free time!"
Andrea was remarkably supportive of Zaid’s efforts to keep dating. He was torn between feeling grateful and feeling embarrassed. He regarded her as a maternal figure in many ways, but then she became just a friend when she started rooting for his love life. He hadn’t blushed this much since he fell out of a tree into his own romantic comedy.
Then she went and made things even more awkward suggesting he could stay at her apartment if he needed. His eyes went round and his face got even redder, if possible. ”Didn’t you say Erik has pretty much, spent most his time with you?” wow, he needed something to drink. He coughed and hid his face behind one hand. ”I have already seen more of him than I really think I can emotionally handle. If I walk in on you two cuddling I don’t think my brain can handle it!” cuddling, right. She already told him about the elevator incident in every embarrassing detail. The second hand met the first and his face disappeared.
”He, I, I mean I don’t have a problem that your dating him, he was nice and saved me and everything but stars, I think you two probably want your privacy you know?” leave it to a bunny to worry about things like that.
He stood, trying to hide his embarrassment by scrambling for a cup of water near the bed. He was suddenly very aware of the blanket nest he had made. He was really just falling all over himself wasn’t he?
"Th-That is not what I meant!" Her hands slapped to her face so face it stung, and she may have shouted a bit. She turned to stare at Zaid's door in horror, hoping Erik hand't heard and wouldn't come to investigate.
Lowering her voice, she tried to hide the very obvious dark brown blush that had taken over her whole head behind her hands.
"I-I meant when he is not there! Surely he won't be there all the time, w-we dont' live together or anything!"
Good lord, what had she opened her mouth and done now!?
The Greek fired off a series of mutterings in her native language while Zaid hopped up to get a drink. She wanted to melt into the floor from the embarrassment.
"S0! S-so...um..." She grasped awkwardly for something else to talk about. "You never did get to tell me much about your second date with Jude. I... I spent most of the time talking."
Zaid’s ears picked up on her frantic backpedaling, as she realizing why he felt embarrassed, and then they were both mortified. Oh, it sounded like, and he, then she....well, that took a turn.
”I wasn’t trying to embarrass you, I’m sorry! I mean, even if he was just visiting a lot I would probably feel a bit like an intruder. It may not even be necessary to offer, I can talk to someone and see, I’m sure my own apartment is okay.” the more he wondered the more embarrassed he felt. What if he had taken the invite sometime and then wanted to have the date with Jude? Would all four of them be in the same building? He struggled to imagine being in a double date situation with Andrea.
You didn’t go on double dates with your mom. She was t really, but the mental image would not go away.
”Uh, the second date? Um, Jude took me out for noodles, and we took his dogs. It was really fun, actually.” that wasn’t giving many details. He fidgeted, tugging st his shirt self consciously, arm lingering over his scars with his nervous energy. ”There was this little noodle stand we went to, and I got to talk about the different menu stuff, and Jude took this awful picture of us, well he looked great, I had a mouth full of noodles.”
"Oh, I just wanted you to know that you always have a safe place, that's all!" She warbled back, not even remotely less flustered.
"I know it can be hard being by yourself after something so traumatic, and, well.. I had a place to go to feel safe back when I went though mine, so I just.. thought that... oh, you know!" Gosh, the two of them together when flustered was a recipe for disaster, truly!
She was glad when the topic shifted back to him, and his date. "Aw, that sounds so cute!" She giggled, and shifted into a more comfortable position as well, while Sloth slithered to her front so she could pet it better.
"You will have to show me sometime, if you can get it from Jude?"
She hummed, trying to think of other things to talk about.
"You know, sometime we will have to trade recipes. I will show you some of my favorite dishes from home, and you can show me some of your favorite dishes from home. How would that sound?"
Zaid thought of what made him feel safe, and the pink tint to his face mellowed but the warmth seemed to linger. He knew she meant well, but he probably already knew what he hoped for in the long run. If there was any place that would keep him happy, it wasn't his own apartment anymore, or Andrea's. This week made him feel greedy for some things not to end.
If he was honest, he knew who made him feel safest. While he liked Andrea, it was also hard to compete with the one who had been here throughout the week, doing everything in his power to make sure Zaid was okay. From watching movies with him, to helping distract him with conversation and stories about his own childhood, Jude had been a solid support he felt he could rely on. Their new relationship had moved fast, but it didn't feel bad. And, if there was a way to be closer to Jude again, even in the same apartment building, he felt silly knowing that was where he would try to be.
"Maybe Jude has some ideas. I just...it's been nice, being here, with him," Zaid admitted. "I don't necessarily like being at the mansion just, having him around." This time he didn't blush. There was too much genuine affection in the comment, and he knew he could trust Andrea with what he was saying.
He looked down at the new phone, glancing at the time. Actually, he felt like Jude should be coming back before too long. He usually didn't stay away long if he could help it. He let himself get distracted by the conversation to pass the time. "I would enjoy learning some of your recipes. Most of what I know is just things mom taught me when I grew up, and I'm pretty sure everyone will get burnt out of noodles and rice quickly." he laughed, a smile flashing across his face. It felt good to laugh again. He was finally feeling like the dark cloak that had covered him was chipping away and his old self was breaking through. Maybe she was right, maybe he was stronger than he thought. He had been able to go through trauma several times in his life, and faced the next day just hoping for the small things. A date, a boyfriend, and then Andrea there to fill in the last slot.
It certainly brought a warmth to her chest seeing him so... happy? It was a side of him she hadn't yet seen in full. "I'm sure he will. I have a really good feeling about the two of you, from what you have told me." Seeing the people she cared about being taken care of, happy, warm... she could never get enough of it.
"With the way I grew up, I had plenty of time to spend in the kitchen. I know quite a few things by heart, and I have a tome at home with the rest of them. Oh, I could show you how to make Moussaka, or.. or Dolma!" She wiggled slightly, already blissfully plotting all of the courses she could make and teach him. "And maybe Kleftiko.... though lamb can be a bit expensive these days."
She drew herself from her thoughts with a blush. "Unfortunately, I am well versed in mainly cultural stables. A lot of the other dishes I haven't had time to dive into. But I would certainly love anything you would have to teach me.... like, oh! Do you know how to make bento boxes? I have always loved how cute and dainty those are. Greek foods are very...erm... hearty. This is not much room for fluff."
He usually barged right in. It was his room, after all. And he was currently occupying it. Sort of. Mostly Zaid was, but he'd been back at the Mansion way more ever since. So he was surprised, hand on doorknob, to hear his name spoken in a female voice.
His first thought was Gwen, but before his name, he'd heard that Zaid was genuine and lovely. While that was objectively true, Gwen likely hadn't said a kind word in her entire life. So... now he was eavesdropping? That wasn't his style.
"Uh. Knock knock?" He jimmied the handle and bumped the door open with his hip since his hands were very much full.
Seeing someone in a memory and seeing someone in the flesh was a strange sensation. They'd never met, and yet Jude knew Andrea immediately. He'd seen a couple of what had to be her worst moments.
Well then. This surprise would be good cheer for two survivors. Not just one.
"You must be Andrea. I'm Jude... in- er... well, in case that wasn't obvious." A tiny little set of near see-through knives flexed over the ridge of Jude's large box and caught his dangling scarf. "I brought Zaid a present, but I think there might just be enough to go around. I hope."
He set the box down and 8 sets of eyes turned toward impending freedom. Kittens. They could only be weeks old and they looked to be the result of a printer running fast out of toner: Two orange tabbys, orange with a white tummy, orange with white socks and tummy and tail tip, 3 with varying orange and white blobs, and a single snow white kitten that had hooked herself into Jude's scarf so thoroughly that when he stood, she came with him.
The mewling started immediately.
He disliked cats in general, but when he'd seen the box... "I found them in the dumpster! And I figured... is kitten therapy a thing?" Even Jude couldn't leave a whole box full of cats in the dumpster. He did his best to unhook the little fiesty one that had his scarf.

Andrea was listing a number of dishes Zaid was not familiar with, but he was excited to learn any, if not all of them. The only one he was a little hesitant on was the one that involved lamb. That sounded a little too close to the rabbit line of meat products so his ear gave a tiny twitch he had to control. "You'll have to explain those to me sometime and maybe we can pick something to try! I am fairly open minded for most things. Just, not so much the woodland animals." It would have to be decided if lamb was too woodland-ish.
She asked about a Bento box, and Zaid nodded eagerly. "Bento's are super easy to make! Mom was great at them when I was a kid. I have all kinds of things we can make with them, and--" Jude's voice came through the door at that point and Zaid started that way happily. Then, his nose, his ears, everything caught the motion at the box at the same time.
"A present?" Zaid's nose wiggled and his ears went back in a cute but curious expression. He had finally made eye contact with the little creatures in the box. There were kittens. A bunch of words came spewing out of Zaid's mouth. Something along the lines of 'koneko' and 'kawaii' and then he was scooping one of the little felines into his arms with a cry of delight. The tiny mews were too precious as the little one latched onto his shirt and went launching for his ear.
Okay, cat claws going for the ear decidedly less cute!. eeeeeeee "A dumpster? Who would, oh, star!" his ear did an evasive maneuver and he laughed, pulling the animal away again and sitting on the floor with it. Well, it started as sitting. Then it turned into a puddle of bunny melting under two kittens and trying to defend his ears and tail at the same time with a massive smile on his face.
She smiled sweetly. "There are plenty options that are vegetarian, as well."
She listened eagerly as he jumped into explaining, before there was an interruption. Someone at the door? Zaid practically zipped over to the door, and while he did so Andrea got to her feet. It was embarrassing being caught sitting on the floor like she was a teenager. She dusted off non-existent dust from her pants as she stood, watching curiously as a boy entered with a box in his hands. She was assuming, based on Zaid's reaction, that this was the infamous Jude.
A thousand watt smile bloomed on her face in greeting. "Pleased to meet you, Jude. Zaid has told me much about you." She spotted the little claws and stepped away slightly. She would need to adjust her snakes if small creatures were going to be added to the mix. She watched as she set about braiding back her hair and snakes, even sloth that troublemaker, into a thick plait that couldn't escape from. When she was done and used a rather large hair tie from around one wrist to secure it, Sloths head poked out of the bottom of the braid like a large scaly bauble. It flicked its tongue out in irritation, but was ignored.
Once she felt it was safe she shuffled forward to join Zaid, careful to give the two darling boys their space as she inspected the box and kittens still inside. "There are so many places they could have been taken. How heartless." She angled a smile up at Jude as she dipped a gloved hand hesitantly into the box. "Thank you for rescuing them."
She got a few sniffs in curiosity, but smelling like a predator didn't often make her popular in most of the cute furry creature books. One kitten hissed cutely, tripping and rolling back over itself as it scampered away.
The Greek giggled at it's antics, before refocusing on Zaid. He was having a much better time with his felines.
