The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was still dark when Elke dropped Beau off at the mansion, at his request. He was hoping to sneak back in and crawl into bed before he was missed, but he couldn't help but be afraid of getting in trouble. Taking a breath, the boy quietly crept into the mansion, easing his way down the brightly lit halls--wait what?
Due to the darkness, a small stalk had sprouted from his forehead, and on the end of that drooping stalk was a light. "Oh no..." he murmured, pulling the hood over his head and drawing it tight to cover the light, which disappeared back into his head. Then...his entire body started to glow, sending light emanating from the gap in the hood, and his sleeves.
His heart racing, he quickly attempted to make his way down the halls, trying to get back to his room before he got caught. But if the light didn't give him away, as he was sneaking, he stepped on his untied shoelace, then tripped and fell headlong onto the floor. He lay there for a moment, wishing he could just melt into the floor before slowly standing up and attempting to resume his horrible attempt at sneaking.
Amethyst was beginning to figure out that it was easier to go about the Mansion at night. Less adults, less students, and less annoying circumstances. She could get from her room to the kitchen without running into people she did not want to talk to, and the small children that tended to gape at her jewelry had long gone to bed by now. At night, the place was spooky, but at least it was calm. Usually.
Amethyst headed down the hallway with a fresh glass of milk in her hand. She was used to other drinks from Atlantis, but the milk at the Mansion was pretty decent, and she found it helped her go to sleep at night. She was lost in thought, thinking about the next day, the meeting she apparently had to have with some counselor or another...
... when she rounded a corner, and someone fell right at her feet.
Amethyst yelped, stepping back, and sloshing about half a glass of milk on the floor, and on the hoodie of the kid on the floor. There was a faint glow coming from under the clothes.
Beau scrambled to his feet, and he was staring at an older, taller girl that made him shrink back and his foot caught and he tripped backwards, falling on his ass as he tried to shrink back into the hoodie, but he was still glowing. He swallowed hard, standing back to his feet.
"What is wrong with you?"
He blushed, still glowing a light blue, but his face was tinted purple.
"N-Nothing's w-wrong," he stammered as he pressed himself against the wall, not making eye contact. "S-sometimes I g-glow in the d-d-dark...my mu-mutation does weird things sometimes and I c-c-can't c-c-control it..."
He took another breath. "I-I...p-p-please don't tell on m-m-me...." he said, his voice almost a whisper as he looked down at his feet, hands stuffed in his pockets as only the light and his yellow eyes were visible under the hood.
Leave it to the gorgon students to be out and about at all times of the night. Amethyst huffed, milk still dripping down her fingers. The boy scrambled, falling and getting up again, looking like he was scared of her. Honestly, this was the king of reaction from gorgons Amethyst was actually used to.
>>"N-Nothing's w-wrong. S-sometimes I g-glow in the d-d-dark...my mu-mutation does weird things sometimes and I c-c-can't c-c-control it... I-I...p-p-please don't tell on m-m-me...."
Amethyst quirked an eyebrow.
"Tell on you? For what? This is the one place in this city where people don't give a damn if you glow..."
He blushed, backing up against the wall a little, refusing to make eye contact. This person was scary; sure he'd thought that about all people at first but that wasn't the point.
"Oh...the glowing...yeah. That," he stammered. Beau was a terrible liar.
He sighed. "I...I uhm...I kinda...just got in," he admitted, still not making any sort of eye contact with her. "That's why I don't want you to tell on me," he added, his voice low and quieter than it normally was. Part of him was kicking himself for opening up. He shouldn't have said anything, but he couldn't stop himself from running his mouth from some reason. Maybe it was just his genetics biting him in the tailfin.
What he should have done, was stuck with the glowing bit and taken off down the hall to his room. But no. He just stood there like a deer in headlights, looking at his feet as his body lit up their section of the hallway.
The kid gorgon was acting strange. Why did he have trouble with glowing? As far as gorgon gifts went, it was not the ugliest Amethyst had seen, and it did not seem to impede him in anything, except for sneaking around unnoticed.
>>"I...I uhm...I kinda...just got in. That's why I don't want you to tell on me,"
Oh. So it was about sneaking around unnoticed. Amethyst smirked. She suddenly had power over this glowing kid. It had been weeks since she'd had power over anyone.
"Well, I'll consider it." she cooed as she looked down at him "But you are going to tell me how you did it."
Beau shied away at the smirk; that usually meant something bad for him.
"Well, I'll consider it. But you're going to tell me how you did it."
He blinked. "Did what? Glow? That's just something I do. My mutation is...what did they call it...reactive. I'm always blue and can breathe underwater, but my body sometimes does things depending on the situation I'm in, like glowing."
Unless she meant how he snuck out and back in again. He bit his lip at that part; he was not going to sell his friend out. He promised. "I was just h-hanging out. L-l-lost track of time and just sorta....walked b-b-back in?" He shrugged, still looking like a fish caught in the headlights as his yellow eyes stayed focused on the older girl.
The child seemed scared of her. He kind of seemed scared of everything.
>>"Did what? Glow? That's just something I do. My mutation is...what did they call it...reactive. I'm always blue and can breathe underwater, but my body sometimes does things depending on the situation I'm in, like glowing."
"No, not the glowing" she shook her head impatiently. Why on earth would he think she wanted to glow? She looked perfect as is. No one needed glowing blue skin. Fish had that. "Sneaking out and back in."
>>"I was just h-hanging out. L-l-lost track of time and just sorta....walked b-b-back in?"
She quirked an eyebrow.
"You are trying to tell me they just let you do that? How old are you?"
She would not have put it past the Mansion staff, but still. Too easy.
"I'm thirteen," he said proudly, attempting to puff out his chest and appear more imposing. Not that it was going to work for a four-foot-eleven blue kid. But he was going try.
"They didn't exactly let me. I just sort of climbed over the fence, lost track of time, and just came back in," he said, looking down and retreating back into his more submissive and timid persona; confidence wasn't really his strong point, especially not now. He sighed deeply.
"I...I haven't been here long and I really don't wanna get in trouble already," he said, finally looking up at her with pleading eyes as he pulled the hood of his hoodie down to show his face and his cute, practically begging face.
>>"I'm thirteen. They didn't exactly let me. I just sort of climbed over the fence, lost track of time, and just came back in,"
Amethyst was really losing faith in Mansion security here by the minute. If a kid like this, a glowing kid could get in or out, so could any assassin or thief or bandit that so pleased. Thirteen counted as someone moving into adulthood in Atlantis, but here, she knew he was still very much considered a child.
>>"I...I haven't been here long and I really don't wanna get in trouble already,"
He looked very sheepish, almost begging with his glowing little face for her not to make a fuss. Amethyst sighed and waved a hand in the air. "Fine, whatever. I'm not going to tell on you. I really don't care where you go, as long as you don't bring others in with you..."
The girl didn't seem aware that his glowing was situational, but there was really no way of guessing that, or that he wasn't an Atlantean--people just seemed to assume that about him, and by now he was used to it.
"I mean...I don't normally drag people with me," he said, still not making eye contact. "I normally end up following others," Beau added quietly, then took a breath. She wasn't going to tell on him, so that made her okay in his book, even if it was technically a pretty short book.
"I...I'm Beau," he said after a moment. "As you can see I have fish-powers, like breathing underwater but my powers sometimes react to whatever's goin' on around me. Like if it's cold, I may not need the hoodie, or if it's dark...well I light up like a Christmas tree," he explained, trying to make nice with the older girl.
>>"I mean...I don't normally drag people with me. I normally end up following others,"
He really did not seem like the criminal type. She believed that he would follow others into trouble, but he was far from being a criminal mastermind that would bring a gang to the door.
>>"I...I'm Beau. As you can see I have fish-powers, like breathing underwater but my powers sometimes react to whatever's goin' on around me. Like if it's cold, I may not need the hoodie, or if it's dark...well I light up like a Christmas tree,"
She arched an eyebrow. Fish powers. Ironically, that was something a lot of people associated with Atlantis. Interesting too, in a way, even if it looked kind of weird, all glowing like that.
"So, you are glowing because it's dark, and you can't turn it off? Don't people around here help you with that?"
