Character

Personality: He is typically seen as a strong guy. He puts on a bravado face to try to keep the peace between friends and his family, but the people he comes across in general. He is quirky, somewhat humorous, but also serious, intense, and tends to seem like he is in his own thoughts.
Hobbies/ Interests:  Painting, traveling, hiking, exploring the area he’s living in, enjoying a good beer, music, dancing, volunteering (particularly for at risk youth), and of course, teaching. He also loves trying new fruits (most likely due to his mutation.)

Fears/ phobias/ concerns: The dark (yes, he has a night lamp he keeps on at night.)

Morality

Good/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good – he primarily believes that family comes above all else. Secondly, a good work ethic is required to be a good person. Ultimately, he is a lawful good person.

Mutations

Mutation description: Shape-shifting – he can turn into a Bohemian Waxwing. These gentle birds are from the northern forests of Eurasia and in North America. They are typically grey, black face markings, and have a pointed crest. 

Strengths:

• He can fly when in Bohemian form.
• He can sense danger coming towards him.
• He is the most cutest thing ever, a very underrated strength!
• He can stay in Bohemian form as long as he wants.
• Excellent spying capabilities, as there is no indication he is human when in Bohemian form.
• He has a “prey-sense” which gives him an instinctual feeling that something bad might be happening (essentially a heightened sense of things that might be considered a threat.)

Weaknesses and Limitations:

• Once transformed into Bohemian form, he has to stay in that form for at least  2  hours – he cannot switch back to human         form until then.
• He can only sense danger from about 10-15 feet away from him.
• He cannot transform into any other birds – only the Bohemian Waxwing.
• He cannot speak in Bohemian form, leaving him with no way to communicate.
• He can easily be killed in Bohemian form – they are small, relatively weak birds. A gun, a smack, etc could easily take him        down or injure him.
• Any injuries he gets in Bohemian form transfer onto his human body – if a wing is broken, his arm is broken. If he falls from        the spy and hits the pavement and splats, his human body is splat.
• No items, including clothes, transforms with him. He will usually carry a very small bag in his mouth with basic clothes               (usually a light t-shirt and a pair of sweat pants, nothing else due to the heaviness.)
• The prey-sense only works up to 10-15 feet from him. It is also not very reliable – he often jumps at shadows, gets scared        easily, and can sometimes be seen as going through mood swings (suddenly prepared to fight/dodge at nothing.)

Physical Abilities

General Physical Capabilities: Above average strength, stamina, and flexibility. Below average speed & reflexes.
Fighting Style: He is excellent at hand to hand combat (particularly as his mutations instinctual abilities assist him in dodging)
Fighting Style Pros/Cons: He cannot use a long range weapon– while he can see distance well, he cannot aim at all. If someone throws something at him, he will almost always drop it.

History Of Your Character

Joseph was born to Pamela and Robert Schuyler in 1991 on a hot, firework shooting day. He was an easy baby – he didn’t cry often, was content laying in his crib, and was definitely more of a momma’s boy. It was a relatively peaceful early upbringing.

Regrettably, that mostly changed when his father was killed in action (he was a police officer.) As such, the family  moved back to Mendocino. It was soon after that Pamela brought in Gina, a gargoyle baby. Joseph didn’t care much about her looks, but he was initially worried about losing the attention from his mother.

Luckily, that mostly turned out to be a crazy idea. Their small (but big) family would continue to grow. Joseph did his best to steer all of Pamela’s kids towards each other – he knew they would all go their own way, but he did want to make sure they all at least kept somewhat in touch. Maybe one day they could all live together again.

In either case, when Joseph was about 12, he was out with several close friends at a park playing. They weren’t the most popular kids at school, but they had each other and that was what mattered the most. Regrettably, several of the kids came over to start a fight with Joseph and his friends.

Joseph and his friends knew what was about to happen, so he was well prepared to fight them. He had been part of a self-defense class for a couple years. He was ready to take them on. What he wasn’t expecting was that there was a lot more of them than of him and his friends. Joseph told them to run and he would take the brunt of the attack – they did run.

After the first punch to the face, Joseph transformed nearly immediately the Bohemian Waxwing and began to try to peck at their eyes. The kids, frightened, ran away screaming. Joseph landed in a nearby tree, panicking as his body was now… A bird. He didn’t quite know what to do, but after about 2 hours, he managed to transform back into a human. He was naked, on a branch in a tree. It was an awkward situation but he managed to get down and get his clothes. He ran home and told no one.

When he was 17 and about to go to college, he finally admitted his mutation to his family. No one really cared – after all, it wasn’t a big deal and after the registration act, they had become closer due to the pressure. While some of his other siblings would be home schooled, he stayed in public school. He didn’t want to leave and he wanted to fight for change.

At 18, he enrolled in college to become a High School Science teacher. He would graduate at 22 and joined Teachers Without Borders. He went all the world and picked up quite a few languages.

Finally, he would arrive in New York City – where his sister, Gina, was living. He was a public school teacher for 11th and 12th grade science classes at a public high school. It was time for him to really settle down, become more involved in his family, and seek out his future in the States.

Teaching was a hard job. If it was easy, he wouldn’t like it though. He sighed as he stared at the kids vigorously trying to answer all the questions on the exam. He entered the school system on the new term – promised that he might have a chance at a promotion within the school district in the near future due to his background.
He wasn’t so sure, but the kids seemed to be good ones. Most of them didn’t seem to be ready to graduate, though, and he was sad that his predecessor didn’t prepare or encourage more of them to go to college. It was a public school system – he might end up just like that previous teacher anyways. Retire when he can get his pension. Nothing else matters.
He put his head on his hand as he sat his desk, working on the new semesters learning plans as they studied. He could only hope they would turn out good in the end.
