The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Flight is wonderful," she agreed with enthusiasm. Of all the aspects of her powers, it was the one she treasured the most. To see in the dark and be able to scent and hear things beyond human range was wonderful all on its own, but to fly was the ultimate freedom. Her fire, really, was often little more than a colourful party trick.
"Not my shop, I'm afraid. I've been working here for a couple of years now, though, and I'm offered some freedoms. My real ambition is to become a social worker and counselor specializing in mutants and mutant challenges. Right now, I'm just saving for school." One day it would happen.
Hopping back down beside her little pile of clothing she prepared to change back. "Please don't mind, I'm going to have to get re-dressed," she cautioned with a light laugh. Now this was definitely against store rules! Dragon flesh melted and transformed itself into human flesh once again and she scrambled to get herself properly dressed. At least she was experienced, by this point, in getting dressed quickly and efficiently. Its not like this was the first time she'd had to do so quickly after becoming a dragon.
" Well you seem kind enough for that role" she said not fully understanding what social workers did. She also had no idea how much school costs or now that she thought about it that school cost anything. "Im sure you can achieve your goal, their are certainly people who can use your service." she said trying to encourage her new friend.
"oh no no, of course not" she said remembering the lady had not shifted with her clothing and quickly looked away so she could have enough privacy to get redressed. She knew that had to be inconvenient and a way to lose a lot of clothing if one had to get away often.
She was tempted to look more to watch the transformation then wanting to see her naked at all. She looked back after she was told it was ok. "do people attack you often?" she asked curiously unsure of the world at large and knowing that this girl wanted to defend herself as well as her own experience painted a rather dark view of things.
"How do you feel about humans in general? My experiences were bad obviously but I know blaming a group for everyone's actions would not be right either." she said trying to understand how the world was. The x-men had kindly filled her on some fo the details.

"Well, thanks for the vote of confidence," she said with a cheery smile. It wasn't that she lacked confidence in her own abilities, she had that in droves. Mostly she just lacked the money needed for a proper education. One day, somehow, she'd make that happen although the hows and whens were a mystery..
As she talked she began wandering around the store, making sure that everything was tidy. Fortunately, her replacement would be there soon and she'd be able to go home along with, possibly, her new and unexpected roommate. "Fortunately not too often but often enough that learning to defend would be a plus. Sometimes its mutants too, all insulted and put out because I dare talk to 'mere' humans." Sarcasm in droves in the last statement.
"Humans aren't so different than mutants, really, just without the powers. Some are great while others deserve something really horrible to happen to them. You reap what you sow, you know? Do good and good should come back to you. Do bad and bad should happen to you in turn." Human or mutant didn't matter, it was actions that made the difference.
It was a shame she had to worry about such things. It made her sad and a bit annoyed inside."Well they wont anymore once they see me and you learn a few things" she said believing someone attacking Amber would happen just once while Aura was with her. She may not have known the city very well but Aura was quite confident in her abilities. "As for the Mutants they are of course trickier and hard to prepare for, perhaps us being together will dissuade that as well" she said hoping this would be the case.
"Mutants and humans are both so driven by fear. Both sides need to learn to be in harmony, otherwise one day things could get way out of control" she said considering the long list of powers she knew about had seen. "If either side really did win they would just eventually fight each other anyway" she said figuring mutant and human natures were about the same.
"We can only try and set the best example we can for others and hope they follow suit. If we do reap what we sow, then eventually it should all work out as the worst people meet their predestined fates" she said hoping this was true. It would mean her captors would not enjoy a very long life spans she hoped.
"I do think we will out live the humans though"she said thinking about it. Mutants were the evaluation of Humans after all and all evolved species replaced their parent species.

Having someone to be 'together' with sounded appealing even though she was pretty sure Aura didn't mean together in that kind of way. Ambrosia had had many partners before, if partner could be considered casual fling with little to no real emotional investment. Friends with benefits as also an arrangement she was intimately acquainted with, so to speak, and one that had it's perks. But 'together' as in a real and honest relationship kind of together was relatively foreign to her. Well, a girl could dream, right?
"Unfortunately, I've seen that fear for myself," she cringed at the memories. "That seems to be the whole reason for most of the violence. Humans hating mutants because their powers make them dangerous, mutants hating humans because their numbers make them dangerous. Its a sad world that these are the feelings that rule the day." Not everyone, of course, but enough. A very vocal and often violent minority on both sides.
"I couldn't agree more," she smiled at the other woman. Maybe taking her in wasn't such a bad idea after all. "It's not like I've been attacked often, only a few times really. Physically, at least. Most are too afraid to actually attack and just yell a lot. Way easier to deal with." She laughed.
At that moment the bells from the door went off and she went to take a look, spotting Jessica, her replacement for the evening. "Hey, do you mind if I speak to Jessica about shop matters for a few minutes, then we can leave and I can show you where I live?"
She nodded listening to Amber. "Both sides have a point to. If our powers are used wrong or for illegal means we could be incredibly dangerous. For example i am basically bullet proof and as such could do quite a bit of damage before anyone hoped to stop me" she said considering how far she would make it in the situation. While unsure she was very sure she could take down a lot of police before she fell. "Humans do have us extremely outnumbered as well but killing them is foolish as they give birth to far more mutants then mutants parents through sheer numbers" she said shaking her head a bit sadly.
"Yea well it's good they usually keep it confined to that then. Still annoying but i have to think that's easier to deal with" she said having never been heckled before and she was trying to imagine it. She had to assume it was easier to deal with then physical altercations.
"No not at all, i'll wait here" she said having considered waiting outside but she felt more comfortable with Amber near her. If nothing else then to keep Aura in check if she Aura failed to control herself. She had no idea of all the influences in the world but she had told Rebecca she would do her best not to attract attention.
She was eager to see where the other woman and by extension herself would be staying. Anywhere had to be a palace compared to where she had been living in the cell and even the much bigger and more open hospital floor she had been on.

She sighed, considering the many problems mutants sometimes brought upon themselves. "I think its important that we learn to govern and police ourselves. I'm not talking about a seperate nation or anything like that, but, like a special mutant police force that specializes in mutant criminals and maybe even mutant victims. A force that works hand in hand with the human force, in harmony, each supporting one another for the greater good. Because sometimes mutants are dangerous and it takes another mutant to handle that threa." Yes, this was something she'd spent a lot of time thinking about.
Walking up to Jessica, it didn't take too long for her to speak to her co-worker and update her on the days events. No, not much had happened, no riots, attacks or unusual thefts in the afternoon hours so all in all, it had been a pretty decent day. Once shop business had been taken care of, she returned to Aura with a cheery smile. "All right, I think I'm all set."
Walking outside into the late afternoon air, she continued speaking as she walked. "Why thank you, how nice of you to say. No, I don't own the shop I just work there. It's basically a stepping stone to bigger and better things. What I really want to do is help my fellow mutants and I can only do so much working in the shop."
"That might work, Mutnats would certainly be better equipped to handle other mutants" she said considering the idea. It seemed like it would work to her but she also considerd that in some cases a mutant might just be the better choice./ "But if we could all work together we might save even more then we cant separate but equal" she said considering the idea further.
"That's very kind of you, to help your fellow mutant out over yourself" she said admiring the woman for it. Aura never had much and so giving up what little she had would be a hard sell she knew. Then again Aura really only owned herself and the clouths she was wearing so it would have been rough to part with them anyway.
"I am willing to help you though im not sure how" she said not really knowing what her skills were good for other then combat. Still she wanted to try and help the woman who was offering her so much kindness. She wanted top return that favor if she could.

As far as she had been able to determine, the only way mutants and humans could co-exist peacefully was if mutants took an active role in policing themselves. Ideally, human and mutant police forces would work side by side, maybe even as complimentary branches of the same agency. Of course, it could just be wishful thinking, but she liked to think that such cooperation was possible if the right people were willing to give it a chance.
"Not completely separate," she shook her head. "More like interacting and complimentary communities. Like, maybe with mutant only safe spaces and such but most places being welcoming of both." Yes, she was a dreamer. But sometimes dreams came true, right?
"It makes me happy to help mutants," she responded simply, continuing to walk forward. "Not many people find their purpose in the world, but I've found mine. I know I'm doing the right thing in helping other mutants and that gives me all the fulfillment I need." She spoke with a passion she felt to the core of her soul. "Hey, if you want to help we'll just have to find out what you're good at and work from there." She smiled encouragingly.
Within a few minutes the two reached her apartment building. She paused to unlock the door before leading the way to the elevator up to the 10th floor. Once it dinged, she unlocked that door as well before opening it. Flicking on a light, inside was open and airy with a mixture of cute animals and psychodelic art poster adorning the walls. "It's not much but it's home."
Aura was unsure if that would work but then Amber knew much more about the world then she did. It was likly in Aura's eyes that Amber prolbely knew more about what she was talking about then Aura did. Still it seemed to her the idea would breed distrust and jealously. Aura hoped she was wrong of course. It did seem like a nice idea though And Aura wonderd about the safe spaces and if she would use them as using them would out one as a mutant right away.
"I know some things ima good at but their not very nice things" she said honestly. She had thought that, the combat abilities he had been trained in were not the kind of help Amber meant. Aura considered Rebecca and Caits words and knew she would eventually find something less destructive. "I can extract bullets out of flesh without hurting people to badly" she said considering. It was a skill most people she had known did not have and she knew she had kept people alive doing it.
Not much? To Aura it was amazing. She had been held in a small cage for a decade and then while the X-men had tried her room there was very small as well though it had been an improvement. To her this place was a mansion. She walked in with a smile. "Its beautiful" she said smiling at the colors and how strange it all looked. The bright colors were a pleasant assault on her senses.

"Even not so pleasant things can sometimes be put to good use," she offered. Extracting bullets sounded messy and unpleasant and hinted at a less than pleasant past. Well, she couldn't do much about the kind of past the other woman may have lived but she might be able to do something about the the future. Perhaps she could bring something pleasant into her life. "Maybe you could be a paramedic with skills like that. Or have you thought about working as a security guard for mutant rallies? Sometimes things get violent and people need protecting." She'd seen it herself. More than once. It wasn't pleasant.
Giving a tour of her place, she showed off the bathroom, kitchen, living room with computer and small TV and bedroom. Scattered throughout the place were various instruments and implements of art and sewing. She was a woman many talents and many hobbies, almost none of them which had any practical use or way to make her real money. If nothing else, however, she knew how to have fun.
"Do you mind sleeping on the couch? It comes out and turns into a bed and I have blankets and pillows." She would be considered a vulnerable person, wouldn't she? And it might be considered taking advantage of a vulnerable person to sleep with her, right? Probably. She blushed at the thought. Yup, apparently she was a smooth one.
She might be right, Maria did not really know. She believed such skkil could be sueful; yo others. Her useable skills she felt were questionable, more so her lack of an education. Maria vaguely recalled some of her schooling but not well enough to mean much. Her suggestion about running security for mutant rallys though she wanted to talk to Rebecca on that one as it might well bring her into more conflict then the woman wanted.
She enjoyed the apartment which next to her former living quarters and even the Hospital Rebecca operated from, this place was big and kind of empty. It had a strange sort of empty feel as she was use to many more people being around, still it looked lovely. The tour was nice and she took note of where each place was and without a word also took note of the windows and doors in case she needed to escape or defend the place.
"That will be fine, it looks much more comfortable then i am use to. "[/color she said curious on how the couch folded out into a bed. She hugged the other woman for her kindness. She was really going out of her way for her and she knew their was not much she could do in return yet. "Your such a very kind woman to help me out like this. Have you heard of super?{/color] she asked assuming the woman had done so.
