The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The smell of alcohol rode his breath out of his as he snored loudly. He didn’t know what time it was or what day it was but he was asleep that was all he knew. The dream he was having quickly swayed into an all too familiar nightmare. The sound of his son cried out as the house in front of him was up in a large orange blaze.
Outside of the dream Sam was sweating and his snoring ceased as he rolled over to one side of the bed. Cammie his large tabby cat got up from the pillow next to Sam and went to go sleep next to Bruno, Sam’s large Saint Bernard. The cat moved for two reasons, Sam’s breath and the cat was well versed in what happened next after her human started to toss and turn from one side of the bed to the other.
Cammie hopped down from the bed and stepped past a bottle of beer then another before she made it to the dog who was snoring as well. The Tabby curled up into a ball and started purring into the dog’s large body then stopped when she heard a knock on the door.
Serena took in a deep breath and finished making the cup of coffee. She put away all of the ingredients and closed the lid on the travel mug before setting off in the direction of her old teacher's bedroom. She remembered the last time she'd seen Sam in a sorry state, it was never a fun time. She'd heard he was in a similar state now, and by god she was going to drag him off his sorry as and get him to do something productive.
She moved over to his room, eyeing the door for a moment before gathering herself and knocking. She couldn't hear a response. She moved her ear closer to the door. He was snoring. It was 2 in the afternoon! For goodness sakes, if he wanted to get into what she assumed was an alcohol coma he could do it while he was on vacation, not while he was a member of the X-men, and more importantly a teacher.
The blonde gripped the handle and opened the door, slowly at first before being more firm and moving straight inside. She carefully navigated the minefield of bottles and cans. This was gross. Even on her worst days she was never this bad. She moved over the the slumbering almost corpse of her old teacher and pouted.
She gave Sam a firm nudge with her foot. "OI! Get up." She said in her firmest voice. This was well and truly not on. Serena moved around the bed and opened the curtains enough to let a little natural light into the room, and opened the window to let some of the smell out. "I'm serious, Sam you need to wake up."

All he could do was watch in horror as a par of stalker bots had their hands on his daughter. She was a child still no more than eight. ‘Daddy!’ Sam struggled against a bot of his own and he tried to break free. Sam looked to his side and a bot had a hand placed firmly on her head as it began to glow.
Everything went white hot then he jerked up with a gasp and his skin coating in a thick and spikey ice armor. ”Nooo!!!!” Sam turned to see a blonde by his window with the curtains open wide. His eye adjusted to the light and he covered his face as the ice started to vanish. ”What….” he asked reaching for a bottle of whiskey on the night stand only to find it empty. He was hung over and knew some hair of the dog could help. Sam turned and looked under a pillow and found a little left. Taking a swig and setting the bottle down he could open his eye more.
”Serena… what are you doing here…did we?” Sam stopped and looked under his sheet to see that he was naked under his sheet. Sam lowered the sheet then raised an eyebrow. ”Ummmm….”
Serena was a little startled by the ice armour spreading across his skin but she had seen him having a nightmare, or what she assumed was one. She was also no stranger to such a situation, she had horrible ones for most of her duration at the mansion, thankfully she'd worked through the cause of most of her trauma by this point to where she was in a very balanced place. Sam it appeared, hadn't. "Relax. It's just me."
The blonde raised an eyebrow. Followed by a fairly unimpressed look. She wasn't the shy teenager that she once was, if anything she was more annoyed that he even needed to ask the question. He was so hungover that he couldn't even remember if had done something graphic with one of his Ex-students. Serena supposed she had never really mentioned her preferences to him, but it wasn't a normal conversation topic.
"If you have to ask that question. It's worse than I thought." She moved over to the nightstand and put the travel mug containing the coffee down on the table. "This is just wrong Sam. Come on, get dressed and come outside with me." She glanced around the room and threw what she perceived as some semi-clean laundry at him and then swiftly exited the room, only half closing the door and tapping her foot. "And don't go back to sleep!"

”Wha? Why?” Sam asked as he looked to the coffee mug as if it wasn’t for him, but he did love coffee and if Serena wanted him up there was no way she was going to let him go back to sleep. ”Alright…” Sam said as he reached for the mug knowing he was going to add some whiskey when she had her backed turned it seemed bright out. That was going to be an issue for the ice-mancer at the moment.
”I won’t mother!” Sam yelled back at Serena as she stood on the other side of the door. It took him a few minutes to get his clothes on followed by a snot rocket and a yawn. Sam took a swig of the mug then a pull from the bottle and then doctored his coffee up. Satisfied with what he had in the mug he yawned and looked about. Spotting Bruno and Cammie he went over to them, petted them both and then poured a cup each for the breakfast or lunch. He still wasn’t sure what time it was.
”What do you want?” Sam asked as he yawned and took a sip of his spiked coffee. Knowing he wasn’t going to like the answer.
Boy oh boy... It was just far too early in the day for Serena to already be gathering a headache. She wasn't sure if she could get through to Sam and help him with what was going on with the ice mutant's clearly damaged psyche, but by god she was going to try to do what she could. "For the love of god, when did I become the responsible adult..." She muttered to herself inaudibly outside of his bedroom.
She sometimes wished that she still had someone to look up to, like an older sibling or teacher that she could just sick on problems of the adult-y kind. But as she'd been coming to realise over the last couple of years, the people she idolised as a kid were just people. With normal problems... Or not so normal in cases with a lot of the mutants, but the point was there wasn't anybody to hold her hand here, the man who taught her control and defense was in a worse state than she was when she turned up to his danger room sessions at 6 in the morning, and that wasn't good enough. No way in hell.
She turned to see him as he sipped the coffee she'd made him and finally greeted her in a more self aware state. She cocked an eyebrow, and not in an amused way. "Well, I want to be able to tell the younger mutants I meet everyday that there is a man at the mansion that can teach them how to look after themselves, and that he's an example of a working mutant adult..." She trailed off, dripping with venemous sarcasm for a moment.
She sighed and smiled. "But, I'll settle for you getting up and training with me for a bit. I could use the practice, we could do with some catching up. And from the state of you this morning, you could definitely do with an outlet." She responded.

Sam smirked into his mug slightly just before a yawn and added, ”Sarcasm noted. I can still teach. I’m a fully functional adult.” the last bit was a lie. He felt like half the time he was hardly functional and it wasn’t because of the drinking.
Stepping forward and pulling Serena into a one armed hug he smiled and leaned back to look at her. ”Missed you, girly.” Sam turned and sipped his coffee and then started walking down the hallway his arm still wrapped around Serena’s shoulder as if she was the only thing holding him up because he still wasn’t sure if he could walk in a straight line on his own just yet. It was still early after last night.
”What kind of practice were you thinking?” Sam asked with another yawn.
Serena wasn't an angry person by nature, she wasn't even the type to be easily annoyed by anything. So when the site of Sam the way he was made her furious at the circumstances that lead him to ending up in this state, it conveyed how much the man had meant to her as a teacher, and as a symbol for a mutant and head of the X-men. "Uh huh." She could feel the ice mutant leaning on her, probably because he was still a little drunk.
She sighed a little. "I've missed you too, I just wish that you missed yourself." She didn't mean to be cryptic, but she didn't really know what to say about it all.
The blonde turned her head slightly. "General danger training would be good, I'm seriously out of practice. I've not even used my power in a few months either, not that my control needs work anymore." She paused. "Are you going to be okay to get on with proper practice? You're hardly the prime example of physical well being right now." Oddly enough, she was in pretty good condition herself.

”Deep.” Sam said not sure what else to say. Did he miss himself? Not really know he hadn’t really thought about it too much he was too busy hating himself. How do you just forget that you were mind controlled, and then given anything you could ever want just to have it taken away from you? Not only that but Sam had a hard time convincing himself that those lifetimes he had spent with his family were nothing more than a dream or a nightmare. No he didn’t miss himself he missed them.
Sam started to laugh at the next question. ”I’d have to be really drunk to let you beat me.” he didn’t mean to sound too cocky but he was. Even when he was super drunk he had a tough time losing a fight. Years of fighting to survive seems to hardwired in your brain how you should move or what you need to do to win. ”A lot of people don’t know this but I don’t lose.” another lie. He loses all the time. He even was killed a few months back.
Removing his arm from Serena’s shoulder he took a sip of his drink then led the way to the danger room. He didn’t walk in a straight line nor did he stumble too much. He just was. ”Why haven’t you used your powers?” Sam asked as he found his way to the stairs.
Serena knew what self loathing looked like, she saw it enough from mutants over time, for one reason or another. Some reasons were more understandable, as Sam's was. But that didn't mean it was okay. She knew what he was going through, to some extent. She'd felt that feeling of self blame and hatred when she'd looked in the mirror before, and not for some normal teenage reason. Not even for a regular, mutant teenage reason. She'd dealt with her issues now (mostly) and it can't have been fun for friends to watch her like that.
Serena smiled. "I didn't claim that I could kick your arse, though I could definitely give you more of a run for your money than last time we hung out." She stretched her arms out a little as the two of them walked. "Sure you don't tough guy. Might be good sometime for that ego of yours." She winked.
She sighed as the man found his way to the staircase. Someone really needed an intervention. "No profound reason, I just haven't needed to. I've got control now, and unless I need to protect myself or someone else I don't use it. Been keeping out of trouble and getting my degree instead." She smirked. "Besides, I have enough leftover scars from learning to use it, no point opening a vein unless I have to."

”I’m sure you can.” Sam nodded as if he wasn’t dismissing the idea. His comment sounded more sarcastic than he wanted as well. He sipped his coffee some more as eh walked down the stairs multitasking like a boss he managed to clear the first flight and then turned to the basement stairs. ”I don’t know if I can lose though. I think the only reason I’m still alive is because of my Ego.” Sam cleared the basement stairs and walked towards the Danger Room.
”Never stop using your powers, never be satisfied with your control. There is always room for improvement, right?” Sam said sure he said that to her before at some point. ”One of the reasons I can create little ice cubes and full sized golems.” Sam nodded though understanding her methods of getting her element was different than his.
”That’s fair though.” Sam said as he opened the danger room and entered. ”Surprised you don’t stop at a blood bank and get some blood to keep on your person. You can solidify it right?” walking into the danger room and finishing his coffee he took a huge whiff of the room. The grey metallic room gave off an unforgettable smell. ”So hand to hand, power to power? Did you have something in mind?” Sam yawned again and pulled a flask from his back pocket.
She raised an eyebrow at what she perceived as sarcasm. "Just because I'm not around the mansion doesn't mean I haven't been keeping up with how to protect myself. I still practice Aikido every week, and go over basic self defense. She replied, in a not-quite pointed manor. She smiled at him gently. "I like to think that your friends and teammates have something to do with that, Sam." She responded kindly.
She shrugged at his comment. "My power is just one aspect of who I am, there are other things I need to improve, and this year has been filled with those things, leaving little time and ample space for practicing." She admitted. Having said that, her control and precision was still massively improved from the last time she'd seen him. After all, she moved out of the mansion around 2 years ago.
Last time she'd used it infront of him, she'd managed to sort out individual person's blood from a rather nasty and messy crime scene, which was a very precise task indeed.
The blonde nodded. "There is a thermos under my desk with solidified blood for emergancies. Especially with the tension recently, I can't afford to be unprepared if something as bad as the riots goes off again." She was busy, not an idiot.
She took a deep breath in at the familiar scent of the danger room and grinned. It had been too long since she'd been here. "I'm up for whatever, or both. You remember my time limit right?" She responded, stretching out.

”They aren’t always around though.” was Sam’s simple response to her comment. Though he wished he always had someone around would defiantly make it easier on him when things were getting hairy. Mirror was around a lot but he/she had her/his life to live as well so it wasn’t fair of Sam to always bring her/him into things. Sevta was around sometimes as well but lately not at all. ”Not gonna argue though. If it wasn’t for Shin’s quick thinking I’d still be dead.”
Sam held up his hand and formed some ice not liking that she was coming up with excuses. ”Why you practice. Gives you new and creative ways to use your power.” his hand iced over then the ice shattered and fell to the ground. ”Even if it is just five minutes a day. Call it winding down time.” Sam said preferring that time to sleep. His winding down time came with booze not nightmares.
”Yeah… hoping that we are done with the riots…” Sam said knowing that wasn’t going to be the case. They were always seconds away from someone attacking the city and causing a full out war between humans, robots and mutants. Something Sam always hated. ”No, can’t say I remember it.” he unscrewed his cap of his flask and took a swig before closing it and dropping it on the ground. Sam took off his shirt and threw it on the ground not wanting it to get destroyed. It seemed all his favorite classic rock band shirts took most of the beating.
Serena smiled awkwardly. She'd met Shin on her first ever trip to the mansion, sadly she'd not kept up with him or his wife very well, she'd only met Kealey on one occasion too but she seemed positively lovely to the blonde mutant. "Yes, I do need to remember to thank Shin for that. It really won't do to lose any more people, I'm only 20." She said in a not so joking manor.
She'd never actually said anything about what happened to Sam, even though she was well aware of it. Losing friends or people she looked up to was a bit of a sore subject for Serena. While nobody liked the prospect of losing those close to them, if Serena was in arms reach of anyone attempting to cause this to happen, she wouldn't hold herself accountable for her own actions to put things lightly.
She smirked at his little show off of power. "Yes well, small things aren't really an issue for me, and wider practice tends to cause quite a mess when I do it, unless you've forgotten the first time I trained with you." She winked at him. If Serena was a year or two younger she might have even been embarassed at the memory of nearly impaling her teacher through a several inch thick block of steel, however she'd really come into her own at College, so now she made jokes.
"Amen to that." She responded. She wouldn't like to deal with any more rowdy people as long as she lived. "Well, 20 minutes would be pushing it. If I push it, it pushes back, lets avoid that shall we." She added with a grin.

”thought you were older.” Sam said more to himself as he didn’t bother stretching, he only jerked his neck a few times until it was done cracking. Once satisfied with the movement of his neck Sam gestured with a ‘let’s get started’ hand gesture. ”Half hour then.” with a smirk and getting into a fighting stance.
”I’m not saying how to spend your time so figure it out.” Sam rose his hands up and an icy mist surrounded their feet obscuring the ground below them. ”Danger Room, start clock. Thirty minutes!” on cue a large ditigital screen appeared revealing a countdown clock in red starting reading a half hour.
”Better be worth making me get up this early, that was the first time in a week I was able to sleep.”
