The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Got a plot in mind?
MRO plots are player-created the Mods facilitate and organize the big ones, but we get the ideas from you. Do you have a plot in mind, and want to know whether it needs Mod approval? Check out our plot guidelines.
I think this plot would be a great time to extricate the X's from the Police and extricate the X's from the Mansion. Any former deputies who want to continue on as vigilantes can go to this silly Utopia and vigilant there. Any x's who stay behind would officially give up their badges and their crime-stopping ways.
Let's let the Mansion be a school and a "safe place." Putting the X's there only ever endangered those kids anyway.
Oooooh so what you're suggesting is that the mutant art show would be used as part of the ensuing peace rallies and whatnot in support of mutants? If so, I love the idea! If you'd like that could be one of the main features of the NYC peace rally that happens the day following the Mutant Massacre.
And my bets are that Panu would be very active in a nation that is secretly run by Ragnarök
I like the X men being with the police. But it always feels weird, haha. You're either a straightlaced X man, or you're chugging from your flask at work and going after jaywalkers.
Haha, the mansion and xmen should stay together, I think. I think the kids need more explosions and mansion fires, personally. And stealing jets and wandering into locked danger rooms that were unlocked because someone forgot. And maybe forgot their flask.
I do however think it's a great plot for discussion about the place in the police for the X men as well as the mutant related crimes division. Since most mrc cops are inactive, it's not really a huge deal, but they feel like those two might go hand in hand. At the very least, the mutant human division will cause rifts within the police as well as the X men. And rifts between the police and the xmen. Perfect time to have players have their characters consider what these things mean to them! I know if I bring in a mrc cop as a second they'll be considering this very much.
I like Sarah's idea of tying the art show in with this plot. They definitely can line up side by side. I can see that working well.
I agree with Elliott. I think the X-men/police divide would be a great subplot to explore in this, but at the end of the day it makes more sense to me at least that the X-men should remain at the mansion with the kids
I'll be certain to get Devon involved. If someone needs an NPC played and wants someone else to do it to bounce off of, please let me know and I can assist there. Happy to flex my writing muscles!
Thanks for stepping up! A little further back on the thread however we decided it would be best for the politician to be an NPC and not player controlled to ensure that RL events can't steal our President away and halt the plot. If you'd like to, Tempest could become involved in the governing of Utopia in another position that isn't as paramount to the continuation of the plot (and in a position that the plot doesn't call for an assassination against him, seeing as you probably want Tempest to make it to the other side of the plot alive )
Oh yes I didn't mean Tempest being central to plot. I was meaning involved in going to the art show, at the rally, etc. i.e. I definitely plan to have Tempest participate in most of the storyline.
As for NPC volunteering, if anyone wants any sort of NPC controlled for a little back and forth I can help.
Thanks for the suggestions though. We'll see what Tempest thinks of Utopia as it comes across! Great planning you've done here!
Just a thought. If the NPC is just a puppet for Jaager, doesn't that just leave us in the same position we're specifically trying to avoid? Ragnarok involvement and support certainly both makes sense and adds fun things for them to do, but if the true mastermind is Ambrose, we're still risking an absence, right?
X-men extrication from police and retaining the Mansion, that sounds like a job for professor X and cerebro. Or, you know, an NPC that is similar. Wipe the association of Xmen and Xavier's from the world's mind, Panu or similar wipes the Xmen from police records because someone convinced him it'll hurt them and their public operation. Something like that. That way we keep the tension growth subplot, between Xmen, police, and state, then neatly resolve it in a thoroughly comic book manner.
Pretty sure that's all I got for now. Work isn't exactly an environment conducive to thinking about plots.
