The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Jewel froze. Things were happening too fast for her - one minute the shop was quiet and peaceful, the next things were breaking and there were two mutants, a feisty girl confronting them, and an attempted robbery. Jewel fought for breath, and tried not to panic. She was fairly new to the mutant world, and definitely new to the world of violence. She backed away till her back hit one of the glass cases. She took a deep breath. Her powers always drew her to jewelry. Being in a place filled with things she could control and shape always made her head dizzy. The cheerful kind of dizzy. What she was experiencing now was something enhanced by an adrenaline rush - she could feel the pull of every single piece of metal and every gemstone in the shop, as well as outside in the immediate area. Her fingers twitched. Breathe, Lily. Think. Mutants. Powers. Metals. Fight. Humans... It took her seconds to figure out what was happening - to see that out of the three girls one was at least kinda thinking the same way as she was. She also saw the clerk's look of horror and fear; she wasn't prepared or trained for these kind of situations, but she did feel responsible for innocent people. Yes, getting them out of here would be a good idea...
Jewel ran across the room, behind the counter and stood next to Davis. She looked at the girl with the metal claws "Don't hurt him. Please."
Lily didn't expect her parents to visit so soon after she moved into the Institute. After all, they lived a long way away, and they tried to avoid publicity, especially when it came to their daughter's powers (police investigation still in progress, and it cost them a lot to keep Lily's part of the story hidden from the press). But anyway, here they were, making sure their only daughter was safe and the place she lived in was everything she needed. Lily (known to most as Jewel - her parents called her Jewel when she was a little girl, and later the people who she thought were her friends called her the same, although for a different reason) - left the mansion grounds for the first time in days. Many days. She walked with her parents in the City; she enjoyed the walk, the talk, and of course looking at the shopwindows. Sometimes her mother smiled at her "Something caught your attention, little magpie?" And she'd realize she had been staring at jewelry for minutes. She just couldn't resist the shop. Davis Jewels was new, shiny and exquisite. "You just go in ahead, we'll wait for you over there at the café" Mother said with an all-knowing smile, and Jewel smiled back before she entered the shop.
She has been admiring the jewelry for long minutes now; the shop was quiet and elegant. Lily was used to these kinds of places, and she was always welcome; anyone could tell at first sight she had every right (and the money) to be there. Right now she was wearing a black skirt and a loose, elegant back top; her shoes were black leather, and on this simple background she wore a set of matching jewelry - earrings, necklace and bracelets - made of pale, heavy gold and tiny gemstones. Jewel looked up when she heard the door open, and for a second she couldn't help but stare at the girl who entered; then she looked away, 'staring is rude', and fiddled with her bracelet nervously.
"You are lucky, then. I am an only child." she tilted her head "I'd appreciate the company. I think I'll wait and see if a suitable roommate comes along." she smiled at him "Thank you for your help, Shin. It means a lot, this far from home... I think I will have questions about classes later on. Right now... I'll just get settled in." She bent down and patted Thor on the head "See you around, big boy."
She walked with Thor, not really pulling on the leash. She kept looking around in awe. "How many people live here?..." she wondered aloud "You know, I was not quite prepared for coming here. I am not used to... this kind of company. But... it looks like a place pleasant enough. Really." She walked into the room, looking around "Do I have a roommate?"
She watched Shin as he did the demonstration, and she smiled (for the first time, not politely, but with a genuine smile) "That's... impressive." She held out her hand timidly, and bit her lip in concentration; her bracelet split into two parts, a sneak of silver and a sneak of gold, and wove itself into a new pattern. "It is... about precision, I think. Doesn't work this well with all the gemstones, and diamonds are... stubborn. It would be great if I could practice more effectively... the only useful thing I can do right now is find lost jewelry. Anyway. I should probably go and find my room, right?"
She waited patiently through the whole procedure, looking around in the hallway and in the office. She smiled at him "I really appreciate your help." She scratched Thor behind the ears while she thought about the question. "Well... um, you or... whoever is in charge of this should probably know that I am not allowed off the mansion grounds without supervision. I am not planning on leaving, but... anyway, it is a legal matter. I am here to learn more about my powers." She is silent for a while, thinking about it, and glances at him. "It's not like I am dangerous, don't worry. You know, my powers control precious metals and gemstones. Most of them, anyway. I don't know how common that is... I don't know much about mutant powers in general. Um, is it polite to ask someone what his or her power is?..."
She spent long minutes scratching Thor's ears and sides. "There's a good boy..." Then finally realized she had other things to do, and stood up "Um. We had dogs, at home." She explained, giving him a shy smile, and grabbed her suitcase "Well... if you could find me a room to put this down, that would be great..." She looked up at the building "I can't believe I am going to school... again. Huh. Okay. So... you greet all the newcomers here? How long have you been here?"
When the dog appeared, the girl jumped a bit in surprise, and looked at Thor curiously, tilting her head like a bird. "Um. Hi there..." she knew better than just patting any dog that walks up to her; she waited. When the guy appeared, she stood up in a hurry; listened through his greeting speech, tilting her head to the other side this time, then nodded and held out her hand very politely, her exquisite bracelet jingling with every move. "A pleasure to meet you, Shin. My name is Lily Lafayette. I... well, it was my parents who arranged for me to come to this school. I just arrived... I would really appreciate it if you could show me around. Or just point me to someone who can help me find my place..." She glanced down at the dog with a tiny smile. "Um. I like dogs... may I?" she held out her hand to Thor, palm up, waiting for the dog (and Shin) to give her permission.
An elegant black car pulled up in front of the mansion's gates; a girl got out from the backseat, and the driver (who was wearing a uniform) helped her lift a huge suitcase out of the trunk. They exchanged a couple of words, then the car left; the girl walked in through the gates, pulling the suitcase behind her. She looked about 20 years old - not a highschooler but a grown-up lady. She was wearing an elegant black outfit and golden jewelry that even from a distance looked quite expensive. She walked towards the building, slowing down as she got closer... after a few steps she stopped completely, glancing around, waiting for someone to show up and greet her. Or something. She let go of the suitcase, and sat down on top of it, biting her lip. She looked totally lost...
