The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Normal clothes? Never. Flashy ones, maybe. And pretty dresses for dancing" she chuckled "No, I don't have anything planned. Finding the way back to my room sounded like a challenge for the rest of the day..." she mused "But I guess I'd like to walk around, see the rest of the mansion. That's about it. Why, do you have any suggestions? What do you do around here in your free time?"
She listened eagerly as Streak talked about the mansion and their ideals, and she smiled at the end "Sounds like the perfect place for me." She didn't press the matter about her past. She was not sure she wanted to keep it a secret either; but right now she didn't need the conversation to get any more serious. It was still too early in the morning for that. Apparently, Streak was thinking the same. Joking worked well; now Jewel was smiling again "Just for the record, yes, I am very good at eating breakfast in pj's. And lunch. And dinner too. That's what princesses do." she added with a serious face and a nod. Now she was playing.
She glanced at Aura as she spoke, and she looked a little sad. "Nobody told you the whole legend, did they? If you cut off the head of a hydra, it doubles and comes back more fierce." She was not making fun of her. She just read too many books, and she recalled the story without automatically. Jewel was relieved that the fight was apparently over, and more than a bit grateful for their opponents' understanding. "Look at it this way: both of us achieved something here. You trashed the place, and we saved the owner's life - we'll just have to wait and see which message got through to him." She said, and in the next minute she was surprised at herself - where did that come from?... When Meld started collecting jewelry, Jewel's hands twitched, and some pieces around her shivered, making a clinking noise. But she soon regained control - this was not her main concern right now. All the jewelry stayed on the floor. When the girl collapsed, Jewel knelt down to see how bad her injuries were. She was not trained for this at all, all she could see was too much blood. The girl who was fighting Audrey offered her help; Jewel looked up at her, a bit surprised, and a bit relieved. "I... Thank you for your help, but I would like to take her home... I mean, to the Institute. She can be healed there, and... it would cause less problems for you and for her... when she wakes up." she added with a faint smile. The shop's door opened, but it was not the police. It was Jewel's parents, afraid for their daughter's life. Jewel looked at her opponents "Time for you two to go. We'll take her."
Jewel was frightened. She had never been in a fight before, and never seen people, mutants like her, filled with so much hate (and ideas so different from her view). That, however, was not her main concern right now. The man got away; he must have called the police by now, even if her parents haven't done it already. Her senses calmed down after the first rush; the crazy buzz of the jewelry slowed down around her. She turned her attention to the girl with the aura, and her eyes widened in surprise. "You are so young..." she whispered (and she didn't even realize she said it aloud). She kept her arms by her sides, palms facing down; her aura of jewelry - for a few seconds very similar to the girl's pink aura - moved in slow motion, close to her body. She stood still - she didn't want to make sudden movements. She tired to look calm. The fighter girl - the one she started to think about as her ally - was hurt. Badly hurt, from the looks of it. The sight of blood reminded Jewel how serious the situation was. And that she had no fight skills whatsoever. But she did have something else. Pieces of jewelry levitated slowly down towards the ground. She was placing down her... weapon (although she didn't think about it as one). And she spoke, to win time. "Please. I don't want to fight. I don't know how to." she walked closer to Audrey "She's hurt. I'll take her with me. The police could be here any minute, at that would just make things worse. For us, and for you. We all know this fight wouldn't decide anything." She kept glancing at Aura. The girl with the claws was a fighter, a bold and maybe savage one; but Jewel somehow felt that the other one needed the attention. She was frightened of both of them - but she felt something else too for the young one, something that extremely lucky and beloved people would feel towards someone who had a much harder life. She helped Audrey stand, and she kept talking, just to move things along. "When humans discovered my powers, they used me as a thief. You can see why, right? I am under police surveillance. I am new to the world of mutants. I am new to this fight, and hatred, and all the things you live with. And I right be wrong, but I don't think humans would stop hating us if we went around killing them..." she took a breath "But you are right, we are all mutants. We go through the same thing. Let's not beat each other up over a human's jewelry shop." She turned her attention to Audrey, silently praying in herself that this fight would end before something worse happens.
She listened to him as he talked about fighting. It was something she never experienced (and never wanted to, if she could help it). She let him stay silent for a while, deep in thoughts herself. Apparently she didn't like the idea of fighting in general. It has always frightened her. She nodded at his question. "You are right. Usually I don't have any problems with making conversation. It's not really about etiquette, though..." she turned the rose around between her fingers "I have known about my powers for years. I practiced a lot, and I used them. In secret, of course. I was a jeweler's apprentice for a while." she smiled a bit at the memory, then the smile disappeared when she remembered the rest of the story. She didn't tell that part though. Not now. "My parents didn't expect any of that, but... this is how it turned out. But I never had company in... using my powers openly, you know? And now here I am with the best education you can get, I am a Southern lady" she smirked, and pressed her faint accent "The only problem is, that I... don't know, I expect some kind of code or etiquette to go with every... community, and I don't know this one yet. I don't know what I'm allowed to do, or... is it polite to ask someone about their powers, and I don't know when I'd offend someone with something I say. Plus I get lost in the mansion, and I am not comfortable having breakfast in pj's." she smirked again "And it is more annoying because in my old schools I was really good at this. And now I'm talking too much. And that is not polite..."
She watched the demonstration with curiosity, tilting her head like a bird. The smile was still playing on her lips "Silver Streak. Nice. So that's your... how do you say it... codename?" She watched him cover himself with the silver skin, and raised her eyebrows at the blades and knives. "Impressive... I think I envy you right now. I can't produce the materials I work with" she touched the pendant on her necklace pensively as she blades disappeared "Have you ever had to use those? I mean, in... um, in a real fight?..." The rose surprised her. She didn't expect that. She couldn't tell if it was because of the gesture itself, or the fact that is took great skill to create something like that. She admired it for long seconds, her cheeks taking on a deep crimson color, then reached out and took it from his hand. "Wow. It takes a lot of talent to create something like this... um, I mean... thank you. It is really beautiful."
"That is most definitely not a polite question, mister." she told him with a serious face, and arched her eyebrow. After a few seconds, she finally smiled "Now that is how boring etiquette classes are." She sipped her milk, and looked up at him curiously "So, we already saw what I can do with silver. But I'm wondering: what can you do with it?"
She smiled gratefully at him "Thank you. It means a lot, to hear that. And sorry if I'm being... awkward. Etiquette classes don't cover behavior in communities where everyone has some kind of special power." She took a deep breath, and looked up at him with a playful smile "Let's try this again. Hi, Shawn, my name is Lily, I'm from New Orleans, and I have been here for a whole day. How about you?"
She chuckled a bit at the hide-and-seek comment; now she looked more at ease. "I would find you from a mile away. Sorry, you wouldn't stand a chance." The "infomercial" earned another smile "You did. But I'm so far out of my element here that I appreciate it... my parents always picked the best schools for me, you know. Except this one, this one kind of... got picked for me by someone else. And so far it looks good." When he coated his arm in silver, and produced the string on the table, Jewel stared in awe. Her mutant senses were going crazy from this amount of precious metal so close. Her finger twitched around the glass of milk; she looked enchanted. "That's... impressive." she muttered, blushing again "Um, sorry." She kept staring at the string on the table. One of her hands left the glass and she moved her fingers carefully in the air. The sting sneaked closer to her and lifted on one end; now she looked like a magician charming a snake. Slowly, Jewel touched it with the tip of her finger; then she wove the silver around her fingers and her wrist. "This is very... pure. Exquisite quality." she murmured to herself. The silver wove itself into a thin bracelet for a few second before she let it drop onto the table. She snapped out of her trance, and blushed deeper red. "Sorry. Not really a combat skill, huh."
She smiled at him "Nice to meet you. My name is Lily, but my... most people call me Jewel. I just arrived yesterday..." she sipped her milk "I'm still getting used to this place. But I think I like it." When he asked about the necklace, she blushed "I was practicing. My powers control precious metals and gemstones... I can sense them too, that's why I could tell you were the one Shin talked about." she looked down at her necklace with a frown "But I can't deal with diamonds yet. They are stubborn."
Jewel looked up, surprised, and almost spilled the milk from her glass. "I wasn't... um." She stared at him until she realized it, and then she turned her attention to gathering up all the silver from the table and shaping her necklace back into its original form. With that done, she looked up at him again. "You must be Shawn. Shin told me about you yesterday..."
Jewel sat at the dining table with a bottle of milk and a bowl of cereals for company. It was early in the morning, and she was already dressed - not like she was going anywhere, just because this being her second day at the Mansion, she was not yet comfortable with walking around in pj's. She woke up at dawn and wandered around in the mansion for a good half an hour before finding the dining room, starving for some breakfast. And now she was sitting there all alone, resting her chin in her palms, thinking. The whole experience was new to her. As a child, she was home schooled; as a teenager, she went to an elite private high school, because, according to her parents, she only deserved the best. And now here she was, a mutant, in a school for mutants, and she felt... peaceful. And curious. She focused her thoughts, and her silver necklace sneaked down from her neck onto the table, the diamond pendant landing with a tiny noise. Jewel stared at it. Diamonds were stubborn; she could move and shape the silver around it - and she did - but couldn't even make the diamond flick. But, after all, this is why she came to this school. So she focused. And concentrated. And stared. The silver started twirling around the diamond, taking on new shapes; the diamond stayed still. Jewel held her breath. She could sense every piece of precious metal and stone in the mansion, vaguely in the background, pulling on her senses. Focus. A silver spoon that somehow made its way into the kitchen drawer who knows how long ago, made a clicking sound. A long-lost half earring sneaked out from under the counter. The diamond did not move. Jewel sighed and let out the breath she was holding. "Fine, you win." she frowned at the diamond.
This fight was over Jewel's head - it was fast, angry, and fought with weapons she couldn't match. She listened to what the three girls said, still standing in front of Davis, and noted that one of them was definitely on their - her? - side. As for speaking about traitors, she frowned deeply; she was new to the mutant world, but skilled enough in diplomacy to know that violence is never the answer. When Audrey flung herself at the girl with the metal claws, Jewel decided it was time to act. She grabbed Davis' arm and yanked him to his feet "Come on! Hurry!" She dragged him out from behind the counter, then pushed him towards the door "Go go go!" She knew it was not wise to turn their back on the fighters, so she twirled around. Davis needed time to escape. Jewel once (not long ago) decided she'll never let any human know about her powers. But right now, this was the least of her worries. Her fingers twitched again. Jewelry in the glass cases started shaking, vibrating with her powers. The stones Aura tossed away hung in mid-air for a second, then flew across the room; earrings, bracelets, pendants jumped into the air and buzzed around Jewel like a swarm of shiny bees. She kept them close to herself - she was not attacking anyone. She took a deep breath. "STOP FIGHTING! Please!"
