The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"I'm not perfect." He said. Calmly. "I usually don't date the girls my little sister sends my way at the coffee shop. Because they are under the impression that there is nothing wrong with me. That sunlight comes out of my ass."
"It doesn't, by the way. In case you were wondering."
Aurum didn't look at her. He shrugged. "I think the same joke gets old if its repeated all the time. Especially when one hears it from people who aren't joking, but completely serious."
Did he think she was in awe? Probably not. There was a whole lot more sentient thought and a whole lot less drooling going on over there. And she wasn't chasing him, asking for his number.
If he dated someone, he wanted... well. He wanted them to like him, despite his faults. And yes, he had them. Being completely obsessed and ignoring they existed was clearly a path to stalker town. One could not follow that path. There, lay dragons.
Aurum shrugged. "I didn't think you were. But. Like I said. I'm not perfect."
"Not a big deal, though." He kept on. "I can take a joke." After all, he'd thought earlier when she'd been joking about it that she couldn't have been serious. Why had it been a sore subject just now?
Oh well. Apparently, it had needed bringing up. "Sorry." And now, suddenly, he felt bad for shrugging about it all and taking it like it was a big deal.

He could take a joke.
Well good. Because for a while there it hadn’t seemed like he could. The situation was strange though, and Riley could openly acknowledge (at least to herself) that it was probably because nobody had ever accused her of being perfect. There was no way for her to empathize here.
Still. A boundary had been set, and Riley would respect it.
Aurum apologized and Riley shook her head, ”It’s alright. I’m glad you told me.” she said, mildly surprised that she meant it and wondering when she’d stop being surprised.
It was probably time to move on. She nodded at the cups Aurum had poured.
He'd been worried there for a split second. Because the whole conversation's mood had flatlined. Like the after they came down off the sugar high they'd surely have, post-brownie snack. But. This was better.
He supposed it was better.
He wasn't sure.
He guessed he'd needed to say it. So.
... Moving on?
"Coffee." He replied discretely. "You'll like it. Try some." It should be her favorite, after all. Or at least, the stuff he made her before. His mood lightened like a smile spreading across a face, and he added. "I'll even let you guess what it is."

This was more like it.
Aurum wasn’t going to tell her what kind of coffee she was about to drink…but he knew she’d like it.
He’d even let her guess. More like let her make a fool out of herself when she had no clue what she was drinking.
Experimentally, Riley took a sip. It was good…it was warm…and not too bitter. It wasn’t too mild though, either. French roast, if Riley wasn’t mistaken.
She voiced her guess. ”It’s the stuff you make when I show up at the Full Circle. French Roast.”
Aurum nodded, and Riley grinned, pleased with herself.

Riley could smell the brownies as soon as Aurum took them out of the oven and she instantly knew why people sometimes preferred the homemade kind to the ones that came out of the box. If they were cooked right, they ended up looking and smelling like these.
Setting her cup down with a clink as Aurum set the brownies down in front of her, Riley couldn’t help but lick her lips looking at them.
”Do we have to let them cool first?” was all she could ask. She had even forgotten about the glaze.
