The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

”It is.” Riley said, letting her other arm drop so now they were both at her sides.
”So, now what?” She asked, eyes on the floor as she waited for the proverbial shoe to drop. Even if everything else wasn’t an issue…she’d just ran out of his place like a spoiled sixteen year old.

Riley’s first instinct was to run. To physically turn around and run for the doors. If she didn’t answer the question, Aurum couldn’t judge her. He wanted to know if they’d been ‘playing’ this as a date.
They’d been flirting, hadn’t they? They’d been eating, and listening to jazz, and they’d ridden the motorcycle. Riley could feel herself starting to panic, her heart beating in her throat.
”I….” she said, then licked her lips and wished she had a glass of water. Yes. A glass of water in the middle of the hall.
Oh this was ridiculous. Riley was a grown woman who knew what she wanted, and didn’t let anyone intimidate her. Especially not with a simple question.
”I think that’s where it had gone…for me.” she admitted, finally looking Aurum in the eye and almost challenging him to say something about it.

"Okay, good." He said. "Because that's what it should have been." If he hadn't agreed to playing 'friends' with her like some sort of putz, and acted all friendly, when it was obvious... obvious that... "I tried asking you out before, you know." Aurum noted.
It was obvious then that he liked her. Even if he'd gotten drunk at some point (that was still kind of hazy) and called her friends ****ing ******s. Or had that been the far tamer, 'old hags'. He couldn't recall.

It seemed like all the air left Riley in a ‘WHOOSH’. She hadn’t been holding her breath, but the sigh of relief she let out was just a little too obviously a sigh of relief. She didn’t blush, or that would have been happening too.
He’d asked her out before. Probably, but…
”I…guess I can be a little stubborn sometimes.” Riley admitted.
”So….” That question again. Riley looked past Aurum at the door to his apartment. Three was a crowd…especially at a time like this. "About that pasta."
Aurum offered her a burly smile. "I know the feeling."
Stubbornness helped, sometimes. When it came to not giving up on something crazy, like asking someone out. Or pursuing something to its critical end.
>>”So….
So...
>>"About that pasta."
"Hm." Svetlana was still in the apartment. Probably confused as all hell as to what had just happened. It was a pretty easy feeling to be. "I guess we could do that. I'd have to introduce you to my roommate, though." He gave her a searching look. But there was a hint of humor in it. "We'd have to stubborn out ways through the experience."

Aurum said that he knew the feeling and Riley nodded, still a little skeptical. He hadn’t thrown her admission back in her face, but it was so hard for her to trust this whole thing.
What had just happened anyway? Apparently they’d been on a date…then Riley had tried (and succeeded) in making an ass of herself, but somewhere in the course of all that…they’d both admitted that they were on a date.
They were on a date.
Oh God. That was a good thing, right? Aurum was actually interested in her. Why was Aurum interested in her?
Well. There was nothing to do but run with it now, and when Aurum teased her, Riley couldn’t help but smile and shake her head a little bit.
”I could handle that.” Riley said, never one to balk at a challenge.
”Now. Before, not so much…but now would be okay.”
”Besides. That spaghetti really is too good to let it go to waste.”

Aurum smiled.
Good. She hadn't balked. He would have thought pretty low of her if she had.
"Mhm," He agreed. "Can't have that."
Without further ado, he led her back to his apartment. On another day, he might've offered her his arm, but not just now... might've been too soon. After all, this was their first date, wasn't it? First. Official.
It was kind of a big deal.
The door to the apartment opened and Aurum and Riley stepped back inside.
"Sorry about that, Svetlana." Aurum smiled. "Go ahead. Help yourself to the food. Ami made dinner for everyone." He didn't bring up anything about the awkward plot Amelia had had with that dinner for Svetlana. Honestly, he didn't think she would be happy about that. They could talk about that later. After Riley was out of shouting distance and safe.
"By the way, this is Riley." He gestured to Riley. "Riley. Svetlana." There. Introductions, done.
Sveta blinked, surprised, as the woman - wait, she knew her from... - brushed past her and out of the apartment, Aurum running after her. Uh-oh. That looked like a date gone bad. Standing in the hallway, she was not entirely sure what she was supposed to do; she felt out of place. Well, she was out of place. This was not her apartment.
By the time they returned, she was in the living room, still standing, not sure what she was supposed to do; she had a light blush on her cheeks.
>>"Sorry about that, Svetlana. Go ahead. Help yourself to the food. Ami made dinner for everyone. By the way, this is Riley. Riley. Svetlana."
Well, the dinner thing was awkward. This was obviously a date. But the girl?
Sveta smiled.
"I think we have met before" she said, holding out a hand to Riley anyway "You cancel my powers."

Aurum led, and Riley followed, back to the awkwardness that was his apartment. His roommate was there still, and now that she was taking the time to look instead of running, the woman looked very familiar.
She spoke, and the accent, and the words brought it home. Apparently she was doing that thing she did where she cancelled out mutant powers without knowing it again.
”The elevator at Macy’s….” she said by way of recognition, reaching out to return the hand shake. ”Small world.”
Riley thought for a moment about the powers and then nodded her head. ”Coffee buzz, right?”
She turned to Aurum. ”We were stuck in an elevator for a couple hours once.”
Now. Where was that spaghetti she’d left sitting on the table?

"Guess that makes two of us." Aurum noted. He'd been stuck in an elevator with Riley, too. "Small world, indeed."
Aurum made his way back over to the table, plucking his piece of bread up off his tray. Surprisingly, he hadn't even touched it. He promptly got to stuffing his face. Aurum gestured at the table for them to do likewise.
"Y'know, coffee would be good too." He took a moment to finish chewing his food... after saying that. Gulped. "Does anyone want some?"

Oh man. Were Riley’s cheeks ever pink. She’d made the situation outrageously uncomfortable for everyone…except apparently Aurum, who was offering coffee. Damn him.
Shooting a mild glare in his direction, and turning to smile in what she hoped was an apologetic way at the blond woman, Riley shook her head.
”Everyone has rough times. I totally get it.” she allowed, mildly amused at how much easier it was to be nice to the woman now that Aurum had said there was nothing going on between the two of them. Sure, he could have been lying…but that seemed in such solid opposition to everything else he ever did, that Riley simply couldn’t believe it.
Svetlana said she had to go…and for a moment Riley considered letting her. There were probably still things that needed said between her and Aurum that weren’t going to be said in front of anyone else…but Riley found herself shaking her head.
”You really don’t have to go…” she said, then smiled at Aurum. ”And actually I’d love some coffee.”
Well... he supposed it would be a good idea. All birds need to leave the nest eventually, even during the roughest of times. And he sure wasn't going to cage her, and prevent her from spreading her wings.
That was a creepy image.
>>"I need to go. I still have... stuff to do."
Aurum returned the smile politely, and raised her an understanding nod.
He opened his mouth to tell her good bye, but Riley cut him off.
He blinked. Such a change in moods. She was trying to keep up. Show she could handle it. But...
He smiled at Riley. "If she has to go, let her go. Bye Svetlana. Let me get to that coffee..." On his way to the kitchen, he paused, turned, and announced to Svetlana. "By the way. I'll tell you later just how grounded Ami is." With that, he vanished into the kitchen to fetch Riley's brew.
