The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Aurum smirked.
"I'm not going to give you the answer. That's cheating. Like I said. It's just something you have to figure out for yourself. Besides."
Besides. "I'm really terrible at these sorts of point-blank 'point out your weaknesses' questions." Really sucks in job interviews when all you can say is 'my only weakness is caring too much~'

Excepting the fact that he’d just kind of pointed out a weakness, Aurum still contested that he had none. Riley didn’t count that one either, not being able to find a weakness in yourself was not an acceptable weakness.
She grinned. This was not her usual kind of flirting (if that’s what this was) but there was something really…fun about it. They were talking about fun things, while doing something fun. There was no aggression. They were just having…fun.
”You’re on.” she said. Unable to resist the challenge. ”It’s my goal from now on to find something you’re bad at.”
”And I’ll find out too. No matter how hard I have to work or how long it takes.”
Truth be told…she kind of hoped it would take a while. The oddity of the whole situation hit her in that moment and she chided herself a bit.
Here she was, sitting at Aurum’s table, eating the food his sister had made, and practically giggling like a school girl. What was wrong with her? Aurum was far too charming and well-bred and sweet to be interested in her, and she was basically throwing herself at him. (At least as far as she ever threw herself at anyone.) Despite what some third graders thought, words could not be taken back, but Riley vowed to reign herself in from now on.
She smiled, and ate spaghetti, willing him to fill the silence.

Probably five minutes…
Briefly, Riley wondered if she’d read him wrong. Aurum had said that he had trouble pointing out his own flaws…but did that actually mean he didn’t think he had any? The topic was dead, though, and she couldn’t find any way to ask without sounding ridiculous, so Riley simply settled for eating more spaghetti and keeping her mouth shut.
The silence seemed almost deafening after the rousing conversation they’d been having, even if the smooth jazz was still wafting out from wherever Aurum had gone to sort it out. Riley didn’t want to be the one to break that silence…but.
”So is Ami you’re only sibling?” she found herself asking, almost unbidden. ”Brothers and sisters are such a strange thing to me…I’m an only child.”

"Yeah," Aurum replied.
So she was an only child? Did that mean she got to be spoiled by her parents, with no fights over who was most-loved? "I'd say lucky," Aurum joked. "But despite all her trouble (and the fact that she's evil), I don't think things would be the same without her."
Had he just waxed sentimental over his little sister? Yeah. Probably. Did it matter? Not really. He was having a good time.

Lucky?
”Nah.” she admitted. ”I was lonely as a kid, and kind of just ran around on my own once I was grown up.”
Share, share, share, all she was doing was talking about herself. But, it was kind of nice. Riley never really talked about herself. Aurum seemed willing to listen too.
”My mom had her own life, and kind of did her own thing once I was old enough to take care of myself.”
Sveta heard the music before she opened the door. She hesitated for a brief moment... was this another one of Ami's schemes? It sounded dreadfully romantic. Uh-oh.
Still. She was still living in this apartment, for the time being. She stood in the door for a moment, considering her options. There really weren't any. Apart from calling Jude, but... she wanted to leave that for last. For multiple reasons.
So, opening the door, Sveta walked in.

A key turned in a lock and the door opened and closed. Had Aurum’s sister returned to track her meal’s progress? The first meeting had been awkward, but Riley knew she could do better. The kid had done a really good job, after all.
…only that wasn’t the girl who walked into view from the entryway of the apartment.
This was a blond. A real pretty blond that struck some chord of recognition in Riley’s head, but she wasn’t thinking about that. All she was thinking was.
”I’m such an idiot.” she muttered.
All the pieces were falling into place now. The dinner hadn’t been for her at all. The dinner had been for Aurum and this…this…blond. He was simply humoring her. The fact that this scenario made absolutely no sense when one considered that Aurum had invited her over in the first place didn’t occur to Riley. The only thing that occurred to her was that she’d misread a lot. A lot. Of course she’d misread a lot. She’d just been warning herself.
”I have to go.” she said, standing and pushing her way past what was probably a very confused blond. Her purse was by the door, and Riley hesitated slightly to grab it before making her way into the hallway.

Aurum blinked.
It all happened so fast. He could hardly track everything. The door opened. Svetlana wandered in. Riley muttered something about idiot, then bolted. Conclusions had been drawn hastily. What was it Holmes used to say about conclusions? That they made an ass of you and me? Well, no, but... that was basically the gist of it.
Aurum swept past Svetlana, out the door.
"Riley, wait. Hold up." He called after her. She had to stop. This was illogical. She had the wrong idea! He had no idea what idea she had in her head, but it was the wrong one. "What's wrong?" He asked.

He wanted her to stop. Aurum had come out of the apartment and was asking her to stop.
What’s wrong.
What was wrong? Riley slowed and turned.
”Nothing. Nothing is wrong.” It was all her fault. She’d let herself fall into the trap of thinking that someone like Aurum would be interested in someone like her as anything other than a friendly novelty.
Her cheeks burned…she was so embarrassed. She’d spent years watching what happened to girls who did things like this.
”I just need to go. I don’t want to interrupt the dinner that was supposed to be.”

"Supposed to be?" Supposed to be? He repeated the words in his head.
Supposed to be. Had Ami been.
So, this was...
This whole thing had been...
He slapped his forehead. He'd realized too late. "Ugh. I'm such an idiot." Aurum muttered. "Grounded. She is so. Grounded. When I tell mom and dad about this. Look." The hand slid down and settled somewhere by his side. Nobody was looking at the hand now, though. The look on his face was much more interesting. Serious. Dead serious. Not even a trace of apologetic. Why would he be. "This is all a big mistake. I got set up. My little sister is going through a 'matchmaker phase', like she always does. And... Svetlana is just a roommate. A friend of a friend."
So, wait. Did this make Riley... Jealous?
Had they been flirting this whole time?
"I'm sorry you got the wrong idea, but... Svetlana is just a friend. Ami brought her home and begged me to help her out." And he said yes. He was a freaking idiot. "I guess we found a fault."

Yeah. He was an idiot.
Somehow he’d thought that he could pull this whole thing off. Somehow he thought he could bring her back to his place, feed her, and not expect her to realize that there was a blond with a key to his apartment. At some point they’d gone to the ‘friend’ dinner, to Aurum plotting to feed two women at the same time.
It was unconscionable. Riley was about to say so, when Aurum started to explain.
His sister was going through a matchmaking…phase? He’d been set up…and Svetlana (of course she was exotically foreign) was simply a friend of a friend who had needed a place to stay.
A likely story.
Riley gave Aurum a skeptical look, arms crossed. She had a problem.
If she was mollified by this explanation, she had to admit that she’d been mad about the previous insinuation. That put Aurum in a position of power…a huge position of power. There were so many things a person could do when they knew things about you, and she’d just told him so much.
He said they’d found a fault.
”Care to elaborate?” she asked, one eyebrow arching, and hopefully buying her some time.

"Too trusting." He replied, monosyllabic. "Thought my little sister wasn't trying to set me up. Trusted her. And. Look where it got me." Evil. Evil. Little girl.
"But seriously," He went on. "It's not what you think. There's nothing. And... she was in trouble, so..." His voice lost a bit of the tension as he explained, got softer. He frowned. "She was living with my boss and her family. But there's currently an investigation about that. She went missing, and... I don't have all the details. But it left Svetlana with a crime scene for a home. Ami begged me. Told me that. So... I took her in. And... I wouldn't go back and change that. She needed help."
Was that another fault? That he was just... too good? Well dammit, it was a fault worth having. It was humanity. He gave Riley a good long hard look to see what she thought of that.

Riley wilted a bit under the look that Aurum was giving her. Why did he have to do that, and why did it matter to her? Riley had seen meaner looks on men’s faces. They’d also been meaner. Much meaner.
Maybe that was it.
Aurum’s voice got soft instead of loud, and Riley listened.
His boss, (at the coffee shop?) was missing, there was some sort of investigation. Svetlana had been staying with them and Ami had begged him. Then started trying to set him up.
He had explained to her…it was almost like he wanted her to approve.
Riley let one arm drop, the other grasping her upper arm across her chest. She didn’t know what to say.
