The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gawain rarely ever paid a visit to anyone the proper way - the 'porper way' being, according to general agreement, 'through the door'. He was a mirrorwalker. 'nuff said.
So this time, when he decided to pay a visit to a certain British fire-spirit, he walked in through the mirror. As usual. But, because he was such a gentleman, he knocked first.
"Kate?"
Maybe she was not decent. Gawain didn't look; he just knocked again, and then backed out of the mirror, giving her time to... do whatever girls do before they open a door. He counted to ten, and then he walked into Kate's mirror again, and peeked in. "Hi..."
Kate's room appeared absolutely empty. One may have even assumed that no one was home if it hadn't been for the music playing from the ipod dock. Well that, and the racket that was coming from the closet.
Kate's closet was an add on to the room after the fact. When her mother had told Sam she was paying to 'fix' the room she hadn't been kidding. She actaully would have knocked out the wall and made the room next door part of the existing room if he had let her, but thankfully he didn't. So, Kate now had a closet that took up about 6 1/2 feet of the room and extended all the way along the shorter wall. It was filled to the brim with her shoes and dresses and other various clothing items and Kate was now sitting in the center of it, staring at them.
Why the hell was this so hard? Kate knew some girls spent hours picking out clothes, but she had never been one of them. You would think by looking at the amount of clothes she had she would be but no. She was the toss something on and look fabulous girl. The girl other girls hated because they didn't have to do much to look perfect. Granted Kate had no idea she was one of these girls and would likely have felt really bad if she did.
"Ballocks." Kate yelled in exasperation and fell back onto the pile of clothes in defeat, staring at the white ceiling.
The room looked like as if something had exploded in there. Something stuffed with clothes. There were clothes everywhere. Clothes in the... was that the biggest closet he'd ever seen? Clothes on the bed, clothes on the chairs, clothes on the floor. It was a scene that was just begging to be set on fire. Uh. Bad idea. That was actually an option here.
"Kate?" he called out again; the music was quite loud, maybe she didn't hear. Stepping out of the mirror, he walked closer to the pile of clothes, and the girl lying on top of it. She looked exhausted. Tossing around that many clothes, she was bound to be.
Gawain smirked, and leaned in, looking down at Kate's face upside down.
Kate looked up at Gawain as he leaned over her and make a scrunchy, distasteful face, "And I gave up."
Kate sat up the clothes around her flying off in different directions and she looked around the messy room, "I never realized how many clothes I have, and yes I still have nothing to wear. I mean what does one wear to the symphony? And for that matter, is it a date or not a date? I mean if it's a date then one should try to look attractive but not overdo it and if it's not I don't' want to assume it is and dress thee wrong way. I mean clothes really do send a message." Kate looked around again, assessing all of her options before turning to Gawain, "Do you want to come shopping with me?"
Gawain blinked, and listened to the rant. Kate was all flushed, which was not really usual for the fire girl who was always cold. Boy, the dressing issue really freaked her out. No wonder; looking around, he decided he couldn't choose from all that either, not in a million years.
>>"Do you want to come shopping with me?"
"What... oh." he shrugged "Sure, why not. I mean, you just need to figure out where to put any more clothes... maybe you could use one of the storage rooms." he added with a friendly grin, offering a hand to help her up.
"You are going on a date, aren't you." he noted "Do I know him?"
>>What... oh. Sure, why not. I mean, you just need to figure out where to put any more clothes... maybe you could use one of the storage rooms.
Kate took his hand and he helped lift her off the ground. She noted that his hand felt like ice which meant she probably should lower her body temperature before she burned him or something, "Ha Ha very funny."
>>You are going on a date, aren't you. Do I know him?
"His name is Andrew. I believe you met him when I did, on the day I arrived here." Kate pulled out a dress and bounded into the closet closing the door behind her so she could change.
>>"His name is Andrew. I believe you met him when I did, on the day I arrived here."
"Oh, the promise guy. He seemed nice." Gawain grinned, sitting down onto the bed as she disappeared into the closet. Narnia jokes bounced around in his head; he bit them back. He looked at his hand; Kate's touch was warm, like touching something just out of the oven.
"So, did he really ask you out? Is that what the dress thing is all about?" he asked, looking around. There were plenty of dresses around that would have been more than great for a first date, in his opinion - then again, he did take Twyla out the first time in sweaters and jeans. He smiled.
>>So, did he really ask you out? Is that what the dress thing is all about?
"See that is the thing I don't know. I am not sure if he asked me simply because he had an extra ticket and I was there or because he wanted me to go with him. I mean he had no idea I liked music before he asked me." There was a bang as Kate closed a drawer from inside of the closet.
>>Kate, are you cold?
"Cold? Why would I be cold?" Kate walked out of the closet tying the bow on the dress and settled into the chair at her vanity. She had deemed to add gray wool tights and her yellow Rupert Sanderson pumps.
"Well... ya're goin' out with a guy. Best assume it's a date." he smirked; then the smirk grew into a grin as he watched her walk out of the closet. She was very pretty, he had to give her that. And the fact that she managed to summon that prettyness within a few short mintues made it all the more miraculous.
>>"Cold? Why would I be cold?"
"Cause it's, like, five hundred degrees in here." he answered, taking off his sweatshirt. "I know, I know. Comes with the powers. I just figured, the weather gettin' colder must be hard for you."
He sat back and waited for her to get ready. There was no need to rush those things. They'd be spending most of the day shopping anyway. Gawain was half girl. He knew that much.
>>Cause it's, like, five hundred degrees in here. I know, I know. Comes with the powers. I just figured, the weather gettin' colder must be hard for you.
Kate looked at Gawain in the mirror and smiled at him, "Oh aren't you sweet. And to tell you the truth, I have no idea. Once we start to get into actual winter weather I tend to retract. I stay inside and don't go out at all, for the most part. I am hoping to try something different this year. Though I am a little worried about when it gets colder. I have to wear wool coats in 50 degree weather. How am I going to survive when it is 30?"
Kate put on her pearls and touched up anything out of place before turning to Gawain with a smile.
>>"Though I am a little worried about when it gets colder. I have to wear wool coats in 50 degree weather. How am I going to survive when it is 30?"
"You can..." Gawain paused "... stay inside?" he finished off with a smirk; he really had no idea how he'd deal with something like that. "Maybe we could find a way to keep you warm outside..." he shrugged "I bet the X's can come up with something. We have a jet, for god's sake."
She was finished, and she looked very pretty.
"Ready to go, princess?" he asked with a grin, standing up "Somehow I feel this quest for the proper dress ain't gonna be an easy one..."
>>You can...stay inside? Maybe we could find a way to keep you warm outside..I bet the X's can come up with something. We have a jet, for god's sake.
Kate had never imagined such a thought. Could they really make something that would give her the ability to be outside in the harsh winter weather? She had never been able to go outside without having to cover ever piece of skin if it got below 40. When she was young her mother had always told her better safe then sorry when she had asked to go outside and she had always thought her mother was right.
"Can they really come up with something to protect me from the air?" Kate walked over to the wardrobe that held the things that didn't fit in her closet, her coats. She had a collection as she had to wear them for a good portion of the year.
>>Ready to go, princess? Somehow I feel this quest for the proper dress ain't gonna be an easy one...
"Just need a jacket and we can be off." Just as she was about to grab the necessary items required to go outside it dawned on her, she hadn't called David to drive them, as neither of them knew how, "Oh ballocks. Pass me that phone please." She indicated to her cell phone, which was sitting on the night stand next to Gawain. The one he had thankfully helped her pick out when she had unfortunately broken hers in an accident.
>>"Can they really come up with something to protect me from the air?"
"I have no clue." Gawain shrugged "I don't know half of the stuff the grown-up X's can do. Probably for the better." he added with a grin. It was good to believe the team had all kinds of awesom secrets. And that he would get to know all of them one day.
>>"Just need a jacket and we can be off. Oh ballocks. Pass me that phone please."
Gawain picked up the phone, and walked over ot her with a smirk. "I dunno if it's a good idea. The last one didn't end all that well."
He handed her the phone; she looked anxious to go. Picking out clothes for a date. That usually made girls anxious.
>>I dunno if it's a good idea. The last one didn't end all that well.
Kate gave him a joking look that said something along the lines of 'Shut up you.' and took the phone out of his hand. She dialed the number she had grown to know and let it ring.
"Hello, David?... Yes please... See you in a moment." Kate smiled and hung up the phone and handed it back to Gawain, "He will meet us downstairs in 10 minutes."
Kate turned back to the wardrobe and pulled out a coat, scarf and gloves.
Kate sorely regretted turning around when she saw what she had done to her room, "It is times like these when I really wish I still had Maria. Oh well," She turned to Gawain and offered him her glove clad hand, "Shall we go and meet David?"
>>"It is times like these when I really wish I still had Maria. Oh well, Shall we go and meet David?"
"We shall" Gawain nodded, putting his sweatshirt back on "I gotta get used to bein' around you, Kate. Drivers, maids, butlers. Seriously. What happened to usin' the subway?"
He was just teasing her. True, their childhood had been very different from each other, and so was the family background - but he was not really thinking about any of that, he concentrated more on the things they had in common. And, most of all, on cheering Kate up, and making her feel less lonely.
"You have any idea where we are going?" he asked as they walked outside. Maybe Kate had her favorite fashion stores, or whatever. It was probably a normal thing for people who actually used the front door when they went shopping for clothes...
