The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Sneaking back into the mansion was a piece of cake, somehow the wolf girl wasn't even detected by most of the other students. This was a good thing because Emerald didn't have to explain her new appearance to any of them, a fact she was thankful for. She was taller now, five foot eleven to be exact and her muscles were more defined than they had been when she left. Not only this but there was also a huge wound on her cheek that looked as if some wild animal attacked her. Deep gouges in her Right cheek that didn't heal when she was injected with the serum. Miss Shift had mentioned that the serum typically only healed the more severe wounds, meaning her cheek would have to heal on its own or with Doc's help.
Emerald sat down on the mansion's couch, yawning from exhaustion, she hadn't been sleeping that well. Though, it was understandable considering that whenever she went to bed all she could think about was the attack and Bloodfangs ugly maw salivating over her as she screamed for help. Emerald didn't know how long it would take her to get over this, it was almost as bad as the first attack only this time, he attacked far too close to home. Not really paying attention to what was around her the wolf girl slid her large backpack from her shoulder, taking out the ham sandwich she had saved from her parents house. Amidst eating it, she wondered how everyone was, originally Emerald and Ruby were only supposed to be gone for a weekend, but Emerald ended up gone for around four weeks and Ruby for two. The wolf girl knew her younger sister hadn't said anything about the attack her older sibling went under at the hands of Bloodfang. She did know however, that her parents had been looking for her when she didn't come home that night from the mainland and they called the mansion in frenzy looking for her only to call back a few days later, making up some lie that Emerald was fine.
Even though it wasn't true, Emerald would try to make it look like it was. She couldn't let anyone know of what happened, she didn't want them to worry about her, they had their own things to worry about, let alone one of their friends nearly dieing. I will just have to keep it a secret Emerald concluded, taking another bite of her sandwich.
Maya stood in the door of the living room, hands on her hips, glaring daggers at her sister. She usually looked more feminine when she was pissed, and she usually didn't notice it. Because, well, she was pissed.
"The hell have you been?!" she demanded, marching closer to the sitting girl. Once she got close enough, and the fog lifted (the fog created by equal part of anger and worry and confusion), she stopped in her tracks, looking her over.
"Ems?" she asked, a tad more quietly "Are you all right?..."
She had been gone for weeks. Hell of a lot happened during that time. A neural bomb, for example. And every day Mirror had to think about what would happen if she'd lose her new family just like she'd lost the first one. It was not a pleasant thought.
That yell, that loud yell made Emerald wince, her tail drooping down between her legs a little like a wounded animal. She was in trouble, she was defiantly in big trouble with her new pack mate. A sheepish grin crept across the wolf girl's face as she switched into her normal mode of the how she would usually act. Emerald had figured someone would yell at her for being gone for a while, so she quickly brushed her hair over her ear, just so maya wouldn't see the fact that part of the tip was missing.
"What are ya giving me that look for I'm fine!" Emerald grinned, hopping to avoid any and all conversation about the differences in her appearance. "Just fought a few guys and got a bit scuffed up is all, no big deal. So whats been going on here?"
If there was one thing the Lupin family was good at, it was covering up the truth. Emerald's parents had been doing it for years and the Lupin sisters had picked up on it in order to protect themselves. It was an old habit of Emerald's to hide the hurt and pain she felt, in order to not allow people to worry about her. So she hid it, making her body language seem more relaxed and talking in her normal joking tone she would always take. It had worked for years so why wouldn't it work now?
>>"What are ya giving me that look for I'm fine! Just fought a few guys and got a bit scuffed up is all, no big deal. So whats been going on here?"
Maya was not buying it. Not for one second.
"What's been goin' on is you've been missing for FOUR WEEKS." she summarized, eyes narrowing at the wolf "Ain't no bad guy out there who can hold ya down that long. So."
Maya walked over to Emerald and plopped down onto the couch next to her "How 'bout ya tell me the truth."
She didn't look fine. May anoticed it. The scar on her face, and the fact that she looked... stronger.
"Believe it or not, I don' appreciate my family going m.i.a. on me all over again."
A low growl escaped the she wolfs throat before she was able to stop it. This was what Shift had talked about when she mentioned the feral side of Emerald coming out more often. The wolf girl placed her sandwich down calmly, trying her best to keep her cool. She didn't want to get mad at anyone, especially not Maya. Her eyes were at first filled with irritation but they softened, realizing her friend just didn't want to be without a family once again. Taking a deep breathe and counting backwards, Emerald managed to calm herself down.
"Look, I did exactly what i did last time I went MIA for a while, I went down to town, heard for some guys that had been roughing up the town along with other parts of Florida, I went looking for them for a week or two and then when I found them, got pretty beat up because they had a damn Tiger shifter with them and was out of commission for another week before visiting my parents for the last week. " Emerald explained, letting out a sigh. This story, while false this time was actually true for one of the previous trips she made to Florida. Emerald told it fairly easilly for it was a true story, just not true this time around. She then grinned again, looking a bit excited, "Though I did go through a power growth, I'm a full fledged werewolf now. I'm kinda sad about not having my water powers anymore but on the bright side I could probably bench press someone your size and not even get tired."
This was one way for her to cover up the incident that caused her to loose her water control abilities forever. It actually upset her greatly about loosing her powers, making her feel naked almost but while she didn't have her water abilities anymore she still had a powerful connection to ocean itself that was more of a spiritual thing rather than a mutation. Emerald grabbed her sandwich and took another bite with her longer and sharper teeth, tearing into it easily. Emerald silently hoped that Maya wouldn't inquire to much more on the incident.
Hunting bad guys, getting beaten up, wandering around - yeah, that sounded pretty much like Emmy's usual self. Maya watched the wolf girl eat. She wondered why she didn't feel like everything was all right at all.
"Your parents called in" she said quietly "They were looking for you."
Let's see if you can explain that too
"I was too. You could have called."
Great I'm starting to sound like my mother. Who am I kidding. I wish I would sound like my mother.
>>"Though I did go through a power growth, I'm a full fledged werewolf now. I'm kinda sad about not having my water powers anymore but on the bright side I could probably bench press someone your size and not even get tired."
"Impressive" Maya smirked "We gotta try that sometime."
That was the easy part, and she needed a moment of sience before she guessed the other.
"You lost your water powers?..." she asked, much more quiet and serious "Ems?..."
The whole thing with her parents, Emerald knew would be a bit harder to cover up. She hadnt expected Maya to overhear that call made they made to the Mansion. Though this was mirroring an incident not to long ago, so perhaps she would be able to still pull this off.
"Yeah...I kinda have a habit of not telling anyone when I'm doing stuff like that, not even the rents because I just don't want them to worry and if something does happen," Emerald paused, her eyes looking down for a moment. "Then no one else will get hurt. I don't want someone to get hurt because of my own thick headedness." Emerald admitted smiling weakly. With the water power question it was harder, remembering her mothers former Ice manipulation powers, she managed to come up with a good way of saying how she lost them. "Yeah, my elemental powers, unlike my sisters, were like my mom's, synthetic as all hell. Basically, when we overuse them they start to get weaker and with me I ended up falling into the Ocean, making a big tidal wave and Crashing into the bad guys hide out. Problem was, that was apparently all my body could take cause I passed out right after I did that ad when I woke up, Shift told me I didn't have my water powers anymore."
While she was lying to one of her closet friends and it made her feel like a real ass, she felt as if she had to. Emerald didn't want Maya to go on a rampage, all because of what happened to her. Sapphire was already doing a good job of that herself. The wolf girl looked a bit out of it though and something still didn't seem right, whether it was a certain tenseness in her voice or the fact she occasionally sniffed around to see if anyone was coming, something wasnt right.
Maya listened quietly; she listened to the wrods being said, but she paid more attention to the way Emmy talked, and behaved. She had changed in the past weeks, and she had changed a lot. Loosing her water powers, syntetic or not, must have been hard, Maya could tell that much. She could imagine how it would feel like, losing her shifting or the mirrorwalking. She shuddered at the thought.
Something was off. If it really was only a bunch of bad guys, Emerald wouldn't have acted the way she did. Maya could tell the wolf was hiding something, she just didn't know how to call the bluff.
"All right." she said finally with a sigh "Let's say I believe you." she looked at the wolf "I'm just glad you're back. I missed you." she smiled "And whenever ya wanna come up with somethin you forgot to tell me... feel free to talk."
Lifting her head she touched Emmy's chin to look at the scar. "Some scar ya got yourself, girl" she shook her head with a small smirk "Just tell me this one's the worst."
Noticing that Maya was still wary of her words Emerald inwardly cursed herself. She hated being unable to hide things better, this was one one of those times she wished she was more like Sapphire and could hide things better. When the finger touched her chin, for a split second Emerald winced a tiny flash of pain across her face. There seemed to be more wounds than the wolf girl was showing a few bruises on her neck, covered by make up, something Emerald never wore. It was quickly wiped away and replaced with that same smile though a little more nevous now.
"Yeah, this ones the worse, Im probably gonna get Doc to actually heal this one." Emerald replied, wiping away the nervousness from her smile replaced by a more relaxed one. "Though one did manged to knick the tip of my ear" Emerald grimaced a little at the thought, pulling her hair behind her ear to show where the tip of it had been bitten off. It could easily be blamed on the Tiger morpher she "Fought" but the bitemark looked a little bit deeper than it should have. Not only this but Emerald seemed to be favoring her right arm, which was common because Emerald was right handed, the odd thing was though, she usually gestured more with her left hand.
>>"Yeah, this ones the worse, Im probably gonna get Doc to actually heal this one. Though one did manged to knick the tip of my ear"
Maya noticed the wince and the other telltale signes: Emmy was banged up as ever. She shook her head with a smirk again. Same old, same old. She knew that feeling all too well.
Examining the ear, Maya frowned, but the frown soon turned into a grin, no need to fret over the wolf girl, she didn't like that.
"I betcha that'll earn you a new nickname in no time." she chuckled "I mean, besides the ones Doc's gonna call you when he finds out. I barly got out of the Infirmary alive last time he healed me..."
The nagging feeling grew stronger: something was not right with Emerald. Maya kept talking, hoping to lighten the mood, and keep the wolf girl company. She'll start talking, sooner or later. Hopefully...

His weight shifted as he carried Kara the pink-eared vanishing girl in his arms. She was asleep for the most part and the fact that she wasn’t feeling to great didn’t help much either. He told her father he would keep a special watch over her when she was sick and he stuck by his words even if it meant lack of sleep for him. She threw up in class and had a fever, Sam sighed slightly as he adjusted the temperature around them. It was cooler and his hands were even colder. ”Well you got out of class alright… if that was your plan you succeeded…” Sam said with a smirk as the girl nuzzled her head a bit closer to Sam’s chest.
She had what Alex and a Haley had told him a schoolgirl crush on Sam, which didn’t make things any easier when she was sick. She was insistent on clinging to him for some reason when her fever spiked, trying to play oblivious he chalked it up to the fact that he was a giant icepack.
She laughed weakly and shook her head “I like class…” Sam laughed and adjusted his hand on her back, ”No one likes class…” speaking of, his eye shifted as he passed the opening to the living room and he spotted Maya, most likely skipping class again and then there was Emerald someone who had been missing for what was it… the better part of a month by now? He knew that they visited their parents on occasion but he found it a bit odd when Ruby returned without her sister.
He frowned at her appearance; she was bulkier and her hair was longer, looking more and more like her werewolf form. He had never seen it in person but he had seen enough of her in the danger room simulations even if he never made mention to anyone of it. ”Good to see you Emmy,” Sam said trying to sound pleasant even if they never did have the best encounters when they met. He shifted Kara slightly who was asleep now her fever seeming to have broken it’s hold on her. For he could feel the temperature shift that took place in his hands.
Walking closer to the pair on the couch for a moment he looked to Maya first, ”Don’t you have class and you turn in your paper yet? I see enough of your English professor during faculty meetings I don’t want him coming to see me because you haven’t turned in an assignment…” Sam said with a smirk directed at Maya before it faded to notice Emmy’s cheek, ”Care to explain what happened?” Sam asked with concern on his voice as he looked from one to the other coming to the conclusion he interrupted girl talk.
Somehow Emerald managed to dodge a bullet with Maya, the girl not questioning her condition any more than she needed too. It was a good thing too, Emerald was starting to have the urge to tell her friend the truth in order to avoid another alcohol confession session. A low groan escaped the werewolf's throat when she thought about what Doc was gonna do to her when he found out about how bad she messed up this time.
"Hes probably gonna threaten to Spay me," Emerald replied with a small laugh, "Or hes gonna whack me with a Newspaper." Emerald laughed a little at that, these thoughts clearly putting her in a better mood.
This was before a semi familiar scent wafted into the room along with a not so familiar scent. The familiar scent however, wasn't comforting for her, for two reasons, One it was Male and Two it was a male that she had gotten into a confrontation with before. Emerald's gaze turned to the male and her body tensed visibly, even as he spoke pleasantries to her. If she was in wolf form she would be on alert, ready for something to happen. Taking deep breathes, Emerald began to calm herself down, he was holding a pup, even if he tried he couldn't do anything to her without hurting the pup. Managing to relax a little, the female spoke very calmly.
"Good to see you too, Sam," Emerald told him, trying to look somewhat pleasant. "I just got into a scuffle thats all, big ole tiger mutant tore into my cheek, big idiot tried to mug me but I managed to knock him out before calling the police. Had to stay in the hospital for a while though, I was real messed up, " Emerald explained, acting casual about it. "So Why are you carrying around a pup? Is She okay?" Emerald asked, Concern in her voice. One Little known fact about the wolf girl was that she was probably one of the most maternal women anyone would ever meet. She had always been that way and was always really protective over children. So with the soft look in her eyes as her eyes and the concerned tone of her voice, it was hard to deny the wolf girls loving ways.
As for her statement about the Tiger mutant,it was the best lie she could come up with and it was a damn good one too. With Ems current track record, it highly possible that she had gotten into a fight with some random mutant who put her in the hospital.
>>”Don’t you have class and you turn in your paper yet? I see enough of your English professor during faculty meetings I don’t want him coming to see me because you haven’t turned in an assignment…”
Maya turned slightly red, seeing the Boss Man walk in. Darn, he always managed to find her when she was skipping class. She really wanted to know how he did it.
"Yea yea, paper's almost ready." she waved. The paper was indeed ready. As ready as papers can be. It didn't have anything written on it yet, but the paper itself, well, it was...
>>”Care to explain what happened?”
Emmy told him the same story. At least she remembered it right. Maya rolled her eyes behind the wolf girl, it was her right to tell the truth or not. The only one who could tell if she was lying... ... was Doc.
Also, Sam looked very strange carrying a kid like that. Almost cute, of course Maya didn't use words like 'cute' for men. Emmy looked worried about the 'pup' - well, she was a great distraction. What do you know.
"C'mon Ems" she sighed, standing up "Let's walk down to Doc's."

Nodding his head at Emerald when she gave her reasoning for the scar on her cheek Sam decided not to comment, it was a reasonable enough explanation, she was the type to get into a scuffle and knowing her past experiences with the X’s and former team leaders he had a hunch she wasn’t being entirely truthful. A mugging was a pretty easy lie to come up with but he didn’t press the matter right away for he knew that she wouldn’t tell him. He would rather try to have her mess up on her story and then point it out. It was something Neena would have done, lord knows she had done it to him enough times. She always managed to lawyer the hell out of him.
Looking to Maya he nodded his head, another lie he took it. He had a feeling that there was not even a written up version of the paper but he smirked, ”Just make sure you turn it in on time, I don’t want to have to tell Twyla that your neglecting your classes, I taught her a new throw and I hate to see her use it on you…” it was his turn to lie, he would have actually loved to see Twyla try out the new throw on Maya or Gawain for that matter. Hell that might be one of their next lessons. The thought made Sam laugh mentally as he looked to Kara in his arms who was sleeping peacefully no longer under the influence of her fever.
”The pup?” Sam asked as he lifted her slightly and then looked down at her with his good eye, ”She is fine for the most part just a fever I think promised her dad I would take extra good care of her, and so she gets to be carried.” Sam smirked as she let out a silent giggle followed by a cough. ”Seems the fever is broken though…” he was about to lean over and let her walk when she closed her eyes and inched closer to Sam’s chest. A sigh was released from Sam and he straightened up, silently agreeing to carry the one who claimed she was too sick to walk.
Rolling his good eye he looked from Kara to Maya then Emerald, ”I’ll join you…” Sam said as he took a step forward, ”You can tell me more about this paper of yours Maya and that Tiger friend of yours…” Sam said as he looked at Emeralds cheek.
Emerald rose from her seat, ready to follow after Maya to the Doc's office, hoping to leave her new boss behind her when he volunteered to go with them. Inwardly, she cursed, for having to walk with Sam so he could interrogate her about her injury on he face. It's none of his damn business anyways, why the hell is he asking about it?! Emerald snarled in her mind. While she raged on the inside, outwardly, Emerald put on a pleasant smile, partially to keep up the facade that she was fine, partially to not terrify the child by snarling at Sam. Ever since she was young, Emerald had been protective of those younger than her, when Ruby was born , she became the best big sister she could be. It was a strange maternal instinct, Emerald had and it was the only thing that kept her from snapping at Sam.
Whenever the group started walking, Emerald spoke up first. "What is there to tell about my friend? Him and a group of his buddy's were messing around my home town, I had heard some things about them, purposely walked in the shadier part of town, trying to bait him a bit, apparantly being a female with a tail has its up points." Emerald laughed a little at her own joke. Silently, she hoped that Maya wouldnt say anything disputing her story, because it was tamer than how she worded it to her. Maya could assume that the wolf girl was wording it that way to the boss so she wouldn't get in trouble."Wouldn't ya know it was Frankie the Anthropomorphic tiger mutant, who came to try to mug innocent ole me. Got into a fight, he gouged my cheek, his gang members joinned in, I won, got the crap beaten out of me,called the cops and I stayed at a hospital for a bit and didnt call home while I was recovering my full strength. Had a few broken bones too that I didnt really want to hinder my training , so I asked a novice healer buddy of mine to heal those.
That was her story and she was sticking to it. Occasionally she glanced at the little one to make sure she was alright, maternal instincts kicking it into high gear. Otherwise, Emerald told a rather convincing story and as long as she didnt slip up, she would be fine.
