The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Because of the flashing light, Meld was unable to see her enemy clearly. Her tail lashed out blindly, attempting, by hearing alone, to pierce his chest. Her vision spun with the sudden movement and she almost lost her balance because of it as she was completely unused to her tail being her only source of vision. It meant that until her human eyes recovered, she would be forced to use her tail completely for vision, negating it as a potential weapon.
The man ran forward, faster than any mere human would be able to run. "Mutant!" It was the only word she was able to get out before he was upon her, attempting to stab her with the knife. At the last possible instant she got her metal arm and shield up to intercept the knife but, because she was still disoriented by his movements and by the strobe light, she was unable to make a counterattack.
Meld yelled out when the Ranger was upon her. It was yelled as if it was a sudden realization. Had Meld's upgrades messed with her memory? Meld raised her shield to block the knife attack. The blade struck the shield, the Ranger turned it to the side to keep from damaging the blade too badly.
The blade slid across the shield to the left, Meld's right, and then off the Ranger twisting with it. Meld did not counterattack, something the Ranger took advantage of. The blade sliding off allowed the Ranger to shift his momentum into a spin. A spin on his right leg, until half way around he switched to his left and brought his right leg up for a kick.

Meld successfully managed to block the knife attack with her shield but didn't allow herself to take the time to appreciate that fact. Her usual battle calm and the clarity that came with it was not fully upon her and vision was now slowly returning to her human eyes, though that vision was currently fuzzy and tear filled.
Meld saw the feint that her enemy was attempting and the kick that followed. She moved to the side, faster than any mere human, avoiding any sort of connection with his leg. Had her vision been clear and had she not been relying upon her tail eye to see, she would have brought her tail around for an unexpected attack from above, but she was nothing if not adaptive.
Meld continued her movement, turning her defensive dodge into an offensive attack. She brought her clawed hand around, attempting to take a chunk out of her enemy's knife hand. She would like to see him try to use that particular weapon again, with his arm bleeding and useless by his side.
The kick was evaded by a quick move to the side. The Ranger wondered how Meld was able to see his movements after a hit with a flash bang. Following the dodge Meld struck out with her clawed hand, the Ranger saw it on the next flash of the light and instead of attempting to block it with his power aiding his speed, the Ranger dropped to the ground. He landed in a push up position and rolled away from Meld. He barely avoided the claw, but the move cost him time. It shouldn't be long before Meld's eyes are back to functioning.
The Ranger sprang to his feet after having rolled six or so feet away from Meld. Knowing his chance to get Meld while she was blinded was virtually gone, the Ranger moved back to the Sig with the flashing light, took hold of it in his left hand, and aimed it at Meld. He would have to use the gun's light to prolong the night blindness.

Meld was impressed by the prowess of her enemy. Even hampered as she was by the loss of her main source of vision and the fact that she was unable to use her tail as the weapon it was, she knew she was still a deadly skilled combatant. Years of martial arts training combined with the deadliest flesh melds she could conceive of, complete with both enhanced strength and speed in addition to their more obvious bladed enhancements, made it so few could stand against her for long. But whoever this man was, misguided or not, he was holding her own against her and she was impressed.
"You could do so much good with your powers," Meld stated as her enemy rolled out of range. Her ruby tail eye remained focused on him and she tensed, waiting for him to come at her again. He was back to using the flashing light that had so disoriented her the first time and she growled. She could afford to wait on his next attack however; the longer he waited to more chance she would have for her human eyes to recover and that could only work to her advantage. She moved her shield back in front of her.
Meld said it as if she was on the side of good, justice, or whatever ideal one would call it. The Ranger shook his head and called back with,
"I'm in the middle of doin' somethin' good righ' now."
The Ranger took a step toward Meld and then broke into a run, charging toward Meld the flashing light on the bottom of his Sig held directing the light at Meld. Quickly he approached her and when he was four feet away he cut sharply to the left and in a moment was upon the wall. He jumped up and kicked his feet off the wall to move himself behind Meld, the gun raised firing. One round fired before he hit the ground, he rolled and stopping on his feet fired again, standing he fired a third time and then a fourth. eight .357 rounds fired, four left in the high capacity magazine.

Some people really were misguided about what constituted doing good, Meld decided, as was evidenced by her opponent's words. Perhaps one day he would learn or perhaps not. She could only do her part and hope that the rest of the pieces fell into place.
Meld was really starting to hate that gun and its infernal strobe light. She prepared herself as her enemy ran towards her and when he got in range attempted to cut at him with the sharp edge of her shield. Because of the strobe light, however, she misguaged the distance and missed as he moved unexpectedly to the left. Once again bullets started firing and Meld jumped, vaulting over top of her enemy and landing behind him. Unbeknown to her given her lack of touch, the first bullet fired hit, grazing her her leg just below her knee and causing blood to flow but she managed to avoid the other bullets. Once behind her enemy she opened her human eyes, pleased to see that her vision had mostly recovered, though it was still a little on the blurry side. The gun had to go and in a flash she struck at it with her tail, attempting to shatter it with its bladed end. Without the infernal gun, her enemy wouldn't be half the threat he was currently.
Meld had evaded most of the rounds in a leap over the Ranger. The Ranger turned to Meld, again bringing the Sig to bear. Unfortunately, Meld brought her tail to bear, striking out at the Sig. The move was too fast for the Ranger too react to in the non-constant light. Blades forced its way into the stainless steal slide and aluminum frame, effectively killing the gun. Surprised, the Ranger pulled the trigger which fired the chambered round, whether it collided with a blade on Meld's tail or made its way out and off into the distance was unknown to the Ranger. He noticed the slide did not blow back and therefore a the next round was not chambered, it would not be able to fire again.
The Ranger released the gun, leaving it to its fate. The strike killed the light so the Ranger knew not if it stuck to the blades or if they were sharp enough and had enough force to rip through the entire gun. Following a few back steps the Ranger was now effectively blind, starring at where he knew Meld to be.
His power abandoned his limbs, in this darkness his eyes needed the boost to see. The muscles in his eyes pulled his irises back extending his pupils' diameters otherwise impossible, thus giving him greater night vision.

Even if Meld's human eyes were still a little fuzzy from the flash grenade earlier, she knew she had the advantage the moment the light from the gun went out. Her tail collided with the gun with a rather satisfying impact, causing the gun to shatter and the light to snap out in an instant. Another round of the gun went off colliding with one of the blades on her tail, an impact she was only aware of because it forced her backwards a step.
Meld kept her eyes squarely on her enemy's body, grinning sadistically. Now this was a challenge, just the sort of thing that really got her feeling energized. It would almost be a shame to end things but, alas, all good fights must end with a winner and a loser and, fun or not, Meld was not prepared to be the loser of this particular battle.
Meld stood in place, attempting to lull her enemy into believing that she was, once again, waiting for him to act first. Then, in an unexpected burst of speed, charged, attempting to leap and tackle him to the ground, grabbing his arm with her clawed hand and his lower legs with her clawed taloned feet.
The Ranger stood watching Meld as she stood, the Ranger surmised she would wait for him to strike again. This time a strike from him would benefit her, the light producing toys were out of commission. The Ranger adjusted his grip on the knife to insure he had the best possible hold on it.
Suddenly Meld moved, fast. The Ranger hardly had time to move before she was upon him. His power aiding his eyes, he couldn't move fast enough to evade her. She tackled the Ranger taking hold of his left arm and his legs. Hitting the ground the Ranger jerked to free his arm, but to no avail. Closing his eyes the Ranger tensed his arm. He needed strength now and now sight. The strength came, but not wholly. At the same time pain began to grow in his eyes, as if they were being split. A tapetum lucidum was forming in each eye and his retina's began to detect something different. The Ranger, stabbed his arm forward exerting an immense force. The knife moving to Meld's solar plexus. The Ranger kept his eyes shut, unaware of the changes to his site that were happening.

Meld's charge and leap was just about as successful as she could possibly hope it could be. She tackled her enemy to the ground, digging her clawed hand into his left arm and her taloned feet into his legs. Even if she had determined that she would allow him to live, if at all possible, that didn't mean he would get out of this unscathed. She determined to scar him and make him bleed. Hopefully that would be enough to teach him not to interfere with matters that didn't concern him.
Once atop her enemy, Meld felt the loss of her clawed left hand keenly. However, even without her metal claws, she still knew enough about incapacitating an opponent. She took her mutant hand and attempted to wrap it around his neck in order to cut off his air supply, hopefully leading to eventual unconsciousness. The knife coming towards her midsection was noticed only at the very last moment and she twisted her body to avoid it, taking only a surface cut along her side, about an inch deep and 3 inches long. To a regular person the pain would have been significant, but to Meld it meant nothing. The blood loss of that and her bullet wound, however, were the main issues and even if she wasn't able to choke him into oblivion she knew she would have to end things soon before the blood loss began to affect her.
The feeling of the blade plunging into flesh which the Ranger was expecting never came, instead the blade dug in an inch and went up. Meld had almost fully evaded the knife blade. Now Meld had both of the Ranger's legs held, his left arm held, and now she was attempting to choke him.
The Ranger dropped the knife and brought his arm back down and taking hold of Meld's thumb and pulling it back, reducing the force that Meld could exert onto his neck. As he did this he opened his eyes hoping his power would remain augmenting his strength. The expectation was that normal night vision would allow him to see somewhat in the dark. Yet, to the Ranger's surprise, a weird vision awaited him. He could see Meld in amazing detail, but not based on light reflecting from it. The Ranger was viewing the heat of her body.
He would have to figure out what was happening later, for now Meld was the issue and her claws were slicing into his flesh while he held off a blood choke. The Ranger tightened his abs in an attempt to force himself up, he figured if he could get some room he could break from Meld's hold on his neck with a sharp twist to his left, toward her arm pinning his left arm.

Meld's enemy dropping the knife was good. Blood loss was a major concern and as dangerous as the man might be with his hands, it was a lot more difficult to cause cuts and lascerations with flesh than when metal. With his hands, however, he was currently pulling back on her thumb in an attempt to weaken her chocke hold and although the move probably didn't have the same impact upon her as it would upon most due to her lack of a pain sense, it still negated much of the pressure she was trying to exert.
Taking a risk, Meld released her enemy's left arm, making cetain that her grip with her feet remained solid, and attmpted to grab a hold of his right arm with her clawed hand instead. His right arm appeared to be his dominant arm and thus it was the one that she most needed to disable. She kept her hand upon his neck, attempting to exert as much pressure as she was able to, given his attempt to prevent her from doing so.
Despite his effort to break Meld's choke the world was slowly closing in on him. His new form of sight was narrowing, slower than it otherwise would though. The Ranger knew he had to do something fast to get Meld off of him but there was nothing he could do. Until, Meld released his left arm and went for his right with her clawed hand. The Ranger tightened his grip on her thumb, if he let it go it would be seconds until 'good-night.'
When Meld released the Ranger's left arm he swung it out at her, raising his fist to her neck. If she was trying to cut off blood to his brain he would attempt it too, albeit a different fashion as there is no way he would be able to hold a choke with his hand on her against gravity. So several blows to the jugular and carotid artery would hopefully do the trick, or at least if he blacked out Meld would be to injured to pursue any actions other than retreat.

Meld knew that she had to have been making some headway with her choke hold, but it was sometimes difficult to tell when it came to mutants. She knew her current enemy had greater reflexes than a natural human, but did that also extend to greater strength or stamina? Only time would truly tell her how potent his gifts were. She thought she could see a hint of desperation in his eyes, however, and drank in the feeling of superiority and power it gave her. It wasn't the panic and terror that most humans gave her, but in some ways it was even more satisfying given his combat prowess.
Meld saw the blows aimed at her neck but was unable to fully avoid them with both hands and feet being tied up in imobilizing his opponent. The first blow struck solidly home and the second was partially successful also, before she managed to bring her tail around to deflect the remainder of the blows. The death grip she currently had on her enemy's neck, however, remained tenaciously intact.
