The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

If Doc hadn't been staring daggers at her, Maya would have kicked something over in frustration. Even though there was mot much left to turn over in the room where the wolf had been.
"But how..."
IV on the ground
"...when..."
Even Doc needs his sleep
"... where..."
Window open
"... damn!"
Maya could tell Emerald needed some serious alone time. To tell the truth, if it wasn't for Twyla, she would have done the same. But that was her, and Em was Em, and she promised to hunt her down, and Maya kept her word.
Finding a werewolf in New York City. Piece of cake.
Lucky the mirrorwalker had spent the past 4 years of her life searching through the USA room by room. Also lucky the werewolf had her den surrounded by big ass mirrors. It still took her most of the day to find the abandoned dance studio, and the wolf hiding in it.
Of course the wolf girl has escaped from the Infirmary, not much else could be expected of her besides that. After nearly all the sedative was expelled from the wolf girls body, she felt like it would be a good time to make her escape. That and the fact that the Doc was sleeping on his watch, something she would remind him of later.
During her grand escape, Emerald made sure to pack a few essential items in her bag before making her escape to the old abandoned dance studio near the far end of the state, near Finger Lakes National Park. The studio itself had been long cine abandoned for it was flooded out when the rivers overflowed; Em had managed to buy the place from the previous owner and turned it into her own private sanctuary, furnishing it with miss matched furniture she found abandoned on the roads. Now the place looked more like a private apartment than a former dance studio.
The area it was in was quite were there was typically no one to bother her and she would have time to herself and her own thoughts. Unfortunately, her only thoughts were flashbacks of a time that should have been long forgotten. It had been almost three years since she had been taken in by the X men, far away from the horrors of her past. Problem was, they still haunted her like a bad dream, plaguing her once peaceful sleep with awful nightmares.
In the middle of the living room surrounded by all the mirrors, the wolf girl was practicing her fighting moves, a grimace on her face apparent. The bruises from the giant hand painted her arms black and blue, there was also slight pain coming from the cut in her back, as well as other old wounds that the Doc had found, scolding her for it. So now she had her entire torso bandaged up, only wearing her jacket over it as she swung at the air, trying her best to keep her punches controlled.
It was then that a flash of an event from her past blinded her causing her to whimper a little. Pain, Blood, the metallic taste, unwanted touches all seemed to hit her senses at once causing the female to sink to the floor with a whimper. She moved over to the couch that she had pushed away earlier for practicing and sat down on it with her head in her hands.
“I cant…be this weak.” She snarled at herself disdainfully, forcing herself upwards and starting on her routine again.
Maya watched the routine for a while, and she wasn't even the slightest bit surprised. To tell the truth, she was even a bit disappointed that none of the furniture seemed to be broken yet, and casualties were not reported. Maybe because it was Emy's own place, and because she was alone. Until now, that is.
Maya cleared her throad and stepped out of the mirror - anything breakable just didn't feel salde around here. "You, girl" she observed, sitting down on the back of the couch "Need your precious *ss kicked. Big time."
A backpack was opened, and beer bottles clincked together.
"Brought ya some medicine. No prescription." dark eyes glared daggers at Emerald, doing their best pissed-off-DocProf impression.
Catching a familiar scent entering her nose, Emerald turned to Maya just as she stepped out of the mirror. Cursing herself inwardly for never covering up those mirrors she nodded weakly and made her way back over to the couch. She sat down and looked up at her friend with curious eyes.
"Ya gonna chew me out?" Emerald asked with a small smile. Being Chewed out she could handle, talking about things she couldn't. She had heard the bottles clink in the bag and she couldn't help but arch a brow at her friend. Sure the wolf girl had drank before, but it wasn't something she did often, considering her sped up metabolism.
Her demeanor was different than normal it could be noticed. While she did still put off the Alpha female look about her, there was something more docile about her, a frightened look that was clear in her eyes. Her past, thanks to the twins was coming back to haunt her and she didn't like it one bit.
"It's either the beer, or so help me God I'm gonna hug you, so 'tis your choice."
Maya slid down onto the couch, handing one bottle to Emerald. She could tell the wolf girl was seriously messed up from the day before. Everyone dealt it with their own way (the corner of her mouth curled up at that thought), but Emmy, she got far the worst part of the nightmare, and Maya could tell alone time was not what she needed right now.
"So, wanna compare notes on dealing with psycho telepaths?"
"Well no matter what you're gonna end up hugging me, cause when I'm drunk I tend to get affectionate." Emerald smirked a little, that wolfish grin managing to creep its way up her face.
Emerald hadn't been doing well since the night previous, her flashes of her past were becoming more frequent and the last thing she wanted was to become the wreck she was when she first escaped. The wolf girl removed the cap from the bottle and took a swallow, mouth twisting in disgust after she put it down.
"That stuff has the most putrid scent of all beverages." She grimaced, rubbing her nose, trying to erase the scent. She hated the way alcohol smelt, it was far too strong of a scent of her own tastes. Emerald looked down for a moment, letting out a deep sigh. I guess Ya want to know why I freaked out so bad when the guy twin changed into that man, huh?"
>>"Well no matter what you're gonna end up hugging me, cause when I'm drunk I tend to get affectionate."
"I can deal with that." Maya smirked, opening her own bottle. It was a better image than the wolf getting violent, at least.
>>"I guess Ya want to know why I freaked out so bad when the guy twin changed into that man, huh?"
Maya shrugged, glancing at Em from the corner of her eyes.
"Well, that would be a start." she nodded "Or we can talk 'bout how ya aced a raptor. Either way's fine by me."
Of course, the freaking out part was the more important one. But this kind of talk they were about to have... it needed patience, and skill. Maya was ready to let Emy talk or not-talk as long as she needed.
Emerald nodded her head a little a small smile creeping across her face once she heard the mentioning of the Raptor. She enjoyed fighting that thing, it was more on her level compared to some of the other thugs she had to deal with as Shred. Now, Emerald wished that there was a gang of Raptors she could fight, just to get her anger out on something. Besides, it was far easier to beat the crap out of a dinosaur and not nearly get arrested for it than to beat the crap out of a human.
"Well the raptor was a hell of a fight, it lunged at me and I tackled it from underneath its head." Emerald showed great animation as she lightly mirrored her movements from the fight, but tried hard not to overstrain herself. "Then we wrestled on the ground for a bit then he slashed my back open, but then I got mad so I grabbed him by the jaws, pinning him to the ground And I ripped his jaws open, breaking both of them as soon as a pulled hard enough."
Obviously, Emerald had an easier time talking of things like that then the reason why she freaked out so bad. Em had be known to be fearless, showing that nothing could freak her out or scare her. It was part of her character to take terrifying situations with a grain of salt, sailing up to punch the boogeyman in the face before beating him to death with his own arm. There were somethings however, that really took thier toll on the wolf girl, making her want to just scream at the world asking why it gave her this lot in life. Some things she needed to talk about that she never really had before, maybe then, she would feel closure. Her demeanor changed, from the Alpha female to the scared young woman that she was at the moment.
"The guy the psychic turned into, he tried to... " Emerald swallowed hard. "Mate with me...against my will." Emerald took another swig of beer staring down at her feet for a moment. A small whimper escaped Emmy's lips as the thoughts of that incident flashed in her mind again, her hand rubbing a spot on her shoulder, the same spot that the large bite mark was on. The female's smile was gone replaced by a haunted look that should only be worn by a grizzled war veteran, not a eighteen year old girl.
Maya listened to the sad tale of the last raptor, watching as Emmy moved and spoke. She was right: it was easier for the wolf girl to remember the epic (although gory) details of the previous day instead of the... well, not so good ones. "That's what I'm talkin' about." she nodded, taking a sip from the beer.
>>"The guy the psychic turned into, he tried to... Mate with me...against my will."
Well, damn.
"That *** son of a..."
What are you supposed to say to your friend when she admits some psycho tried to...? Something in Emerald's eyes told Maya the anger she felt about the news was not important right now; breaking stuff (or people) had its own time and place, and this one was neither. Maya sighed, putting an arm around the wolf girls shoulders instead.
Emerald felt the arm wrap around her shoulder, and tensened at first, still a thinking about the incident. The wolf girl relaxed after a moment, a deep breath escaping her lips. After such a long time of talking to no one about this, now she felt it was time to let go a little more. If she didn't she would have continued suffering alone and that was not something she wanted to do, not anymore.
Miss Shift and My older sister Sapphire, they heard me screaming and begging for him to kill me. He had tortured me for five hours straight." Emerald told Maya, looking ashamed of herself. "When I started screaming, He had cut open my stomach and had his hands inside of me. I should have been able to fight him off better." The werewolf shuddered visibly, her body shaking.
The wolf girl took another deep breath, attempting to calm herself again before her emotions got out of hand. She wasn't used to not being in control of herself, but remembering this, it was hard for her to be even though she was strong as she was.
Maya's expression twisted into something between horror and sadness. Whoevr, or whatever that person had been, he'd damn better be dead, because if he wasn't...
"I'm sorry." she muttered, putting the bottle down and looking at Emerald. The talk might help her get over things that are probably not possible to fully get over, ever; but right now, she just looked messed up from the mere memory of what had happened. Maya could understand that.
"You know, Emmy, you probably are the strongest person I've ever met" she muttered "Heck ya're probably stronger than the rest of them pust together. But that doesn't mean ya have to deal with stuff all on your own. That's what the pack is for." she added with a slight smile, pulling the wolf girl into a hug.
"I've dealt with things on my own for a while now. I took care of Ruby, my little sister, when she got out of the labs, and I managed to survive on my own for six months as a fugitive. I'm not used to having friends, but, I'm glad I finally found my pack," the wolf girl sighed, feeling far more relieved than she had been before.
The hug was a needed and welcome one, though her tenseness came and went once again. The normally strong wolf girl allowed the hug and was somewhat comforted by it. A pack, was what she had always wanted, and a pack was what she had. The alpha female in her swelled with pride as she had finally found the pack she was looking for.
"He’s still alive and seeing that image, reminded me of that," Emerald's voice wavered. ”He found me while I was in the mutant camps and took me in for a private torture session before the head of my bunk found me, just in time again."
Emerald rubbed her temples a little, feeling another headache coming on. This tended to happen after she started reliving moments. Her tail rested on her leg, oddly not wagging or any of the like as it usually did
"Ya've really been through a lot, haven't you." Maya muttered, patting Emmy's hair. Labs, camps, torture, taking care of sisters... And the psycho was still out there. Oh boy.
"Well, now ya've got a pack." she sighed, looking at Emmy "And as long as any of us can do anythin' about it, he won't get to you again. That's a promise, girl."
Count on it.
Maya wondered how many people knew. Not wanting to talk about it was one thing, that she could understand; but if there was an insane butant out there who tortured people for fun, someone needed to do something about it. Wasn't that what the X-team was for?...
Emerald nodded a little at Maya, knowing that she had been through a lot, but she had gotten stronger because of it. Her own strength of her body and her spirit was what really got her through the hard times that always seemed to fall upon her. It was something she had gotten used to and something she had gotten comfortable with. Now, she had a pack her burden could be finally eased, giving her more oppertunities to act like a normal teenaged girl, for once.
"Somehow, when you say it, I believe ya," Emerald told Maya, tail wagging ever so slightly. "Your'e the first person I've told that to you know? Like, I told Raina a tiny bit but I've never told anyone the full story before."
Emerald leaned her back against the back of the couch, wincing a little at the bruises that covered her. Her old wounds reopening wasn't the best thing for her either according to the doc, so he bandaged up her torso pretty nicely. She let out a soft sigh, trying her best to release some of the weight that weighed heavily upon her.
"One of the reasons why I'm so scared of that son of a bitch, besides the whole torture thing, is because he reminds me of what I would have become if I stayed in the labs. I would've ended up looking like him and acting like him if hadn't escaped when I did," Emerald sighed, laying her head back against the couch, "Not only that, but that mad scientist bastard probably would have put me in his breeding program by now. And guess who would have been my chosen mate?"
>>"Your'e the first person I've told that to you know? Like, I told Raina a tiny bit but I've never told anyone the full story before."
"Well, looks like it's 'bout time ya talked about it" Maya chuckled, rubbing her back "I knew ya only needed a beer."
>>"Not only that, but that mad scientist bastard probably would have put me in his breeding program by now. And guess who would have been my chosen mate?"
Maya frowned as she listened to the wolf girl. "Nyah, I don't think there's a way to turn you into anythin' like that." she shook her head at the end. She couldn't imagine Emmy becoming a monster, no matter what anyone did to her "An' as for mates, well, ya'll just have to choose your own, huh?" she grinned, pulling on the wolf tail playfully "He'd better be as badass as you, or else he's already in trouble..."
