The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Walking through the halls of the mansion was a decidedly odd experience. She'd done this a few times before, coming back after a lengthy absence, but something was different this time. Maybe it was largely the turmoil of the last few years having an impact on the way that she saw things, maybe it was just a fact of getting older...
Serena didn't have any trouble getting let in, even with her absence she'd spent more time in the mansion than most of the students that were currently there everyday, and she still knew a good number of staff. Funny how it managed to hold onto them for such a long time.
A pang of guilt rose through her psyche, flashes of her upset with Mirror for disappearing and not saying much of anything to her, or her other friends a couple of years ago. And then there was Ami. Feeling a fresh wave of discomfort the blonde quickly pushed those thoughts aside and went back to glancing around the frost dusted courtyard, and then the hallways of the mansion. It was just as packed as it ever had been, which wasn't really a surprise.
The massive building held so many fond memories for her, little flashes like old recording flickering through her mind while she walked around. Meeting a little blonde vampire late at night when she couldn't sleep, a fully nude gryphon flying through the doors near the kitchen and giving her an up close look of the male anatomy (shudder), her old roommate, who had dated said crazy gryphon boy, and even all the times she'd trained with members of the X-men.
Grinning to herself as she strolled through the halls towards the girls dorms she felt a little flicker of happiness as she walked past the girls dorms, remembering all the rushing out to meet her friends, one particularly hilarious instance of inviting James inside and seeing him crumble into a puddle of awkwardness on the floor.
Serena wasn't wearing the usual dresses and skirts today, she'd almost literally just gotten in from a long time away, thrown things in her very dusty apartment and then come straight here. As a result she was in bright jeans, a soft tie dyed top contrasted with a blood red leather jacket, her blonde ever so slightly curly locks hanging around her face. There wasn't quite a skip in her step, but it was pretty close as she closed the distance to a dorm she knew infact belonged to someone very important to her. She wrapped on the door gently one... two... three times, a sheepish smile plastered across her lips.

Redoing a year of school had been an interesting experience for Alice. Not just the fact that going of the rails a little had finally caught up to here or that she had managed to fail in a system that had seemed a fair bit easier than back home, but that she had to deal with the fact that some of the people she had finally made friends with were gone. Just, disappeared from her life.
Life was decidedly more sucky than normal.
The morning had at least been pretty good, some fresh food to cook with, no work for another two days and her she'd even managed to mostly patch up her favourite skinny jeans so at least they would tide her over for another few weeks. Thankfully the lazy day had allowed her to get away with some shorts and a mostly fresh t-shirt she'd scrounged up from the bottom of her cupboard.
Settling down into a comfier position she jumped back into the game she'd left abandoned a few nights ago and endeavoured to do a seriously stretch of gaming. Nearly managed to get into the zone too but a few knocks on her door made sure she just wouldn't be able to get there today.
"I swear to god if that's you brats playing pranks again I am going to........," her anger very quickly switched to joy upon seeing the similarly casually dressed Serena at the door. Pulling her into a big hug she immediately started berating her, "For God's sake sis where the hell have you been. And why the hell didn't you tell me you were back already, I could have met you at the airport!"
Serena felt a little knot of anxiety she didn't even realise had settled in her stomach almost immediately melt away seeing her little sister swing the door open. It was still such a weird feeling to have all of this familial affection after the status quo being thoughts of family bringing only pain for so many years of her life. Well, initially. Then for a couple of years they were replaced with seething and anger, that was still there... Just not for Alice.
Her mouth started to open in greeting before she was practically yanked into a hug by Alice and verbally assaulted. It closed again and spread into a peaceful smile, she hugged back tightly and rested her head on Alice's cheek? She'd gotten so tall! They were about the same size now. "Sorry." She held the hug for a few more beats, enjoying the physical warmth and the emotional warmth.
"Alice calm down. I just got back into the state this morning, I practically ran straight here from my apartment, I thought I might surprise you." She admitted. They had kept in touch... Sort of. Well, Serena had spoken to Alice the last two years which was more than she could say for almost all of her friends in New York. Which was basically all of her friends.
"Besides, It was quite the sudden decision." She added. She was in Seattle not 24 hours ago.

"Clearly, if that's what you threw on. Don't think I've seen you in jeans before to be honest." From the very few times they had spent together before Serena had disappeared to travel the country she had always been in some kind of dress, or skirt based thing. It was honestly a refreshing change. Like she was seeing a more private version of her big sister.
"And get in here, if you've run around that much I'm guessing you've not eaten anything substantial for a while?" Gesturing to the only free chair in her room, Alice crawled over to a more hidden spot of her bed and pulled our her secret stash of energy bars. "Chocolate or strawberry?"
After tearing into her own bar and watching her hunger bar top back up to full she finally gave her sister a proper once over. Looked a little tired but generally travel did that to a person, other than that Alice had never been good at reading people. Was she hungry? Angry? Happy?
All of the above is she was anything like Alice.
"So what prompted your sudden return, are you staying a bit longer this time and do you want some actual fresh cooked food while you answer my endless list of questions?"

Serena's cheeks actually flushed a little at that. Alice hadn't really seen her wardrobe had she? She did own jeans, she just tended to dress a little more traditionally feminine a lot of the time. And to be fair, she didn't exactly wear a dress when she was training or exercising a lot of the time, so her wardrobe did have some variety in it! "I happen to own other clothes thank you very much!"
Nodding and closing the door as she entered the room Serena glanced around and smiled. It looked SO much like her old room it made her heart flutter a little, the fact that Alice was into games too was pretty great. Even if it was significantly more so than Serena was herself. She had a little flashback to coming into James' room and throwing him completely off into his little awkward meltdown because she happened to know what game he was playing, and she was a girl.
Snickering internally at the memory she wandered what he was up to these days. "Er..." When had she ate? She cleared her throat. "I'm actually not certain, it might have been yesterday sometime." She rolled her eyes as Alice dove across the bed and dug through a snack stash. "Strawberry is usually my preference." Nothing wrong with chocolate, Serena just indulged in it a little sparingly these days.
Honestly she felt conflicted about being back into the city. Physically Serena was great. She was as pale as she ever had been, but her muscles were very well toned and she was in excellent shape. What a question, right out of the gate. She supposed her last few visits to Alice had been so fleeting. "I wondered how long it would take you to ask." Smiling inwardly she actually twisted a finger through her hair a little before looking back straight at Alice and answering. "I think I'm here to stay."
"Well not here-here, I suppose I mean I'm back in New York for the foreseeable future."

Really? Strawberry over chocolate? What kind of monster could actually make such a choice? Well, at least it meant she got her favourite to herself without having to feel guilty about it. She even revelled in the flavour a little, savouring the fact she'd finally found some bars that didn't taste like half cooked cardboard and were acceptable costs as far as the mansion was concerned.
"In that case after we've talked I'm making you some lunch. Energy bars are all well and good but even I can't survive on them forever and a real meal will probably do you some good."
Wait, wait, wait. Serena was serious about that, she was actually planning to stick around for a bit this time. That was......huge. "Christ it's about time sis. I mean, it was cool you were doing all that good stuff but I'm glad we'll be able to hang out properly now."
"Well duh, you have a sweet apartment with plenty of privacy. If you stayed in the mansion frankly I'd be a bit disappointed." Once this repeated year was done and she started uni she couldn't wait to get her own place. Somewhere to sit, drink and play games without any interfering adults was the dream. "Just promise me you'll at least let some of your friends know that your back. Getting a little sick of having to lie to people about where you are." That and she was sure some of them would flip if they knew how much Serena had actually kept her in the loop given they had still basically been strangers when she up and disappeared.
"Soooooooo, what is the actual plan? And why now of all times, I mean not that I'm complaining but you must have a reason for coming back?" Serena never struck her as the kind of person that did something entirely on a whim so surely there must have been a reason to come back now of all times.

Serena smiled. She could technically cook, but she definitely wasn't as good as Alice. Baking on the other hand she excelled at. Something about using very scientific, exact measurements and them having a set impact on what she was doing just made it easier to understand.
Obviously cooking was measured, but she found it tended to need more improvising.
She nibbled on the energy bar thoughtfully. "I'm glad to hear that you're eating well, energy bars aren't exactly a balanced diet~" She chimed, playfully nudging her sister.
At the response she giggled. "Yes we most certainly will. I don't know nearly enough about you, and I would absolutely adore the opportunity to spend more time with you." She added warmly. To be fair it had taken her a little while to adjust to having a sibling once again, but she had missed it on so many levels. It was odd being the older one, but again she could adjust.
The blonde chuckled a little nervously. "Yeah well... It's definitely going to need some serious cleaning and maintenance." She grinned. "There isn't anything wrong with the mansion. Apart from the prying eyes, they can be a little much at times." Rumours had circulated about her more than once, even after she'd left. Though the most recent time was Rebecca's fault.
A pang of guilt hit her, she grimaced. "I will... I just need.." Time? She'd had more than enough time. "To be honest, I need to just gather the courage to talk to some of them and apologise for vanishing. I needed some space from the city and my life here for several reasons."
She shuddered a little. "I know a few people that are going to be quite annoyed about it." Sam and Mirror came to mind. And maybe Rebecca. The list was long.
She shook herself out of it reaching over and basically mugging her little sister in an affectionate hug, kissing the top of her head. "The plan, little crazy one... Is getting comfortable being here again, apologising to a long list of people, and spending time with my sister~"
After harassing her sister with cuddles she added. "And that is as far as I've gotten with my planning."

"Lucky for me I can eat what I want then. Takes like 5 times as much as a normal person for me to put on any weight." Being perpetually skinny had it's down sides but being able to chow down on all the snacks was a well worth it bonus.
The prying eyes were exactly the issue. Her sexuality wasn't exactly a secret so whenever she had as friend round she had more than a few people trying to listen in or catch a weird listen. "Well prying eyes tend to make it hard to bring a girl around sis. Horny teenage boys are bad enough when the don't think they can perv on the local lesbian." It had taken more than a few harsh words and threats to finally get the more forward kids to back off but she still felt watched. Getting her own place was the only way to go.
"Well that's good because I am freaking bored right now. Doing the same lessons for the second year in a row is by far the worst way to spend your time." It had so far sucked hard, even when she was in the middle of a lesson she'd skipped the first time round it was still lame.
In Alice's opinion plans were for the weak. Why try to plan everything out when you could just enjoy yourself? "Well, that sounds like the perfect chance for a little bit of fun. I even know a few places we can get in for free where the drinks are reasonable and the music is f***ing great." It was definitely time she saw her older sister cut loose a little.
"Well, that's the totally only awkward stuff out of the way how was the journey? You mentioned some of what you were doing and your blog was kind of useful to.....not stalk you but what was it like?" The questions spilled out, mainly as a way for her to stop herself from asking ones that might cause tension. "And have you heard from mum?"
Well s**t.

Serena blinked, she mostly didn't think too much about Alice's power, but she often forgot about the hunger bar thing. She found her little sister's power very amusing, she was kind of into video games herself. Not quite to the extent that somebody like Alice was, or even James. She did play them though, when she had access to her limited free time.
Another flicker of amusement and warmth rocked through Serena. She actually found the fact that Alice was a lesbian made it easier to bond with her. "Trust me Alice, I'm very well aware of the situation." She smirked, initially thinking back to when she was a kid here, working out her own sexuality and on rare occasion having a girl over that wasn't a roommate.
... And then there was that other time. "I was mostly referring to the metaphorical eyes in the walls..." knowing the mansion they may not have been entirely metaphorical. "There was an incident with a certain red haired English teacher in the grounds that somehow made the rounds of the entire bloody estate." She shook her head, blushing a little in embarrassment.
It had ultimately been a very positive encounter though as she had become very close with Rebecca, platonically speaking, afterwards. There was that pang of guilt again.
Serena shrugged a little awkwardly, she did actually have some idea of how Alice felt about that, but she wasn't going to get into details. "I understand. But once you're caught up and have fully figured out what direction you want to take yourself in, it's worth it. And yes, I am well aware of how corny that might sound. I've been in a similar position to yourself before."
She raised her eyebrow in a smirk at the younger girl "define 'drinks' young lady."
She let that hang for a few moments before cracking into a wide smile. "I'm joking, of course. The laws here are too strict anyway." As far as Serena was concerned if a teenager could handle important life decisions ontop of a mutation, they could probably handle a drink or two.
Alice in a way reminded Serena of Amelia, it was the way that her words spilled out before she could stop them once she was started, it made her smile widely. "It was... Important, fulfilling, and not nearly enough." She quickly stammered out awkwardly.
She definitely wanted to do something more impactful. "I met some interesting people, and did some book promotion on the side. Which was weird, and thankfully not terribly public. One of the advantages to publishing under a pseudonym I suppose."
Ah, there it was. "I have." She thought about it for a moment before glancing at Alice. "Don't worry, it wasn't much about you, well some of it was I suppose. She mentioned you repeating, I told her that I already knew, she made some comparisons to my mother and this and that-" She took a breath and swatted away awkward, annoying sad feelings. "And then brought up Jake. It was weird. It was awkward. I feel she meant well."

Alice only knew one red headed English teacher. "Wait, wait, wait, wait. Are you telling me you and Miss Grey hooked up. In the Mansion. And I have somehow never heard this rumour?" Her sweet girly sister had more game than her when she was a teenager. That was almost insulting. Almost.
She returned the smirk with a flat look before also cracking into a grin, "Booze, hooch, alcoholic beverages. The kind that make everything just a bit more fun. And no kidding, this place is weirdly uptight about some stuff. Apparently there's even states you can't even buy alcohol which is just," she shuddered slightly at the thought, "wrong."
"I've never really understood that, why do you not write in your name? And why is that kind of the done thing with authors?" It just hadn't ever made sense to her, surely if you writing a book and realising it part of that was wanting some kind of recognition for it. Kind of like a game developer or film director plastering their name on all their work. "Plus it's not like people over here know who we are, which I can imagine p***es off the old bat to no end." Her expression darkened just slightly at that thought. Their grandmother was bitter woman and the idea of her not getting what she wanted brought no end of joy to Alice.
Sighing out with relief she was glad that eventual conversation hadn't been explosive. Alice had a rough idea about just how bad they had treated Serena's parents, and by extension her, but even then Alice knew her mum wasn't a bad person. Selfish, sure but so were most people but she did genuinely care. Her entire young life was a testament to the kind of woman her mother was. "That's good I guess. I'm glad you managed to have a normal conversation as far as our family goes and I'm sure she did mean it. About Jake."
It was something Alice hadn't probed into too much. After the whole revelation of her having a sister, having a brother she never knew hadn't been as much as a shock but it was still painful knowing she hadn't even allowed to see him put to rest when she was small. "I'm......sorry she brought it up. And that she made some pretty poor decision around that time." Looking away, she pushed the more negative emotions back down. "But he's in a nice place. I visited him not too long ago, even managed to sneak past the witch with some help from the folks on the estate. Someone even goes to the plot every week to lay flowers and keep it clean." It was good to know the people she knew from growing up were still, by and large, good. That at least hadn't been beaten out of them.
"But that's all conversations and feelings for a different time Serena. Now we celebrate you returning. With food. And cake." Glancing to the door at a sudden noise she relaxed at the normal sounds of movement that always radiated her room. "I'm also sure there's plenty you want to share and talk about so spill."
Serena hadn't intentionally brought up the topic of her and Rebecca's meeting. Or hadn't intended on it being brought up in that manor anyway, certainly she didn't want to give her sister the impression that she had hooked up with Rebecca. Her cheeks flushed crimson and she stammered. "No- N- Not quite." She took a moment to recover and expanded. "It was a couple of years ago, we'd not seen each other in a long time and we ended up making out on the grounds. It was totally her fault."
She tried to shuffle away from awkward flailing rapidly. "And if you ever bring that up around her, or in any of your classes I will kill you. You hear me? Kill you." She was still very red in the face. "And my training regiment is on par with most of the X-men, so don't doubt me." She muttered.
She giggled. "So that's part of why you got distracted last year?" She teased. "I'm not judging, don't worry." She added quickly with warmth.
She pouted a little. "Well mostly I was in a weird place when I published the first one. Remember I had quite a different upbringing, and at the time that I was writing the first book I was... Well. Lets say I lacked confidence." She admitted. There was a period that she had been absolutely petrified over her power, and then when she'd started to get a semblance of control she was still scared to talk to people about it, mind you there was probably still some issues in that area given she was very nervous about bringing it up with Alice.
That comment made her grin. "Well Alice, if you think you're good at winding up the old swamp hag I think you would enjoy seeing her face after we talk. I like to think I'm much more direct in my confrontations with her." Actually, Serena on reflection had thrown her out of an apartment more than once.
"I-It's okay." She stammered a little. Her opinion on Alice's mother was a little more complicated than her opinion or relationship with her Grandmother. "I kind of get it. She lost her sister when I was born, she probably misses her." Serena felt a little smile creep onto her face. "Truth be told, I was terrified that she'd place the blame for that on me, but she doesn't seem to."
"And I can appreciate that, I lost everyone once. And Jake meant the world to me. God, I don't actually think I've ever really gotten over the complex the whole situation created." She still had problems with the cops that were mostly irrational. "But then you showed up." She added warmly, a soft smile on her lips, showing her teeth again as it developed into a very giddy smile.
Serena reached forwards as she spoke and brought her little sister into a warm, possibly slightly suffocating hug. "And suddenly everything was brighter. You mean a lot to me." During the suffocation hold she added "And yes, his grave is lovely. I have a recurring payment set up for the flowers." She admitted. "They wanted to do it anyway, but it would've gotten expensive over time, and he was my big brother."
Releasing her adorable little sister from her death grip Serena grinned at her. "Sorry." She murmured bashfully for being so hug crazy.
She giggled again. "Food and cake? Do you not consider cake a food?" She shook her head in amusement. "There is a lot I want to talk to you about, but mostly I want to talk about you. I want to know you better." She blushed a little. "I'm sorry for disappearing like I did, I definitely should have held it together better and spent more time with you than I have done."

Alice held her hands up, a big grin plastered across her face, "Hey, no judgement here. When you past the accent she is pretty hot." Serena was definitely easier to embarrass than Alice was, which made it fun to interact with her. After all, Alice had never had a sibling growing up so having that kind of close banter was kind of new and fun. "Respect though."
"Ah right. I guess that would do it." Confidence was tricky to come by, even as a supposed adult, "but have you had any thoughts about publishing under your own name now? I mean if it made sense business wise."
"Trust me, some of the screaming matches we had were epic. I lived with her remember, imagine being in the same house as her for years on end." It was good they had both independently had pretty much the same impression of their grandmother, it made Alice a little more vindicated in believing the woman was pure evil in human form. "Christ you should have heard the one when she announced the whole arranged marriage thing, I'm honestly surprised there were windows left in the frames after that."
She could tell it was hard for Serena discuss her lost family, but it made her really happy that at least she didn't seem to hold a grudge agaisnt her mum. "She is a good person, in her way at least. And she's the reason I can stay here and hopefully go to uni. Definitely wouldn't be able to afford living here myself when I get to that point."
Alice hugged her sister back, probably a little harder than she'd been planning to but it was still new having someone this close to her. Sure Alice had some meaningful connections in her life but Serena was different, more real in a way. "I know they would've, they liked your mum a lot and most of them helped me a lot growing up." It had been strange that the people who worked for them had generally been so much better people than their employer. Maybe money was the root to all evil with how obsessed the family had gotten with it and their social standing.
"Don't worry Serena, it's might be new having a sibling but it is pretty awesome. Just a shame I didn't get all the younger years but we've at least got time now." Her face was little up with joy, no sarcasm or dry wit present for once. At least only her sister saw her in less than prime bitch form.
"Of course cake isn't food dear sister, it is ambrosia. Food from the gods. Whoever invented it and the countless people who perfected the craft should be our greatest hero's." Cake was by far the single greatest human achievement, just above video games and alcohol. "And don't worry, you had a bit of a time before you left. Can't blame you for needing to get out for a bit." Turning a cheeky grin back she continued, "OK maybe I can blame you a little but only because I couldn't go with you."
"But seriously, have you gotten some more ideas for books and stuff while you were traveling. Kind of been waiting on your next one for a bit and as fun as your blog is I need to know what happens next." While her initial interest had been to get to know more about what Serena did, the books were in her wheel house for interest and she'd quickly gotten hooked. "Just, no spoilers. OK maybe some spoilers." She had to know!

"Alice!" She stammered blushing very very hard. She was shaking her head a little. Why yes, Rebecca was freaking gorgeous but she didn't need her younger sister talking about her friend who was probably in a relationship who also happened to be one of Alice's teachers.. That situation was all different kinds of weird .
Besides that, her affection for Rebecca had always been platonic. There was just that one incident. That everyone at the mansion seemed to have found out about.
"Well yes, I have thought about it." She admitted. "Partially it's habit, partially it's because it pisses off her ladyship." She added with a sheepish smile on her face. She'd missed out on being able to teenage rebellion her grandmother for real so she got her own back where she could.
Serena felt a little surge of anger and had to actively stop her hand from shaking. "I'm sure you did. And no, I can't imagine what living with her is like." She admitted. Thank god she had good control over her mutation, it would've been the worst if she accidentally shifted in front of Alice. Especially given she hadn't elaborated on her power to her sister yet.
"Hah. No wonder she was so upset when she asked me about arranged marriage and found out I was gay. No way she was forcing me into ****" She hoped Alice didn't mind her cursing. She didn't do it often, but something about her grandmother just brought out the rage in her. "I've almost literally thrown her out of my apartment before. It's also a good thing I had pretty good control when I met her or things could have gotten ugly." She mentioned with a slight grimace.
"She seems to genuinely care about you. Which is all you can really ask for in a parent." She admitted. She sometimes wondered how much of a crap her father really gave. Alice had made her wonder that even further. Serena felt the bitterness receded and give way to warmth. "I would pay if she couldn't or didn't." She replied flatly and sincerely.
"You deserve independence and happiness. If that witch ever tried to take you back, all you'd need to do is give me a call and I'd either make her back off or kick her ass for you." It was sort of funny when Serena got irate or passionate, her usual tone and accent made it sound odd.
"I got that impression." She smiled sadly. "I wish I could have met her, Jake had a couple of stories but he didn't remember all that much either." Serena's eyes started to blur a little bit. She missed him so much.
Serena buried her face gently in her little sister's shoulder during the hug, trying to shake off some of the tears. "I'm glad. I love you Alice." She murmured into the shoulder.
Serena wiped her face a little thankful it wasn't full on waterworks, her makeup was enough of a mess already from lack of sleep. "If you say so. I personally only think it's at it's full majesty when paired with a good cup of tea." She teased gently. She also really liked cake, she used to bake it all the time when she hung out with friends but she hadn't done much of that recently.
"I'm sorry. Next time I go on an adventure I'll stop by to kidnap you from school, okay?" She offered with a jest and another warm smile.
Oh. Yeah that was a little awkward. "I've genuinely not thought about it yet. I have some rough ideas penned down but to be perfectly honest I've had other things on my mind. Perhaps being back in New York will give me some ideas, we shall see." She added with another grin. "I'm glad that you like them. I'll give you an advance copy to read of course." She felt a flicker of pain as she recalled giving Amelia that very thing one fateful valentines.
Alice just laughed hard at the look on Serena's face. She was such an expressive person when compared to herself that it was kind of freaky that they were related. "It's fine, I think she all gooey over Maya and Gawain right now that I doubt she'd even remember anyone else she's had a thing with." Alice was pretty clear on which side of Mirror she preferred, but in fairness her and Ms Grey were pretty good together and had set out to be an entire mansions set of surrogate parents.
"It was hell Serena. Living hell." Alice never liked remembering those times but it had been such a huge stretch of her childhood that it was hard to bury it. "I'm just glad that mum managed to escape, even if I had to stay behind for a bit. She's actually doing really well now, some big higher up in one of the family business's." Which she couldn't complain about too much, after all it was how she had gotten a very generous living allowance until recently.
Shuddering at the idea that the woman had tried to pull t hat play off on both her and Serena, "Yeah, no way I was some brood mare for that family. Can;t even imagine touching a boy let alone.......that." Miming a sick motion she made it clear her thoughts on the idea. "But hey, it did give me the quest to find you so at least something good came out of that whole situation. Even if it took me across an ocean, a city and a doorway."
"And yeah, she's never getting her claws in us again. I know you can handle her but I know enough about our family to make her pause." Not a lot to do when a person doesn't have friends and stays inside all day and even Alice couldn't remain glued to a computer screen all the time. Some of the private histories of the Rivers was down right scandalous, but then a group of people didn't amass that much wealth and power by being nice or by following the rules. "Let's just say some of our ancestors lead very interesting lives."
Patting Serena awkwardly on the shoulder, the words shocked her a little. Literally one person in her entire life had ever said that too her and that was her mother, which was still awesome but a little more expected. Hearing it from someone else had a power all its own. "I," the words caught in her throat, "I love you too sis." Felt pretty good to say, like a weight was gone from their interactions. They were sisters, the whole half thing didn't matter to Serena and it damn sure didn't matter to Alice.
"God, warn me next time your gonna drop a bomb like that," she laughed, wiping her own brimming eyes before anything could roll down her face, "can't just say something like that out of the blue." But she was glad it had been said. Emotions could be good sometimes apparently. "And yes, you have to kidnap me from school. Preferably from English class. Because I know English, obviously."
That was a bummer. It would be ages until she answers but at least she would be one of the first to have a copy. "Make it a signed copy and we have a deal."

Serena blinked. She was all gooey over Mirror? That was interesting. Last time she'd spoken to Becca she believed the Scot was with Agnes, so something drastic and drama laden must have happened. "Well I hope it's mutual. Mirror is a wonderful person, and so is Becca." She bit her lip. What was Sam up to at the moment? She hoped he was stable at the very least. She kept feeling waves of guilt and minor nausea over leaving New York.
Serena grimaced a little. Sure she'd had her own personal hell, involving reliving the worst night of her life everytime she closed her eyes, but Alice had suffered a hard upbringing as well. She wished she could have been there or made it better although... If Serena had met Alice after what happened, she wasn't sure she would have been able to connect with her younger sister. She probably would have shut down or done something drastic to herself.
"I'm glad she did too." She admitted. Serena grimaced again. "Honestly I wish I knew more about my mother, what she went through and was like. I had such little connection to back home and Jake or dad never said anything to me about it." She had wrestled with more than her fair share of anger over that fact but harbouring ill intent towards the dead both seemed pointless and disrespectful. Even if she wanted to.
She snorted. "Yeah. I may have discovered my sexuality a little later than you actually, I definitely remember confused feelings regarding a boy. Then he turned out to be a jerk, we fought, it was a whole thing." She'd been thinking about the past a lot recently. Part of her did wonder whatever did happen to Leon, but he also wasn't really worth much thought. "I think the way I felt around my best friend here helped, he was extremely nervous around girls and a nerd and I wasn't remotely into him."
Serena nodded slowly. She'd actually done some serious digging but she had no first hand knowledge compared to Alice. "Well just know, if she ever does try to manipulate or force something. Call me. For that matter if anybody messes with you, I will personally deal with them if you want me to." She responded curtly. Nobody was f****** with her little sister. Nobody.
On reflection that might have been a little deep to just drop on Alice like that, but Serena wasn't ashamed. She was glad she'd let Alice know. The hug was like an affectionate vice and Serena giggled. "I hope you never get tired of hugs." She whispered softly.
Something melted inside of Serena when Alice responded in kind and it wasn't just eye blurries it was full on tears. She was definitely glad she wiped her face quickly when they parted. "I feel like I never said it enough to dad or Jake, and I never got to say it to Mom. So there is no way I'm waiting to say it to you. You mean the world to me little sister, and I'm here to stay." She smiled widely her eyes watering again, she stopped to wipe them.
"God I must look like a mess." She murmured.
"Of course you get a signed copy." She replied, her voice now a little cracked and hoarse. She'd been thinking of doing something a little... Well, a little steep in terms of gestures. She wondered if she should mention it now, or just wait until it was ready and present it as a surprise.
"Now, shall we go and find some food and tea before I have a full on meltdown, your make up doesn't look like it would suit me and my apartment is a while away." she joked with a warm smile.
