The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Eve looked hesitant about the falling. Maya was unsure why - there was a mattress on the floor, after all. She had to admit, going this far back to the basics made her almost as confused as Eve.
>>"Are you going to look at me like I'm stupid if I admit I have no idea how to just fall on my own?"
"Well... um."
She didn't exactly want to push her. She had done that just moments before, but she also broke the fall on her own.
"Like this?" she stood next to Eve, with her back to the mattress, and fell back, landing with a soft thud. It did not need much work, the fall was cushioned well enough on its own.
Evelyn watched quietly while Maya demonstrated, relieved when the echoes took notes. At least with her powers, seeing tended to be understanding in a relative way. Trying to push aside her initial hesitation, she turned and mimicked what Maya had done. She tried to remember to catch herself with her hands, and it mostly worked. It was just somewhat sloppier than perhaps her mirror-walking companion had done.
The training mat caught her and helped remove some of echoes warning signs she had been fighting. At least they shut up once they realized there was a reason for what was happening.
"Like that?" She asked, standing back up and rubbing the back of her neck sheepishly again. It was probably going to take a few tries to really get comfortable with the process, but at least she picked up on things quickly and it wouldn't be too tedious.
"Yeah, kinda" Maya nodded, watching her fall and get up, then walked over to put her hands on her upper arms "You need to be less tense though. If you tense up too much you're gonna hurt yourself in a real fall. You kind of... have to roll with it as much as you can. Does that make sense? If you... break the motion too suddenly, you get hit stronger. If you move with it, that takes some of the force away."
It was harder to explain than to demonstrate. Maya fell again.
"If you... kinda hit the ground with an arm like that, that also takes some of the force away."
She stood and smirked, rubbing the back of her neck.
"I'm sorry if I don't make sense, I... have not really tried to explain this before."
Evelyn listened closely, and forced the echoes to listen as well. They seemed rather interested in the compositions and resistance of the mat they were falling into, but the important part was the falling, not what she was hitting. Listening didn't really make as much sense, but watching helped her understand a little more. She nodded, then smiled slightly, chuckling as Maya mirrored her nervous gesture.
"It makes a lot more sense once I watch, actually." She responded. She took a deep breathe and forced herself not to tense up so much, and tried falling again. This time she rolled into it slightly like Maya had said, and the impact wasn't as strong. It wasn't perfect, but certainly more graceful than her first attempt.
>>"It makes a lot more sense once I watch, actually."
"Oh good, then I don't have to talk" Maya grinned and waited for Eve to try the fall again. She did better this time, and Maya was sure she was going to improve on it fast.
"Good" she nodded, and then added with a smirk: "Ya have been a teachers' pet haven't you."
Walking around the mattress she thought about how to go on for a few moments.
"It's not like falling's ever gonna not hurt" she added, watching Eve get up "but if ya get used to it at least you can manage without staying down."
Evelyn shook her head at Mirror's remark, and brushed her hands against her pants. There really wasn't a good comeback to the 'teacher's met' comment, just a slight smirk was all that really felt necessary. She listened more closely to the advice though, and tucked that away for later.
"Maybe the point is to just make it hurt less?" She mused, and then blinked slightly at Maya's follow up question. She couldn't resist the snort of laughter that bubbled from her, and she quickly put a hand across her mouse to muffle it. A grin spread across her face, and she slowly lowered her palm.
"That sounds like a really cheesy pick-up line...Just saying..." She remarked with a twinkle in her eye. She wasn't sure Maya intended it that way, but the image was just to amusing to let pass by.
>>"That sounds like a really cheesy pick-up line...Just saying..."
"Oh god, I did not just say that." Maya blinked with her eyes going wide. Talk about AWKWARD with a capital everything. Eve seemed to think it was amusing, judging from her expression and the laughter she tried and failed to stifle. Maya started to chuckle too, and then finally burst into laughter.
"I will... never live that one down..." she gasped, looking at Eve. It took her a few minutes to compose herself after the pick-up line disaster that had no doubt been filed right next to the tree incident. Great.
"In all fairness, when it comes to pick-up lines I'm better than that" she said finally with a grin "You should know, I can pick you up without sayin' anything at all."
Maya's expression was priceless, and Evelyn let the echoes dutifully file the memory away for later. Now she had a memory of both Maya and Gawain to giggle about. Although she wasn't sure a picture of Maya's face would be as amusing without the words that sparked it. She might just have to leave those images in her head.
"Here I just thought you were trying out some of Sam's lines. Glad you haven't resorted to that yet." She teased. She rolled her eyes at Maya's defense and shook her head, braid twapping from one shoulder to the other. "Hey, that was a one time deal. You better watch it, I'm a quick learner. It's going to get harder to pick me up. Gotta keep you on your toes somehow." She smirked. The banter was amusing, but it gave her a little time to relax in the meantime.
>>"Here I just thought you were trying out some of Sam's lines. Glad you haven't resorted to that yet."
"Yet?!" Maya snerked "Please shoot me if I ever do."
No one wanted to turn into Sam voluntarily. One Cold Steel was more than enough.
>>"Hey, that was a one time deal. You better watch it, I'm a quick learner. It's going to get harder to pick me up. Gotta keep you on your toes somehow."
"Fair enough" Maya nodded, stepping up to Eve "Try to stop me."
Eve was going to get picked up and thrown over Maya's shoulder, unless she could do something about it. They were still balancing at the edge of the mattress, in case they both toppled over. Or not. Training Eve was full of surprises.
The response was what she had hoped for. Evelyn's grin grew a little wider, and it at least stopped the cheesy lines for the moment. The echoes started buzzing with new activity though. Maya was closing in, and Evelyn had thrown down a challenge she was fairly certain was not exactly in her favor. She scrambled through her memories, trying to pick up on any training that might help. There was a bit there from her unplanned sparring session with Forte, and she tried to combine that memory with watching the kids during gymnastic. It took a few moments to sort the information, and she stalled while side stepping away.
Isolate the echoes... She tried to remember, and waited until the right movements from Maya. When she saw signs she was going for the catch, Evelyn ducked and did a sloppy summersault, not exactly landing on her feet but at least getting to the other side of the mirorwalker. She tried to get to her feet quickly enough Maya wouldn't have time to turn and grab her. The echoes were still a lot faster than her body at this point though.
Eve was prepared for the attack. Maya caught a glint in her eye that gave away the planning that was happening in the girl's head. She moved in to pick her up, but Eve ducked out of the way and executed something that felt like a somersault just died, but still managed to scramble out of reach by the time Maya spun around.
"Not bad..." she huffed and ducked in too, attempting to catch Eve around the waist. There was still a chance that she could lift her up over her shoulder, even though Maya lacked Gawain's upper body strength to do that in one swoop. The alternative option was tipping Eve over and them both going down. She needed to practice falling anyway...
Evelyn looked like a graceful individual, but when it came to fighting, she was all impulse and no style. The soft padding on the ground made it a little harder to stand quickly, and that was all it took. Maya had her by the waist and she was still only halfway to her feet.
She knew there were really only two directions this could go. Either she was going to end up on the ground again, or over Maya's shoulder. She wasn't entirely sure Maya could lift her, and her ego really wanted to avoid getting knocked down. So instead she tried to backpedal out of Maya's grip, using her slim figure to be as elusive as possible.
The echoes drifted to analyze the training mat again. Sometimes she wished they were something she could kick for being less than helpful.
Eve backpedaled and Maya had to take a step forward to follow and avoid falling flat on her face. It was not the most elegant of moves on Eve's part, but it was something; picking her up into the air was out of the question at this point. The situation became more awkward as they stumbled over the mattress. Eve was skinny and light, and it was not easy to grab her in a way that did not include pulling on her clothes. With a huff, Maya gave up the graceful execution of the plan and digging her heel into the mattress she twisted around, bringing both of them down, with Even landing on top.
"Um... that works..." she muttered, looking up at Eve sheepishly "I planned it that way."
At least, the part about not ending up slung over Maya's shoulder like a sack of flour. Being back on the floor was still a bit of a failure, but she was on top this time at least, and she couldn't resist smirking at Maya's face. She sat back so she was somewhat sitting on Maya's stomach.
>>"I planned it that way."
"Sure you did." Evelyn laughed and leaned down, kissing Maya on the nose then pulling back with a somewhat victorious expression. "Come on, just let my ego have a moment." She grinned.
>>"Sure you did. Come on, just let my ego have a moment."
The kiss on the nose made her smile.
"Okay, I'm letting your ego have a moment." she agreed, folding her arms as she looked up at Eve sitting on her stomach, trying not to think thoughts that came so naturally in situations like this. After a few moments of silence, she lifted herself up on her elbows.
"So... yeah. It's pretty much about balance, and who's gonna lose it first. You might be lighter than your opponent, but that doesn't mean you can't tip them over if you know how..."
