The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Evelyn nodded slightly as she moved to retrieve the sai. The only problem with throwing them would be she'd only have two shots. But throwing was always a last resort sort of option. When she fought with them last time they did pretty well at stabbing. It was silly, but she didn't feel skittish around the forked weapons like she did around knives. They could still cut a little bit when sharpened, but that was just what happened with somewhat irrational fears. Then again, after having a knife against her throat it didn't feel so irrational.
>>"You'll have to learn basic self-defense before you start using it in training..."
"So I guess that means the catsuit would have to wait." She looked up with the most innocent of expressions, the slightest hint of a smirk on her mouth. She sighed and tossed the sai in the air, took a step forward and let the echoes guide her hand behind her back to catch it. The smile flashed back across her mouth as she waggled the sai at Mirror, and she chuckled. "I've had to work with some of the patrons this week at the museum, and there have been a ton of kids around. You should see the look on their faces when you do that with a flashlight." She remarked. She had a few tricks up her sleeve still.
>>"So I guess that means the catsuit would have to wait."
Maya arched an eyebrow. Eve wasn't anything if not a quick learner.
"Minx."
Eve tossed the sai into the air and caught it behind her back, and Maya let out a short whistle of surprise.
>>"I've had to work with some of the patrons this week at the museum, and there have been a ton of kids around. You should see the look on their faces when you do that with a flashlight."
"I bet" the mirrorwalker grinned "If you don't become a superhero, you can still consider a career in circus style juggling. Still comes with a catsuit, right?..."
>>"If you don't become a superhero, you can still consider a career in circus style juggling. Still comes with a catsuit, right?..."
Evelyn laughed out loud, and grinned slightly, shaking her head. "As much as you might enjoy that, I think I have a one object limit. Hand me three of anything and the echoes are bound to wander elsewhere. I'd be juggling one second then the next I would be getting information about tile patterns and drop everything." She shifted the sai in her hand again, and took her stance back at the target. This time she threw it a little quicker, and it buried itself closer to the middle of the circle.
"Maybe I'll learn some tricks though. I don't think it'd be much use in a fight but I'd look pretty cool if I could throw backwards." She mused. She glanced over at Maya, feeling somewhat more relaxed now. Then she gave another throw and the sai landed just shy of hitting her previous toss.

"You never know what comes in handy in a fight" Maya smirked, watching her practice "being able to throw a sai like that, you already have a advantage on a lot of people."
On pretty much anyone who had Eve's experience with weapons, but no special memory powers.
"And the good thing about knives and daggers is that if you don't have one but your opponent does, there are ways to grab them." she added, looking at the sai and at the other knife-like weapons on the table. That was a topic she was somewhat familiar with.
Evelyn glanced at the table where the bladed weapons rested and made a face. As comfortable as she felt with the sai, she felt genuinely skittish around anything sharper than that. "Knives and I don't exactly get along though. They sort of give me the heebeejeebees...." She remarked, shifting on her feet. She rubbed the back of her neck in a nervous way, trying to quench the twisting sensation in her stomach she felt. It made sense, honestly. it was just hard to get herself to get over that fear. She had gone for almost any weapon that wasn't knife like earlier, and at least daggers didn't make her feel quite as nervous.
"I don't suppose I can just develop a new mutation to make other peoples weapons disappear though." She remarked slowly. Maya seemed comfortable enough throwing the knives. And at least most of the weapons in here were just for training.
>>"Knives and I don't exactly get along though. They sort of give me the heebeejeebees.... I don't suppose I can just develop a new mutation to make other peoples weapons disappear though."
Maya noted the uneasiness in Eve's voice and looked at the knives. Not handling them was fine, but being afraid of the most common weapon used on the streets... well. They'll work on that later.
"Nah, you don't need a mutation for that" she smirked, looking back at Eve "That's what self defense is for. So, you know. Next time someone tries to throw you over their shoulder and drag you into an alien invasion, you can have a say in it." she grinned at Eve, ready to take cover if she needed to.
Evelyn stuck out her tongue at Maya's remark, and swatted at the other female's shoulder. She forced herself not to smile, but only partially succeeded. There was the faint curve in her mouth that gave away her lack of anger. "Hey, at least I'm not going to get hung upside down in a tree by my sai. Not sure if self-defense would fix that."
Ok, so she hadn't let that go yet.
But Maya had to bring up the aliens. It was only fair.
She turned to retrieve the sai again, flipping her braid over her shoulder as she did. It took a good yank to free the weapons this time, but at least that means she was throwing them harder. "You better watch it now. I'm armed and dangerous." She warned.
>>"Hey, at least I'm not going to get hung upside down in a tree by my sai. Not sure if self-defense would fix that."
"Ow!" Maya pressed a hand over her heart with a pained expression "Touché."
Apparently weapon handling was not the only thing Eve was getting better at.
>>"You better watch it now. I'm armed and dangerous."
"Nah." Maya shook her head with a smirk before she stepped lightly behind Eve, flicked a hand at her wrist so the sai fell to the floor, and the hooked a leg around hers and overbalanced. They both went down, Maya catching the fall on her hand and knees and coming out on top with a grin.
"... ya're just armed." she glanced at the sai on the floor, then back at Eve "Oh wait."
Evelyn wasn't quite sure what happened. One minute the echoes were following Maya's movements and then...
Then there was ground.
"Omph!" It didn't help that she was still somewhat lacking in the reflex area. Her echoes only processed what was happening, they didn't exactly do much to respond in time yet. She scrunched her face up into a sulky glare and stuck her tongue out like the adult she was.
"Brat! That's totally cheating!" She jabbed her hand against the mirror-walkers side and tried to squiggle away. Meanwhile, the echoes were making it very hard to stay composed. Her cheeks had a pink tint to them and it was threatening to transition towards a deeper shade of red. She was glad they were alone in the danger room because this would look like all sorts of awkward. Not that she wasn't enjoying it.
It was victory is what it was. Total victory. It was worth it just for Eve's face alone.
"Excuse me, did I break the rules we set?" Maya grinned some more, letting Eve wiggle around for a few moments before she released her grip and sat back on her heels "... I don't remember setting any."
She deserved that, for the comment about hanging from a tree. Now who was the brat?
"First thing first, you need to learn to fall. That's important to know because you will fall a lot in training."
Scooting free like a cat with ruffled fur, Evelyn pushed her hair from her face and shook her head at Maya with a huff. "You're still a brat." She insisted, but had no better argument than that so just settled for straightening her shirt and picking up the sai.
>> "First thing first, you need to learn to fall. That's important to know because you will fall a lot in training."
A glint lit up Evelyn's eyes, and she smirked slightly. "Wait are you going to demonstrate for me?" She remarked innocently. She flicked her foot out as she said it, intent on hooking an ankle and bringing the mirror-walker back down.
Eve was quite quick, but Maya could have avoided the kick if she wanted to. She didn't. Instead she let her wince of surprise turn into a fall. She fell with practice - Sam had made sure of that from day one - and released most of the force of the impact through her arm, looking up at Eve.
"Not bad." she smirked, rolling backwards over her head and back onto her feet in one smooth move. Break dancing had been years ago, but it was like riding a bike.
"The point is, you don't wanna catch your weight on your back, or your ribs. It's gonna knock the air out of you and it hurts." she explained "You need to either roll with the fall, or put out your arm and break it like I did."
Evelyn would have been fooled by Maya's fall, if the echoes hadn't picked up on the slight hesitation in the response. She had tried to be sneaky, but the mirror-walker had years of practice to fall back on...rather literally in this situation. Pushing herself to her feet, she tossed the sai back into the target where she wouldn't have to worry about falling into them. She shook her head at Maya's dispaly.
"How do you know you're not going to bust a wrist catching the weight on your arms though? Falling in general just seems like it'll suck." She remarked. She kept a small distance between herself and Maya now. Somehow, she didn't trust the other female, especially when she seemed intent to teach a lesson in falling. It seemed like a training session that was destined to bruise her.
"Then again, falling seems to happen whether I want it to or not..." Most of the time she just got knocked on her butt though. Landing on her back did have a nasty way of winding you though. The thing she wanted to avoid was hitting her head on anything though. What was just a painful bump for someone else was a mental headache and reboot for her.
>>"How do you know you're not going to bust a wrist catching the weight on your arms though? Falling in general just seems like it'll suck... Then again, falling seems to happen whether I want it to or not..."
"Yeah well, it does suck." Maya smirked, and walked back to the storage room, just to appear again moments later, dragging a training mattress. "For now, we can make it suck less."
Laying the mattress down, she made sure they were well out of range of the weapon stands before she stepped back.
"For now, just try falling by yourself."
She had not done this when she started training, so she was unsure exactly how to explain the basics. After being a street rat and doing all kinds of acrobatics and break dancing on the streets for change, she kind of picked the basics up as she went. But Eve was a beginner... Maya was making this training up as she went.
As quick of a learner as Evelyn was, there were still some things that were a push for her to do. Falling on purpose was one of those things. She grew was from an upper class society. While Maya grew up with on the streets, Evelyn had been rather...spoiled. It was only recently she was adapting to her new lifestyle and toughening up to meet the challenge.
She shifted from foot to foot, trying to figure out exactly what to do. The instruction had sounded simple enough, but it wasn't easy to let herself fall when the echoes tried their best to instruct her and advise her against injuries.
"Are you going to look at me like I'm stupid if I admit I have no idea how to just fall on my own?" She remarked rubbing the back of her neck. She hadn't so much as rough housed when she was a kid. You didn't get in fist fights at dinner parties either, and if she fell, she usually just accepted the skinned knees she'd get. If she tried to fall on purpose, she was fairly certain she was going to do something silly like just sit instead.
She had watched younger kids trying to do gymnastics once when she was younger, visiting one of her cousins. When they started doing backflips, it was always a struggle to let themselves bend backwards and rely on their hands to catch them. While learning, their legs would wobble and shake, and often they's flop to the ground without trying. She felt sort of like that now. While she wasn't trying to do any summersaults, just the sensation of falling created the reflex to try to prevent it from happening. Good in most situations but not with this training session.
