The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>"You don't have to tell me it was a bad choice to make... I kinda had that idea knocked into me...I keep wanting to feel like I can defend myself and not need someone to come to my rescue all the time but the fact is, I'm not that good at staying out of trouble. I don't...I don't feel like things are bad ideas until it's already too late to fix them. The echoes take off in one direction, and I follow, and then everything blows up in my face."
Maya sighed. She really did know. Eve had the IQ of a small team of scientists, of course she was not gonna be able to tell her anything she didn't already know. Like, what was or wasn't a good idea, after the fact. That saved Maya the lecture. She was not sure how she felt about that.
>>"As far as the other mutant goes, he wants to live where he is. He know's he is dangerous and his mutation is still growing. He just feels better living on his own and not putting anyone else at risk. He knows a few people from the mansion though. Guess Serena is someone he considers a friend. But maybe with time someone can help him."
Some would, at some point. For now, there was the knowledge that a sewer monster was, indeed, sulking under New York City. Maya filed that under 'later'. Pulling Eve closer, she pressed a kiss to her forehead.
"I'm just glad ya're okay" she muttered with a sigh "And really, we gotta do somethin' about you getting into trouble like that. I mean, girl, ya need training. I have been getting into trouble since I was in elementary school, and as a professional in getting my ass kicked, lemme tell you, you gotta lot to learn. You're not gonna be able to get into trouble like a pro until you learn from a pro. And then you can graduate from sewer monsters to... whatever." she chuckled, smiling down at Eve "Seriously though, tell me next time, okay?"

Mati
The hug was reassuring, but Evelyn still felt guilty over the whole thing. The kiss made her feel better and worse at the same time. Sometimes she felt like a kid when she was around the x-men. It was like they were all out there saving the world in crap, and she was just someone else that would need to be saved. It was all still pretty new though. Maybe time and training would help...
"Training is probably the good idea... Training, or pepper spray...or both..." She murmured, glancing up and glancing uncertainly at Maya's smile.
>>"Seriously though, tell me next time, okay?"
That made it rather impossible to smile back. "I'll try I just... I didn't even know what to say! 'Hey Maya, so I went out the other night and was going to give this food to a sewer monster, then he attacked me, and oh, when my phone died and I tried to walk to the store to get a cab, someone jumped me and I got beat up more'." She blurted out in exasperation. She tossed the escrima back onto the table and it rolled back into place with it's companion piece.
She waited for the surprise to appear again. Because that was just the exclamation point to the whole week. She should have just enjoyed the hug. But it was hard to enjoy when there was still more to the dumb story to explain.
>>"I'll try I just... I didn't even know what to say! 'Hey Maya, so I went out the other night and was going to give this food to a sewer monster, then he attacked me, and oh, when my phone died and I tried to walk to the store to get a cab, someone jumped me and I got beat up more'."
Maya froze and stared down at Eve.
First thought:
GOD DAMMIT DOCPROF.
Second thought: ...
Yeah she had to admit she had relied on DocProf's sense of confidentiality (also known as 'I don't give a ****') more than once so she could not in all fairness blame the guy for it. But still.
"You... what?" she blinked, shaking her head "Wh... who beat you up?!"
Sewer monster, sure. Mutation could be a b*tch sometimes. But beating girls up on the street? Someone was gonna be in a WORLD of pain.
Maya was mostly keeping it together. Evelyn wasn't a mind reader though, so she couldn't really tell what the Mirror-walker was thinking. But she could see the wheels turning, the subtle traces of anger somewhere beneath the surface. Evelyn wished she had something back in her hand, but the question simmered in her head a little. She was careful how she answered, though, keeping her promise to Sam. The last thing she needed was someone trying to track down the guy who beat her up and find out he was--
"Just some dumb-ass who had a problem with my parents. I didn't see what happened to him when I left...It was just me being in the wrong place at the wrong time, again. Sam found me and got me home though..." She figured that would be ok to admit, considering someone might have seen the ice mutant drop her off. And she was still telling the truth. Avery did have a problem with her parents, and he had shown it once already. She also wasn't sure what happened when Sam helped her away. She was mostly just sure he wasn't getting up anytime soon.
Evelyn crossed her arms across her chest and felt the anger and frustration simmer in her gut at the thought. It quickly melted with the memories of how helpless she had felt, and she pushed her hair from her face. She kept it together, but her hands shook against her will. "It wasn't even a mutant. I should...I should have been able to fight him better..." She muttered quietly. The memories hurt in more than one way. It was hard to admit it out loud. But if she had to talk to someone, she was glad it was Mirror.
>>"Just some dumb-ass who had a problem with my parents. I didn't see what happened to him when I left...It was just me being in the wrong place at the wrong time, again. Sam found me and got me home though..."
And with that, Sam Johnson just made the sh*tlist of the year. Not for saving the damsel - for not telling the damsel's girlfriend.
Maya bit her lips. She was really trying to be patient here.
>>"It wasn't even a mutant. I should...I should have been able to fight him better..."
"Dammit Eve." Maya muttered, holding her by the shoulders to look into her eyes "Nothing about this was your fault."
Well, not entirely not...
"... except, you shouldn't go wandering in the freakin' sewer system alone. But that's not the point."
Well it was kind of the point. Maya was behaving like anyone would when they found out their girlfriend had been beaten up by some punk.
"Damn." she sighed, letting Eve go and running her fingers through her hair in a frustrated gesture "I mean, seriously? You get beaten up on the street and Sam saves you and Doc heals you and how the hell do I not hear about this?!..."
Evelyn flinched at the tone in Maya's voice. The echoes emphasized it for her mind and amplified all the frustration that was hidden behind it. She felt guilty, like that stomach turning painfully squeezing guilt that was almost as bad as the memories themselves.
She looked away from Maya. At least that way the echoes weren't stabbing her with the emotions.
"Sam had enough rumors going around, last thing I wanted was to add to it because he had to carry me back to the mansion... It's not his fault, so don't bug him about it." She added, picking the sai back up. She needed something in her hands. "I've been wanting to tell you myself."
Nothing sounded right. She really hated talking to people. She really hated knowing how people felt and having absolutely nothing helpful to say back. "I just had to deal with it myself first..." She added, staring at the metal object then sighing in frustration. Echoes of pain returned, and she flinched again, then threw the sai at the wooden rack where the longer weapons were at. Her memories caused her to throw it a bit harder than she intended, and the pointed weapon buried itself in the wood with a thunk. She looked again from it and leaned against the table, crossing her arms and simmering with her own emotions.
>>"Sam had enough rumors going around, last thing I wanted was to add to it because he had to carry me back to the mansion... It's not his fault, so don't bug him about it. I've been wanting to tell you myself."
Maya sighed. It stung, the whole thing. Her mind understood that it was only fair no one came babbling about Eve to her, but it still felt wrong. Relationships in early stages. Splendid.
>>"I just had to deal with it myself first..."
The sai slammed into the table, and Maya winced at the sudden burst of aggression, then stared at the dagger, still trembling slightly as it stood wedged into the wood. Whoa.
With a sigh, Maya let her arms down and walked over to Eve.
"I'm sorry. I just... I care about you, and it scares me when... you get into trouble. I know you don't like people protecting you, but... it's kinda hard not to..."
Evelyn felt her shoulders sink slightly, energy diminishing as quickly as it had come. She toed her ground a little and glanced up at Maya, then pushed her hand through her bangs, braid keeping her from messing with her hair too much. She wasn't picking up as much agitation from the other female now, but there were still plenty of other feelings the echoes could see. She wished there was an off button. It was almost overwhelming to deal with at the same time as she processed her own thoughts.
"I just feel like a liability all the time. I feel like someone is going to get hurt because of me. I don't want you hurt anymore than you want it to happen to me... I ....I like that you care, and I don't really hate that you want to protect me." She sat back up and glanced at the table then back at Maya.
"But...I can't promise I'm not going to get into trouble. I will be more careful, I won't go wandering the city at all hours, and I'll try to think through things a little more. But eventually, something is going to happen whether I'm careful or not. And I want to train and be able to defend myself because if that happens, I can't always rely on someone to come save me. I need to feel like I can at least help myself." She said, looking back with more determination at Maya. She was set on that much. She had been terrified in the sewer when no one was there to help her. She never felt that scared, and could barely admit it out loud. But she never wanted to feel that way again.
She felt her hands drift down to the end of her braid and she fiddled with it sheepishly. "I'm sorry. I'm still kinda sucky at this whole dating thing and I should have told you when it happened..."
>>"I just feel like a liability all the time. I feel like someone is going to get hurt because of me. I don't want you hurt anymore than you want it to happen to me... I ....I like that you care, and I don't really hate that you want to protect me."
Maya smiled a little bit. Now they were at least having a conversation. She remembered the first time they ever met, in the park when they had an argument about the exact same thing that ended with Gawain carrying Eve all the way to the car. It was a recurring topic in their relationship.
I need to feel like I can at least help myself."
Maya nodded. That was fair and reasonable. That is why they were here, after all. To train.
>>"I'm sorry. I'm still kinda sucky at this whole dating thing and I should have told you when it happened..."
"It's okay." Maya sighed, walking over to hold her in a hug "We'll figure it out, okay? I mean, I wouldn't have brought you into a room full of weapons if I was not serious about helping you train. You'll learn, I promise."
She kissed the top of Eve's head, then stepped away and flashed her a smile before she nodded towards the sai stuck in the desk.
>>You'll learn, I promise. That was comforting in a surprising way. While she had been somewhat intimidated by the weapons at first, she felt a bit more open to the idea now.
It was silly, but the hug seemed to make things better too. She awkwardly returned it, then glanced at the sai, rubbing the back of her neck thoughtfully. "I guess I could. I probably shouldn't be breaking the display stands though...or the furniture..." She admitted.
She picked up the other sai, the object feeling more familiar each time she grabbed one. She sort of liked the weight, and the echoes were able to watched the spins and easily helped put her hand where it needed to be to catch the handle when she tossed it. It was almost a little fun. It reminded her of walking around with the lights off in her apartment. The combination of memories and echoes made their own sort of sixth sense on where to move. She gave it a little toss, and glanced at Mirror, pushing aside the frustration and focusing on the task at hand. "Is there something better I can throw it at though?" She asked.
Eve relaxed a bit, and everything was back to business.
>>"I guess I could. I probably shouldn't be breaking the display stands though...or the furniture... Is there something better I can throw it at though?"
"Let's see." Maya walked over to the storage room door and it slid open, revealing all kinds of training equipment. After a few minutes of searching she re-appeared, pushing an archery target on a stand to the middle of the Danger Room.
"Well, I'm not exactly trained in how to use sai, but I'm sure there is a program in the computer somewhere for that. For now, let's just see how it feels."
Evelyn waited patiently while Maya moved to get a target, fiddling with the sai while she did. She let the echoes study the movement, taking notes on the weight and how much force it took to get different spins. She was somewhat glad she couldn't forget, otherwise there would be too much information hold onto. As the archery target came to a rest in the middle of the Danger Room, she freed the second sai and stepped forward, moving to where Mirror indicated.
"If nothing else I could probably find a viewtube video on it..." She chuckled slightly, and then focused on the target. Holding the handle firmly, she gave the first one a toss. It did a few spins and clunked off the target, but didn't stick. Frowning slightly with concentration, she took the dagger end of the second weapon, and gave it another toss. This time, it spun faster, and easily embedded in the target. The echoes stored the information, and she pushed her hair from her face.
"They're predictable enough they don't drive the echoes crazy at least, which is a plus... I have to say out of everything their growing on me. Does that make me like a super cheesy superhero wanna be or something?" She remarked.
>>"If nothing else I could probably find a viewtube video on it... They're predictable enough they don't drive the echoes crazy at least, which is a plus..."
Maya watched as Eve botched the firs throw, and opened her mouth to tell her she needed to hold the blade of the knife, not the handle. But before she could speak Eve was already doing it, so Maya settled for just smiling. However low her self-confidence was when it came to fighting, Eve seemed to have a talent.
>>"I have to say out of everything their growing on me. Does that make me like a super cheesy superhero wanna be or something?"
"I don't know, do you plan on starting to wear spandex?" Maya grinned, demonstrating that even though she had her girl days and boy days, her guttermind was always the same.
Walking over to the table she picked up a knife and joined Eve in front of the target, weighing it in her hand for a few moments before she threw it into the target.
"You need to put a bit more force into it" she said, looking at Eve "What are your echoes saying about it? Do they, like, help with the aim or something?..."
>>"I don't know, do you plan on starting to wear spandex?" The retort brought a hint of color to the pale haired mutants face, but she felt a smirk replace it quickly, and put a hand on her hip.
"Well, a black and red catsuit could be interesting..." She picked up both of the said, and watched Mirror throw the knife. She let the echoes take notes, but they behaves somewhat different from the sai, so there wasn't a lot to use.
"The echoes are just sort of...learning, right now, if that makes sense. When I throw, they sort of just note what the results are for how I threw, and how many spins, and lots of technical mumbo jumbo... I guess they help aim in the long run. Every time I throw I get a little more information on what might get closer to where I'm aiming. Since I've never thrown anything like this before though, it's like starting with a blank canvas and mapping everything out."
She flipped the sai around backwards, and stood next to Mirror, taking aim. Pushing aside a bit of her hesitation with the weapon, she focused on throwing harder and threw. She managed to keep her wrist straight this time, and the sai gave a more solid thunk, closer to the center of the target. She tossed the other sai over to her hand without glancing down at it, then tried to match the throw but aimed a few inches over. This one hit the very edge of the bullseye. She couldn't resist the smile that curved across her mouth.
>>"Well, a black and red catsuit could be interesting..."
Maya swallowed and put on a good face.
That's it, my girlfriend is trying to kill me...
>>"The echoes are just sort of...learning, right now, if that makes sense. Since I've never thrown anything like this before though, it's like starting with a blank canvas and mapping everything out."
"Practice makes perfect" Maya grinned as she watched the next two tried. She could see the concentration on Eve's face, and it was almost as if she could see the echoes at work as the aim improved. Whatever the gist of Eve's ability was, it could definitely be useful in training. She watched Eve handle the sai without looking.
"It looks like a good fit for you" she smiled "You'll have to learn basic self-defense before you start using it in training... but definitely a good option."
