AppearanceHair color and style: Long, brown hair, often loose and wind-swept
Eyes: Dark blue
Height: 5'10"
Build: Her proportions are considered petite, waifish, and lanky. Maya’s body is also lighter than it should be for her size as if the very make up of her being is slightly less than substantial
Visible mutation: General lack of pigmentation. She is becoming somewhat translucent. As a result, blushes and bruises show up extraordinarily well. In the right light, the shadow of her bones and organs can be seen through her skin.
Scars/ Tattoos/ Piercings: A silver trace of what appears to be claw marks over her belly, compliments of Hull in
DDDMaya has slight discolorations on her palms, knuckles, and fingertips as a result of some accidental
merging.
A simple tattoo on her back with the black numbers 617, compliments of TATMAH in Mission Hawaii Healed.
Other features: Transparency issues. Ghost isn't entirely all there. Her shadow is a less dark than most people. At maximum a 70% fade.
Ghost's body is highly flammable.
Everyday clothing style: Maya prefers loose and comfortable clothing which most typically includes a short and flouncy skirt. Her typical outfit might be a jersey tee matched with a polka dotted skirt. Maya is often seen barefoot because of her intense dislike for shoes. She likes clothes that are able to breathe.
Uniform: Maya's begrudged uniform is grey with white stripes along the legs and arms. Stripes end over the metacarples/metatarsals. Thigh-high, black boots with the stupidest heel that should not be on shoes that need to run. Uniform includes a skirt because it'd be too embarrassing to wear spandex without one.
Sleepwear: Spaghetti straps or halter camisoles and short faded-red-now-pink girl boxers.
Miscellaneous clothing: Ghost owns a masterfully draped 3-piece power business suit. It is grey with a faint darker stripe to the wool. With it she typically wears heels and a solid, jewel-toned dress shirt. Optional tie. It's not skirty enough for her tastes so she only wears it when the business demands.
CharacterPersonality: Maya is cautious, easily distracted, easily embarrassed, meek, demure, curious, and polite to a fault. If peeved, she will stand up for herself but it takes a lot to get under her skin. She's growing jaded to the ways of the world.
Hobbies/ Interests: Maya enjoys creating and all positive pursuits. Cooking, growing things that can be cooked, reading, rescuing kittens/small children, and bubbles. Who doesn't like bubbles? She also enjoys showing kindness to strangers. As a result she often finds and makes friends with the wrong people, believing the best of them and pushing them to do good.
Job or part time job and description: Owner of the Full Circle Bookstore, part time general manager Under Federal Investigation for money laundering and supporting Sebastian's terrorist cell.
Fears/ phobias/ concerns: Hull. And
rightfully so. Maya also fears her slow fade into non-existence. She worries about the demise of the ones she has come to love and things that are out of her control.
Special talents: Maya can carry a tune. She's too shy to sing for others, but you might hear something wafting out of the shower or garden every now and then.
MoralityGood/ bad/ neutral/ other: Good. Ghost rescues kittens, believes the best of others, respects the Oxford comma, and tries to maintain a positive outlook. She will always try her best to find a non-violent solution.
MutationsMutation description:
Ability to Control AirMaya has the ability to change an air current’s direction or strength.
She can create strong gusts that may carry objects and cause cuts, create an "air barrier" of dense and moving wind to knock opponents back.
Strengths: Able to weave flows of air.
Weaknesses: Strength of control diminishes with range or quantity of power.
It takes more energy to command wind as the density gets higher. Maya's stronger maneuvers will fatigue her more quickly.
Incorporeal Form
Maya may become like air herself.
All at once and very fast, the molecular bonds of her body become loosely tied. Things may go through her body (people, cars, rocks, bullets), but she may not pass through solid things (like walls). Maya can change others and things (a max of 300 pounds) to an incorporeal state if she brings them with her when she changes into her gaseous form.
Because of the loose cohesion of her molecules, Maya is able to enter anywhere that isn't air tight. She maintains an approximate mass so she must be able to fit her corporeal body in the space she is entering though not all at once. She may slide under a doorway assuming that there would be enough space for her whole body on the other side.
While incorporeal, her form looks very faded and translucent— like a ghost. She cannot be hit with physical attacks and can "fly" with the air currents she directs. She cannot directly affect physical objects while incorporeal, though she may use her wind power to influence them.
[/i][/b]
While incorporeal, Maya does not "see" as she normally does, her perception is based on the air around her. She is able to feel a 360 degree area through the air and how it reacts to various objects. (ie: she knows that a person is standing in front of her because there is a person-shaped space where the person's mass is displacing the air that would normally be there.) Anything beyond her range or anything finely detailed is sketchy at best - only large and very solid things even registering in her "sight." She does not see color, brightness, darkness, or energy while incorporeal: only mass.
[/ul]
Strengths: The ability to avoid physical harm. The ability to seep into non-airtight places. The ability to be free of dependence on light-based sight. The ability to share her traits with others and a limited amount of objects. The ability to transport others. The ability to inhabit a body that is not her own.
Weaknesses: Maya must maintain an approximate mass. She is unable to see anything that isn't 3D (ie color, images on a screen or canvas, ) and is unable to directly influence physical objects.
Maya must maintain a certain level of oxygen within her body to be able to change into her incorporeal state. This make her highly flammable. In order to make the change from physical to insubstantial, Maya must be able to take in extra oxygen. If she is unable to breathe, she is unable to make the change.
If Maya attempts to become corporeal again when something is currently through her incorporeal body, the foreign object will be implanted in her physical body (ex: if a tree branch is sticking through her incorporeal body, when she were to try to become corporeal the branch would push her molecules aside and become part of her body... this can result in internal wounds).
When incorporeal Maya's way of seeing often makes it hard to immediately know who is who. She is also more vulnerable to certain energy attacks (ex: lasers) as she cannot see them coming.
She is most vulnerable to fire when incorporeal.
Shared IncorporealityIn order to change another into an incorporeal state, Maya must have skin contact. She must start the process solid and it takes more time and focus to push her power into their body than it does for her to change her own body. Once incorporeal, the extra person will not be able to move freely - they must remain in contact with Ghost to remain less than solid and Maya must direct both insubstantial entities' movements.
The incorporeal tagalong's senses are as Maya's when incorporeal: form vision only and heightened hearing. Maya's passenger will become just as flammable as Maya and be unable to affect physical objects unless their mutation allows (eg: Telekinesis can move a chair, but their hand would go right around the object).
Strengths: The incorporeal tagalong shares traits with Maya: invulnerable to physical attacks and no dependancy on light-based vision.
Weaknesses: When sharing her incorporeality, Maya has a maximum complexity allowance of two people with minimal clothing. The less mass, the better she is able to control what goes with who and the longer she will be able to sustain the person's state change. If Maya is to lose consciousness or loose contact while maintaining shared incorporeality, the person would simply fall out of incorporealness and revert back to their natural state of solidity.
Body PossessionIf inhaled while in her incorporeal state Maya may choose to let herself travel into the bloodstream. It is a brain-stretching exercise to keep track of all her molecules and takes time for her to orient herself within the body. Once oriented, Ghost is able to use her influence over her own body's molecules in order to influence the bodily actions of the person she is inside. An alert person will be able to fight her influence, but will be fighting their own body. An unconscious or dead body gives no resistance.
Strengths: Quit hitting yourself, quit hitting yourself, quit hitting yourself...
Maya is still able to speak (body's lips will not likely move) , hear (though I imagine it muffled through flesh
), and thanks to her incorporeal ability's vision type "see" in a normal range. She can potentially keep an enemy from doing anything beyond sabotaging himself, can have dead bodies walk away, or take an unconscious friend home.
Weaknesses: Since Maya's attention must be kept on retaining all of her own body's molecules, she is unable to affect any air outside of her own body and ultimately, none of the air outside of the body she is attempting to hijack. Essentially she cannot use her mutation for anything else (beyond it's passive traits) while bodyjacking.
Because Maya's body is comprised of purified air, hosts benefit from her ample oxygen. If the host is ever in need of more oxygen than is readily available to them, they will start drawing from Maya and she will need to vacate the body.
Fighting StyleExplanation: Maya was never formally trained in any fighting style. She has had basic self-defense in gym class, but when it comes to a fight she most certainly will rely on her powers. Maya often phases into her incorporeal Ghost form to avoid being physically hurt. She is generally defensive, only becoming offensive when cornered into it. She will often try to make an opponent pass out. Body possession is an absolute last resort.
Pros for fighting style: It's hard to hit someone who isn't there.
Cons for fighting style: Maya must rely on her mutant powers to help. She dislikes possessing people.
Faction AllegianceThe X-men, the police
History Of Your CharacterMaya is what you would consider a military brat. After years of moving and changing schools, Maya's father was promoted to an overseas position on Yakota AFB, Japan. Maya's mother, keen on absorbing as much of the culture as was possible, joined Maya in intensive language school and encouraged her to attend a local high school rather than the on-base, all English high school. Due to her (at the time) normal appearance, Maya was able to successfully hide her mutation and complete her studies at a Japanese speaking high school.
January, the month Maya was to leave Japan to attend college in the US, Maya's mother died suddenly in a car accident. Troubled with the circumstances around her mother's death, Maya became unable to control her mutation and because of an intense desire to be left alone, she developed her incorporeal form. It was at this time that her hair began growing white and her secret was officially outed: Maya was a mutant. Her father largely disbelieved her powers despite the evidence. They tolerated a strained home-life for half a year as Maya set her family's house in order. Finally, unable to stand the tension, Maya arranged to start mid-year at NYU. She boarded a plane, but when she disembarked she found that someone had tipped off the police and that registration was mandatory. She landed in mutant purgatory: the New York mutant internment camps.
IC History:Being the daughter of a military officer had its perks in the camp, Maya was spared a large portion of the atrocities. She left the camps adequately scarred by the horrors committed by both parties. After a brief recuperative stay at Mondragon Labs, Maya found her home at Xavier's School for the Gifted where she lived in the girl's hall for over a year.
With the help pf some friends, Maya became the owner and operator the Full Circle Book Store, which she promoted as a safe place for all mutant and human alike. Maya married
Sebastian in order to shelter him from deportation and moved into a shared apartment over the Iris Clinic. On their honeymoon, they adopted a
young Frenchman.
In 2012, Maya learned that her mother been romantically involved with Zephyr's father, Alistar Smith, and the relationship had ended badly. So when Meredith gave birth to twins they struck a bargain to split the difference. Alistar claimed Simon, Meredith claimed Maya. This makes
Zephyr her twin brother.
In 2012, Maya resigned herself to a long hospital stay in order to protect a high-risk twin pregnancy. Due to their lack of contact, her immortal husband went crazy. He started a cult placing himself at the head as "god." As a result, strangers sometimes revere Maya and her children as holy.
In 2013 Sebastian disappeared leaving nothing but a paper trail. The FBI started their investigation of Sebastian, his cult, and his finances. It wasn't until 2016 that their investigation extended to the X-man Maya and her Full Circle Bookstore.
Maya moved back to the Mansion where she reconnected with fellow X-man, Cafas.
Their romance caught them both off guard.RoleplayWhat’s your OOC alias?: Sen

Sample RP:It had been a long time. Maya watched the ground approach from her tiny double pained window with the rounded corners. She was totally excited. It wasn’t home, but she was born here in the states – that counted for something, right? ‘What's it called?’ She mused, ‘third culture children…?’ Touchdown and Maya leaned away from the window. Now that the plane had already landed, the window didn’t hold any lure for her. Who cares about tarmac? She had so much else to dream and plan for her time here in New York where she was to attend college. She coasted through the breezeway, excited and slightly nervous about finding who the college had sent to pick her up. A Teacher? A ferociously handsome boy her own age?
Just outside of the gate a strong featured man held a piece of paper with her name on it. Strange. She had thought American Airport security had gotten stricter- they even made her take off her shoes before she could get on the plane in Narita to come to New York, but maybe the international media had made things seem bigger than they really were.
“Uhm, Hi” She approached the man in the navy-colored suit.
“That’s me.” She set her carry-on bag by her foot and pointed to the sign with her name, Maya Swift, printed clearly in black marker.
He looked at her over his glasses, taking in her appearance from head to toe. Maya squirmed, international flights weren’t exactly a day at the spa.
“I’m a good friend of your father’s… if you’ll come with me, we’ll take good care of you, Miss.”She agreed, though something was very uncomfortable about the situation.
“It’s nice to meet you, Mr…” She prompted him for a name, adding a short bow out of habit; but when she looked up, he was motioning to the security guards standing by.
“I’m glad you’ve decided to be peaceable about this, Maya.” He reached to take her bag from her.
“Peaceable? Why wouldn’t I…” Somehow she had missed something,
“I mean you are taking me to my dorm …?” “Maya, be serious.” He interrupted unflinchingly but not unkindly. The guards were there, fiddling with some kind of cuffs.
“You should consider the position you’re putting us in. You really can’t endanger the lives of our students — can you, mutant?”‘What happened to freedom and equality!?’ She started hyperventilating as she swung the strap of her carry on to fling the weight into the group. She kept the momentum going even after she'd let go, using it to turn and run. There were shouts, but she wasn’t listening anymore; she was in full must-escape-now-mode. Halfway through the terminal something bit her. Taser electrodes.
“huAAAAGH!” she crumpled to the floor amid wide-eyed spectators with muscle spasms as the electricity coursed through her body.
“Get her out of here.” Was the last thing she heard as a free woman.
