The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

It was like Ambrosia was reading her thoughts, not that it had been much of stretch from the context. The city just never seemed to stop or take a break. It just kept rushing around, not letting anything stand in the way of its hectic way of life. She could also well agree about too much to do, it was not easy supporting herself and keeping up her work as an X-Man.
Her ears perked up at hearing the woman say she played. Danced too? That was so cool and she could only imagine the sight and sound of someone dancing in the dress she was wearing. That was something she'd love to see. "It's my job, actually. I play in band in bars and such." It still felt weird saying it out loud, that she was, technically, a professional musician. "As for what I play, my main instruments are the guitar and fiddle. I have dabbled with others but those are the ones that just, made sense." The guitar had seemed a logical choice after she had been learning the violin, and she'd quickly taken to it.
"What about yourself, what do you play?" There was always something amazing about talking to other people about what and how they play music. Music was so important to her, had been such a large part of her life since she was young, being able to share that with others was a rare pleasure. The fact that is was such an easily shared human experience just added to her love of it.
He was going home. Today had been far too weird to consider trying to salvage it and he was fairly sure a drink would only do more harm than good. Nodding to the officer and leaving with a simple "Cheers," he start off, Gaelic insults and weird crooning following him from the weird little man. He was not in the mood to deal with any more myths right now. Scattering the shield as he walked, he was glad nothing else could surprise him.
His luck, being what it was, meant of course he was going to get messed with by something else. Between one step and the next he started to feel like something was weird. Why did the ground not feel, groundy? Looking down and seeing the ground recede away from him, his anger finally burst.
"Officer! We've got a wee bit of a f------ problem over here!" Try as he might, he could hold back the red tide any more. Whoever these things were, whatever they could do, it was time to fight back.
Glancing around, he finally clocked the figure he was rising up towards. Well, if she was Jenny she fit the part, dark blue hair and a nasty off green grin. Before he could stop himself, he was swearing at her in Gaelic, using every single insult he had ever heard. There was no stopping the torrent of abuse he directed at the person in front of him.
He could feel his mind trying to pull out a weapon, as if it knew he wanted to hurt this person. Light started to shimmer near his hand, trying to form into, something.
---
God even making the man fly was boring, he didn't scream or wet himself. Barely reacted in an interesting way at all. He even called for help, couldn't he do something funny? Maybe he would freak out if he saw her, start cowering like others did. That might be fun. Probably not, she thought sighing.
Urgh, he even spoke like her toy, screaming at her in a language she didn't care enough to learn, even if her 'boyfriend' insisted on trying to teacher her. Why should she care about some dying tongue over say, anything useful ever. Picking at her teeth and idly wondering when she'd need to re-dye them, she was getting mildly impressed by the sheer length of time the red head was able to keep shouting. It was mildly endearing in a pathetic way.
Wait, what was that in his hand? Was he a mutant. Well, this might be interesting, a little. "You done shouting like the madman you appear to be?" That cut him short. Oh she liked the look of hatred he had, there was more beneath the surface. This Scotsman might be fun to play with. "I'd love to see what present you've got there," she said motioning towards his hand, "Just remember how high up you are right now. I wouldn't want to lose concentration and let you slip."

Who was she to argue with the person who had expertise in the matter, and she remembered liking chamomile the last time she'd tried it. "Camomile sounds greats," she began smiling, happy for the advice. "And I'll remember the suggestion about balms if the tea doesn't do the trick." If it helped with her sleep she would make sure to come back here and give to nice woman a big hug, if she was fine with it of course.
It was a wonder anyone in the city worked anything resembling normal hours. Cait could probably count on one hand the number of people she knew who didn't have to work strange hours and they were all involved in schools in one way or another.
"Oh absolutely, especially when it's more often than not. Can't remember the last time I got a full nights sleep." She would never complain about her work, or her other nightly activities, but it was draining.
Spotting some instruments her interest was instantly peeked. "Do you get many musicians through here," she said pointing towards them. Her professional curiosity would not let her get away with finding out the answer. Some things were too important.

Letting her friend hug out some of her worries, she realised she sometimes forgot how long she'd been with them. Even with 4 years under her belt, Cait still got terrified at times like this, she could only imagine Raine's thoughts right now.
Raine could justify it any way she wanted, soar through the air was flying. "Call it what you want Raine, it still freaks me out." She was right though, they had to leave now, somehow. Rooftops weren't exactly amazing for hasty getaways and she did not want to walk down the side of it like some weird, red spider.
Grinning and pulling out her phone, glad that Becca had insisted on her having a shock resistant case, she flicked through her photo album. "All here, plenty of different angles and lighting. And check it out, our creeper has good taste." Slowly going through the photos she had managed to get, she started to commit the womans' face to memory. She might be a sucker for a pretty face, but this was one that clearly had some secrets.
"Imagine the look on the bosses face when we come back with not one but two suspects, picture evidence and testimony from the both of us." Impact might not have been expecting much out of them, this would blow her socks off. "We will be so in for more missions in the future."

Cait could see Astrid contemplating something out of the corner of her eye. What see wouldn't give to see inside that delightful mind, catch a glimpse at how she saw the world. The Scot had a sneaky suspicion the weren't all that much different, but she still couldn't help but be curious.
Her dad had always told her, you could teach a musician many things, but enthusiasm wasn't one of them. That was the most important thing, he had said. Looking at the excited young woman, so happy to just be playing and she finally understood what he'd meant. Astrids' cheery nature was contagious, not that she could be in a bad mood at the moment, it would take a monster to be grumpy with the two of them in one room.
Returning the bright smile she'd gotten and brining her own violin up to her chin, she counted in with Astrid before launching into the melody, starting with the long held note after the rest. Throwing in some vibrato on each held note, adding a strong mournful sound to the song.
It was such a wonderful song to play, the two instruments complimenting each other perfectly. The low notes mixed with the melody she was playing, becoming greater than either could be on their own.
The rise and fall, played together, soaring up for just a second before coming back down, it was like the music was playing with more than sound. The tone they set would move emotions, manipulate them to compliment the music.

Fantastic, she was hoping to get some more books and hearing that they were popular was great news. She loved people taking an interest in different cultures. It being her own just made it more exciting to share it. She'd have to make a note to go through them before she left and maybe check out the herbal tea collection while she was at it. Theirs was running low and any creature comforts at the base were well appreciated.
Taking the offered hand and replying "Nice to meet you, Ambrosia." Now that the woman was closer she could see the cat like eyes the woman sported. She was clearly a mutant then but that hadn't really been in doubt, if she was remembering right. "I might have a question actually, I've been looking for a decent herbal tea for just before bed. I tend to work weird hours and getting to sleep as the suns rising is a wee bit difficult." Starting somewhere less, political, she wanted to at least build a rapport before asking the difficult questions.
"I just don't want to have to rely on medicine to do it, makes me all groggy the next day." And sick, she thought, remembering her last attempt with the stuff. Thank god they didn't have a gig that evening, she hadn't even been able to practice for more than ten minutes without feeling ill. Anything that put her music in jeopardy had to go.
"Is there anything you could suggest?" Couldn't hurt to try. Much.

After his first, and last visit, to Inferno he had steered clear of the place. Partially due to a wee bit of guilt about keeping Kendra's snooping a secret, but mostly it was him not wanting to run into the poor lass he'd spilt scotch over. That had been heart breaking. It had been good scotch, right from his home town too and it was just wasted like that. Nearly enough to make a Scotsman cry.
Considering the day he'd had and how close the club had been, there wasn't really another choice. Maybe this time though he'd actually get to finish his drinks peacefully, or at least as peaceful as the inside of a popular club can be. Heading in the front doors and nodding at the perky secretary behind the counter, he set off towards the entrance to the club proper. A quick check by the bouncers on the door that he was who he said he was and he was in. Not many people were there at the moment, but he was there early by club standards so he was hardly surprised.
Catching the bartenders eye he raised his voice to be heard over the music. "I'll be needing a double of Highland Park please lad, neat. And a beer, what ever's cold and cheap will do." His drinks came pretty quickly, and after handing over the money for them, he turned to try to survey the room, maybe see if there was a booth available, he went over the day in his head.
How the hell had he gotten himself dragged into not just taking Sarah to one of the classes she had with other young mutants, but taking part with her. Worse, Devon had just laughed him off when he'd frantically called and asked where her chaperone was for it. Artair was getting the sneaking suspicion it had been planned.
Chugging the beer and being pleasantly surprised by the half decent flavour, he wandered over towards the back, towards an empty looking booth. Looking in he was so glad to find it free, a good sit and relax with a drink was on the books. Getting comfy and pulling out one of his mutant biology books, he figured a little bit of studying wouldn't hurt either. At least no one would bother him here. Or insist on piggy back rides.

Nudging the cat back towards the doctor, she had to consider her answer to Mals' question. Certainly part of the reason she wanted him to get to know her, and by extension her getting to know him was she liked making friends. It might seem childish but wasn't the world just, nicer, when you got along with others.
The other part of it was that, by being in on their secret and by helping patch them up after injuries, he was kind of a part of the very strange family they had going here. It just felt weird that she had never actually bothered to get to know the man risking a lot by not telling the police about them. She hadn't failed to pick up on the innuendo though. She wasn't as innocent as some people believed.
Giving him a cheeky grin she started speaking, "Oh my doctor, so forward. Did you expect something else when the text said floof?" Her voice carried a joking tone as she continued, "I must say Becca is very protective of her strays."
"But seriously? You've helped us, stuck your neck out for all of us. We all appreciate it and I thought maybe you like to know more about us as people, rather than just what we do." She could understand if he didn't, or just wanted to relax after a long shift with some small talk and fluffiness. "That, and every time you've been up here you seemed like a nice guy."
"I figured maybe you'd be a laugh to just hang out with."

Grinning at his comments, she had to agree. Being able to talk with people from the same culture was always a pleasure, especially when you were surrounded by a one that was quite alien at times. "Can't say how much I agree. I've lived here most my life, yet somehow, they are still home." She had to agree with him on that point. Anyone who offered her fluffy snuggles was alright in her book.
"Oh, I love going out with friends and having fun. The flirting doesn't bother me much either, but if I'm trying to relax before work it kind of sucks." If she was trying to get in the zone, distractions really messed with her. Cait took her job very seriously and anything that affected that couldn't be tolerated.
She was glad that she had gauged him right, and that he was actually a nice guy. Bad people didn't deserve kitty love, it was just wasted on them. "If only the boss agreed with you. She takes her role as team mum a little seriously at times." Not that she'd change a thing about their fearless leader. "It doesn't help that her daughter is on the team. We all get mothered by proxy."
Thinking on it, how much did Mal know about them? "Is there anything specific you'd like to know about us? I can't exactly say everything, but there's a fair bit I can share considering what you already know." A wise set of bears had once said, sharing is caring.

Mal was the best person ever, if he willing gave up kitty snuggles for someone else. She didn't know if she was that strong herself she thought, while idly scratching Bijou's ears. She was just so cute! It was hard not to be in such a good mood when you had a kitty in your lap nibbling playfully at your fingers. Well, maybe Agnes could. She was grump incarnate after all.
Blushing at his teasing, she had to wonder if she was that transparent that he'd clocked it so quickly. "I'm sorry if it bothered you, I had about two hours to kill before I need to head off to work and....." trailing of awkwardly, she just hoped he wasn't upset about that. Some people had gotten mad at her in the past for this kind of thing. "With the only other person here being on scanner duty, it's just soooo boring. It was either spend time here or sit on uncomfortable bar stools and get hit on before we were up."
It was the one thing she disliked about what she did for a living. Playing live music was an awesome career, but sometimes members of the crowd got it into their head you were directing everything at them, that you had some sort of connection forged with cheap beer and pop music.
"Oh, yes, of course. We had the lecture from Juliette and we are super careful about her. Rooms are disinfected regularly, she has her fur brushed to keep any loose hairs getting out of hand and we've increased how often we switch out the vent filters." They were not about to but peoples health in danger for a pet they, in fairness, shouldn't be keeping here anyways.
"She's also received all her vaccinations and been given a clean bill of health." Best to just head of any follow up questions while she was at it. Mewling coming from her lap distracted her, looking down into the largest, greenest set of eyes in the world. No, she was here to stay, nothing could shift her now.

Smiling warmly at the cute display in front of her, she slowly stood up and head over to the kettle. Good teabags were one of the few things they splashed out on, something the young Scot was grateful for. Her parents had instilled the love for a good cuppa in her from a young age, and Americans just couldn't not get it right.
Setting the water boiling she started to pull together the various little bits needed for a proper brew. "There any specific types you prefer? We've got a decent selection."
With the water boiled and teabags steeping, she looked over at her guest. Seeing how someone interacted with animals was always a good way to see a true side of their character and Mal was clearly under Bijou's spell. No one really stood a chance at this point, she had even managed to melt Becca's heart and stop Jules from kicking her out of the hospital.
"Do you take milk and sugar in yours?" Finishing up the mugs and adding more sugar than was really good for her, she brought the warm drinks over and set them down in front of their seating place, before curling back up on the sofa. Eyeing the blissful cat in the doctors lap a little jealously, she sipped at her drink and considered what she wanted to say.
"I know it's a bit odd for one of us to call you up here, but I figured you've patched us up enough that you should probably know more about us." Cait was tactful enough to not mention that her primary motivator had been boredom.

It was always a good feeling when she started exercising, loosening up her muscles and really feeling alive. The feeling was nearly as good as losing herself whenever she got to play the violin, letting the music control her movement while she just, played. That was why she'd taken to the knife, it just felt right in her hand. Like it was just an extension of her body. Certainly made it awkward that she tended to prefer not hurt people if she could help it and knives weren't exactly a non lethal option.
Poor David always seemed to get it whenever she practiced, he was already on his last legs and a couple of really viscous strikes sent it teetering a little longer than it really should have. Just about ready to strike again, she stepped just a touch too far forward and was rewarded with a grumpy ninja correcting her form. Could someone attach a bell to the women or something? She needed it more than Bijou. She was right though, she'd gotten sloppy with the strikes. Nodding, while keeping her focus on the dummy she shifted to follow Combatant's instructions.
"Just tell me where I'm going wrong, I'll try to correct it." The shift from casual conversation to teacher and student was a pretty easy shift for her. She was used to deferring to someone more knowledgeable and trusting their training. There was no way she'd be where she was if she stubbornly refused help.
Continuing through the forms, correcting every time her trainer made a comment or tapped the offending body part, she lost herself in the patterns. It was easy to lose track of time like that and she only registered it when her body was started to protest any more movements. Much more and she would be useless for the rest of the night, and tomorrow for that matter.
Waving off her companion and stepping away from David she lowered her practice weapons and take some deep, glorious breaths. "I think that's me for the day. Anymore and I'll fall asleep mid session at work." As hilarious as that might be, it might not come across well for the band. They'd worked hard to a reputation for reliability and professionalism, she was not going to jeopardise that just to impress someone. It had taken them a long time to get the point that they were making an actual living.
Replacing the equipment she had gotten out, and putting David back to sleep in the corner, she started to towel herself off after that work out. Damn, she'd either have to swing back to her flat for a shower or brave the ones they had here. Urgh, half the time they didn't have hot water left and with the lock broken it never felt entirely private. "Do you know if Geo's in right now? Considering taking a shower and I'd rather not have him walk in on me." The others she didn't mind so much. Doc was a sweet heart and was very careful when entering a room and the only other permanent resident was already in the same room as her.
Smiling back, she was glad she had picked Mal to ask. He certainly looked like he could do with a little R'n'R and what better way was there than entertaining a kitty? "Yes this is the floof. Astrid brought her back and Becca just couldn't say no."
"There's a little sitting area we have if you just follow me. Big comfy chairs and snacks galore." Which was half true. Their snack budget had been low recently thanks to new additions to the family. Cait had kept trying to sneak in new stuff for everyone, especially now that she knew how bad stuff was money wise, but Becca always caught her and scolded her for wasting money.
Setting off and assuming Mal would follow, because come on, what monster could resist a kitty cat, she kept Bijou from wriggling free before they got there. "You can hold her when we get there, if you'd like to. Just can't let the wee devil escape before then."
The sitting was, by far, her favourite room. More than one night had been spent here watching scary movies after a shift, or having a nice girly talk with Raine.
Unceremoniously flopping down onto one of the chairs, she left more than enough room if he wanted to sit next to her with Bijou. If not there was plenty of free spaces to sit, arranged in a nice ring after their last meeting. "Make yourself at home, anything on the coffee table is fair game." Hmm, maybe Mal would want what all British people needed after a long shift.

Was it weird that the newest member was the one calming her down? Maybe, but right now petty thoughts weren't needed. She had to get in serious mode. Pulling out a knife just in case, she tensed herself to move quickly. They really should have formed an exit strategy.
The silence was the worst thing, like the people could somehow sense the nervous woman behind the crates. Or more likely, they had heard her phone vibrating every other second.
She did not know how much more she could take. If nothing changed she would have to just bolt.
So of course, something changed. More precisely, gravity did as she suddenly started to fall down, through the door and zipped across the car park. This was not a feeling she could ever get used to, no matter how often Raine kept trying to convince her. She was a land animal, through and through.
Pulling out a shield and trying to use it to slow her falling, she only just managed to nudge herself to one side, narrowly avoiding plowing into her teammate. Skidding along the roof, the reassertion of proper downness slowed her enough to finally come to a stop.
Moaning as she pulled herself up, checking for anything broken or cut, she had somehow come out (mostly) unscathed. "That was terrifying!" It was. "And awesome!." That too. Rushing up to her friend she enveloped the smaller woman in a huge hug, nearly lifting her off the ground.
"You know I hate flying, but by god that was one hell of an exit! Can you imagine the look on their faces?"

Quickly de-camping to the room they had devoted as a more communal relaxing area and closing off the doors to keep her little friend in, she brought out the toys they had stashed about. Playing with the precious little bundle of cute and feeling all her stresses melt away, she wonder if the doctor would really want to hang out. He had seemed nice enough whenever he was treating one of them.
No, chances are he was running late on his shift. Hospitals were always like that. Raine had spent more than enough time complaining about it and she was just a volunteer, what did the full time staff have to deal with? Well, it just gave her more time with Bijou.
The minutes started to blur, all of her attention being taken up with the rather obvious distraction. If her phone hadn't buzzed she would have completely forgotten about the good doctor and her offer of kitty goodness. Smiling down at the reply, she picked up the little jewel again, carrying her out towards where the stairs entered the base and waited for, what she hoped, was a brand new friend.
The two of them had only been waiting a couple of minutes when she heard the distant footsteps. Oh it was so exciting, she loved being able to get to know people. It was even better that doing so usually meant she had more people to hug.
Bijou began struggling in her arms, distracting her long enough to miss Mal coming through the door. Shocked out of her reverie, she smiled at the man now in the X-Base. "Hi Mal, thanks for coming to hang. I'm Cait, obviously." The movement in her arms reminded her of the other order of business. "Oh and this is Bijou. Want to stroke her?"
